9 Mistakes To Avoid In A New Relationship

The early days of a relationship can be blissful but fraught. Those early days of a relationship often pass in a fog of bliss. Texts from friends go unreturned; entire weekends are lost in bed. But many relationships crumble by the three-month mark when you start to see the other person’s flaws, but before the partnership becomes so solid and a defined entity. If you can weather the three-month point, those early days will set the tone for your future relationship. What are the common mistakes people make at the start of relationships and how you can avoid them?

    (1.) COMING ON TOO STRONG:

It is good to know what you want from your prospective partner, and to be cleared about that. But it is off-putting to lay everything out on the table straight away. Don’t set out your 20-year plan on the first few dates. It can be intimidating. It also means that you have negated the opportunity to see how things would develop naturally with that person.

(2.) BEING TOO RIGID IN WHAT YOU WANT:

It’s good to have an idea of the sort of person whom you would like to settle down with. But being too rigid in the early stages of a relationship can kill promising romances to dead. Think about what other person is as an individual, not in terms of their political beliefs or whether they are vegan or whatever. Put away the checklist. It’s not a great idea to interview someone on the first few dates. Asking them how much they are earning, or about their home-owning situation it’s not an organic way to get to know someone. You are a prospective partner, not a recruitment consultant.

    (3.) PERFORMING FOR THEM:

In early relationships, you often want to put your best foot forward be the cool girl or boy who is up for anything, never complains and always looks fabulous. When you start dating someone newly, you can put on a bit of a show. You are trying to perform, instead of being authentic. But it’s an exhausting pretence to maintain long-term. Why not just be yourself? I try to encourage people to realize it’s cooler to just be yourself. If you’re trying too hard to perform around someone, they are probably not the right person for you anyway.

(4.) NOT LEARNING FROM PAST RELATIONSHIPS:

Look back at your last relationship and see what went wrong. Ask yourself: What am I doing wrong in relationships? How accountable should I be?’ Perhaps you have a habit of dating emotionally unavailable people, or you struggle to respect boundaries. By doing some work on yourself, you will be better placed for a future healthy relationship.

    (5.) MOVING TOO FAST:

When you are caught up in the dopamine rush of a new relationship, it can be crashed through all the major milestones as fast as possible. A lot of people make the mistake of moving too fast in general. Telling someone you think they are the one and you are deeply connected to them after date one or two is not great for everybody involved.
Don’t meet the friends and family for at least three months. It’s ok to take things at a slower pace sometimes. People want to get in there and meet friends and parents and live in each other’s lives after a very short time. But it’s ok to take it at a slower pace. If you go rushing along and the whole thing collapses after three months, you may end up feeling bereft.

    (6.) IGNORING RED FLAGS:

You have been dating someone for a few weeks, it seems to be perfect and then they are rude to a waitress or trash-talk their ex. Don’t ignore red flags. Red flags are important, because they mean you should step back from that relationship. Maybe you hate it when people raise their voice, then they shout at you but you find them so attractive, you ignore it. If you ignore red flags, you will end up in a horrible relationship. Besides, anyone who is rude to a waitress is definitely not worth your time.

    (7.) POSTING TOO MUCH ONLINE:

Be mindful of what you post on social media. It can feel wonderful to think you’ve met your soulmate, but remember that if it’s going to be an important relationship, you don’t have to rush things. Which means: hold off on the loving romantic tributes, for now. If you post: I’m in a fabulous relationship, I think this is the one,’ your new partner might see that and if that’s not where their head is at, you’ve kiboshed it before it’s even started. Or if it doesn’t work out, you might feel embarrassed.

(8.) NOT ESTABLISHING CLEAR BOUNDARIES EARLY ON:

The first three months of a relationship set the tone for the rest of your time together. If you’ve allowed the relationship to be on your partner’s terms, you will find it hard to come back from that. You need to respect yourself and have clear boundaries when it comes to dating someone. Be brave enough to put your boundaries up and say: This is what I need and what I desire. A lot of people are scared to express how they want to be treated for fear of being rejected. But it’s better to know it earlier than later. Besides, people are attracted to people who know their own worth, rather than accepting the crumbs and scraps of poor behaviour, because they think it’s all they can get. Don’t be afraid to challenge your partner or pull them up on their behaviour in those early months if you let things slide now, you will be letting them slide forever.

    (9.) DON’T BE TOO AVAILABLE:

When you think you have found the one, it can be tempting to cancel all your plans and hole up together. You stop contacting your friends, and start scheduling your entire life around when you may see them. You sideline any hobbies or interests you have.
But if you do this, you may end up isolated from your support systems in an unhealthy relationship. Couples who spend all their time together don’t seem to work out. It becomes toxic and codependent. Rather, embrace some healthy distance. You need to have friendships, hobbies and interests outside your relationship. Beware the love bubble it always bursts, whether you like it or not.

    .
    (Caught In A Dilemma)

Roman walked out of the room where Beatrice was kept feeling so guilty. He ran into the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror looking into it.

He removed his mask and dropped it on the pavement where the basins were. He bent his head and opened the tap taking some water in his hand and washing off his face with it.

“Hey!” He heard someone call behind him and it happened to be one of the men but this one is a little close to him.

“Hey Daniel,” Roman responded brushing back his black curly hair with his hand.

“What’s wrong? You don’t look happy.” Daniel said approaching Roman.

“How do you expect me to be happy when all we do is kidnap and torture people?” Roman asked looking into the mirror again.

“C’mon Roman, we aren’t torturing anyone,” Daniel said smiling.

“We are. Haven’t you seen that beautiful lady’s hand? Can’t you see how red and swollen it is?” Roman asked in anger.

“Roman,” Daniel called narrowing his gaze at Roman.

“What? Why are you looking at me like this?” He asked

“You called her beautiful.” He said with a smile on his face and Roman sighed.

“Seriously? I said something important, Daniel! And that’s the only thing you can remember?” Roman said and Daniel busted into laughter.

“Sorry! My bad!” He said and Roman breathed out picking up his face mask.

“Roman whatever happens to the victims shouldn’t affect you. You are here for the money, you should focus on that.” Daniel said and he shook his head.

“I am here for no money. I curse my father for pulling me into this mess! I can’t believe he worked with heartless people like this.” Roman said in regret and Daniel sighed.

“Thinking about that now would make you do something stupid. So please forget about that and come serve the boss.” Daniel muttered.

“I would prefer they looked for someone else to serve, I can’t keep meeting with those victims seeing them this way,” Roman stated holding his mask in his hand and walking to the door of the bathroom.

“Wait. You are acting differently.” Daniel said and Roman looked at him.

    “How?” Roman asked.

“You are so concerned about this victim than the others. Why?” He asked and Roman sighed.

“I am concerned about everyone that comes here. Not only her.” Roman lied walking out of the bathroom.

“You can’t fall in love with a victim you know?” Daniel told following behind him.

“And who is talking about love?” Roman asked.

“No one. But I can see it written clearly on your face.” Daniel mumbled and Roman looked at him.

“I am wearing a mask dummy,” Roman said and they both laughed.
He walked to the kitchen and he met Damon in there.

“Why are you yet to serve us?” He asked in his hoarse voice.

“I am the sorry boss. I will do just that.” Roman said rushing to the pot and Damon stood in his way.

“Look at me Kiddo! You can’t keep acting this way. Your father was smarter than you are.” He said grabbing him by the neck and Roman grew angry.

“But you ended up taking his life. Is that how to repay a smart person?” Roman asked and Damon in fury punched him in the face.

“How dare you! Your father tried to play smarter than I. I had to show him who is superior. If you try the same thing, you would have the same fate.” Damon roared.

Damon’s phone began to ring and this made him release his neck.

“Serve me my food now,” Damon ordered drawing out his phone from his pockets and walking away.

He got to where he knew Roman couldn’t hear him and then picked up the call.

“How is she?” He asked from the other end.

“Fine. She is doing fine.” Damon responded.

“You are not to hurt her now. Once I get what I want, you can do whatever you want with her.” He told and Damon nodded.

“Got it, Sir,” Damon responded and hung up the call. He looked back at Roman and saw he was busy serving the food on his favorite plate.

He kept mute and walked past Roman to the door. Immediately he stepped out, Roman breathed out in anger throwing the spoon he was using across the kitchen.

“Don’t damage the spoon. You would have to work to get another one again.” Daniel said behind him and he looked back.

“I hate what I am doing! I want to quit.” Roman said feeling so full of guilt.

“You and I know quitting isn’t that easy. You are yet to repay half of what your father stole from Damon. You will be here for a long time dude.” Daniel explained and Roman kept mute.

“Okay.” He replied and Daniel furrowed his brows.

“I don’t trust that okay. Don’t tell me you want to plan something because I feel it’s stupid already.” Daniel said and Roman smirked.

“I said okay. Why are you overthinking it?” Roman and Daniel shook his head

“Nothing. You just have to be careful.” He said walking out of the kitchen and Roman glared into space.
