Before George disappeared, we were having a tough time in our relationship. Finding out he had been married before really hurt me, and we were struggling to get past it. Then, one day, the phone rang in our dimly lit apartment. I was nervous to answer, not recognizing the number. “Hello?” I said cautiously.

“Mina, it’s me,” George said on the other end. I couldn’t believe it was him.

“George? Is it really you?” I asked, tears welling up.

“Yes, Mina. I’m safe. I managed to escape,” he replied urgently.

I felt a rush of relief as George apologized for his mistakes and explained how he had escaped from Sandrine’s thugs. He had discovered that Sandrine killed our kids and in order to make her face justice, he abducted him. Tears streamed down my face realizing how betrayed we had been.

“I’m so sorry, George. I should have never started that business.” I said, feeling guilty.

“No, Mina. It’s not your fault. Sandrine was clever and fooled both of us,” he reassured me.

After our emotional talk, George came home. We hugged each other tightly, grateful to be together again. But there was still more to do. George decided to come back to our country to gather evidence against Sandrine and make sure she was punished.

For the next few months, George stayed with his mom and myself but never let anyone know he was alive. We grieved our loss together and started to heal.

When George returned, he was determined to bring Sandrine to justice. With the evidence he had collected, the police arrested Sandrine for killing our children and trying to kill George.

At Sandrine’s trial, everyone learned the awful things she had done. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Justice was finally done, but the pain stayed with us.

Afterwards, George and I grew closer again. We leaned on each other and our faith. George asked me to marry him again, and we renewed our commitment to each other.

We decided to start fresh in a new country together. It was a chance to leave our painful memories behind and look forward to a better future.

Now, as I watch our sons play in the yard of our new home, I feel thankful. Despite everything we went through, our love conquered all.

    THE END…!!!

👩‍❤️‍👨 Mina The Side Chick: ❣️

It’s been seven months since my husband mysteriously jumped off the bridge and disappeared. My stomach had grown large again, with just a few more days to go.

Every day, I held my stomach close, promising my baby a future free from misfortune and bad influences like Sandrine, thugs, and other negative elements. I vowed to raise my child in the ways of the Lord.

I sat in the living room with my mother-in-law, watching the movie “Nimbe.” Nimbe’s speech, where he confronted his parents for failing him, stirred guilt within me. I couldn’t help but think of how I had failed my own children, leading to their untimely deaths. I blamed myself for not keeping a closer watch on them and allowing distractions to intervene.

Lost in these thoughts, I suddenly gasped as warm fluid soaked through my clothes, signaling that my water had broken. Excitement and anxiety mixed as contractions intensified. I focused on my breathing, preparing for the imminent birth. Clutching my belly, I felt each tightening with urgency, knowing my body was working to bring new life into the world.

“Mama!!!” I cried out. “It’s time. It’s finally here.”

“Okay, calm down, keep breathing!! I’ll call Stephan to drive us. You know I can’t drive,” she reassured me, grabbing her phone and hurrying upstairs to prepare.

“Are you okay? Breathe in and out. Stephan is on his way,” she continued as she packed my things and readied the car.

Moments later, Stephan arrived. He rushed to assist me as the cramps intensified. I could barely move my legs from the pain. Stephan lifted me gently and carried me to the car. My mother-in-law emerged from the house with a box and a few items, locking the door before joining us in the car.

Stephan drove swiftly, and within minutes, we reached the hospital. He lifted me again and hurried me inside, where a compassionate security guard provided a wheelchair to take me to the ward.

Entering the labor room for the second time, I knew it would be challenging but was prepared for the struggle. Nurses and doctors focused their attention on me, placing me on a bed as labor began.

After 45 minutes of intense effort, the first baby was born, followed shortly by another. Exhausted after the last birth, I struggled to remember what happened next.

Throughout my pregnancy, I had chosen not to undergo an ultrasound to determine the babies’ genders. It felt like a miracle and blessing that I would cherish forever.

Cleaned up and settled in a room with my two sons, I was joined by my mother-in-law, who entered tearfully.

“Thank you, Lord, for these wonderful blessings,” she praised, overcome with joy.

“Oh Mama, I’m so grateful God has given me a second chance to be a mother.”

“And you will be a wonderful one, my darling. You are strong, and I thank God my son had you by his side,” she said, holding my hand gently.

    “Look how precious they are!”

“Indeed, God has blessed you, my child. Unlike some people whom karma has caught up with,” she added bitterly.

“Mama, who are you referring to?” I asked.

“Your co-wife’s baby passed away. While you were in labor, she was rushed to the hospital due to an incident this afternoon.”

“Dear Lord! Mama, are you saying that beautiful child is gone?”

“Yes, my daughter. Perhaps God took her back because Sandrine wasn’t capable of being a mother. What kind of mother leaves a child alone in the house, with boiling water and an electric kettle nearby? She was electrocuted, and the hot water spilled on her,” she explained sadly.

“And who the hell Do you think you are to come into my house and say such?” I asked, making her to return

“ As the wife of Mr George. And the last time I remember you’re just side chick. Now that he’s gone, I am his only legal wife and I owned everything he had including this house.”

“ I have always said that you are a demon brought from the pit of hell?” Mama Ellen said
    “Excuse me?”

“You heard right. What kind woman behaves the way you do ?. how can you be so mean to this girl? I hope you know that she’s your fellow woman.” Mama Ellen continued

“Who you think you are to lecture me?” Sandrine demanded

“ I am George’s mum who told you that you are entitled to any of My son’s properties?”

“ Hahahaha mama you don’t even know me yet. I al not that small Sandrine you used to Talk trash to in the past. This Sandrine is different. So Respect yourself and stay away from my business.” She said and finally left the wake. Everything went back to how it was before the devil interrupted

The very next day, a pastor came and prayed for my little babies before they were put six feet. We also employ the pastor to pray for my husband’s spirit

The lawyer sent an invite for us to attend reading of George’s will at his father’s compound

The day came to hear George’s will at Mama Ellen’s old house, where he grew up. Sandrine and I were both invited, and we both said we would come.

I got to Mama Ellen’s old house early. There were pictures of Mr. George everywhere, from when he was a boy to when he was grown up. His smile in those pictures didn’t match the sad feeling in the house.

Mama Ellen hugged me tight when I walked in. She had been crying. “I’m glad you came, Mina,” she said quietly.

Sandrine walked in like a storm about to start. She didn’t say hi or look at anyone and sat down far from us.

The lawyer came with his papers and looked very serious. He started reading the will.

Sandrine’s face turned red with shock.

” To Mina, My lovely wife” he continued, “I leave my house in the country and all of my companies to you.”

I couldn’t believe it. The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Sandrine looked like she was going to explode with anger.

“To my mother,” the lawyer read on, “I leave this childhood home and money to take care of her forever.”

Mama Ellen cried softly into her handkerchief.

“And for my children,” the lawyer finished, “I have left money for their school and everything they need. And by this I mean My little daughter and my unborn baby with Mina”

That was a big surprise and made things more difficult. How did he find out I was pregnant because I never told him about it

Sandrine stood up fast, making her chair make a loud noise. “This can’t be true!” she yelled. “I’ll fight this!”

Mama Ellen stood up too, her voice calm but strong. “You have no right,” she said. “George knew what he was doing.”

They argued a lot after that, bringing up old problems and being very mad. But Mr. George’s last wishes were clear.

It took us just about 30 minutes to locate Mama Ellen. Stephan and I came out of the car and walked to where she was standing. The bridge had now been surrounded by onlookers, some hissing and others comforting Mama Ellen. The moment she saw us, she burst out crying again.

“What happened, Mama? How did this happen?” I asked, struggling to comfort her.

In as much as I am supposed to care less about what happens to my husband, I still would never wish death on him. He is still the father of my children and the one on the way. Besides, his mum has been my pillar since my calamities started. She doesn’t deserve what’s happening to her, neither does my husband.

While I was comforting Mama Ellen, there were two women behind us gossiping. They were actually in a squabble with each other as to whether my husband committed suicide or not.

“C’mon, this man didn’t commit suicide,” the first lady stated with so much confidence.

“How exactly are you sure, Mirabel? A man that was said to have jumped into the river?” the second questioned.

“According to what I heard, it was said that he was being chased by a group of men. When he reached the bridge, he didn’t even think twice; he jumped,” the first answered.

“Hmm!! That’s not what I heard. What I was told was that he committed suicide because he was responsible for the death of his two children.”

“Jesus!!! How could he do such a thing? That’s not even true. Because the man I heard from was a witness to this. He saw the people following this man and he couldn’t say anything because he was scared of being killed in the process.”

“Are you sure about what you’re saying?”

    “Yes, Cora! Very certain.”

“But if at all he witnessed this, why didn’t he go to the police officers and report it?”

“I don’t know, but I think he’s trying to exempt himself from being killed.”

“Shhh!! A policeman’s coming our way. I don’t want to be counted amongst,” she cautioned, as they hurriedly left the place.

We were still standing by the big bridge, hoping my husband’s body would be found for us to identify it, but just like that, our day ended. We were asked to go home and that we would be informed if they finally saw his body.

Days became weeks and weeks turned to months, still no body. The boatmen had been patrolling the river for a very long time but they finally gave up.

After all that, I decided I was going to bury my children. I wanted their souls to go home in peace. I told my mother-in-law, who happened to be happy with the decision. We had a wake at home, where the bodies of my two babies would be displayed for friends and well-wishers to say their final goodbyes.

In as much as I had accepted their loss and prepared to welcome the new one, I thought it would be easier, but it still ached my heart. Most especially because I hadn’t gotten vengeance for their death.

The wake program was to start at 7:00 pm. I had my friend Stephan organize the occasion for me. We only made a little food that evening and we were hoping people would just come and then leave. But the entire neighborhood came out. Some of my neighbors even offered to get food from their houses and cook. To them, Nuella and Emma were their children too. There were times Nuella and Emma would visit my neighbors, playing with their children. Their kids did the same thing.

In my region, when someone dies, keeping a wake for them is very important. It usually takes place from evening, sometimes like 8 pm, till morning.

Everyone dances in circles, beating drums, and others hold the picture of the deceased, dancing. We also shared the little we had. Some go as far as burning large heaps of wood while they dance surrounding it. I don’t know why they do that, but it felt like the right thing to do.

The night was going on well, people dancing and playing drums outside. I was inside the house with my mother-in-law, when suddenly, music stopped, and the voices stopped. I walked out only to see Sandrine, holding the microphone.

“Good evening, everyone. I am not going to waste or take so much of your time, but I have a message I wish to share. I just want to let the inhabitants of this house know that they have just about 3 days of grace to start looking for somewhere to stay. I will be renting out this apartment in a month’s time,” she said, dropped the microphone, and walked away, leaving people in shock.

The next day, precisely at 10 AM, Stephan and I were already seated in the inspector’s office at the station. A few minutes later, Sandrine and her lawyer walked in and sat down. What surprised me about her entrance was that she looked well-dressed and smelled good, indicating that she had been allowed to go home the previous day. The inspector also entered, greeted us, and began the meeting.

The inspector explained that to take this case to court, we needed to ensure all facts about her story were clear. I wasn’t quite clear on what he said, so I asked Stephan to explain it to me later.

The Inspector then proceeded to ask me a few questions. Seeing my confused expression, he inquired,

“You said Sandrine here killed your children, didn’t you?”

    “Yes, sir!”

    “When was that, and where?”

“Saturday, precisely at 3 PM in February 2023, at her house on Ghana Street.”

“And were you a witness to this crime?”

    “No…”

“Do you have any evidence to prove that Madam Sandrine here murdered your children?”

“No! But she has CCTV cameras in her house which could show who committed the crime,” I tried to convince him.

He turned to Sandrine and asked, “Is that true, ma’am?” My phone rang just then, and I saw it was Mama Ellen—George’s mother—calling.

“Actually, sir, my CCTV cameras weren’t working that day; I was planning to fix them the next day. So that particular day’s footage wasn’t recorded,” Sandrine replied with a cunning smile. My phone rang again, but I ignored it.

“And ma’am Mina, do you have any other proof?” The inspector pressed.

“No, sir!” I answered, wiping my eyes as tears streamed down. The pain in my chest felt like a hot knife plunging into my heart. Feeling weak but determined to stay strong, I walked out of the room without another word. As I left, my phone rang again. This time I answered irritably,

    “What? Can’t I have a moment’s peace?”

“I am so sorry, my child; I didn’t mean to disturb you,” she said through tears.

“I’m sorry too, ma’am. It’s just been a terrible day. What’s happened?” I asked, softening my tone.

“George is dead! He committed suicide by jumping into the river,” she cried out.

“Jesus Christ!” I exclaimed in shock.

“Where are you now, mama?” I asked urgently.

“I’m at the bridge where it happened. The police called me,” she sobbed. She gave me directions to the bridge.

As I was about to inform Stephan that I needed to leave immediately, I overheard the inspector say,

“Please don’t involve yourself in such crimes again, Sandrine. What if I hadn’t been here? What would have happened to you?”

“I promise Inspector; it won’t happen again. Thank God My bro called you.” She said laughing. I saw Stephan on the other side coming towards the inspectors office. Which I was standing In front.
“ Are you okay?” he asked but I ignored it and immediately informed him that I was rushing home. Hurriedly Left the door and he followed me to where the car was parked.

He tried to fine out why I was crying and I told him my husband had committed suicide by jumping over the bridge.
“What happened?” he asked in shock
“I am on my way to find out”

When I arrived home, I intended to go straight to my room to avoid lectures from George’s mum, but she was waiting for me at the door.

“How are you? Have you eaten?” she asked with concern.

“I’m okay, Mama. No need to worry about me.”

“You know you have to eat. It’s not a request; it’s an order. You don’t want to fight for those who have gone and neglect the one still to come, do you?” She looked at me with an intensity that left me in shock.

“Mama, how did you know? I pleaded with the doctor not to tell anyone.”

“I am no child, Mina. So you better go and eat before I call your husband and start telling him,” she threatened.

    “No, Mama, I will eat. It’s just…”

    “Please go and eat.”

I was shocked this woman knew. I had decided to keep it to myself the day I found out, which was the same day I took Nuella to the hospital. I wanted to see how things would turn out between my husband and me before revealing the truth to him. Luckily for me, I am so glad I didn’t.

After eating, I bid Mama goodnight and retreated to my room. I bathed and was about to sleep but remembered I hadn’t called my lawyer concerning the case against Sandrine.

I took out my phone and was about to call when it suddenly started ringing. It was a strange number, and I considered ignoring it but decided to answer.

    “Hello?”

“Hello, Ma’am. This is Officer Spike calling to inform you that you’re expected here tomorrow with your lawyer.”

“Oh, okay. Thank you for the information, Officer Spike.”

“You’re welcome! Hope you’re good though?” He asked with concern.

“Yes, I am fine, Officer. But why do you ask?”

“Just asking. You seem like someone who’s typically going through a lot. Don’t get me wrong, but I saw you crying at Sandrine’s house and heard her say so many things which made me ask God why one person should go through all that,” he said.

“I wish he could answer, you know,” I said, wiping away the moving tears rushing down my cheek.

    “Anyways, good night Officer Spike.”

“Good night Miss Mina. If in case you need someone to talk to, I am here,” he offered.

    “Okay, thank you!”

I hung up and immediately called my lawyer.

I dialed his number and waited for him to pick up but he didn’t answer. Stephan was like that; he was my secondary school classmate and we also went to the same university. He was one of the best lawyers in town and had never lost a case since joining the law firm.

I didn’t have much money to hire him but even if it meant selling my kidney for this case, I would.

I rang again and this time he picked up.

    “Hello Stephan.”

    “Hi Mina, how are you?”

    “I am great, thank you!”

“I am sorry for being so busy with a case that closed today; I forgot to check on you. How are you faring? I heard what happened.”

“Brother! Trying my best. That’s why I called,” I said, expecting him to decline.

“Okay! Let’s hear it. How can I help?”

“Please, I want you to represent me in court. My husband’s first wife is suspected of having killed my two kids.”

    “Oh!” he exclaimed.

“Yes! And I was hoping you could help me out with the court case.”

“Of course, I will Mina. Actually, I am just returning from Douala and will be home in the morning.”

    “Oh, that’s bad!”

    “Why do you say so?”

“Because they’ve scheduled a meeting tomorrow at 10 am.”

“Okay, but I will be in town by that time. We will go to the station together.”

    “Okay! Thank you.”

When we arrived at the station, I had to wait for her to be questioned first to determine if she was indeed guilty or not. They didn’t allow me to go in to where she was taken for questioning. So I practically waited for them outside.

“If this woman is freed this evening, then truly it was my carelessness and my fault. But if she is detained and put on trial, I will make sure she rots in jail forever,” I said to myself in anger.

After an hour, I didn’t see anyone coming out of the room. I wasn’t sure of what to think, so I walked up to an officer who happens to be coming out of the room and asked,

    “Good day sir!”

“Yes! Fine girl. How can I help you?” he said, popping his eyes and smiling from jaw to jaw.

“Actually, I came here with a certain lady who was taken in for questioning. Haven’t seen her or heard any information about her whereabouts,” I asked, drifting away from the pungent carbon dioxide he sent out.

“Ohh, You mean the lady in black?” moving closer.

    “Yes sir, that’s the one.”

“I will go check what happened to her, but please can I get your number? You look so beautiful,” he said and winked at me flirtatiously.

“Jeez!!” I exclaimed in my heart. “If only you knew how much of a dog you look right now, You wouldn’t even think of coming an inch close to me,” I thought to myself, staring at the most dangerous animal made by God.

“God, I apologize, but you see this your Adams that you made, I am tired of their wahala. Hahaha. Look at this one ohh,” I was still thinking to myself when he suddenly snapped his fingers.

“Miss!!! Are you okay? I said that you sho…” my phone rings, and I pick it up immediately and disappear from his face.

    “Hello!!”

“Hello! My daughter?” George’s mum answered from the other side.

“Where are you? It’s already gone past six, and you’ve not come back home.”

“I am ok mama, I went to handle a few things,” I assured her.

“Ok! But please come home, you left this house since 7 am in the morning, and it’s almost 7 pm, and you’re not yet back. Come home!!” she persisted.

“I will mama, just don’t bother about me.”

My call was interrupted by Sandrine’s loud voice as she could be heard shouting at the officer.

“I have a child to breastfeed at home. I can’t be locked up here!!”

“I am sorry ma’am, but you have to prove you’re not guilty for us to let you go,” He told her calmly.

“And who the hell do you think you are to tell me what to do? Do you know who I am?”

“I don’t care to know if you have 50 horns, but I will advise you to call your lawyer than to continue to spill shit that will be used against you in the court of law!!” He screamed back at her, already enraged by her constant screaming.

While she was being taken to be locked up in a cell, she saw me and lashed out,

“You!!!” she said, pointing in my direction. “I will definitely get back at you. Just watch and see.”

“Let me go!!” She scolds another police officer who was asking her to get in.

It was time to get a lawyer for this case. Sandrine was not just an ordinary housewife like I was. She was a millionaire businesswoman, and I guess that’s the reason why my so-called husband decided to stick around. Apart from her bank accounts, she had nothing; she was naturally rude and loud, self-centered, and made everything about her that she hardly ever considered people. I wondered what excited my husband about this woman. I ordered a Yango, which came and took me directly to the house.

We were now standing at their door. One of the officers rang the bell, and after waiting for two to three minutes, the door opened.

“Good morning, Sir,” Sandrine’s mum greeted.

“Good morning. Is this the house of Sandrine?” the officer asked.

“Yes, it is. I hope there’s no problem, officer,” she replied, visibly frightened.

“Please, can we see your daughter, Ma?” the police officer insisted.

“Actually, she went to get some groceries. I will call her on the phone. Please come in and wait for her,” she ushered us in and then went back upstairs.

After a while, I heard her talking to her daughter on the phone, commanding her to come home quickly.

“Sandrine, you have guests,” she stated.

“It’s the girl who was here the other day,” she waited for her to answer.

“Yeah, I’m sure that’s her name,” she listened again.

“How should I know what she wants? She’s here with the police; come and sort things out. Their presence here scares me.”

A few minutes later, she came down and informed us that her daughter would be here in a minute.

I looked around and couldn’t find anyone except for the grandma and the little baby girl. The grandma went ahead and carried her baby from where she was into her arms. She looked so beautiful, having eyes just like my Nuella. She was the spitting image of her father. Her big eyes caught mine, and she smiled at me. But instead of smiling back, tears rolled down my cheek, and I had to quickly excuse myself.

“What are you doing, Mina? Why are you trying to take away a mother from her child?” I asked myself. I was outside her house, now pacing up and down, struggling to compose myself.

“But I need to find out what happened to my kids. She needs to go to jail,” I murmured to myself.

“Hey! Are you okay?” a voice spoke unexpectedly. I turned to see it was Sandrine’s mum.

“I am okay, ma’am!” I said as I stood in one spot, watching her walk towards me.

“I know you’re confused, hurt, feel betrayed, and even worse, but I wa—” before she could finish, I cut in.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but I need to go in now,” I said and left her there speechless.

As I was just coming in, Sandrine drove into her compound and rushed to where her mum was. Both of them made their way into the house and greeted the uniformed men.

“Good day, sir. How can I help you?”

“Good day, ma’am. I am Officer Spike Mvondo. You need to come with us to the police station for questioning concerning the deaths of Emmanuel and Emmanuella.”

“But I had no hand in…”

“I think you should do yourself a favor by keeping silent.”

“But why are you arresting me?”

“We are not arresting you, ma’am. We’re simply doing our job, which is to take you in for questioning.”

    “But…” she persisted.

“No buts, ma’am! Please come with us. Don’t make things harder than they already are.”

She turned to me. “You think I killed your children? Who the hell are you to come to my house and arrest me? You started this war, and I will end it. Watch me,” she blurted out.

“Ma’am, please, this is not the time to start posing threats to people. Let’s go.”

As much as I knew this was too much, I still needed to get justice for my children before they are buried. I was not a good mum, and so this might be the only chance I have to make amends for what happened.

That was the last time I heard about George. Amidst the stress, I found myself alone. I couldn’t help but wonder if other orphans suffered as I did. Despite everything, George’s mother stood by me. I wasn’t sure if it was guilt that drove her, but she was my constant support.

“My daughter, I know the pain you’ve been through, but trust me, everything will be alright,” she would often assure me.

After two weeks in the hospital, I was discharged. George’s mother stayed with me, offering comfort throughout my recovery.

As much as I wanted to believe that my twins’ deaths were accidental, I needed to know the truth. I needed to understand why they ended up in that well. When I stayed at Sandrine’s house, I had noticed the CCTV cameras. I decided to face the pain of seeing her again to discover what exactly happened to my children.

Being weak, I couldn’t drive myself, so I called a cab. It took me to Sandra’s place. I stepped out of the car and approached her gate. Before entering, I decided to observe the surroundings. Indeed, she had cameras outside her house.

“I can’t just walk in and ask for the CCTV footage. What if they were involved in my children’s deaths? How would I even know?” I pondered.

I realized I would need a police warrant. They must have orchestrated this from the beginning. They should know what happened to my children, and they would pay for it, I resolved as I walked away.

A few hours later, I found myself seated at the police station.

    “Good morning, sir!”

“Good morning! How may we assist you today?”

“Sir, I’m here to report a murder case.”

    “A murder case?”

    “Yes, sir.”

“Who was murdered, and what happened?”

“The murder of my two children, sir. It happened Two weeks ago.”

“Okay, take your time. I’m sorry about your children. Please calm down and tell me what happened.”

“My name is Mina Abong, and I was married to George Cletus—or at least, that’s what I thought.”

I proceeded to explain everything to the police officer. He took down my statement and informed me to return later, as a warrant would be granted, and I could accompany the officers. Unable to wait, I told them I was prepared to wait there.

I dozed off on a plank chair beside the desk. A few minutes later, someone tapped me from behind.

“Are you the woman waiting for the warrant?”

    “Yes, sir”

I received the documents and led the officers to where George and his wife lived. With each step, my nerves frayed, but my need to know the truth propelled me forward.

I woke up on the couch to find my cheating husband staring at me. Everyone’s attention was now on me. That’s when I realized that this whole event was a trap. His other wife, Sandrine, had someone watching my every move. That’s how she discovered I ran an eatery. Her contacting me and inviting me over was all part of her scheme. She didn’t approach me directly at first. I stood there, confused and unsteady.

“Oh wow, you’re awake. It was about time you woke up,” Sandrine said as she moved majestically into the living room.

“Hey guys, sorry for everything, but I think the party time is over. I would like to thank you all for coming to celebrate my little princess. It just so happens that a family emergency has come up and must be resolved,” she announced, ushering everyone out of her house.

“Sandrine, please don’t do this!” George pleaded.

“Oh, so now you’re begging me, George. You and your mom deceived me for seven years, George. One, two… seven. Seven good years,” Sandrine stated.

“But Mina has nothing to do with this either. She…”

“She is the only thing you think about,” she blurted out.

    “But San…”

“She’s your side chick, for God’s sake!” she continued.

“What! Side what?” I asked, looking up at George, who couldn’t even maintain eye contact with me.

“Babe, don’t listen to what she’s saying. I was…” He struggled to explain himself.

“You were what, George?” Sandrine interrupted.

    She turned to me.

“George and I have been married for seven good years. He told me he loved me and didn’t care about having kids. I thought he was true to me, only to find out from a friend that he has another woman somewhere with two kids.”

“You see!” she exclaimed, sitting down beside where I sat.

“In court, we signed a monogamous marriage contract, which by law proves that to this date, I am still his legal and only wife. You, on the other hand, are just my husband’s side chick.”

“But his mom and family…” I burst out crying, rushing to where my car was parked. When I reached the car, I sat down beside it and cried my eyes out.

By now, my kids would have probably opened the door to talk to me, but the unusual silence got me worried, and I decided to check on them. I had been gone for a very long time, leaving them in the car.

When I opened my car, my kids were nowhere to be found. Nuella and Emma were missing.

“Emma! Nuella!” I screamed, frantically searching for them.

George ran outside, and despite his efforts to find out what happened, I ignored him and continued calling my children’s names. My eyes were swollen as if stung by bees. I ran up the road, calling their names, checking if they were playing elsewhere. But it was to no avail.

I finally stopped when I saw Nuella’s ribbon beside a small well. I ran there, only to find my two children’s bodies Floating at the top of the well.

“Emma! Nuella!” These were my last words before I collapsed and found myself in the hospital on full drip.

Even when I woke up, my head wasn’t clear as I spoke off-key.

“Doctor, please, is my wife okay?” George asked.

“Your wife is going to be fine, Mr. George. She’s just experiencing traumatic stress right now.”

“Poor child! I can imagine how much pain she’s going through right now,” my mother-in-law uttered.

“What happened, son? How did you let this happen to your wife and kids?” she demanded.

“I did nothing, Mom. It was Sandra who invited her.”

“What? You mean that barren witch? Why would she do that?”

“Mom! She’s not barren; we have a daughter now.”

“Wow! We? Don’t tell me you’ve been sneaking behind your wife, sleeping with that witch?”

“Mom, please! Sandra is still my wife!”

“And Mina is your wife too! But look at what your stupidity has caused her. How can you be so foolish to stoop so low?”

“Oh, shoot, Mom! Look, I am sick and tired of you constantly telling me I haven’t done this, I have done that. It’s my life, okay! Let me manage it my way. Besides, you were the one who got me into this mess. I didn’t want to settle down with Mina, but you made me do it. Now look at what you’ve caused,” George said as he angrily stormed out.

At about 3pm, I was done preparing the orders and so I decided to go deliver. I took Nuella and Emma along simply because I had no one home to leave them with. While in the car, they kept on reciting their Nursery songs and making me laugh.

When we arrived at our first destination, I stopped the car and called the number again.

“Good Day ma’am. It’s Mina. I am actually at the location you gave me, Ok we’re outside.”

A few minutes later she came out and collected the Food tray and we left to our next delivery spot.

When I arrived there, I called and as usual the client picked and told me to wait a little outside. A few minutes later, she called again and I picked. She asked me to come inside, which I did. I told my kids to stay in the car, but soon regretted that. When I was at the door, I rang the bell and waited. And for some reason, my heart pounded in fear. I began sweating profusely and kept on wiping it off. A few minutes later, I heard the door open.

    “Hello!!!”

“Hello, ma’am. I am here to deliver this,” I pointed to the big bag I had carried with the food inside.

“Oh yeah, my daughter asked me to come check it out. Oh!! Please come in and sit while I get your money,” she said.

“Oh no ma’am, I wish I could but I have my two kids in the car waiting for me.”

“Oh! That’s a shame. I wanted you to join us for the celebration. My daughter is celebrating her baby’s 1st birthday today. After years of being barren.”

    “Oh wow, is that so?”

    “Yes, my dear.”

    “Congratulations ma’am.”

“Come in and sit while I get your money. I promise I won’t waste your time,” she insisted.

I walked in to the living room, admiring the beautiful house. It was grand and so well constructed. I went straight to the couch where I was asked to sit, sat down before looking around. There were already many people streaming in and out of the living room. There were beautiful girls, sexy, handsome, and sophisticated men. Everyone there was looking good and I was already liking their vibes only for me to look on the wall where family pictures are posted, and find my husband’s picture with another woman hung on their wall. It wasn’t just any woman, but the same woman I had that encounter with in the market.

At first, I wasn’t sure if I had seen right so I got up from the sofa and walked over to see well. Indeed it was my husband. My eyes were not deceiving me. As I stood there in shock, not knowing whether to cry, a voice said from behind.

“Hello! How much is your money?”

I was still facing the wall when I heard him talk again,

“My wife… says I sh…” he froze as soon as I turned around.

“Mina?!! Wha… Wh… what are you doing here?” He struggled to talk.

    “George!!!”

“Mina, what are you… How did you…”

His guilty face was the last I saw before passing out.

When I came back from the market, I came out and opened the gate. When I was in, I parked and then rushed and locked the gate. It was already 9 o’clock in the morning. Emma and Nuella were already up, watching their tv program. This time it was Mr Bean.
“Mummy!!!” they both screamed excitedly at the same time.

My hands were so full I couldn’t hug them back. I proceeded to the kitchen to drop them. I had only taken few things just so that my husband doesn’t ask me questions. I only took foodstuffs for the house and left the rest locked in the boot. When I went into the kitchen, it smelled of fried eggs and toasted bread.

“Have you guys eaten already?” I asked perplexed

    “yes mama!” Emma answered.

    “Who made you breakfast?”

    “Daddy!” They both answered.

“Ooh !! okay. That’s new. He must have been in his good mood” I giggled. I went to the room to check what he was doing. I walked up the stairs and entered my room, but didn’t see him. I saw his outfit neatly placed on the bed. I took out my gabba I was wearing and put on something simple.

His phone started ringing and few minutes later, he came out rushing from the bathroom, naked and covered in soap. When he saw me, he froze and I burst out laughing. He looked so hideous, covered in guilt

“Hahahaha! Why would you run out of the bath like that?” I asked still laughing.

“Nothing!” He said as he disgracefully goes back in.

“Who could…” I paused to think. It occurred to me that something is fishy. The phone rang again but this time he didn’t rush out.
I went closer the phone and saw a female name Sandra.

“Your phone is ringing should I pick it…”

“ Noo!” he answered in a loud voice before I could finished.

    “ I mean, emm… I … I am done I will come answer it.”

“The person has been persisting for long. Are you sure it’s not something important.?”
    “ No it’s not.”

“By the way. In the market today, this woman walked up to me.”

“ Ehe! What happened, don’t tell me you were fighting?”

“Not really she said I was frolicking around with her Man”

“ Seriously!!. And Are you?” he asked

“of Couse not!. Actually, I have been meaning to ask you this?

“What’s that Babe?” he asked picking up his trousers and wearing them.

“Oh! You called me Babe wow! It’s been ages.”

“Can’t I call my wife Babe?” pooling his well iron T-shirt and put it.
“Is everything okay?” I asked after long silence.

“ I mean is there anything you would maybe like to tell me?”

“No! No Babe.!” He said spraying his perfume.
“Babe dan enter the Matter” I whispered to myself.

“Okay have great day, am off to meet some friends. I will be back in the evening” he said picking up his keys

“In the Night you mean.” He ignored me and left.

When I was done, I went downstairs to get something to eat. I don’t remember having anything as food. Sometimes it’s usually like this since I became a mother. We fight so many battles that we sometimes forget to eat. After eating, I sat in the parlor for a while with my kids who were watching their cartoon, “Mr Magoo,” on Boomerang.

I took out my phone and went to my Facebook page to see if I had orders for tomorrow. I was owned an eatery where, I cook and deliver food on command. It was a little business I had which helped me provide some of my basic needs. Each time I cooked my home made meals, I took pictures of it and post on Facebook and TikTok. This was how I managed to occupy myself whenever my husband was on his mystery trips. I have been doing so for the past two years since I got married to George. He had never once found out I was running a business, nor did he know I ran a page online. All he knew about me was that I was a master’s degree holder, a housewife that he made.

He owned an organization which made him travel in and out of the country frequently. Though he made sure we never lacked anything, I wasn’t happy with the fact that I was going to be a stay at home mum. I only agreed to it because, before we got married, I was already pregnant. I could not bear to be a baby mama. Though he appears to be difficult, he was to me the best father to my kids. He made sure right down to the smallest thing they needed, he gave me money for it. There are days he devoted to go out with and spend time with our kids that’s basically the only day. I get to spend time with my husband.

I on the other hand, I used to work as an accountant at a very prestigious bank, but when George and I got married, he told me he would be the one to provide for me and my kids. He asked me to quit and be a stay-at-home mum. As much as I hated it, I had no choice. I was doing this online without his knowledge. My page had just my location my name which was masked though. In my images and videos, I made sure I cut my face.

I had two orders for food trays; I had to make 50 plates of fried rice and chicken for a meeting and 10 liters of folere drink, what’s known as zobo drink. I quickly assured the customers the food would be ready on time.

I got up in the morning, before my kids wake up, and prepare to go the market. I informed him that I was going to the market
I arrived at the market within 15 minutes of driving. It was already 7:00 am; the market was populated simply because it was a Saturday. I looked for a good spot and parked my car before coming out. I went about pricing my foodstuffs since things had mysteriously increased. A heap of tomatoes which was sold for 500 FCFA had suddenly skyrocketed to 1500.

“La mère, this your tomatoes too na. Give me for 700 at most?” I bargained.

“No No ma Chérie, these tomatoes have become very expensive. I can’t give like that,” she battled.

“Fix my own price na mama, it’s not like I’m a stranger ohh, I’m your regular,” I persisted.

“My Chérie, I know say you ma personne, but I no give you so!. Okay give me 1000,” she proposed.

“Okay, give me two heaps for 2000. You have treated me badly,” I said while removing money from my pocket.

“Ce n’est pas ma fault Chérie. We buyam like that for the… ehh… people,” she explained.

As she was packing the tomatoes, I bent down to help her pack and put them in my bag. Suddenly, someone tapped me from behind, and I quickly got up to see who it was, only for a woman to say,

“So you’re the one he’s been frolicking around with hah?” She accused unapologetically.

“Excuse me!!, Are you sure you’re okay? Who’s frolicking with who?” I asked, surprised.

“You’re not even that beautiful!” she said, shaking her head in disgust.

“I can see you’re not okay! How…” I started, but she sighed and left without letting me complete my sentence, leaving me dumbfounded.

I also spotted Madam Marble. As soon as my son saw me, he rushed and jumped into my arms, and I lifted him up.

“Mum! You left me at school and…” he said, looking so sad.

“I am so sorry, baby. Mummy got a little distracted today with work,” I said, turning to the teacher. “Thank you so much, Marble. I was already so worried. I hope it didn’t affect your schedule.”

“It’s no big deal, Ma’am. Actually, I live around this neighborhood, so I thought of bringing him along.”

I pressed a 5000 banknote into her palm. “Here’s for your trouble. And thank you again.”

“Oh no, Ma’am! Emmanuel is a good boy and a nice kid too. I just wanted to help him get home.”

She waved at my son and left. I ignored the fact that my husband had come and decided to concentrate on my son. It was because of him that I forgot Emma at school.

I took out Emma’s uniform and was about to take him to the room when I heard a voice from behind.

“And where exactly did you leave my children and go to?”

“Good day to you too, George!” I ignored his question and proceeded to the room.

“Mina! Am I not talking to you?” He became agitated.

“Oh, are we doing a question and answer session now, huh?”

    “Where did you…”

“From his school, George! From Emmanuel’s school,” I said in a loud voice, before realizing my son was still there. I asked my son to go to the room, ease himself, and take off his shoes so that I could come and bathe him. When he was finally gone, I proceeded.

“I was occupied with Nuella that I forgot about his closing time. By the time I rushed there, his teacher had brought him home already.”

“And you left Nuella alone at home, crying and all messed up?”

“Okay, since we’re up for questions and answers today, how about you tell me where you’ve been? Why has your phone been off all this while?”

“And what do you mean by that? I told you I was going…”

“To Uganda for a trip, right?! But what I don’t understand is why my friend, who in fact doesn’t live in Uganda, saw you at her cousin’s wedding with another woman, whom she thought was me.”

“Excuse me! I… I am just coming back from a long journey which happens to have been so stressful, and all you have to do is attack me with a made-up story?” I knew he would obviously deny it, so I showed him the picture.

“George, look at this. Isn’t that you?”

    “Yeah! But…”

“But what, George? Or do you mean to tell me it’s someone who looks like you?” I asked.

    “Of course, it coul…”

“Wow, what a coincidence, huh? Because it looks to me like he’s also wearing the robe I got you for your birthday.”

He took out his phone, scrolling through it, and then showed me some pictures he had taken with a certain organization.

“Does this prove that I was at work? Can I have peace in my own house now?” He asked and walked away, leaving me puzzled. As much as I knew he was still lying to me, I couldn’t keep up with the argument. He would just look for more lies and try to convince me or make me look bad.

I suddenly remembered I had asked Emma to go ease himself and quickly rushed because I knew how mischievous he was. Just like I had expected, Oga had finished easing himself and brought out his colors from his backpack. He took them to the bath and soaked them in water. He had opened the shower and drawn with his colors on the wall.

I was already so exhausted that I had no energy to scold him. I rushed in, scolded, and spanked him. When I was done, I dressed him, took him downstairs, and made supper for everyone. While they were eating, I went upstairs to clear the mess Emma had made before heading to my room to clean myself up.

I had just undressed and was ready to head to the bathroom when suddenly a message popped up on my husband’s phone, which was on the bedside cupboard. It was in my nature to be nosy, but I got curious and wanted to really know where my husband had gone. I rushed over to where the phone was and tapped on it.

His notifications could be read even without opening the phone, so I saw a message that read, “Hey! Thanks for coming. I really enjoyed our time together. Hope we can spend time like this as…” I could not read all because I needed to open his phone. I didn’t know his password, and at the same time, I heard his footsteps coming to our room.

👩‍❤️‍👨 Mina The Side Chick: ❣️

I felt depressed and pained, as if a thousand nails were piercing my chest. I checked my husband’s contact again and saw nothing except our last conversation, which had been two weeks ago. The messages I sent today were still at one tick. I decided to call him again, but the automated voice kept informing me that the number was not available at the moment.

I wondered what could have made him lie to me. He told me, for God’s sake, that he was going to Uganda for a business trip, only for me to find out that he was, in fact, still in town attending a wedding with a strange woman.

I had been sitting and wondering, disturbed, when suddenly I heard Nuella scream. I rushed in only to find her on the floor, crying. “Oh my God! What happened, Mama?” I asked, lifting her from the floor and placing her on the bed. “Did you fall?” I asked, and she nodded. “Oh no! My poor child. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine, okay? Mama is here for you.” “Mmhmm,” she nodded again. I patted her back until she fell asleep. I examined her temperature and was happy that the drugs had been working.

I left again for my room, took out my phone, and turned it on, only to throw it down in shock when I discovered that I was an hour late to take Emma from school. It was 2:00 PM. I was supposed to have taken him from school at 1:00 PM.

I quickly grabbed my car keys, my purse, and my phone, and rushed out. As I was driving out, my phone rang, but I decided to ignore it. How could I have been so distracted? Oh God! I feel like a useless mom right now. Nuella and Emma, my twin babies of five years old, were both in nursery two, and I loved them so much, more than my life. They were my only companions whenever their father went on his business trips.

I wasn’t the best when it comes to being a mom because things like this often happen. But I tried my best to be there for them and to make sure they never lacked anything.

A few minutes later, I was at their school, but I didn’t find anyone around. I was worried. Why wasn’t he still here? In fact, the gate was closed to the nursery section, and I could only see students from the primary.

“Hello, ma’am, by any chance have you seen a 5-year-old in that section?” I asked a teacher coming from the primary section. ”No, I haven’t. Initially, nursery children are not allowed to enter the primary section. They play a lot and might disturb the lessons,” she replied.

“Okay. But where could he be?” I wondered.

“Have you called…” before she could finish talking, that same number again called me, and I decided to pick up.

“Hello, please, who is this?” I asked, a little agitated and frustrated.

“Hello, please, is this Madam Mina Abong?”

“Yes, please, how can I help you?”

“I am Madam Mable, your son’s teacher. I think you forgot him at school.”

“Yes! Yes! My dear, please, where is he now? I was caught up with something, and by the time I checked my watch, it was already too late.”

“Sorry to hear that, ma’am. I’m actually in front of your house now, ma’am. I’m with him. I have been ringing, but no one answered, so I took your number from the school WhatsApp group and called.”

“That was so kind of you, my dear. Thank you so much. Please, I will be with you in a jiffy.”

I rushed back home, but by the time I arrived, she was not in front of my house like she said. I drove in and spotted my husband’s car and immediately understood he had returned from his so-called Uganda trip.

I parked my car and then rushed in, and there my son was, sitting on the dining table, eating his snacks.
