“Hey Emily, I’ve been trying to call you all day. What happened to your phone?” Audrey asked Emily, smiling brightly, as she sat besides her.
“I was speaking with my husband Audrey, I decided to let him know that I wanted a divorce, just like you advised, but he kinda made me see why dīvorce wouldn’t be in our best interest.
“He even agreed to make amends. You won’t believe it Audrey, the cursed girl that has been keeping my husband away from the house, has been calling him all day, and he told her right in my presence to stay away from him and his family!
“Audrey, my husband had to switch off his phone since then, because he didn’t want her to reach him again” Emily told her friend happily.
“Oh! That’s that’s won wonderful” Audrey stuttered, looking up at Brad, who had fidgeting bãdly since she got I to the house
“But, what are you going to do now? Are you also going to abandon the one who has been making you happy all these while that your husband remained absent?
“Will you break-up with the one who has filled in for your husband too?” she asked, intentionally rambling on, even when Emily was trying to signal her to be quiet.
“What do you mean the one that filled in for me?” Brad asked, his heart beginning to beat rather too fast.
He looked at his wife, and noticed she was fidgeting as she looked at the man that had come in with Audrey.
At first, he had surmised that Audrey brought a man, to make him jealous, but with the way the man was looking at his wife, and she, feeling so uncomfortable with his presence, Brad began to worry.
“I think you should ask your wife. She is in a better position to answer that question” Audrey said, looking away from Emily.
“Erm Audrey, I think it’s time you left my house. My wife is clearly uncomfortable with your visit, and like she has said, we have decided to build our home and mend the holes your input has created.
“You have been advising my wife behind my back to dīvorce me, while you worked your way to get your plans perfected.
“But guess what Audrey, we’re wiser now. My wife has agreed to fìght for our marriage, and I have decided to be a better husband to her” Brad spat.
“Oh really, will Emily not be a fōōl to assume that a man who could start dating her best friend few weeks after their wedding, and remained literally a visitor to his home because of nights of endless pleasures, will suddenly become a good husband?” Audrey said, determined to ensure that the couple had the troubles she wanted them to have.
She had nothing to lose after all. If Brad was truly going to leave her after wasting her time, she wasn’t going to allow him return to his family as if all was well.
“Audrey! Jesus! Audrey, you’ve been the rat biting and blowing me? Audrey, you’ve been dating my husband and still managed to make me chase shadows?” Emily asked in tears.
Audrey rolled her eyes nonchalantly. What use was Emily to her, if she wasn’t going to have access to Brad after all?
“I’m sorry sweetheart, it’s all my fault. I know I let you down, but I’m going to spend the rest of my days, making it up to you” Brad said, looking truly sorry.
“It’s okay honey, I’ve always known you were doing something bãd, and I have forgiven you for it, I just didn’t know that the one I allowed into my home, with open hands, was actually the one breaking my home” Emily said.
“Okay Audrey, it’s time to go. You can go ahead and leave now with your boyfriend. I have seen him, and I really do not care if he starts screwing you as soon as you get out of this door, because like I told you over the phone, I’m done with you, or any other person for that matter.
“It’s time to focus on my wife and my family” he said, pulling Audrey up from the seat.
“Let me go at once you scoündrel. Who told you Sylvester is my boyfriend?
“I know you don’t care who your woman screws, but what if the gentleman won’t let your wife throw him aside as easily as you threw me away, after being together for so long?” Audrey quipped, making Brad freeze in his path.
“Say that again!” Brad said, his eyes narrowing, and his heart thudding heavily in fright, as the reality of what he had suspected when the man kept looking at his wife, began to unfold.
“Honey, I planned to tell you. I would have told you, but I was waiting to put things right with Sylvester first.
“I’m sorry that you’re going to hear it this way, but Audrey made me do it. She made me start a relationship with Sylvester who had been chasing me, long before we got married, when I began to.miss you so bãdly.
“I know it’s not an excuse, but you were always away, and Audrey made me believe my marriage would be more peaceful if I had someone to take care of my needs and keep me from troubling or nagging you” Emily said, crying some more.
“I can’t believe this! So Audrey, you kept my wife preoccupied with another man, to give you the chance to have me to yourself. How ingenious!” Brad spoke through clenched teeth.
“Please honey, forgive me for this mistake, and we’ll build our home in peace, take care of our daughter and wait happily for the one unborn.
“I promise never to have anything to do with Sylvester or any other man again, no matter what” she pledged.
“Oh really? So just like Audrey had said, you’re planning to drop me like a bag of rotten potatoes?
“Well, there won’t be any problems because I came prepared to face the disàppointment. I mean, I can’t force you to be with me, but I won’t let you keep my child under another man any longer” Sylvester spoke for the first time, making Brad nearly have a heart attàck.
“In your dreams! So because I fell for the evïl plot my friend orchestrated and allowed you have access to my body, you have the guts to claim a fruit of my marriage as yours?” Emily asked, feeling like slapping the hêll out of Sylvester.
“Emily Emily Emily!!! Why are you so naïve? Would I call the child mine if I didn’t know that she is mine? Or aside your husband who had been on a steady dose of a medication that makes it impossible for him to impregnate any woman, have you been sleeping with anyone else?” Sylvester asked, looking disgûstedly at Brad.
“What is this clown talking about? What medication is he blabbing about?” Brad asked, looking at his manhōod involuntarily.
“Do not listen to the cråzy rants of a man who’s bitter and clearly running stark raving màd because the trouble he set out with his accomplice to put in my household is failing” Emily said, confident that Sylvester was just bluffing.
“It’s okay Emily. Go on and call me crãzy and whatever else suits your fantasy, but be rest assured that I would do whatever I can to keep my daughter, and the unborn child away from this desõlate place, you can home.
“I’m definitely going to get the law agencies have us get a DNA test for my daughter” Sylvester said before he bounced out of the house, leaving Brad speechless with his level of conviction that the child was his.
He blanked out for quite a while, only regaining his senses when he heard his wife and Audrey fighting.
As much as he remained sad that his wife actually had something to do with another man, giving room for some random man to fïght over the paternity of his child, he wasn’t ready to stand by and watch Audrey fïght his wife in his house.
“Take your miserablê and dêspicable self out of my house now” Brad screamed, throwing Audrey out of his house with a rough pull and push.
That night, neither Emily nor Brad could sleep properly. Emily spent time thinking about how she’d live on, if the child turned out to be Sylvester’s.
Her marriage would be gone for sure, but what was she going to do with her life? She would certainly not be going back to Sylvester, after all that had transpired that night!
Brad was worried about the shame and pains of having to hand over a child he had called his for so long to another, but worried more about what the dude meant by him taking a dose of medications that would make it impossible for him to impregnate anyone.
“Dear Lord, please help me wake up and find this a big nightmare” he prayed as he walked into the hospital, some days later with Sylvester and Emily who was carrying their daughter.
He walked into a private ward by accident, only to find the very people he wished he didn’t have to see; Sophia was lying on the bed, with Jovani, her husband reading her a story, as she seemed to be falling asleep.
Her already very big baby bump was too obvious to miss, and that got Brad standing rooted to the ground, unable to move or say a thing, wondering how on Earth Sophia got pregnant and looked so happy with her life.
