Duncan stared at me for a moment, then placed a kiss on my forehead and nodded.
“Fine, I’ll stay” then he faced doctor Luke. “You can do whatever test you wanna do with me here, right?”
“But.. we.. ” doctor Luke sighed. “Fine” he removed his stethoscope from around his neck. “I’m gonna ask you a few questions, yeah?”
I nodded.
“Yeah”
“Are you feeling pains anywhere? Like around your lower back, or your abdomen?” he asked.
I shook my head. He nodded, and whispered something to the nurse who started writing on her clipboard.
“What about headache?” he asked again.
“No”
“Ok, let’s check your temperature and your baby’s heartbeat”
My ears perked up immediately he made mention of my baby, and I narrowed my eyes at him.
“My baby?” he nodded. “My baby’s fine! He is fine and healthy!” I snapped, and made an attempt to attack the doctor.
But Duncan grabbed my hands and pulled me down.
“Our baby is fine, our baby is fine, ok?” he whispered in my ear.
“But he said something about our baby’s heartbeat”
“I know, I heard him”
“He… ”
“You misunderstood him, he said our baby’s very healthy and strong, right doctor?” he asked the doctor, who quickly cleared his throat and nodded in agreement.
“Yes, yes, that’s exactly what I said”
I glared maliciously at him as I still believe that wasn’t what he said, but nodded anyway, and let him step closer to check my temperature.
“I’ll check your.. temperature now, yeah?” I nodded, and he started his job.
My eyes moved around as the doctor was doing his series of tests on me, Nanny Pamela’s eyes were red and puffy as though she’s been crying, in fact, there were tears running down her cheeks.
My eyes drifted towards Fatima and she’s no better than Nanny Pamela, it’s even right to say she’s worse than nanny Pamela -which made me wonder why they’re both crying.
“Did someone die?” I asked Duncan.
“No” he answered.
“Then why are they crying?” I asked again, nodding towards nanny Pamela and Fatima.
He frowned slightly and stared at me as though my words weren’t making any sense, as if I was supposed to know the reason they’re crying.
“Mr Baldwin” doctor Luke called our attention.
“How’s it?” Duncan asked him.
“Your wife is too weak and won’t be able to go through the natural child delivery”
My eyebrows furrowed as I tried to understand what he meant, even Duncan’s eyebrows furrowed too.
“What are you trying to say, doctor?” Duncan asked.
Doctor Luke glanced at me, and sighed.
“I’m afraid, but having your wife deliver this baby will endanger her life” he paused briefly. “It’s best we put him in an incubator” he said.
Hearing these words just seemed to ignite a fire inside me, I mustered up every bit of strength in me and pushed doctor Luke away from me, and even almost knocked Duncan down in the process.
My eyes searched around frantically, looking for what I don’t know until they landed on the tray of food and fruits on the bedside table, there was a small knife laying on the tray.
I snatched the knife, and held it up against my throat.
Frightened gasps echoed in the room as everyone’s eyes widened in fear at my action, but I ignored them.
“My heartbeat” Duncan called me.
He took a step closer to me, but I pressed the knife on my neck, and it cut through my flesh which made he halt and raised his hands in surrender.
“Fine, I’ll stay right here” he paused. “But just drop the knife…”
“No!” I cut him off.
My eyes looked around, and I don’t know or understand why, but I’m suddenly seeing every single one of them as a threat to me and my son at the moment.
“No one is taking my son from me, or I swear I’ll kill myself” I said.
“Calm down, Mrs Baldwin… ”
“Don’t take a step closer!” I shouted at doctor Luke.
“Fuçking step back!!” Duncan snapped at him and pulled him back, making doctor Luke almost lost his balance.
“Over my dead body, no one is gonna take my son away from me” I pointed the knife at Duncan. “Not even you” I shifted it towards the doctor. “Or you!” then pointed it at nanny Pamela, Fatima and Lucas. “Not any of you either!”
“My heartbeat, calm down and drop the knife” Duncan said, but I threw him a very harsh glare.
“No!” I snapped at him. “My son ain’t gonna stay in no incubator, my womb is the only incubator made for him, and that’s where he’s gonna stay until he’s ready to be born!”
Doctor Luke stepped closer to Duncan and whispered something in his ear, which Duncan nodded at and stared at me.
“Continue planning, but trust me on this, I won’t let your plan work!”
Duncan suddenly jumped at me, he snatched the knife from me and injured his palm in the process, but he didn’t mind his injury as he pulled me into a tight hug.
“Let go of me! I won’t let him take my son! I won’t let him!” I struggle in his arms, but he still didn’t let go.
Doctor Luke grabbed my left arm, and injected something in a vein, which made me weak instantly.
“You can lay her down” he told Duncan.
“What did you do to me?! What did you do to me?! You wanna take my son?! Are you trying to hurt my son?!” I was shouting on top my voice right now.
Soon my vision started blurring, and my eyelids were getting heavier with each passing second.
But before I completely lost consciousness, I heard doctor Luke asked Duncan.
“Mr Baldwin, may I have a word with you outside?”
“Sure” Duncan answered.
I saw him glanced at me briefly trough my blurred vision, and followed doctor Luke outside.

THIRD PERSON’S pov
“What did you inject my wife?” Mr Baldwin asked.
“I sedated her to help her get some rest, because it seemed like she didn’t get enough rest”
Mr Baldwin nodded in understanding.
“Then, why is my wife behaving like a uh..” he trailed off as though he doesn’t know the right word to use.
Doctor Luke sighed.
“Your wife is traumatized, Mr Baldwin”
“Traumatized?”
“Yes, it seemed like she wasn’t expecting something like this would happen to her, and it’s making her lose her mind occasionally” doctor Luke explained.
Mr Baldwin glanced at his unconscious wife, and released a tired sigh.
“What can we do to help her recover?” he asked.
“Uh, we’re still observing her and we’ll do our absolute best to help her recover, but if we can’t get her mind back on track by tomorrow, then… ” he cut himself off.
“Then what?”
Doctor Luke took a few steps away from Mr Baldwin.
“We’ll have to transfer her to a psychiatric hospital”
“What?! A psychiatric hospital?!” Mr Baldwin exclaimed.
