It’s the month of December when the spirit of Christmas blooms. The decorated street lights, snowy roads, couples walking down the street with their matching coats, and even the children playing, feeling excited for Christmas could all be visible in the city of New York.
It was a cool evening, a night before Christmas Eve. A car drove freely on the snowy road into a compound. The moment Daphne turned off her car and took out the keys, the song All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey became edible to her ears and it wasn’t just that, her compound was all decorated with Christmas trees and lights, giving her the most irritable feelings ever.
Daphne angrily stepped down from her car. She matched towards her doorstep.
“Michelle!!” She called out and a middle-aged woman dressed as a housekeeper rushed towards her.
“Who is responsible for all these?” Daphne sounded disgusted, obviously referring to the Christmas decorations everyone.
“Your mom insisted” Michelle gave an immediate reply.
“Does my mom pay your bills?” Daphne raised one of her brows making her look so serious.
Michelle knew she shouldn’t mess up or her job would be done.
“Ma’am I -”
“I asked, do my mother pay your bills?” Daphne fired the same question again and Michelle could only just apologize.
“I’m sorry ma’am, I promise things like this will never happen again. I will take down the whole decorations” Michelle bowed her head as she uttered.
The song All I Want for Christmas never stopped playing and Daphne couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Good and please someone turn off that music!!!” Daphne shouted in frustration and released a loud groan before stepping inside her apartment.

All Daphne could hear while sleeping was the ring on her iPad. She kept groaning, turning to her side but it wouldn’t just stop, and feeling frustrated, she finally sat up.
The caller was her mother just as she guessed. She could already predict what her mother wanted and she was very sure that if she picked, her family would be gathered around dressed in a matching family sweater.
Daphne rolled her eyes and picked up the call. In one, two, three –
“Merry Christmas Eve!!!!” Her mother, father, and little brother JoJo all screamed at the same time.
“Mom for the last time I don’t care about Christmas and PS y’all look horrible in that matching sweater” Daphne uttered dryly.
Her mother Samantha, her father Christopher, and her little brother of eight years Joseph were all dressed in matching sweaters and gloves.
“Come home for Christmas sissy, Mom made cookies and we are planning to go ice fishing later” Joseph gave her a puppy look that no one could reject except for Daphne herself.
“No can’t do it, sissy already has plans,” Daphne replied.
“For once, Daphne, do something more ordinary than partying with your friends or working. Come see what quality Christmas time with family feels like, come eat good food and go fishing” Samantha pleaded with her daughter.
“My no is always a no Mom, why do you always try” Next thing, Daphne snapped and they all knew what came next.
“Daphne don’t you dare-” Christopher wasn’t able to give her his complete warning when the line suddenly went off.
Daphne stood up from bed, went to shower, brushed her teeth, and dressed in her palazzo, scarf, and thick coat before stepping out for breakfast. After eating, Daphne entered her car and waited for her driver to take her to work.
The song All I Want For Christmas continued playing as I drove across the street. Daphne rolled her eyes, seeing the Christmas lights and decorations all over the street till the driver stopped in front of a tall building.
A blinking light formed the name Daphne Empire, showcasing the name of her company. The moment she stepped out of the car, she was welcomed with the paparazzi taking every chance of photos they get from her.
“We love you, Daphne!!”
Some fans waited at a corner so they could scream her name. Daphne smiled at the attention. They weren’t new to her, she just walked with grace inside her company. She had always been a woman of attention after all.

<EVENING: DAPHNE’S ROOM>
Daphne smiled at her reflection in the mirror. She was getting ready to go clubbing with her girlfriend like they always do. She was dressed in a sparkling purple gown with silver boots, long enough to cover her foot. Her hair was tied in an updo, her lips stick was light pink, and a white scarf wrapped around her neck.
Her phone beeped.
Stacy- Where are you? The queue is too much and the bouncers won’t let us in.
Daphne rolled her eyes- coming. She replied and marveled herself once more before stepping out.
Daphne got to the club. She didn’t care if there was a row, she just proudly moved to the front with her girls.
“I heard you wouldn’t let my girls go in, do you want to get sued?” Daphne twitched her lips, looking at the bouncer.
The bouncer sure did look nervous. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously and gave them a free pass but the moment they went in, the other guests had an annoyed look on their faces- like they would tear the bouncer apart.
Oh well, his problem for all Daphne could care.
Inside the club, loud music could be heard. People were dancing crazily, Daphne and her friends weren’t an exception.
“I think I need more beer!!” Daphne shouted due to the noise.
“What?” Stacy shouted along as she couldn’t hear a thing.
“Never mind” Daphne excused herself and moved over to the bartender.
“Can I get another glass of ruby?” She sounded drunk.
“Emma, ruby for the pretty lady please,” the bartender told a young-looking girl. She seemed like Daphne’s age mate but looked younger and skinnier.
Emma was getting too overwhelmed by the work. She poured ruby in glass and brought it over to drunk Daphne who used her hands to push it off. The glass emptied on Daphne.
It felt like time froze and music froze. No one has ever done that to her. Before Emma could apologize…
SLAP
Daphne threw her hands on her face.
“What is wrong with you? Can’t you do your job well? Do you know this outfit can buy this god-damn bar!?” While shouting, Daphne was still drunk.
Emma wanted to say Daphne caused it to herself but she only kept quiet. It would be best if she didn’t say a thing.
“Hey you” Daphne dizzily pointed at the bartender. “I want her gone or this place closes! Gross!” Daphne rubbed her hair, feeling irritated as she stumbled out.
“You heard her Emma, you should leave” the bartender gave Emma a sorry look. There was nothing he could do, he didn’t want to lose his job.
Emma nodded in understanding. She just wanted to work and gather enough money so she could spend Christmas with her family but a rich brat had to ruin it from nowhere.
Emma stepped out of the bar and looked at the sky. “Santa help me” she muttered before looking down and leaving.
A quick moving shooting star suddenly passed without anyone understanding.

Daphne arrives drunk. Her driver escorted her to her front porch and Michelle took over.
‘Young miss never changes. I wish she could wake up tomorrow and be a different person. Understand life isn’t about being rich and Christmas is important especially when spent with a family or lover’ Michelle thought before taking Daphne in.
The shooting star passed again.

Everywhere kept turning light and dark like someone was blinking, struggling to stay awake. Daphne slowly opened her eyes but everywhere looked different. This wasn’t her room.
She slowly posed up. It felt like she was in a cave decorated with some kind of flower that seemed familiar to what she hated the most.
Christmas.
“Where am I?” She looked around feeling confused.
“You’re under the mistletoe”
Turning around, Daphne was blessed in sight with a strange creature she was just seeing for the first time in her life.
“Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!”
