Elvis’ POV

The doctor discharged me from the hospital without asking for the medical bills.

I was surprised at his empathy. It was when I was about to go that he called me to his office and told me, that my father had paid the bills. I was left flabbergasted.

“Sir, how did my father know that I was unconscious?”, I inquired.

“I told him about everything Elvis. And he decided to fund your bills himself”, he said leaving no stone unturned.

From that moment I had premonitions that my father will definitely be mad at me.

We left the hospital and to Maria’s apartment. She was very happy and excited. I didn’t know what triggered the sudden happiness in her.

“Ma’am, It seems you are very happy. What seems to be the secret behind your happiness?”, I asked with a smirk.

“I’m happy that my cabby and chef is back. And I can’t wait to have a delicious dinner of avocado toast”, she said giggling.

Unknowingly, I unleashed a laughter when I heard her mentioning avocado toast.

She immediately asked, “Elvis why are you laughing at me?.

“Ma’am I’m actually very surprised at your response”, I said.

“Why are you surprised, or have I omitted lies?”, she responded doubtfully.

“Yes, you once told me that your favourite is hot dog, but I’m definitely surprised that now you are saying is avocado toast”, I said revealing the truth.

“Of course, that was before not now. From the day I tasted avocado toast, I sworn it will be my favorite delicacy”, she exaggerated.

I couldn’t mind laughing and went into my room to get freshened up.

After transforming into a new wear, I told her I was leaving to see my mom and she insisted on accompanying me to see her. I was shocked.

It was another problem to me, so I asked her reasons.

She told me, she wanna appreciate my mom for producing such personality of mine.

I insisted with her not coming along with me, promising to take her to see my mom next time I will be going.

Probably I was lying about my welfare. I was going to see my parents, most especially my father. For I knew he was gonna be crazy as regards to what happened to me.

When I arrived home, my dad was watching the new trending movie of BEST FRIEND IN THE WORLD, on Netflix, a popular student movie from the Nollywood.

While my mom was spending her time with my sister Juliana who had just returned from college.

“Hi dad, good evening”, I said patting him on the back passionately.

“Hi son, welcome back. How are you doing?”, My father replied.

I was about going upstairs to see my mom and sister, but my father interceded, asking me to sit down that he wants to talk to me.

I sat down, then he asked me to get him two glasses of wine. I did and he began unleashing the whole epic.

“I heard that Maria striked you with a metal, which later led to your unconsciousness”, my father inquired.

“Yes Dad, that was what led to my unconsciousness”, I said, my mom and sister began coming downstairs.

My mom was very angry seeing the bandage around my head.

“Elvis, how many times have I warned you to stay away from that girl. She is not worth to be a woman you spend the rest of your life with. She might even kill you”, my mom yelled angrily.

“Mom, I know how you feel about what am going through, but I promise you that Maria would be my wife”, I uttered gently calming her temper.

“Elvis, it seems you are out of your mind. Would you marry her in the grave and be looking after your father’s legacy?”, my mom said again.

“Look mom, take it lightly with him, all will be fine. No good relationship prevails without overcoming the storms and hardship”, Juliana, my sister interfered.

“No problem I have heard you both. I made your favorite delicacy, plantain chips and fried chicken”, my mom said as we all moved upstairs.

The meal was so sumptuous and delicious. It was after the meals that my sister sitted me and fed me with interesting gists about the college.

Maria’s Pov

I was expecting Elvis to return on time, but he didn’t show up as I expected.

I waited outside the balcony to see If he would return, yet to no avail was he coming.

The house seemed to be silent as the grave yard as I could no longer stay. I began feeling like someone was gonna appear from no where and get hold of me.

I ran outside and sat on a sofa, after few minutes of sitting all alone, I saw him coming.

“Elvis what kept you up until this time? I was definitely worried about you. Besides I couldn’t stay all alone in the house. I was being dreaded that something might eat me up”, I verbalized my fears.

He was just laughing at me, leaving me surprised as to why the laugh.

“Look Elvis, this is serious, I am not kidding. I really needed your company, but you weren’t there. I had no option than to come and sit outside”, I gushed.

“I’m definitely sorry ma’am. My mom didn’t allow me leave the house early”, he said apologizing.

“It’s alright, I have heard you. Now go in there and make me my favorite delicacy. I’m very hungry”, I said.

He couldn’t even wait for me to end the speech, Elvis was already in the kitchen.

After preparing the food, he brought it to the dining table and served me the food and was about leaving.

“Elvis come and dine with me”, I said.

“No ma’am, I am not hungry at all”, he replied.

“I’m not eating this food unless you come and eat with me. I’m tired of eating alone”, I insisted.

“Ma’am, but you are my boss and is not pertinent for me to do so. I just wanna give you that respect”, Elvis said.

“Am not naive, but I want you to do so”, I said this time around as he come over and joined me.

I really enjoyed the meal.
