THERESA’S PLACE**
โHow do you feel?โ Theresa asked as she watched Lucia admire herself in the mirror. Lucia wore a traditional Mexican gown. It was a stark contrast to her usual luxury dresses, but her father had taken everything else.
โThe dress feels comfortable,โ Lucia murmured.
โIt does, but I can tell you’re still uncomfortable,โ Theresa replied.
โEverything feels different, but donโt worry, mother-in-law. I adapt to changes quite easily,โ Lucia quickly reassured her.
โItโs okay; you can call me โMomโ now,โ Theresa said, rolling her eyes as she watched Luciaโs face brighten.
โReally?โ Lucia asked, delighted.
โAll this time, I thought George was waiting for me to die before he settled down. I tried to set him up with other women, but it never worked out. Then you came along, and he got married at the airport! I should thank you,โ Theresa laughed.
โItโs okay, Mom,โ Lucia smiled. โIโve had my own struggles with relationships, but Iโm glad things worked out with George.โ
Theresa nodded. โCome on, letโs go outside. I made food, and itโs been a long day. Even though I was caught off guard by your arrival, I canโt let you both starve,โ she said, leaving the room. Lucia followed her.
โWow,โ George murmured as Lucia walked out. Her cheeks flushed a little from his gaze.
โI know I look a bit shabby right now, but youโll have to make do for the time being. I believe things will get better,โ Lucia said shyly, unable to meet his eyes.
George moved closer, pulling her by the waist, making her look up at him.
โWho told you that? If anything, youโre even more beautiful now,โ he whispered.
โStop flattering me,โ Lucia pouted.
โIโm serious. Iโve never seen you without makeup or jewelry, and I like this natural look. Your face, your eyes, your naturally pink lipsโฆโ
โOkay, enough!โ Lucia playfully hit him, trying to hide her smile.
The front door opened, and a young woman entered. โGood evening, Mom,โ she greeted from the hallway as she took off her shoes.
Her eyes lit up when she saw George, and she immediately rushed into his arms, nearly knocking Lucia over.
โYou didnโt tell me you were back! I missed you so much,โ she said, pressing herself against him. Lucia noticed her chest pressing into him and frowned but remained silent.
The woman pulled away, finally noticing Lucia standing beside George. However, her main concern seemed to be why Lucia was wearing her clothes.
โAnd whoโs this?โ she asked, glaring at Lucia.
โThis is Lucia,โ George said, holding Luciaโs waist and pulling her closer. The womanโs eyes followed his movement. โMy wife!โ
Her eyes widened in shock. โYourโฆ your what?โ
โYes, Perri, thatโs his wife. Iโm as surprised as you are,โ Theresa said, coming out of the kitchen with a bowl of food.
โLucia, this is Perri, my daughter and Georgeโs sister,โ Theresa introduced.
Lucia forced a smile and extended her hand. โNice to meet you, Perri.โ
Perri stared at her hand for a long moment, refusing to shake it, then angrily stormed off to her room.
โDonโt mind her. Sheโs probably upset that George didnโt tell her about the marriage or that youโre wearing her new dress,โ Theresa said, placing the last bowl on the dining table.
โItโs a new dress?โ Lucia asked, feeling guilty.
โItโs fine, sweetheart. She can get more later. Now, letโs eat,โ George said, leading Lucia to the table.
It wasnโt as grand as what she was used to. Her bedroom could probably fit both the dining and living room. No fancy cutlery, just basic dishes and simple utensils.
โItโs okay, Lucia. You donโt need your parents. Youโll get used to this,โ she thought to herself.

THE NEXT DAY IN TEXAS***
Alejandro and Camila had spent the day visiting different parts of Mexico. They explored San Antonio, Galveston, and several other places until dusk fell.
They were currently in Bulverde, watching a live rodeo show from the audience. Camila cheered with the other spectators, captivated by the sight of the rugged cowboys showing off their skills and charisma. Each move drove the crowd wild, and Camila was no exception.
Alejandro looked irritated. โYou enjoy this?โ he asked, almost in disbelief.
โI mean, theyโre all skilled and seem to know how to handle those horses well,โ Camila shrugged.
Alejandro stiffened. โCamila, did you just call these men attractive in front of me? Am I a joke to you? I give you rides far better than anything they could offer,โ he said indignantly.
โYouโre not actually jealous of these cowboys, are you?โ Camila chuckled.
โDo I look jealous to you?โ Alejandro scoffed.
โYou canโt stand me cheering for them,โ Camila teased.
โOh, Iโll make you scream, alright. The whole neighborhood will hear you, and theyโll beg me to stop,โ Alejandro replied, before turning to their tour guide. โWeโre leaving.โ
Camilaโs eyes widened. โBut the show isnโt over yet!โ
โOh, youโll get a show,โ Alejandro smirked.
โIโm not going anywhere!โ Camila said defiantly, crossing her arms. Before she knew it, she was being lifted off the ground and carried out of the rodeo without her consent
