RACHEL’S pov.

M&M Restaurant<<

Silence surrounded us as I sat opposite Jacinta, and watched as she ate her ice cream.

“So…?”

She dropped her ice cream on the table, and stared at me for a moment.

“I’m two months pregnant, but I wanna get an abortion”

“What?!” I exclaimed loudly immediately she vomited those, which drew some attention -ok, it’s a lot of attention -towards our table.

I quickly lowered my head, and began sipping my coffee until everyone’s turned back to whatever they were doing before my alarming exclamation.

“Hold on” I told her, then paused and coughed lightly for a few seconds, as I choked on my coffee. “We can’t discuss two topics at once, let’s take it one at a time, yeah?”

She nodded.
I took a deep breath, and sighed.

“Great, so, what do you mean Mike changed after your wedding? I thought you guys were getting along just fine, what went wrong?” I asked in a calmer tone this time.

Jacinta scooped another spoonful of her chocolate ice cream, and shoved it in her mouth which made my mouth water as I secretly wished I was the one eating the ice cream instead.

Then she sighed tiredly.

“Everything was fine after our wedding, until two months ago when Mike started distancing himself from me, to the extent that he stopped sharing our bed with me, and started sleeping in one of the guestrooms”

What? He stopped sharing their matrimonial bed with his wife? What could be that serious?

“I couldn’t help having a feeling that he’s cheating on me”

I rolled my eyeballs when she mentioned the word ‘cheating’, because I know Jacinta has always being insecure when it comes to her relationship with Mike, I recalled she even had a fight with Mike about him cheating on her with me before their marriage, which wasn’t true at all.. could it be that’s the case here?

“He’s been secretly meeting with someone and…”

“Jacinta” I cut in here. “You need to calm down, maybe you’re just being paranoid for nothing”

“No, I’m not being paranoid, Rachel”

I smiled.

“Mike is a divorce lawyer, it’s very normal and understandable that he’d be seen with different women time most of the time”

Jacinta shook her head in disagreement, she reached for her bag and pulled out a photo.

“I know what I’m talking about, Rachel” she placed the photo on the table and pushed it towards me. “There” she gestured at the photo. “I have caught him staring at this photo several times, and he’d always hides it away everytime he saw me watching him”

“Really?” I asked as I reached for the photo.

“Yeah” she answered. “I even followed him few days back when he left the house at night, and saw him meeting with her in a restaurant”

She gestured at the photo again, and her voice was a little bit cracked at this point and her eyes watered.

“Could it be she’s his sugar mummy?” she asked.

I couldn’t help but laughed at her wild imagination, before finally staring at the photo, but who I saw on the photo made my jaw dropped, and my mouth fell open in surprise as my brows furrowed instantly.

Am I seeing things now? Isn’t this Mrs Jackson? Why would Mike be staring at Mrs Jackson’s photo? Or is Mike working on a divorce case for her? Divorce case? But why would she wanna divorce her husband at this old age? Or could this be her look alike?

“Rachel?” Jacinta called as she snapped her fingers across my eyes. “Say something”

I slowly raised my head, and stared at her confusingly before clearing my throat.

“Uh, I don’t think Mike is cheating on you with her”

“Really?”

“Yeah, this is my housekeeper and I know her character very well” she gave me a confused look. “She isn’t someone who’d cheat on her husband” I vouched for her.

Jacinta snatched the photo from me and stared at it for a moment.

“She’s your housekeeper?” she asked.

I nodded.

“Then what’s my husband doing with your housekeeper’s photo?” she asked again, giving me an even more confused look.

I shrugged my shoulders and shook my head cluelessly.

“That is what I don’t know” I answered.

Her question made my mind flashed back to earlier event that happened back home this morning, when I overheard Mrs Jackson’s phone conversation, and I couldn’t help but try finding a connection.

Could Jacinta’s fear be true? But judging from Mrs Jackson’s conversation, it doesn’t seemed like she was talking to her lover, she sounded so mad earlier.

Or could it be there’s some kind of illegal connection between them?

I must find out what’s going on, but looking down at my big baby bump, realization dawned on me that it’s not convenient for me to personally investigate this, my baby and I would be in grave danger if there’s truly some illegal business going on with them

It’s best I talk to Duncan about this, he’d know what to do and how to handle this.

“Rachel, say something” Jacinta urged me.

“Calm down”

I reached for her hand on the table, and gave her a reassuring squeeze.

“Don’t worry, I’ll talk to my husband about this, and we’ll ask our housekeeper about it, then I’ll let you know whatever she’ll say” I promised her after seeing her worried expression.

“Really?”

“Yeah, just chill” I assured her.

She closed her eyes, took a deep breath and nodded.

“Thank you very much, Rachel”

“Oh, please, it’s nothing”

“This issue has been bothering me, and I’m really happy I have you run to, or I’d have gone insane”

I laughed at her exaggeration, then my eyes moved to her flat tummy.

“Don’t get an abortion yet, let’s investigate more about this issue, and then we will know the next step to take”

Her hand moved to her tummy, and she rubbed it softly with a small smile.

“I was just angry, and… ” she trailed off, then looked down at her tummy. “I’m sorry baby” she whispered to her baby.

I smiled as I watched her, then continued drinking my coffee, and she soon continued eating her ice cream too.

“Let’s go shopping later, I wanna have a low-key baby shower next tomorrow”

“Wow, no problem!” she agreed.

Few minutes later<<

“I envy that you can eat whatever you’re craving for” I pouted my lips as I watched Jacinta packaging her ice creams.

“There’s nothing there to envy, Rachel” she said. “In fact, I’m envious of you because your mother-in-law is here to guide you”

She paused, and let out a sigh.

“Unfortunately for me, my mother-in-law is nowhere to be found, and my stepmother-in-law is a…” she trailed off as she thought of the right word to describe her stepmother-in-law.

“Is what?” I urged her to continued.

“A gold-digging bimbo who only cares about her beauty”

I rolled my eyeballs.

“She’s still your mother-in-law even though she’s a bimbo” I teased her.

“I’d rather I don’t have a mother-in-law”

We both laughed at her words.
Right, Mike’s biological mother left his father few months after their (Asher and Mike) birth, and they haven’t heard from her up till this day -Mike’s dad even forbade everyone from talking about her at home, and there aren’t any photos of her in the house.

“Rachel!” Jacinta booed in my ear.

“What?” I asked as I blinked my eyes in shock.

“This is the sixth time you’ve spaced out on me” she said and eyed me. “What were you thinking?”

“Oh, nothing, just some irrelevant things”
