    🤷 Solo Mum Part Five:

“If you had listened to me from the beginning all these wouldn’t be happening” Fun said. I sat down as she carried her wailing toddler.

“I talked to them but they just found more reasons to insult me. I’m beginning to think that they love Christopher more than me” I was tired and exhausted.

“They love Christopher because he is their father. In my opinion Christopher isn’t a bad man, he was just going through a lot at that time in his life and he couldn’t cope”

“What would you have me do?” I asked, slouching against my seat.

“First of all remove the hate, whatever Christopher must have done to you forgive him. If you want your children to respect you, you should respect the person they are close to and while you are busy respecting him do well to ask for some advice”

That was what Fun said and I knew what to do. I called Christopher and asked if we could talk. He offered me to his home but I didn’t want to go that kind of environment, you couldn’t measure my shock when he said he has moved to the island. He gave me the address and I made some time to visit him.

Christopher’s house wasn’t as big as mine but it was more than decent for a single man. I asked him what he was doing and found out he was now a managing director of an advertisement firm. I was shocked and couldn’t stop wondering if I was really his hindrance to success.

I nagged him a lot but it was not in any way to ridicule him but to strengthen him but I was wrong, I was just weighing the poor man down.

We talked and for my sake he didn’t taunt me like I expected him to. At Lea I know that is what I would have done.

“After the divorce, I didn’t have access to the children for a long time but when I did I was heart broken” he told me.

“I heard that you had moved on nicely and you were offered a job with a fat salary and the nature of the said job took you away from home but I didn’t see the impact it would have on the children until I saw Karen at a club, she was happy and ashamed to see me which was okay for me. I invited her over to my house and just like that the rest followed. Apart from the fact they are a bit stubborn they are still children forced to live like adults.

“I’m not saying this to ridicule you because I can understand how tough it must have been for you but if you are willing to change your work pattern or create more time for time it will go a long way”

I took these advice to heart and it made me think about what kind of person I was. I blamed my kids for being deliquency but I am guilty as they were.

I didn’t give up my job, hell no, I loved my job but I had spoken to my boss about my situation and bless his soul he worked out something that might work for me.

The relationship with my children wasn’t that great but with time we could talk to each other without shouting.

Now they are on their way to university and I was still afraid that distance will break the little relationship we’ve built.

    THE END…!!!

    🤷 Solo Mum Part Four:

I and my children have been staring at each other for over five minutes. I called for a meeting and I found myself at loss.

It wasn’t that I didn’t know what to say but I had so much to say and I didn’t know how to start. The thought that I didn’t know how to start a conversation with my children was alarming. I spoke at conferences and board meetings but I couldn’t talked to seventeen year olds.

“Are we here to stare at each other” Kevin broke the silence. I blessed him for that.

“Because I want us to talk, to communicate” Fun said I should speak in a calm voice. I hoped my voice was calm enough.

“Then why are you looking at us as if you want to murder us” Katlyn said.

“I cannot murder my children. I…. I love you all” I struggled to say. They all hissed and sank back into their seats. I continued.

“I want know your problems and why you all decide to behave this way. No mother would be happy if her children behaved the way you guys do. It’s not fair to me after all I given you-”

“—it always comes down to this. You think you’ve given us everything but what have you really given us?” Kevin asked.

” What have you really given to me? What have any of you given to me. You don’t respect me, you don’t obey me. You haven’t given me anything in return” I shout at them.

“I just knew this meeting wouldn’t work out. Just another shouting episode” Karen mumbled but I ignored her.

I took a deep breath to assemble all my thoughts and feelings in one place.

“I want you all to change. This isn’t the best life at all. You are only destroying yourselves”

“If you want us to change, then you have to change” Katlyn said, her voice was calm but for some reason it agitated me.

“What I’m I changing for?” My voice was defensive, that was not how I wanted to sound but that was how I felt.

“Come home more, call us more, treat us like we are your children and not some employee at your company” Kevin listed out.

“I’ll try to do all that”

    “You’ll try?” Katlyn cried.

“What would you have me do” I said matching the frustration on her face.

“I’m done with this meeting. It’s obvious you don’t want to change” Karen stood.

“Hey sit down I’m not yet done” I tolf her…no I commanded her. She didn’t sit but at least she didn’t walk away.

“Dad is better than you in many ways” Katlyn whispered but I heard.

It felt like an insult, because it was an insult, a huge one.

“How is Christopher better than me. Can he give you this life you are living” All what I do for this children and this is how they repay me.

“For starters Dad doesn’t always think about money like the way you do”

“That is why he is poor, that is why he couldn’t provide for us. He is a drunk and abuser” I shout. Tears were clouding my sight but I wouldn’t dare let them escape.

“Dad is a drunk because you made him that way. You were always nagging about how little he brought and not even acknowledging his efforts and stop saying he is an abuser. He only hit you one time because you slapped him. You initiated the fight and turned yourself into the victim. He is so much more better without you around.” Kevin said in one angry breath.

“He is a bad influence. He encouraged Kaylyn to drink like himself what kind of father does that”

My voice was shaky and not like myself. I didn’t like it. I didn’t like how weak my voice sounded or the accusations leveled against me.

“He wasn’t encouraging me to drink, he was helping me to stop taking drugs” Katlyn confessed.

I don’t know what hit me, but it was mighty and heavy. She was taking drugs?

“And when you saw me vomiting it was because I hadn’t taken drugs for a week and I might now because you gave the only person that could help me a restriction order. Dad was helping me and all you do is ruin things and take us to scam prophets” Katlyn cried, she wasn’t ashamed to let her tears flow and just like that she was storming the stairs to her room.

“If it will interest you. Yahoo and programming are different things and if it will interest you more, Dad scrapped up his savings for that class you disrupted.” Kevin said and left.

Karen who had nothing to say and had been itching to leave since the meeting started, she left mumbling something incoherent under her breath.

    🤷 Solo Mum Part Three:

“I’m thinking it’s spiritual. Somebody wants to use your children to bring you down. Do you have any wicked aunty or uncle in your family?” Feyi asked.

“Bimbo don’t listen to her. It’s not everything that is spiritual, maybe they want something and you are too harsh” Fun opened her smelling mouth to say that rubbish.

“What would they possibly want that I haven’t provided. They attend the best school and my former plan was for them to go abroad for University but I cannot trust them to behave civil. They have clothes, enough food. I stay away from home very often to provide all these, what else do they want?”

“They want attention. I can’t leave my children alone without communicating for a day”

Fun was right here. I rarely communicated with my children when I traveled for business trips but that was because I was too tired to.

“It’s easy for you to say because your are not a single mother like us, do you think it’s easy?” Feyi defended and turned to me.

” I know a place where you can take your children to for prayers. Any spell that they must have casted on them will go back to sender”

The next week Feyi took my very annoyed children and I to a prophet who told me to buy a goat and spiritual items that would be used to wash away the spell on my children into the river, which I did.

They didn’t change at all, in fact they became worse and I had to hire bouncers as gatemen to keep them from leaving the house. I stopped giving them money and I was seconds away from installing cameras in their room but I was far too busy with work to have time for that.

Feyi didn’t stop there. She took us from church to church from church to church and my pocket screamed with each visit.

I was tired and exhausted. I’ve done everything I’ve been asked to do but no positive results.

My phone rang just as I entered my room to rest. I picked without checking the caller ID.

    “Bimbo” Christopher said calmly.

“Why are you calling me by this time?”

“It’s about our children. They called me and told me that you are taking them to places for deliverances. They are not possessed”

“Where I take them is none of your business. I am doing what is right for them and for reporting me to you they would be punished”

“Bimbo you are going about this the wrong way.”

I couldn’t imagine the irony. Christopher of all people is telling me I am taking of my children the wrong way when he is the one influencing them.

“If you really want to do some good, stay away from the children and never call me again”

    I hang up.

    🤷 Solo Mum Part TWO:

After the divorce, Christopher became worse and that resulted to him living in this shady and unkept area. I just hope this would be the last time I’ll come here.

I’ve been knocking on the door for over a minute but no response. I was about to knock again when the door opened. A slutty looking girl with multiple piercings and tattoos was looking down on me like a piece of dirt.

The thought of my daughter staying in company with this kind of woman made me more afraid than angry.

    “Who you be” She said.

“I’m here for my daughter. Kathryn” The slut started to eye but I shoved her aside and went inside. The place smelled and reeked of vomit. Kathryn was somewhere on the floor bent over a bucket vomiting and Christopher was just hold her.

What in hell was happening here.

“What is happening to my daughter?” I boom. They both looked up at me.

    “Bimbo”

“Don’t call my name. What did you do to my daughter”

    “Mom he was just helping—”

“–you better be quiet because you are in so much trouble for leaving the house.” I dragged her up by the arm.

“Bimbo what is wrong with you?” He is asking me what is wrong with me?

“Stay away from my children” I warn him.

“How can I stay away from my children. You have no right do that” He shouted.

“I have custody of them. I have every right to tell you to stay away from them.” I shout back at him. Those days where I depended on him for survival were over.

He looked silently at me with his jaw twitching. I literally dragged Kathryn all the way to the car because she was reluctant to leave.

Kathryn is more strong headed than Karen so I had to slap her more than thrice to know where Kevin could possibly be.

I can’t believe it. I’ve just been in Nigeria for two hours and I’m already shepherding children.

I went to the place Kevin was and I found him in a house with a group of boys who were busy on their laptops. I didn’t even talk much as I dragged him to the car and it wasn’t easy because he was a bit stronger than I am, the fact that he was also taller didn’t help.

Soon I was driving home with my two lost sheep. They sulked into the house, reminding me that they hated me. I wanted to shout at them but it was of no use.

I never planned to have three children. I just wanted one child and God punished me by giving me three devil’s from the pit of hell.

I could control all my staffs but I can’t even talk to my own children without it ending in a string of insults.

I went to my room to freshen up and sleep because I was beyond exhausted.

My mind flashed images of my daughter having sex, the other one was vomiting because she must have drank too much alcohol and my son a future Yahoo boy.

I feared of what they would become if they should start going to university which wasn’t far anymore as they had just concluded their NECO exams.

    I’m a failure. I’ve failed as a mother.

I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, making a mental note to get a restriction order for Christopher. I don’t care if he is their father. He is a bad influence.

    🤷 Solo Mum Part One:

The house was quiet and I instantly knew something was up.

“Madam welcome” Alice, the maid came and helped me with my travelling bag. “How was the flight ma?”

“It was splendid. Take this bag” I gave her a small bag containing files from my just concluded contract. “Keep this in the library. Where are my children?”

“They left the house on Saturday but only Karen came back. They didn’t tell me where they went to, when I tried to make them stay home they beat me. I almost died”

I clenched my fist to stop myself from giving her a sounding slap. She had just one job aside keeping the house and she couldn’t even do it.

I massaged my temple with my fingers to calm my nerves. I have three teenagers, two girl and a boy, all the same age because I unfortunate enough to give birth to three children at once.

I couldn’t blame Alice anymore for being unable to keep them leaving the house. They became very rebellious after I divorced their father, they were so uncomfortable to the point I as their mother couldn’t even stand them.

Does it make me a bad mother if I say my own children irritate me. I’ve tried all I can as a mother to provide for them. I rarely stay in the house because I’m busy entering meetings upon meetings just to make them comfortable but yet they decide to be as useless as their useless father.

“Where is Karen?” I asked after I felt the anger in me subside.

“She is in her room. Do you want to eat anything?”

“Just make tea and leave it in the library. I’ll have it there”

I climbed the stairs leading to Karen’s room. The door was opened a bit and from there I could see close to nothing because the blue light was on.

I slid inside through the small gap to avoid announcing my presence.

The first thing that hit me was the smell. The room smelled like a mix of cheap perfume and shit and I was hearing moans?

I flip the switch and all the anger I laboured to get rid of came like a raging storm and I had no control. Two boys sleeping with my daughter. In my house!

“Jesus, can’t you knock a fu cking door! Is it so hard” Karen yelled as she tried to cover herself with the duvet. The boys were running everywhere trying to gather their clothes.

I grabbed the bottle of lotion on the dressing table and threw it at one of the boys.

“Get out of my house. Get out now before I call the police” I shouted. I slapped the one closet to me who was running to the door.

“Mum stop it, you are embarrassing me. Are you not supposed to be here next week” She said angrily but her anger was nothing compared to mine.

“If you say one more word I’ll shred you to pieces. Where is your sister and brother?”

“I don’t know and you should leave my room now”

I grabbed her by the neck.

” I didn’t learn martial arts for nothing. If you don’t want to end up in the hospital better start telling me where your siblings are.”

I’m guessing she remembered how I beat her father the last time he tried to abuse me because she started talking immediately.

“Kathryn went to Dad’s house, I don’t know where Kevin went to after the party”

    Party?

“you left this house to go to a party and you brought two idiot bastards into my house and I’ll punish you for it just wait” I gave her the sounding slap I’ve been aching to give since I got back and pushed her aside.

I removed the key from the keyhole and locked her in the room before she could realize what happened.

Now I had to find the rest of my unfortunate children and hopefully drill sense into their head.
