He whispered in her ear, “No one rejects me, Emma. You’re already marked as mine.” With one more kiss on her cheek, he walked out, leaving her with people who looked like they were going to devour her if she took a step.
Emma immediately felt overwhelmed and wished she could just disappear. How had things gone so wrong so quickly? Her dream university was turning into a nightmare, and she had no idea how she was going to survive it.
She didn’t even dare to look at the faces of her classmates before their whispers made her want to disappear.
“I can’t believe she’s living with the Miller boys.”
“She’s a fucking peasant,” another said angrily.
“Hey, you!” a girl said behind her, but Emma didn’t bother to turn.
I need to get the hell out of here, she thought.
“Are you deaf? I’m talking to you,” the same girl said, but Emma didn’t bother turning.
Thank God the teacher immediately entered the class, and all whispers ceased.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Miss Bello, and I’ll be your first-year biology teacher. Please introduce yourselves one by one,” Miss Bello said with a smile.
As everyone started, some even added their family background, making Emma feel so little.
Then it was her turn.
“I’m Emma Harper,” she whispered.
“One of the janitors’ last name is Harper,” a girl in her class said, and everyone laughed.
“She’s the daughter of Aiden Harper,” another said, and the whole class erupted in laughter.
Emma wanted to punch them in the face.
“Silence! Any rude comments in my class, and I’ll make you fail for the rest of the semester,” Miss Bello said, and everyone in the room shut their mouths.
Then she smiled at Emma. “Hey Emma, you aren’t the daughter of the janitor, right?” she asked politely.
“Yes,” Emma said back, and Miss Bello nodded.
“Let’s get to business.” With that, she started teaching, and Emma listened carefully. Biology had always been her favorite subject since high school.
“I’ll see you on Wednesday. Make sure you all do my assignment because that will be your attendance on Wednesday,” Miss Bello said, and the class groaned.
“Yes, Miss Bello,” they said.
Emma didn’t wait as she packed her books in her bag and rushed out. Biology was the only class she had today.
As she walked through the hallway, people kept staring at her with jealousy and saying bad things about her. I’m definitely moving out of that mansion. I can’t afford to lose my scholarship, she thought.
“Hey, you! Chris’s girlfriend!” a voice yelled, and she turned around to see a group of about twenty girls.
They were wearing shirts with Chris’s face on them.
This must be Chris’s crazy fan club. And this was the time to run, and she did.
“Get her!” one yelled, and all twenty of them began to chase her.
She didn’t know where she was going, but she ran and ran until she spotted an open window. Without thinking, she jumped inside, hiding there and waiting for Chris’s stupid fangirls to leave her alone.
Emma immediately pulled out her phone and called Laila. After the first ring, Laila picked up.
“What the fuck am I hearing, Emma?” Laila half-yelled.
“What?!” Emma asked, hoping it hadn’t spread to other departments.
“Have you checked the student portal?” Laila asked.
Emma quickly checked the portal, and her eyes nearly popped out of her head. It was a video of Chris kissing her and declaring she was his girlfriend.
“Fuck!” she yelled.
“Emma, are you there?” Laila asked.
“Yes. That fucking Chris. Laila, I swear I’m not his girlfriend,” Emma yelled angrily.
Everything she hadn’t planned for was falling apart.
“You’ve got some explaining to do. Now start,” Laila demanded.
Emma began to tell Laila everything that had happened since she got there.
“I thought it was a joke when I heard you were living with the Miller boys,” Laila said.
“But that’s great,” she continued, and Emma replied, confused.
“You mean a nightmare, right?”
“No, you can help me get to Leo. I’ve been in love with him for ages,” Laila said.
“Leo, the one that keeps to himself?” Emma asked, trying to confirm.
“Yes.”
“I’m not doing that,” Emma immediately said.
“What the fuck, Emma?” Laila yelled.
“Do it yourself, Laila. I’m not involving myself with the Miller boys,” Emma yelled back, and then she switched off her phone.
She sighed tiredly, knowing she’d have to wait until the evening. Then she started to feel dizzy before closing her eyes to rest for just a minute.

Chris was pacing around the living room.
“Chill, bro. I’m sure she’s coming,” Alex said, and Chris glared at him.
Alex immediately raised his hands in surrender.
Then the door opened, but it wasn’t Emma; it was Leo. Leo didn’t say anything as he walked past them, heading upstairs.
“Hey, mute!” Chris said, glaring at Leo angrily.
Nathan wasn’t around to have his back this time.
But Leo didn’t answer as he kept moving forward.
“Are you deaf? Keep looking down on me. You think you’re better than us?” Chris yelled angrily, while Alex just relaxed in his chair.
Leo didn’t say anything as he walked upstairs, completely ignoring Chris’s existence.
“That bastard,” Chris said angrily, smashing the glass of juice that Alex was drinking.
“Hey, that juice wasn’t the cause of your frustration,” Alex yelled, annoyed that Chris had smashed his fruit juice.
“That bastard thinks he’s better than all of us,” Chris said angrily.
Alex didn’t say anything, just smirked. “Or maybe he is,” he joked, wanting to see Chris get even angrier.
“He isn’t, he never will be, and never was!” Chris yelled.
That was exactly what Alex wanted, always enjoying adding more fuel to Chris’s hatred for Leo.
He enjoyed this so much.
“Then show him his place,” Alex said, barely holding back his laughter.
“Gladly,” Chris muttered as he rushed upstairs towards Leo’s room.
Alex immediately started to laugh hard. “That was fun, but I wish I could watch. Too tired to get up,” he whispered to himself, smiling.
Then the door opened.
Emma walked in, feeling exhausted.
“Where were you?” Alex asked, and Emma just sat on the couch beside him.
“I swear I will kill your brother Chris,” Emma said angrily, and Alex burst out laughing.
“I’m going to sleep,” she said, standing up.
“Wait,” Alex said, and Emma turned around.
Alex stood up and stood in front of Emma.
“There’s something I want to confirm,” Alex said.
“Which is?” Emma asked, confused.
Alex grabbed her and kissed her.
Emma tried to pull away, but he held her tightly, pushing his tongue inside her mouth, devouring her lips before pulling away, smiling wide.
Emma stood in shock.
“Chris was right,” Alex smiled. “Your lips taste like strawberries,” he smirked, walking away, leaving Emma in her shocked state.
