Alejandro stopped the car when they arrived at a construction site. He parked in the designated area and opened the door for Camila. Both of them were dressed in personal protective equipment.
“Wow,” Camila exclaimed, amazed by the sheer size of the place. The site was bustling with workers and filled with the noise of machinery.
“You should wear these,” Alejandro said, handing her a pair of safety goggles. Camila put them on as he held her hand firmly, guiding her into the busy building.
“Mr. Ruiz, it’s a pleasure to see you today,” a man greeted them, offering a polite nod to Camila, who smiled in return.
“How are things progressing, Ben?” Alejandro asked, his tone businesslike.
“Everything is going well, sir. However, we’re having some issues with a few machines, but we’ve paused them for repairs,” Ben replied.
“I’ll take a look at them myself,” Alejandro said, then turned to Camila, his voice softening. “It’s noisy and dusty in there. Can you wait here for me?” he asked gently.
“But I’ll be fine if I go in with you,” Camila pouted.
“There’s no need to worry, Mr. Ruiz. She’ll be safe. We have spare hearing protection available,” Ben reassured him. Alejandro nodded and led Camila inside.
The scene inside was even more intense. Workers were hauling cement, shoveling sand, and breaking materials. Everyone seemed to be fully occupied.
“Here you go, ma’am,” Ben said, handing Camila a pair of hearing aids. He gave some to Alejandro and kept one for himself as he began to give them a tour.
“These are the faulty machines,” Ben indicated an area where several machines were set aside.
“That’s quite a few. If these aren’t repaired soon, it could delay the project,” Camila observed, her tone tinged with concern.
“We’re aware of that, ma’am. We’re working on the repairs, but the machines keep breaking down,” Ben explained as three more malfunctioning machines were wheeled in.
“Perhaps the machines aren’t of the highest quality. You might want to reconsider your supplier,” Camila suggested, shrugging.
“We’ve been in a long-term partnership with the Torres Group. It’s hard to believe they’d provide us with substandard equipment,” Ben said, looking puzzled.
“This is business, Ben. Not everyone operates with integrity. The more these machines fail, the more you order, and the more profit they make,” Camila replied, then turned to Alejandro. “I’m sorry if I overstepped, but I think it’s something worth considering.”
Alejandro looked at her thoughtfully, then turned to Ben. “My wife makes a valid point. Inform Torres that I want these machines repaired by the end of the day, or we will reconsider our partnership,” he instructed firmly.
Ben nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. They continued their tour, with Alejandro providing insights and suggestions before leaving the site with Camila.
“I’m starving,” Camila pouted as she climbed into the car.
“I’ll drop you off at Lucia’s place. I have more meetings scheduled and don’t want to tire you out,” Alejandro informed her as he started the engine.
“When will you be back?” Camila asked.
“By evening. I’ll do my best not to be too late,” he assured her, and Camila nodded.
As the car pulled up to Lucia’s place, Camila leaned over and gave Alejandro a peck on the lips.
“Is that all? I need more,” Alejandro teased, moving closer. Camila kissed him again but made it brief, not wanting to delay him.
“I’ll take care of the PPE. Lucia likely has a dry cleaner, so I’ll have them cleaned. If I get bored, I’ll head home,” Camila informed him.
“Yes, wifey,” Alejandro responded with a smile. Camila gave him another peck before stepping out of the car. Alejandro waited until she was safely inside before driving off.
