Amarachi was preparing to go out as mama and Nkem sat over a meal, talking about how they worried for Joe’s safety. She had an appointment with Ben.
“I just hope Joe doesn’t get too emotional, he gives himself away. He’s always too temperamental, and I doubt he’ll be able to manage his emotions” mama said worriedly.
“That’s my worry too mama. Joe has never known how to pretend, and it worries me sîck what will happen if Mandy and Farida finds out that he already knows everything” Nkem complained.
“Oh please! You two can rest already! How sènseless do you think my brother is?
“He knows what’s at stake and he knows that it won’t be just about him, but both of you will be at risk if Mandy knows the truth.
“You think he won’t learn to be able to do what he has to do, when he knows what he stands to lose with just a slip?” Amarachi asked them, putting on her shoes.
“But when will all these end? When will Mandy and her daughter be shown the way to where they deserve to be?” Mama asked, her brows knitted.
“Relax mama, we’re moving in on them very soon. I’m going out now to meet my friend Ben, and from all indications, things will soon be okay.
“We’ll soon have evidences of their crĂmes and they’ll be where they deserve to be” Amarachi assured them.
Her phone rang almost immediately, and it was Ben, calling her to tell her that he was outside their house.
“Mama, I’ll be back soon. Please take care of sister Nkem” Amarachi said before she bounced out of the house.
She got into Ben’s car and they drove towards a fancy restaurant where they sat to a decent mea, both trying not to venture into the topic they’re both yearning to talk about.
Instead, while they ate, Ben began to talk about the things he has found out and the plans he was making.
“I have put some stuff in Mandy’s house, and I was only able to reach her because I was able to convince her that after I placed what’s she she asked me to place on Mama’s face, I left the place immediately to avoid any suspiciĂ´n
“I systematically told her that I didn’t have the chance to bring out the prayer item from the paper wrap that it came with, to prevent the nurses from noticing that I was doing something there.
“And this woman humphed in frustrà tion. She told me I didn’t allow the potency of the prayer item out” Ben told Amarachi.
“Hmmm, that’s to say she still believes that you’re ignorant of her crafty scheming right?” Amarachi asked Ben.
“She is, and that’s why she allowed me get so close that I was able to plant the bugs that are now in her car.
“If I tune in now, we’ll be able to monitor what’s going on inside her car” Ben told Amarachi.
“Like now? Are you saying you can listen to whatever she’s saying inside that car now?” Amarachi asked Ben.
“Better than that baby! We can get both audio and visual signals from the different kind of bugs I placed inside her car.
“Let me show you” he told her, pulling out his laptop, clicking quickly on some part, and boom, the interiors of Mandy’s car was in full glare.
And just as if she was waiting for them to get their apparatus for viewing the car ready before she came in, Mandy opened the car and sat inside with a frustrĂ ted yelp.
“What is wrong with this Max anyways? Who is he to decide when I come out to see him and when I don’t?” they heard Mandy complain as she sat in the car, searching for something in her phone.
“What is she talking about?” Amarachi asked, wondering who Max was, and why Mandy seemed to be agitated about him.
“Hello Farida, you see what I told you about that silly and poor church rat you said you loved, can you see how problematic he is becoming?
“Do you now agree with me that it was a stupîd thing for you to have told him you were pregnant before you moved into Joe’s house?
“First, he came to your husband’s house, touching and kissing you at will, and had the effrontery to argue with me about my complaints of his recklessness, until that old wïtch that has refused to dië, heard it all!
“We were only able to escape that problem he created because miraculously, even if the wïtch refused to dië from the beating we gave her, she now had partial à mnesia and can’t remember anything, then I had to sleep with the CCTV guy, to get things erased
“And now, he wants to be the one who calls the shot! He won’t let me have a moment of rest with calls, asking me to meet him up here or there.
“The idiòt is daily becoming unbearable, and I may be forced to do something about him now!” they heard Mandy say into her phone receiver, and Amarachi had her hand over her mouth.
“This woman is…” Amarachi was saying, when they saw Mandy pull out some substances from her pigeonhole.
She tucked it into her trouser pocket, and straightened her clothes before she stepped out of the car.
“Now what? How can we tell what she’s up to now?” Amarachi asked worriedly.
“Relax my dear, whatever it is now, she believes that she had been able to fool everyone with what happened to your mother, and she’s more concerned about the Max guy.
“And as it stands now, it’s safe to conclude that Max is the one responsible for Farida’s baby, and he had visited your brother’s house.
“Something Mandy didn’t want, but couldn’t stop. The dude was reckless around Farida, and your mother saw things she wasn’t supposed to see.
“They attacked the woman to keep her from saying those things, and when she didn’t dië, she came to the hospital to finish her off.
“Again, she failed with the ventilator stunt, and she recruited me, and you know the rest of the story.
“So right now, I’m certain she wouldn’t be paying you guys attention.
“Chances are, she’d be pouncing on the Max guy, the one she now says is unbearable” Ben analyzed.
“I wish you have also placed the bûgs in her house too. It would have enabled us see what’s happening there” Amarachi said, fidgeting at the thought of the woman hatching a hidèous plan inside her house
“It’s not going to be a problem. I don’t want to be the one who pushes to get invited to her house to avoid suspicion
“I know that sooner than later, she’ll invite me over, because as it stands now, she thinks I’ve become a sëx toy” Ben said, looking down in shame.
“And that’s another aspect of it! How are you going to be able to get things done without having to let that woman crawl all over you?” Amarachi asked, pouting.
“Come on! You don’t have to look so sad Amara, you think if she hadn’t used the dãmn à phrodisiac she used earlier, that I would have fancied anything about her?
“When she invites me, we’ll work out a way around it. Because believe me Amara, we need to get those eyes and ears in her house” Ben was still saying when his phone began to ring.
And yes, it was Mandy calling him to know where he was.
“Okay, can you please come over to Platinums Hotel? I’ve been missing you so badly, an I don’t know if you’d be able to come around in the next couple of minutes” she asked him.
“Of course I can, but after what happened in the hospital with the footages, I’ve been under watch, and I know it.
“So, I’m trying all I can not to be seen around with any of the parties accused of making attempts on the old woman’s life.
“If anyone sees us together, they may begin to imagine that there was something else in the footage you made me delete, when Infact you have only been trying to play safe” he told her.
“Yeah, I understand, so it’d be safer if we met in my house right? That way, you know how to find your way in and out without getting noticed… okay, I’m waiting for you” she concluded and hung up
