“How do you feel?” Theresa asked as she watched Lucia admire herself in the mirror. Lucia wore a traditional Mexican gown. It was a stark contrast to her usual luxury dresses, but her father had taken everything else.
“The dress feels comfortable,” Lucia murmured.
“It does, but I can tell you’re still uncomfortable,” Theresa replied.
“Everything feels different, but don’t worry, mother-in-law. I adapt to changes quite easily,” Lucia quickly reassured her.
“It’s okay; you can call me ‘Mom’ now,” Theresa said, rolling her eyes as she watched Lucia’s face brighten.
“Really?” Lucia asked, delighted.
“All this time, I thought George was waiting for me to die before he settled down. I tried to set him up with other women, but it never worked out. Then you came along, and he got married at the airport! I should thank you,” Theresa laughed.
“It’s okay, Mom,” Lucia smiled. “I’ve had my own struggles with relationships, but I’m glad things worked out with George.”
Theresa nodded. “Come on, let’s go outside. I made food, and it’s been a long day. Even though I was caught off guard by your arrival, I can’t let you both starve,” she said, leaving the room. Lucia followed her.
“Wow,” George murmured as Lucia walked out. Her cheeks flushed a little from his gaze.
“I know I look a bit shabby right now, but you’ll have to make do for the time being. I believe things will get better,” Lucia said shyly, unable to meet his eyes.
George moved closer, pulling her by the waist, making her look up at him.
“Who told you that? If anything, you’re even more beautiful now,” he whispered.
“Stop flattering me,” Lucia pouted.
“I’m serious. I’ve never seen you without makeup or jewelry, and I like this natural look. Your face, your eyes, your naturally pink lips…”
“Okay, enough!” Lucia playfully hit him, trying to hide her smile.
The front door opened, and a young woman entered. “Good evening, Mom,” she greeted from the hallway as she took off her shoes.
Her eyes lit up when she saw George, and she immediately rushed into his arms, nearly knocking Lucia over.
“You didn’t tell me you were back! I missed you so much,” she said, pressing herself against him. Lucia noticed her chest pressing into him and frowned but remained silent.
The woman pulled away, finally noticing Lucia standing beside George. However, her main concern seemed to be why Lucia was wearing her clothes.
“And who’s this?” she asked, glaring at Lucia.
“This is Lucia,” George said, holding Lucia’s waist and pulling her closer. The woman’s eyes followed his movement. “My wife!”
Her eyes widened in shock. “Your… your what?”
“Yes, Perri, that’s his wife. I’m as surprised as you are,” Theresa said, coming out of the kitchen with a bowl of food.
“Lucia, this is Perri, my daughter and George’s sister,” Theresa introduced.
Lucia forced a smile and extended her hand. “Nice to meet you, Perri.”
Perri stared at her hand for a long moment, refusing to shake it, then angrily stormed off to her room.
“Don’t mind her. She’s probably upset that George didn’t tell her about the marriage or that you’re wearing her new dress,” Theresa said, placing the last bowl on the dining table.
“It’s a new dress?” Lucia asked, feeling guilty.
“It’s fine, sweetheart. She can get more later. Now, let’s eat,” George said, leading Lucia to the table.
It wasn’t as grand as what she was used to. Her bedroom could probably fit both the dining and living room. No fancy cutlery, just basic dishes and simple utensils.
“It’s okay, Lucia. You don’t need your parents. You’ll get used to this,” she thought to herself.

THE NEXT DAY IN TEXAS***
Alejandro and Camila had spent the day visiting different parts of Mexico. They explored San Antonio, Galveston, and several other places until dusk fell.
They were currently in Bulverde, watching a live rodeo show from the audience. Camila cheered with the other spectators, captivated by the sight of the rugged cowboys showing off their skills and charisma. Each move drove the crowd wild, and Camila was no exception.
Alejandro looked irritated. “You enjoy this?” he asked, almost in disbelief.
“I mean, they’re all skilled and seem to know how to handle those horses well,” Camila shrugged.
Alejandro stiffened. “Camila, did you just call these men attractive in front of me? Am I a joke to you? I give you rides far better than anything they could offer,” he said indignantly.
“You’re not actually jealous of these cowboys, are you?” Camila chuckled.
“Do I look jealous to you?” Alejandro scoffed.
“You can’t stand me cheering for them,” Camila teased.
“Oh, I’ll make you scream, alright. The whole neighborhood will hear you, and they’ll beg me to stop,” Alejandro replied, before turning to their tour guide. “We’re leaving.”
Camila’s eyes widened. “But the show isn’t over yet!”
“Oh, you’ll get a show,” Alejandro smirked.
“I’m not going anywhere!” Camila said defiantly, crossing her arms. Before she knew it, she was being lifted off the ground and carried out of the rodeo without her consent
