Frank phone rang immediately and he looked at me,
“Who is it? I asked.
“Mama, he replied and picked up.
“Good morning mama, Frank greeted.
“Morning, what happened na you and your sister has not called me, what’s the problem? My mother asked.
“Ahh mama sorry nothing o, I replied putting my mouth through the phone.
“Patricia what are you doing with Frank? No work today? My mother asked.
“Ermmm…. I said scratching my head and looked at Frank.
“Mama today is Saturday na, I asked her to cook for me, Frank came in.
“This early morning? So because I left to the village no one cared to call and check on this old woman? No problem, my mother said and we laughed.
“Chai mama but I called last night na and you didn’t pick up and I was planning to call you, Frank said.
“You didn’t call me anything joor, calling me at past 11 when I am deep asleep is that call? She asked.
“Okay mama we apologize, how is everyone there? I asked and we talked for a while before she dropped the call.
We breathed out so relieved thinking she wanted coming back to town, that will be disastrous except Patrick wakes up.
“Okay let me go cash the money so I can pay for the treatment, Frank said to me.
“Okay be careful, I said and he left.
Frank later returned with the money and the doctors had to do what was needed on Patrick and Frank asked me to go change up and rest while he takes over.
“Huh? No way, I want to know the outcome of the manager stuff, I said.
“Patricia go and rest I’ll call you if something comes up, your eyes are swollen, he said and I touched my face and slowly returned back to the hotel.
My phone began to ring and I woke up and sleepily picked the call,
“Sleepy head there’s goodnews. Head back to the hospital so you won’t miss out, Frank said.
“Really! I shouted and jumped down from the bed.
I got to hospital and saw Frank sitting outside Patrick room,
“Is Patrick awake? I asked.
“Nah still unconscious though they had the blood transfusion on him, Frank replied..
“So what’s the goodnews? I asked sitting beside him.
“They caught the crook. Mhen that man wanted escaping, anyway the guys will be here soon, Frank replied and I was so happy.
20 minutes later two of the guys arrived and I just hugged them happily,
“Welcome welcome welcome, I said making them to sit while they laughed.
“You can breathe well now, The manager was honorably escorted to where he belongs, one of them said.
“How did it happen na? I anxiously asked.
“We actually got to the organization very early in the morning and looked around but nothing seemed different. I left my colleague outside to go in after we were monitoring the premises for like an hour. So I met a lady there and asked about Patrick,
“Oh Patrick doesn’t report to work on Saturdays, she replied.
“Is that so? But has he been coming to work recently? I asked.
“He actually traveled. The manager sent him on an assignment but he’ll be back soon, she replied.
“You say! Frank shouted and the agent smiled.
So I thanked her but she in turned asked if there’s a problem,
“Not at all, its just that his phone is not reachable, but when will the manager be here? I asked.
“Uhmmm that I can’t really tell sorry, she replied.
“Its alright thank you, I said and slowly walked away. So the manager actually convinced the workers that he sent Patrick on an errand so they won’t look for him, the agent said.
“But… Sorry to cut you short. But that’s stupid of him to do, he would have still killed Patrick, what will he then tell the workers if Patrick didn’t come back alive? Frank asked.
“He has a lot to say and cover up if things went the way he planned, don’t forget there’s a Delilah giving him informations about your brother, that’s not a problem to me, the agent replied and I heaved.
“He can say an accident happened and he lost his life bla bla, humans are dangerous. So we kept lurking around for another two hours until a range rover drove in. The manager came out in such a hurry with his suit not properly worn and his face was so red, that was when we alerted the police.
It was not long the cops arrived and about four of us walked in but coincidentally he was just about leaving his office and when he saw us he kept his cool..
“We’re looking for Patrick Bombum sir, I said to him.
“He traveled, any problem? The manager asked with all boldness and I nodded.
“You’re under arrest, one of the cops said and the manager laughed o.
‘What kind of embarrassment is this? Arrest for what exactly? You better stop this joke because I have important people to welcome at the airport, the manager said.
“And who are this important people? I asked.
“It’s none of your business! The manager shouted and his phone began to ring.
He wanted picking it up but one of the police men snatched it from him and picked instead,
“You’re five minutes late, the caller said.
“Yes because he won’t be coming to pick you anymore, the man replied.
“Who is this? The caller asked.
“The police. There’s something you need to know, where are you so I can send my boys to pick you? The man asked and we were told to quickly drive to the airport.
Just when we turned to leave, the manager pulled a gun and attempted to run away, but he didn’t know some police men were relaxing outside the organization and we laughed at him.
“Bringing out a gun was so foolish of him, what was he thinking anyway? I asked them
“You know his eyes will be so red and he won’t be thinking straight anymore,Frank said.
“Exactly and so we got the white men from the airport and we told them everything in details as we drove down to the organization to meet the police waiting.
We met the manager handcuffed and made to sit on the Floor, and that was when the confused workers there heard the main story.
“Hey God! Did they ask of the money? I asked and they smiled.
“Yes they asked of their money and we told them the money is safe but the worker is in critical condition so they took off to the station while we decided to do small FM here since You missed the show, the secret agent said and I felt like jumping.
“The white men will be so serious about this case, if that money could drag the team down then he’s finished, Frank said.
‘You need to hear the Whaattt! Oh shit! They were shouting everywhere, they were so pissed, The guy replied and i laughed.
“Thank God we’re finally free, though we deserve small thing from that money o, I said with a frown because the money was taken away by the police for safe keeping and Frank laughed hitting me.
“They’ll be coming here when they are done over there, I have to go, the guys said.
“Thank you so much. In fact I don’t know what to say but the love you’ve put in to see my brother is back to us, God will bless you, Frank said.
“Amen, alright take care of him, the guys said and shook Frank and left and I breathed out,
“So He has the guts to tell his workers that Patrick traveled? I asked Frank but he just took his phone and called up his boss to tell him the development.
“That’s good to know, so you can go back home now, his boss said.
“Yes sir and thank you very much, for everything, Frank passionately said and I smiled……….
We got back to Patrick room to be with him and the happiness I had faded when he was not improving at all and that evening the white men visited.
They saw the condition of Patrick and spoke with the doctor,
“We are trying our best, let’s just give him time and believes he comes around as long as he’s still breathing, the doctor said and I bowed my head.
“Please do anything and everything to get him better, one of the men said.
“Sure, the doctor said and left the room and they faced us.
“We really apologize for the inconveniences and what your brother had to go through, and we promise that they will face the law, one said.
“Thank you, Frank said.
“And thanks for keeping the money, you’ll surely be compensated and everything that was spent for his bills will be returned to you. We’re really sorry and pray for his recovery soon, they said and we just nodded.
“We appreciate, Frank said and they promised to come back the next day.
Frank phone began to ring and it was our mother calling again,
“Hey we have not called o! Frank shouted and dropped the call and returned it back immediately,
“Why are you not home? My mother asked.
“Home? Which home? Frank asked.
‘How many house do Yuh stay now? I’m at home where are Yuh? She asked.
“What! We shouted.
“What happened? My mother asked.
“Mama you didn’t tell us you’re coming na, I replied.
‘So you’ll do what? Where are you? She kept insisting and we rolled our eyes.
“Mama I am coming, Frank replied and dropped the call and looked at me,
“Mama can’t see him please, I said to him.
“I’ll try my best, Frank said and left.
FRANK POV
I got home and saw my mother murmuring in the kitchen and I welcomed her,
“Frank o, everywhere is smelling, soup has soured and there’s dirty plate. This house is not looking like someone has slept here for the past two days, then where did Patricia come to cook for you? She immediately asked.
“Mama I went to her place, In fact I am coming back from her place because the house was too boring, I replied.
“Good, and where’s Patricia? She asked.
“She’s working, but why didn’t you tell me you’re coming back today? I asked.
“I was not feeling okay, she replied.
“Should I get you drugs? I asked.
“No but am just feeling weird. Anyway let me clean up my kitchen you scattered just because I left to the village. Well done, my mother said and I just laughed leaving her there and wondered how I will hide Patrick situation from her.
The next morning at about 5am Patricia call came on phone and I picked up,
“Brother it’s Patrick, she said crying.
“What happened! I shouted sitting up.
“He began to shake o and could not breathe well, the doctors are with him now and they sent me outside, She replied.
“Shit! I shouted and began to put on my clothes and as I left my room I saw my mother coming out from hers looking at me,
“Where are you going to this early? She asked.
“Mama I’ll be back, I replied but I guess I could not hide my fears.
“What’s the problem? What are you hiding from me? She seriously asked and I rubbed my face and leaned on the wall,
“Maybe that’s why you’re feeling weird and it dragged you home. Truth is Patrick is in the hospital, I replied and her eyes bulged out.
“Patrick? She whispered with tears in her eyes within seconds.
“Patricia just called me now, His condition is bad, I replied and she began to cry and ran in to wear her blouse and tied her hair,
“Take me to my son, she said and I had no choice than to take her with me.
Patricia was surprised to see me walk in with her but my mother just went straight to Patrick and raised his head keeping it on her chest crying.
“Wake up my son, I forgive you, your father forgives you, please forgive him Lord and safe my son, my mother cried out holding Patrick tight not letting him go despite Patricia tearfully tried to calm her down and I ran out of the room to hide my own tears……
