Lucia knocked repeatedly on Perri’s door before it finally opened. Perri greeted her with an annoyed look that Lucia couldn’t quite understand. She wondered why Perri disliked her so intensely.
“What do you want?” Perri asked, her tone cold.
“I came to return this,” Lucia replied, handing her a piece of clothing. “Your mother mentioned it was new, and I felt bad having to wear it, so I had it dry-cleaned.” She held the garment out to Perri.
Perri narrowed her eyes, snatching it from Lucia and inspecting it thoroughly. “How do I know you cleaned it? I know people like you don’t know how to do anything.”
After a quick look, she scoffed. “Just as I thought—there’s still dirt on it. Don’t bother returning anything if you can’t clean it properly!” She threw the clothing in Lucia’s face and slammed the door.
Lucia clenched her fists. She wasn’t usually this tolerant, but because Perri was George’s family, she kept her composure. She took the garment back to the backyard to wash it again.
Under the hot sun, struggling to scrub it clean, sweat trickled down her face. She was sure she’d never sweated this much before. When she finally felt satisfied, she approached Perri’s room again and knocked. Perri opened the door, looking irritated.
“This should be clean enough,” Lucia said, holding out the clothing.
Perri eyed it, took it, and then deliberately dropped it on the floor. “Oops. Looks like someone might have to do some cleaning again,” she smirked, her eyes showing no remorse.
“You—!” Lucia began, pointing an angry finger at her, but a wave of exhaustion suddenly overtook her. The last thing she saw was George rushing toward her as everything went dark.

Darkness. Then, blurry flashes. Gradually, the blurriness faded. The first thing she noticed was an unfamiliar ceiling. This place didn’t feel like home; the atmosphere was different.
“You’re finally awake,” a familiar male voice said, though she couldn’t immediately place it. Something cool touched her forehead, easing the headache she’d just become aware of.
“I told that idiot not to use too much sedative!” the man muttered in frustration.
It was Rafael’s voice. Camila’s vision slowly cleared, and she confirmed it was indeed him. How did she end up here? She strained to remember, recalling a fight with Alejandro.
Alejandro had told her to leave, saying hurtful things about losing his loved ones. Though his words confused her, she’d left the company. Then she overheard something.
“Everything is going as planned. He’s in his office, going mad, and I’ve sent some people to his wife’s house to take her,” said a familiar voice on the phone. It was Diego.
Hidden behind a wall, Camila listened.
“I’m almost done downloading all the estate’s data. It’ll be ready by tomorrow. I’ll send you the flash drive.”
Camila almost gasped, realizing Diego had been the mole all along. Trying to escape undetected, she tripped and fell, alerting Diego. He stepped out, surprised to see her.
“How long have you been there?” he demanded, but Camila couldn’t think of a quick lie. She stood, intending to run back to Alejandro, but Diego was faster, catching up to her.
He covered her mouth and dragged her out of the building, despite her struggles. When he pressed a cloth to her face, everything went black.
Now she sat up, breathing heavily. She slapped away the rag Rafael was holding to her forehead, glaring at him.
“What do you want from me?!” she yelled.
“Calm down, sweetheart. I helped you!”
“No, you had Diego bring me here, you monster!” she shouted. She sprang from the bed, running toward the door. Rafael didn’t stop her, just watched with his hands in his pockets as she tried futilely to open it.
“Where do you plan to run? To Alejandro?” Rafael asked, his tone mocking. “Didn’t he send you away? Is he even looking for you?” he added, stepping closer.
“You’ve been unhappy lately, Camila. I can guarantee you’d smile every day if you were with me. But instead, you choose sadness.” He sighed.
“I’ll never be with someone like you, Rafael!” Camila cried. “Not in this life, or the next, or any life connected to yours!” She glared at him, her tears betraying her defiance.
Rafael laughed darkly. “No one connected to me? Too late.”
Camila looked at him, confused. “What do you mean?”
Rafael feigned surprise. “Alejandro didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?” she demanded.
Rafael laughed, taking a seat and crossing his legs arrogantly. “Camila, do you think I’m just a thief stealing from others?”
She remained silent, still trying to comprehend.
“Everything I’ve taken from Alejandro rightfully belongs to me. The Ruiz Royal Estate is mine by birthright, but your precious Alejandro stole it from me,” Rafael spat, anger flaring.
“And now, I’m taking back what’s mine.” He stood and approached her, reaching out. She turned her face away, but he forcefully grasped her chin, making her look at him.
“You’re curious now, but I promise you’ll get the full story soon.” He smirked, releasing her chin and stepping back.
“You’re a monster,” she said through gritted teeth.
“Soon, you’ll realize that choosing me would be the best decision you could make.” He walked away, leaving her alone in the grand, empty room.

Lucia slowly opened her eyes to see George watching her closely. Noticing she was awake, he gently touched her face.
“Are you alright? Do you need anything?” he asked, his voice laced with worry.
“I’m fine… but why am I here?” she replied softly.
“You’re safe, love. I’ll call the doctor to make sure you’re okay.” He kissed her forehead and rushed out.
She wondered why George seemed overly cautious. Soon, the doctor came in to examine her.
“She’s fine, and her baby is healthy too,” the doctor announced.
Lucia froze. “What baby?” she asked, her voice trembling.
“Honey,” George said, holding her hand and kissing her knuckles tenderly. “We’re going to have a baby. You’re pregnant!”
Lucia placed her hand on her stomach. “I’m… pregnant?” she repeated, as though struggling to believe it.
“Yes, my love, you are!” George confirmed, and she hugged him tightly, tears of joy streaming down her face. She’d never pictured herself as a mother, but the thought filled her with happiness—especially with George as the father.
Outside the door, Perri stood watching, seething with anger.

“What do you mean she never returned?” Alejandro demanded angrily from Peter. “Why would you let her leave at that hour? What were you thinking?” He had been frantic since realizing Camila was missing.
“I tried everything to find her, but she’s nowhere,” he muttered.
“Even if she hadn’t left, they would’ve found a way to take her,” Peter replied, his tone grave.
Alejandro gave him a sharp look. “What are you saying?”
“Sir, the mansion was attacked last night. They came for Camila.”
