After the first night Patricia got her husband to make löve to her, he seemed to have gone on a sabbatical leave because he just didn’t make any attempt to touch her again. And to make things so terrible, he didn’t seem to care that Patricia was actually becoming a shadow of herself.
Patricia sat alone at the kitchen table one night, her fingertips drumming impatiently against the wooden surface. It had become a familiar routine for her, waiting for her husband, Drake, to return home. But lately, his apathy towards their marriage had reached an unbearable level.
Drake’s infatuation with Samantha, was like a dark cloud that hung over their lives. Every evening, he would concoct elaborate excuses, playing tricks on Patricia to ensure he could get away.
Their once loving and secure relationship had crumbled, replaced with deceit and deceitful yearnings from the moment Drake yielded to Samantha’s seductiôn.
That night, while she sat waiting and crying, a part of her, the part that had been most touched by his shàmelessness decided that she’s had enough.
Determined to confront Drake and make him see that she had always known his secret liaison, Patricia resolved to unravel the twisted web of deception that threatened to destroy their marriage and her mentàl health, because she could already tell that the marriage held no hopes for her.
As the minutes slipped away, tension and anxiety gripped her heart. Patricia glanced at the clock; it was nearly ten o’clock, and Drake had not yet returned.
Panic fluttered like a caged bird within her chest. “Where else could he be? What tricks had he conjured this time to hide his rendezvous with Samantha?” She thought bitterly
With a surge of determination, Patricia grabbed a dress and her keys. It was time to give Drake the proof she had always wanted to give him. She could no longer allow herself to be a pawn in Drake’s and Samantha’s dishonest game.
Outside, the evening air was crisp, the sky adorned with twinkling stars that seemed to mock Patricia’s crumbling reality.
She got into her car, her hands gripping the wheel so tightly that her knuckles turned white. As she sped down the darkened streets, her mind replayed fragments of conversations, cryptic messages, and scattered clues she’d discovered on Drake’s phone since they got married.
A tear escaped her eyes as she thought of the number of times she had seen evidences of her husband’s involvement with Samantha but couldn’t confront him.
She had once stumbled on Drake engrossed in a video chat with Samantha. He was so carried away with the sèxchat that he didn’t even notice her sneak up behind him to see Samantha shamelessly showing him body parts that made Drake möan like a lunàtic.
In pains and anguish, Patricia had tiptoed out of the room, unwilling to let Drake know that she had seen what he was doing with Samantha, largely because she wasn’t ready to have issues with him, when their church wedding was just a few days away and she wasn’t ready to face the shame of having it called off.
Patricia’s thoughts were interrupted as her phone buzzed on the passenger seat. Glancing quickly, she saw a text message from Drake: “Running late, babe. Don’t wait up for me.”
His casual dismissal further fueled the raging fire within her. Determined more than ever, she ignored his message and navigated towards Samantha’s house.
Within minutes, Patricia found herself parked across the dimly lit street from Samantha’s house.
As she sat there, her eyes was filled with tears. She couldn’t help but feel a mix of anger, betrayal, and heartache. How had it come to this? How had they arrived at a point where the person who promised to cherish and protect her was now chasing after another woman, so much so he doesn’t even see her like a woman anymore?
Time passed like an agonizing eternity as Patricia huddled within the shadows of her car, clutching a flickering glimmer of hope that her suspicions would be proven wrong.
“It’s still possible that he didn’t come to her tonight. His car isn’t here after all” she tried to console herself
Her eyes darted towards a couple emerging from the door, their laughter floating through the air, as they screamed about the fun they had waiting for them in the nightclub.
Patricia’s heart plummeted when she recognized Drake’s familiar silhouette. He stood arm-in-arm with Samantha, his face alive with a joy that seemed foreign to Patricia now.
Her anguish mingled with a fierce determination as she watched Drake affectionately whisper into Samantha’s ear. That was it.
She could no longer deny the cruel reality before her. Samantha was the object of his insatiable desire, the person who stole her husband’s heart and relegated her to a little less than a furniture in Drake’s eyes.
As tears stung her eyes, Patricia squeezed the steering wheel, her trembling hands mirroring the turmoil in her soul.
Tonight, she had seen enough. Now was the time to confront Drake, and face the reality of the shenanigan her relationship with Drake had become.
With newfound strength, Patricia took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. Her path was set firmly before her, and the scent of the self deception that she had reveled in for so long, oozed all around her, as she walked in quick strides to double cross them.
Drake and Samantha halted abruptly, shocked to see Patricia right in front of them, but Samantha’s shock was nothing but a momentary one, she soon looked up defiantly at Patricia, plus, Drake wasn’t looking like he was going to let her waist go.
Patricia’s heart pounded against her ribcage as she stood frozen, her breath catching in her throat and tears fighting to escape.
The scene before her was like a punch to her gut, leaving her feeling physically ill.
Rage ignited within her, fueling her determination to confront them. She found her voice, trembling yet strong, as she mustered the courage to address the two people who had shattered her trust and faith in love.
“Drake… Samantha…” she spoke, her voice laced with a mixture of hurt, anger, and disappointment. “How could you be this shãmeless?”
Drake’s face flushed with guilt, but he quickly composed himself, attempting to feign innocence. “Patricia, please, let me explain,” he pleaded, his voice lacking the sincerity she had once cherished.
“No, Drake,” Patricia interrupted, tears welling up in her eyes, but refusing to let them fall. “There are no excuses for what I am seeing now.
“We were supposed to be committing to each other, promising to honour and cherish one another until death do us part in front of our family and friends.” She said
Her voice wavered slightly as she continued, her words filled with a mix of anger and sorrow.
“I saw the signs, they were all so clear, yet I blindly moved on.
“But now, I cannot stay married to a man who has betrayed me in such a cruel manner – a man who lacks remorse and chooses to continue his infidèlity, even after being caught red-handed.” Patricia said painfully
But Samantha merely shrugged, a nonchalant expression crossing her face. “I’m pregnant, Patricia. And Drake here was just doing what he should do for a woman he loves, one that has his seed growing in her.
“And if it’ll help you decide faster, you’ll see that he seems to care less about the fact that being a man that he should be, is the reason you chose to run around this late in the night, looking for what’s not looking for you. But if you can’t read the handwriting on the wall, then I’m sorry for you” Samantha threw carelessly.
Disbelief tinged Patricia’s ears, at Samantha’s words as she glanced at Drake, hoping for a semblance of remorse, but finding none in his cold eyes.
Drake’s audacity finally broke through Patricia’s defenses, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Well, congratulations, Drake. It is now crystal clear that you’ve chosen Samantha over the love and commitment we pledged to one another all these years” she spat, her voice raw with emotion.
“But rest assured, our church wedding is off. Good luck with your new life, both of you.”
With those final words, Patricia turned on her heel, her heart heavy and her eyes blurred with unshed tears.
As she walked away from the shattered remnants of her once-promising future, she vowed to rebuild her life, to find happiness again, and to leave behind the tôxic whirlwind of Drake and Samantha’s betrayal.
The pain might linger, but Patricia knew she deserved a love that would never falter or betray her, a love that honored the vows so calloūsly discarded.
Her only regret being not making the moves when she ought to have done it!
Drake watched her go. He knew the should stop her, and promise never to hurt her again, but he was too lazy to continue in self denial. Tired of deceiving himself that things could work out between him and Patricia,Zenith when his heart and body wanted none but Samantha.
