“This isn’t up for discussion. Your mother and I have decided to move up the date of your marriage—sooner than you think,” Mr. Landon said firmly.
“How soon?” Lucia whispered, her heart sinking.
“Lucia, baby…” Mrs. Landon gave her a sympathetic look. “You’re getting married tomorrow.”
“What?” Lucia almost screamed.
“You left us no choice, Lucia,” Mr. Landon replied, his tone void of remorse. “You’ve been engaged to Fernando since you were a child. Why would you go and get involved with your bodyguard, of all people? The boy has no status!” he added, disappointed.
“But it doesn’t matter, Dad. I love him,” Lucia cried.
“You finally admit you love him, you foolish girl!” Mr. Landon shouted so loudly that he began to cough. Mrs. Landon rubbed his back to calm him down.
“I don’t care anymore, Dad. I’m leaving this house and going to the man you despise!” Lucia said angrily, opening the door, but the guards blocked her path.
“Move out of my way!” she demanded, trying to slip past them, but they blocked her again. “Get out of my way! Are you all willing to lose your jobs?” she yelled.
“They’re following orders, Lucia,” Mr. Landon replied, nodding at a guard who swiftly took Lucia’s phone from her.
“Hey!” Lucia shouted, but the guard handed the phone to her father.
“Sarah!” Mr. Landon called, and a middle-aged maid entered.
“Escort Lucia to her room. Ensure she sleeps early to be well-rested for her wedding tomorrow,” he ordered.
Sarah approached Lucia cautiously, but Lucia shot her a deadly glare. “Don’t you dare touch me! No one is to speak to me again!” she screamed in anguish before running to her room and slamming the door.
“Do you think we were too harsh on her?” Mrs. Landon asked, glancing toward Lucia’s room.
“There’s nothing harsh about it! This is all for the family’s sake, and if she can’t handle it, that’s her problem!” Mr. Landon scoffed, turning his attention back to Sarah.
“Make sure she’s up early tomorrow. I don’t care what stunt she pulls; she must be dressed and ready for the wedding, or you can kiss your job goodbye. Understand?” he said, giving her a clear warning.
Sarah gulped; she’d been working here for ten years and had nowhere else to go.
“Understood, sir,” she nodded.

EVENING, ALAN’S PLACE***
Valeria’s car pulled up at the back of the house. She got out and adjusted her hoodie, dressed head-to-toe in black, with a loose fit to avoid any hindrance to her plans.
Two men exited the car, retrieving a ladder from the trunk. They set it up against the wall, one climbing to the house and then quietly opening the gate.
“It’s open,” the man whispered.
Valeria turned to them. “Both of you, keep an eye out, and if I call, break in immediately,” she ordered.
“Yes, ma’am,” they nodded.
Valeria entered the compound carefully. The door was locked, so she used a hairpin to pick it and snuck inside. The place was dark and quiet, but luckily, she knew the way to Alan’s room. Back when she was with Elijah, he’d taken her to all his friends’ houses.
Alan was the type to go to bed early. She reached his room and slowly pushed the door open. Alan was in bed, just as she expected, fast asleep.
She smirked, pulling out a small knife. Her hand trembled as she approached him.
“You’ve done this before, Valeria; it shouldn’t be that hard,” her mind echoed.
She took a deep breath and struck, stabbing multiple times, only to find an arranged pillow under the blanket.
“I had a feeling you’d try something like this,” Alan said, stepping out from behind her with his hands in his pockets. “I’ve finally helped you accept who you truly are,” he smirked.
“Yes, and I’m glad you did,” she replied, lunging at him with the knife again. Alan dodged, and Valeria began stabbing anything in her path.
“I’d rather die than watch you reveal anything about me! I won’t leave until you’re dead!” she screamed, charging at him, but missed and tripped, crashing into the glass window. It shattered, and she fell with a scream.
Alan’s eyes widened, realizing she’d fallen. He ran to check and, fortunately, saw her clinging to a brick ledge.
“Valeria, hang on! I’ll come to get you,” he said, but she gave him a menacing smile.
“I’ll let go myself. The police will come rushing in, and what will they think when they see a dead girl on your property? You’ll be in serious trouble, Alan,” she sneered, laughing hysterically.
“Valeria, don’t!” Alan shouted in alarm, but she released her fingers, letting gravity take her.
