The Next Morning_LA<<
“… according to a reliable source, famous singer; Duncan Baldwin was ruthlessly shot by some unknown gunmen last night on his way coming back from a date with his mysterious wife, he disappeared mysteriously after the attack leaving his wife behind, and his whereabouts has remained unknown at the moment. His wife Tasha Wood…”
Mike tuned the reporter off when the camera rolled over to Tasha Wood who was crying bitterly, he quickly reached for his phone and scrolled through it for a few moments until he came across Rachel’s number and quickly dialed it.
He waited impatiently for her to pick up, but his calls went straight to voicemail, he tried a few more times but still couldn’t get through.
“Are you ok?” his fiancee asked, when she noticed his worried expression.
“I.. this is related to my client” he nodded towards the tv.
“Your client? Rachel?”
“Yeah”
Jacinta turned her gaze back to the tv with a slight frown, but she gasped quietly when she realized something.
“Don’t tell me she’s related to Duncan, maybe her husband?”
Mike nodded.
“He’s her husband”
“The one she wanted to divorce?” she asked again.
“Yes”
Jacinta was awestruck as she couldn’t move her gaze from the tv, she replayed the incident with the reporters and paparazzi outside Rachel’s cafe, she nodded in admiration and her respect for Rachel increased.
“I’m wondering if Rachel knows about this, and how’s she fairing if she already know” Mike said still redialing Rachel’s number.
“Hold on, why is Tasha claiming to be Duncan’s wife then?” Jacinta questioned herself.
Mike on the other hand decided to text Rachel instead.

RACHEL’S pov.
I was walking down a very busy street, but in blinking of an eye I found myself in a cemetery, then my ears pricked up as I heard people wailing miserably and weeping so bitterly.
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion as I looked around but found no one around, then I heard people talking, their voices sounded so near but I couldn’t see them around.
“He was a good man”
“He didn’t deserve to die”
“He didn’t even have a child to carry on his name”
“What’s gonna become of his wife and unborn baby”
Who died?
Judging from the way they were talking about the deceased, I can tell they were so pained. So, I decided to trace the voices and ask who they’re talking about.
I have walked for a long distance, but still haven’t found them.
It seemed as if the farther I walked, the clearer their voices but strangely I can’t reach them.
As if I was in a movie and someone just pressed the forward button, I found myself standing in front of a grave and some people were weeping in front of it. Then I recognized their voices, it’s their voices I’ve been hearing.
I tilted my head and tried to catch the name written on the tombstone, I shivered as cold breeze blew past me, my eyes grew wide, my body started shaking and I lost my balance and staggered back slightly when my eyes zeroed on the name.
Duncan Baldwin, 05/09/1993 – 05/09/2022.
Is this reality or a nightmare? How’s this possible? Didn’t doctor Linda strongly assured me that Duncan’s fine? Why am I seeing his name on a tombstone?
I couldn’t control myself anymore, my legs failed me and I fell on my knees and joined the women in wailing, whipping myself on the ground and begging Duncan to come back to me.
I continued weeping until…
“My heartbeat” I heard someone calling me softly.
At first I didn’t listen clearly and continued crying, but then I reprocessed the two words and stopped crying abruptly.
My heartbeat? Nobody calls me that apart from Duncan. I sprang up and started looking around for him, but then I heard a loud grunt and snapped my eyes open.
“Ow! Careful, my heartbeat, you made me almost bite off my tongue” Duncan grumbled as he rubbed his chin, I guess I just bumped my head against his chin.
Wait, DUNCAN?! He’s not dead, that was just a dream. I reached forward and pinched his right arm, his eyes widened as he hissed quietly and slapped my hand away.
“I’m the one you’re pinching, my heartbeat” he said, not knowing I purposely did it.
“MY HUSBAND IS AWAKE!” I shouted in excitement.
And without thinking about his wounds, I quickly pulled him into a very tight, bone crushing hug and cried on his shoulder.
“You’re awake! You’re awake! You’re awake!” I chanted happily.
“Ouch, ouch, ouch, my shoulder” Duncan groaned.
I quickly let go of him and pulled away. I’m very happy that I couldn’t even express my joy, I mean, I just had a very scary dream about my husband -thankfully it’s just a dream.
“Are you ok? Are you feeling pains anywhere? Are you feeling any form of dizziness? Are you hungry?” I bombarded him with questions.
He stared at my face and burst into laughter.
“I have eaten” he answered, pointing towards some plates.
“Oh”
He laughed again.
“I’m fine”
“What about your drugs? Have you taken them?”
“Yes, Mrs Baldwin”
I blushed when he called me Mrs Baldwin, he reached for my hand and planted a kiss on my knuckles.
“Feed me some fruits” he said.
“Hm” I hummed and reached for a plate of sliced fruits on the bedside table, and started feeding him.
“Mm mm, so sweet” he closed his eyes to prove his words.
Fatima walked in at that moment, she cleared her throat to notify us of her presence and gave me a smile that say ‘i told you he’d be fine’ before she started stating her business.
“Mr Baldwin, the press has known about your accident” Fatima reported to Duncan.
The press know? Isn’t that gonna cause Duncan more troubles?
I was panicking, but looking at Duncan’s calm demeanour made me wonder if being a Mafia lord is now a legal thing in the country.
“They didn’t find anything after their investigation, so they concluded it’s a random gun men attack and here’s the video of the interview they had with Tasha Wood” she said and handed an iPad to him.
Why would they interview Tasha Wood?
“.. here’s the interview we had with Mrs Baldwin, popularly known by her stage name, Tasha Wood”
I looked up at Duncan and gave him a ‘really?’ look, he shook his head in denial and though I believe him, but I couldn’t help the fat, ugly man sitting on my chest (jealousy). I dumped the fruits on his laps and sprang up.
“W-what’s wrong?” he asked in a small stutter.
“I just realized I’m the mistress!” I snapped at him and walked out of the room, pretending to be angry.
But I heard him scolding Fatima and telling her never to show him such videos when I’m around, before I was out of hearing.
