“And if that happens, if he begins to pressure her into returning to him, you and I know that Farida will be torn between pleasing her mother, and pleasing herself.

“And even if she chooses to try to stay with Joe, she won’t be having the pleasant stay she’s having that is giving them both, the time to plot and plan” Jackie suggested.
“You are right my dear. I know that boy will soon be a bone in their neck because on that day that they descended on me, like I told you Nkem, he was talking about not wanting his first child growing under another man’s name.
“And that shãmeless Mandy was screà ming at him for daring to mention the child as his, when she had already made concrete arrangements with him.
“Something tells me the boy isn’t pleased with the way Mandy is treating him, and he’s sooner or later going to revôlt” mama said.
“Then, we need to make our move now. It’s time we made him see the reasons to revölt.
“Nkem, you were with them when all the plans were made, and you all agreed on the terms of this arrangement.
“You are in a very good position to let this young man see how far he had been made to derail from the original plans, and how he is losing everything in the end” Jackie suggested.
“It’s a good idea Jackie, but I think it’s best to allow them do their own things.
“I feel that inciting Max against them, is playing in their own terms, and tilting towards their own kind of lifestyle.
“It’s a good thing that Joe and I are now back together. I may have to endure, having to stay low whenever he speaks with Farida, hide behind the shadows like the other woman in their marriage, but it will be only for a while.
“I’ll just have to ensure that Joe understands what’s at stake, and is ready to work with me, waiting for them to fall in their own pit, unaided” Nkem said.
Mama was almost crying as she listened to her daughter in-law. She kept recalling how terribly she had treated Nkem because of her childlessness, something that she hadn’t chosen for herself!
And when she looked at Nkem’s way of handling matters, she couldn’t help but regret acting the way she did with her back then.

“Yes Nkem, I also believe that your desire to still have me around, to have me understand things that I hitherto didn’t know, is why God made you appear when you did, and why He chose to spare my life.
“I know that if I keep apologizing everyday of my life, it won’t still be enough to atone for my sins, but I hope that somehow, you’d forgive me for the sake of the indescribable love you have for my son” mama said, getting quite emotional.
“Ah mama, I’ve told you before! There’s no grudge in this heart of mine against you.
“I know you did things in the extreme, but you wanted what all mothers would want; a grandchild from their only son! Jackie made sure I saw things in the right person time!
“And mama, I believe God allows certain things to happen for some reasons. Yes, He is the all wise God.
“If these things hadn’t happened, how would I have known for real, who Mandy is to me?
“And if I didn’t face all that I faced, I wouldn’t have seen how valuable and how extra loving Jackie is to me.
“Mama, no matter how much I have been through in the hands of Mandy and her daughter now, it can’t be compared to what they could have been capable of doing to me, behind the shadows.
“What if I got blessed with a wolf in sheep’s clothing still around me, and she found a way to hurt this child, when I wasn’t looking?
“Do you think my life would have remained the same if she succeeded in hurting this special miracle God has given me because I didn’t know she’s nothing but an unfriendly friend?
“In everything Mama, I give God thanks, and in this case, I have so many reasons to thank God” Nkem said, holding Mama’s hand as he spoke.
Jackie wiped a tear from her eye as she watched Nkem and her mother in-law demonstrate their love and forgiveness.
“You know Nkem, I never really got to ask about Martha. What happened with her?” Jackie asked.
Mama let out a throaty laughter before she responded.
“Martha made me know the stuff she was made of, just a few days after Nkem left the house.
“She told me she was going to leave the house because Farida and Joe had given her an ultimatum to vacate the premises, and when I tried to convince her to stay, she laughed me to scorn.
“Mama, you must really think that there’s something special about this son of yours, for me to have to remain here, wasting away, while he switches from one woman to another, when neither of these women is me!
“Farida is pregnant for him, and has managed to grab his attention away from Nkem the special woman.
“Think about it, if she could chase Nkem away, and she had said she doesn’t want me in the house, what’s the aim of hanging around like a spare part when Joe has offered me something good to help me start my life elsewhere?
“Yes Mama, Joe asked me to choose between a million Naira, and staying around without getting any form of attention, and mama, as you are seeing me now, I have that one million Naira, sitting in my account’ she told me” mama said
Mama told them that when tried to express her disappointment, Martha was quick to let her know that she was only there for the money after all, and since she could get the little she could, she was better off going her way.
Amarachi and Ben entered the house while the three women were still talking, and after the usual exchange of pleasantries, Amarachi was in a hurry to tell them what they had found out.
“Mandy is planning to kïll someone tomorrow. She is planning to kïll…” Amarachi was still saying when they heard a police siren blast so loudly, it appeared to be approaching the house
