On a bright Saturday morning, Bruce sat with his wife in his porch. He recalled with a shiver, the chaotic day when he and his wife returned from the church she ran to, seeking solace after his mother had relentlessly chased her out of her own home.
A whirlwind of emotions clouded his mind as he remembered how mama had nearly made him lose his mind, as soon as they stepped foot back into the house.
Bruce’s pleas for his mother to leave fell on deaf ears, as she defiantly refused to budge from the place that once held warmth and love for the couple.
However, in a twist of fate, just as tension reached its peak, his mother’s face suddenly paled upon receiving an urgent call from the village.
It seemed as though destiny had intervened, compelling her to embark on an immediate journey back home.
Relief washed over Bruce as his mother reluctantly picked her bags and made her way out of the house, while threatêning fire and brimstone, if she met Tracy in the house, the next time she visited her son.
He was so happy that God in His infinite wisdom, didn’t wait until he did something drastic, before sending his mother out of his house, allowing him and his wife to finally reclaim the peace and tranquility that had been ruthlessly shattered.
“I’m sorry my love. Trust me, we are going to overcome everything eventually” Bruce had told his wife, who only nodded in acceptance.
That morning, as they sat in the porch, he told her about his encounter with Drake, and how Drake insisted on marrying Samantha, even after traditionally marrying Patricia.
Tracy was so heartbroken to hear about what Patricia was going through, and opined that they visited Patricia to be sure she wasn’t taking it too hard on herself, since there was no way they were going to attend Samantha’s wedding.
The news hit Patricia like a ton of bricks. Standing in her empty apartment, her heart sank as she listened to the whispered rumours that Drake was officially wedding Samantha on the very day they were supposed to exchange vows.
The tears welled up in her eyes as the reality of the situation settled in – she was not only heartbroken, but bearing an insignia that would always remind her of her folly
The weight of the emotion overwhelmed her, and Patricia collapsed onto the couch, sobbing uncontrollably.
Thoughts raced through her mind, wondering how she had let herself believe that Drake loved her, only to be betrayed in the cruelest way possible.

She recalled how her friend had advised her to move on, and how she had chosen to prove to Samantha that she could get her man back if she wanted, only to end up the way she did.
“Dear Lord, I need you now, more than I have ever needed you.
“Help me come out of this alive, for my heart is so weak now, I doubt it’s ability to keep up with the pressure it’s getting now” Patricia prayed pitifully.
She was still crying inconsolably when Cynthia her friend rushed into her house, looking angrier than she should be.
“What is this story that I am hearing? Oh, you’re crying already, which means it’s true.
“Patricia, so Drake went ahead to marry that girl, instead of coming to sort things out with you, like we hoped he would?” Cynthia asked her friend hysterically.
Patricia gave a nod, unable to utter a word, as she stretched her hand, to let her friend have the paper she was looking at earlier.
“Sweet Jesus! You are pregnant? You got pregnant for that dêspicable man, and still managed to lose him to that girl?
“I told you Patricia, I begged you to forget about that marriage, but you were too concerned about what people will say if you broke up with a man you were about to get married to.
“Then, you let him take your innocence. You gave out something you have treasured and preserved for so long, to a swine, just to compete with a pig in the name of Samantha.
“And now, the pig has gone to be with one of his kind, after messing you up so bãdly.
“Not only will you will now be known as a dīvorcee, the pig managed to leave a dirt mark on you, to ensure that you get to move around with it’s smell, for the rest of your days
”Ha Patricia, you messed up big time. You let things get this terrible by your inability to know when to throw in the towel. It would have been less shameful to be jilted before your traditional wedding, than to get traditionally married, and still be discarded like this. Gosh!” Cynthia berated her harshly, leaving Patricia more broken than she was, before she arrived.
Bruce and Tracy walked in at that moment, and though Patricia and Tracy haven’t been really close, Patricia could see the concern and care in her eyes, as she walked to her sides, and sat beside her.
“Patricia, you will stop crying now, because I believe what you owe yourself now, is something better.
“I’m sorry to say it, but Drake isn’t worth the fuss and the tears.” Bruce said, clenching his fists, only releasing them, as he saw her behind to wipe her tears.
“Thank you! Thank you for making her see what I have been saying. Drake is a scúm, and doesn’t deserve her at all. Please talk to her
“Maybe when you tell her also, she will understand that she has to be totally rid of the pig’s mark on her” Cynthia shrieked, making Bruce to look at Patricia for an answer.
Between sobs, Patricia managed to utter a few words, “D-Drake… even after he… married Samantha. On our wedding day… I’m pregnant with his child”
Bruce’s gasp of disbelief came forth, right before he could suppress it.
“Oh my God, so Drake is going to let you nurse this pregnancy all alone? He is cruèl enough to watch you go through all the intricacies of pregnancy alone?” Tracy asked in shock.
“You can’t be serious! I hope you’re not suggesting that she keeps that…” Cynthia was saying, but Bruce cut in
“I think you should take it easy ma’am. Patricia is in one of her worst moments…” Bruce began, but Cynthia cut in too.
“Of course she is. All thanks to her refusal to heed warnings and be reasonable. If she had done the needful back then, there won’t be this monumental embarrassment of a man already traditionally married to her, wedding another, how much more, a pregnancy” Cynthia insisted.
“Sure enough. And since she had already made the mistake of not doing the right thing before, those who care for her, should stand by her to help her see the way forward, and not make the mistake of dwelling on the past any longer.
“And I can tell you in clear terms that getting an abôrtion, that has the potential of making her lose much more, isn’t the step she’s taking” Tracy said firmly.
Cynthia took a long look at Patricia and realized that she appeared happy to hear Tracy’s opinion on the matter.
She picked up her bag, wished Patricia well in her new found friendship with Tracy, and walked out of the house.
Bruce and his wife assured Patricia that it was the best thing to keep the pregnancy, and promised to support her in any way they can.
Their unwavering support gave Patricia the courage she needed to take the first step towards healing.
With a newfound determination, she shared her plan of changing her environment completely, leaving behind the painful memories and starting afresh, and the couple offered to help her relocate to the UK, where Bruce had someone waiting to welcome her.
Embracing their offer gratefully, Patricia packed her belongings, leaving behind the heartache and shattered dreams in her old apartment. , Patricia felt a sense of relief washing over her. Although the pain would always be a part of her, she was determined not to let it consume her.
