Jasmine arched a brow and whisper something to rella’s ear “Aunt don’t tell me mom was the one you talked about earlier”

Aunty christina chuckled unbelievably. Was Rella really serious? At that moment, rella pray silently it shouldn’t be true.

Karan stood still watching the scenario Infront of him. He knew what was going on.

“Son please sit down” Aunty christina said, giving way for him. “You look so tired, Why don’t you take a day of?” She added and Rella meek a smile. She was looking keenly at him.

“I will aunt” He said

Aunty christina narrowed her gaze to rella who wasn’t paying much attention to them.

“Guess you haven’t had anything since morning, rella and i just finish preparing lunch, I’ll be right back”

Rella sighed deeply and let out an expression which says she want to help her. But she knows aunty christina so well, she wouldn’t want her to accompany her in the kitchen.

“Aunty let me accompany you” Rella said anxiously, trying to avoid Karan. She doesn’t want to face him now not in this state.

Aunty christina smiled “Jasmine should help me, you need to rest”

Jasmine arched a brow understanding what was going on, she smiled and say “Mom is right. Since you came, you have been busy arranging the living room and even prepared lunch, while I just sit at a corner doing nothing.” She lied, making a gasp escape rella and aunty Christina’s lips.

“I won’t tolerate lies in my house” Aunty Christina whispered to her ear, pulling it hard and she winced in pain.

“Aunt am fine, let me h” karan’s voice disrupted her words.

“Stay with me baby” His melody’s voice made her shivered.

Rella could see the smile on aunty christina and jasmine cheeks, they were very happy as they approach the kitchen.

Rella was dumbfounded and narrowed her gaze to karan. She was panting heavily with her head bow joining him on the couch as she awaited him to scold her, which he never did.

She stole a glimpse of him and caught him facing the floor. He was looking troubled and same time lost. Rella could see it, it was obvious.

She narrowed her eyes round the living room before bring them back to him but her heartbeat stopped the moment she saw him staring at her.

“Karan” She stuttered.

“Why are you troubled?” He said when he saw her acting strange. His head might be bowed but he can tell when someone wasn’t comfortable around him.

“I’m sorry” She said

“For what exactly?” He asked, with his gaze still on her.

“For everything. Sorry for not asking you who angel was.” She said truthfully, resting her palm on his thigh.

Karan smirked subconsciously stretching his hand towards her, removing the strand of hair covering her face before caressing it.

She have been ruffling her hair earlier at the kitchen while talking to her aunt and had forgotten to arrange it properly.

Rella placed her hand on her hair trying to do it herself but karan stop her giving her a sign he got it. He was almost done.

Rella smiled “Thank you” She said the moment he was done and karan shook his head.

“Where is the cardigan you wore this morning? She asked. She knows karan so well, he hardly take of his Cardigan. It’s either he’s wearing it or holding it.

“I misplaced it” He lied, of course he lied. Bella hair scent was different from rella and he had carried her earlier to the couch. Obviously, rella will nag him the moment she perceive it on his cardigan. He needed to do the needful to protect his marriage.

Jasmine walked in with a food tray interrupting their discussion, she smirked at them suspiciously placing the tray on the table Infront of them with aunty christina standing beside her.

Karan licked his lips and took a tiny bite from it.

“Delicious” Karan complimented. Of course why wouldn’t it be delicious his wife had prepared it.

Aunty christina and jasmine smiled.

Melody was approaching her room with elizabeth tracing behind her. Charles had gone to bed immediately after dinner.

“Why are you following me nanny?” Melody asked suspiciously, she was acting strange.

“Am fine nanny, I believe in my self so much and I’ll never let any mistake stop me from believing on myself–I will just learn from it and move on ” She sighted “Everything happens for a reason nanny and it’s all for the best.” She added, not blinding her eyelid.

“I know you’re still hurt. But for me I have slowly accepted the fact that life doesn’t always go the way we want. Sometimes we have to say goodbye to the ones who mean the most to us. Because sometimes, they are the ones who are slowly killing us inside.” Elizabeth consoled her thinking of her first love.

Melody sniffed “I just can’t forget about that soul” She said sincerely

“The reason you can’t let go of what’s making you sad is because it was the only thing that made you happy. But the truth is, some people are worth giving up on. Many guys will want you ms, but not want to love you. There is a difference between wanting you and wanting to love you. Choose to be loved and not to be used.”

“Nanny, have you ever love someone? ” Melody asked making the smile on elizabeth’s face disappeared.

“Yes I have, but he isn’t mine. I don’t want to ever love again ” She said, sadly.

“Why nanny? Don’t you plan on getting married soon so you can leave with your partner and who’s your first love” She said inquisitively.

“Maybe I don’t deserve love neither to be loved.” Elizabeth muttered.

“Nanny, you’re rare, so people are gonna fall in love with the idea of having you, but most of them aren’t used to rare things, they’re foreign to it, so they’ll lack the capacity to treat you as such. And that’s where they lose you.” Melody corrected her. She was beginning to love her.

“It hurts when you have someone in your heart and can’t have them in your life. ” Elizabeth winch sadly, touching her heart.

“Nanny I understand, please don’t cry. I understand your pain as well. Looking back, I should have known christopher wasn’t mine either, but my heart wouldn’t listen. While my intuition was screaming silently, I fell head over heels for him–but now, I wonder if that was really him. Maybe he had showed me what I wanted to see, showered me with love I wanted to feel and showed me a future that I wanted to believe in. Truthfully, I should have seen the red flags and warning signs, but we often close our eyes to the truth when feeling are involved.” melody mumbled, wiping the tiny tears on elizabeth’s cheek.

Elizabeth smiled and say “Never regret your time together or what happened, because it taught you a lot about yourself, love and what you will never allow again. The bad taste in your mouth still lingers, but with each passing day, it lessens just a little more. Soon, he will just be a faded memory and a lesson you had to learn.” she took an intake of breath “For me, I’m not going to be blind for love. I’ll embrace the opportunity to find love if it comes calling, but I’m not knocking on that door any time soon. I’m so busy making myself and my life better, not bitter. I don’t need to be fixed, saved or completed _ I just want to be appreciated, respected and loved for who I’m. I don’t want to ask for the things I expect and deserve. This time, I’m finding my love within, not with men _ I’m worth that and much, much more ” she smiled.

Melody love her words of encouragement and how she’s busy working on herself. Her love life is going to be interesting and amazing, she pray she find love soon and if she do, she will surely support her decision.

“You should go to bed now and I hope this time, when you see the signs, you don’t ignore them. I hope this time when you see the lack of effort, you don’t force it, you pick-up and go. I hope this time, you save yourself before you even get damaged. ” Elizabeth said, waking away.

Karan was seated at the back sit looking through the window blade. Matthew sat in the driver sit, with a sad look on his face as he silently observed his boss, who was lot in thoughts.

“Boss” he called. Karan signal him to go on.

“Boss what’s eating you up since morning? please, don’t shut me out of your life. You can confide in” Matthew pleaded gently, staring at him through the front mirror.

Matthew observed that he had been moody since they left the penthouse. Each time he asks him what the problem is, he’ll just wave it aside and wear a fake smile.

Karan inhaled, he thought for a moment, matthew wasn’t a stranger anymore to him.

He heaved a long sigh and broke his silence “Math” Karan called, clearing his throat “These past few days, have been lying to my wife and for the first time, I carried another woman on my arms” He said feeling guilty.

Matthew understood what he was trying to say. Rella was the first and only woman he have carried on his arms and had promised not to carry any other lady except her but he have broken that promise.

“Boss it isn’t your fault, at that moment you weren’t thinking straight and you did the right thing by helping her” matthew explained, trying to take the guilt of him.

Aunty christina approached the car with rella and jasmine behind still hugging and sobbing.

“Son” she called. Karan whine down the window blade–she could still get a proper glimpse of his face with the light reflecting from the compound.

She held unto karan’s hand through the window blade “Marriage is hard-work dear, marriage maybe made on heaven but they are maintain here on earth. Please” She release her hand, joining it together leaving matthew and Karan in shock.

“Please son, take good care of your marriage. You can serve and help other countries but don’t forget about your own country and your home, protect it” She said wiping the tears that threatened to escape her eyes.

“Aunt I understand, I promise to protect my home.” He uttered.

Aunty christina spotted rella approaching them, she gave way for her to enter the car.

“Is everything alright?” Rella asked the moment she sat down.

“Yes dear, take care” Aunty Christina responded helping her shut the door.

Jasmine held unto her mom as they watched them drove away.

The drive home was cool as matthew wasn’t paying any attention to them, his gaze was on the road.

Karan was outside through the window blade lost in thought. Rella has been staring at him for awhile now, he haven’t utter one word neither hold her but she must admit–karan was more than handsome.

Since two days now Karan haven’t touched her and she missed it.

Karan moved his gaze from the window facing her way, his eyes locked with hers. Her face was so close with that of his that he could predict her next move.

When her lips almost met with his, he narrowed his gaze back to the window, retaliating from the kiss.

Rella smirked disgustedly, she knew instantly something wasn’t right, this wasn’t her Karan. The Karan she known will never retaliate from something he enjoyed doing everyday.

She turned to the other side admiring the lonely road through the window blade. She was trying to baffles the tears that threatened to come out of her eyes.

Matthew who was trying to keep his focus on the road had seen what happened through the mirror. He was taken aback by karan’s new behaviour.
