Bruce’s mother hurried her son out of Chief Scot’s compound and made him see clearly, how ready she was to go extreme with him, if he didn’t leave the compound with her.
“What if she’s your child mum? Have you stopped to think about how you would have felt if you had been in her mother’s position?
“You heard it mother, this isn’t the first time this kind of thing is happening to them, so they must have been through so much already.
“It must be very frùstrating and painful for them to have had to go through this again, and I, who had convinced her that everything was going to be okay, had to just walk away like that, because I have a mother who thinks I’m still a toddler!” Bruce fumed as he sat in the car besides his mother, who had tied an end of her wrapper to his shirt.
“Can you hear yourself? So Bruce you knew that she has a spiritual problem and you chose to be the sacrificial lamb?
“You knew that my suspicions about the girl wasn’t wrong, yet you kept assuring me that I was over thinking things?
“Are you under some sort of spell or what? I don’t want to believe it’s just the pretty face that’ll make you suddenly so senseless that you forgot that forcefully getting married to a girl like her would only mean disaster for the man.
“Well, whether you’re under a spell or not, whether you’re just being plain stupîd or you have suddenly göne bananas, I am still very much sane, and I won’t watch you walk to an early grave, when you’re my only son.
“And Bruce, I can’t be in her mother’s shoes because all three of my daughters are happily married. Neither of them has, or will ever pose a spiritual threat to their husbands” Mrs. Ikenga replied her son.
“Bruce, you have to listen to your mother. I know you think you know what you’re doing, but what we saw there just now, isn’t something you should just ignore
“Something is definitely wrong somewhere and until it is known for sure what it is, it will be very unwise for you to keep pushing to be with her” one of his uncles told him.
Someone else sitting behind him, also agreed with his uncle, and Bruce saw how useless it was going to be, to keep arguing with them. He chose to ignore them, and make his own plans afterwards.
He walked into his bedroom with quick strides as soon as their car got to his father’s compound, thinking of what to do.
Back in Chief Scot’s compound, Tracy had regained consciousness in her bedroom, and her mother was looking down at her with a worried face.
“It happened again, right? Bruce is also going to be history just like the others, is it not?
“I told you mum. I told you that this will not also end well. I told you that believing that a miracle can just happen to stop me from hearing that melody that takes me away from the physical realm, is just a wishful thinking.
“Why didn’t I listen to my father? Why didn’t I just move in with him as my father suggested, and save us all the shame and embà rrassment that comes with this move to get me married every time?” Tracy cried.
“Its okay Tracy. Please stop crying like this, it’s breaking my heart so bãdly.
“I know it’s hard on you to keep facing shame on the day you should be the happiest, but you have to understand that I want the best for you, and I am the most affected by this problem.
“How are you supposed to just move in with a man, when you’re not married? Have you not considered how shà meful it will be that all the children you will bear, will never belong to that man because he didn’t marry you officially?
“And away from that, have you looked beyond what will happen when you start living with the man, and have to pass the night with him?
“Bruce may have been told that you sing every night, but has he experienced it first-hand? Do you know how he’d react when he hears you singing those strange songs at night?” her mother asked her.
“And getting married to him would have made a difference? You think he would have been forced to stay wit me after witnessing the strange acts, just because he had married me?
“Mum, why aren’t we talking about why I hear this voice every night, and why this voice only comes during the day, if I have some important things to do?” Tracy asked her mother.
“We aren’t talking about it because I don’t know for sure what’s responsible for it, and the only one who said he knows what is wrong, has requested that you do something prepòsterous for you to be able to get out of it” her mother told her.
Tracy began to cry again, turned her face to the wall, and asked her mother to leave her alone.
Stephanie walked out of he room, crying too. She was very worried and confused.
She didn’t know how she was going to keep seeing her daughter go through the pains and misery she was going through, and still keep her vow not to interfere in the matters of the spirits.
“I know that I made a vow to steer clear of Uloma’s path to ensure that she doesn’t take my life too, but for how long am I going to watch her torment my daughter?
“For how long am I going to sit still and watch her make a mess of my daughter’s life?” Stephanie thought, crying in her room.
Meanwhile, Tracy who had been lying on her bed, trying to catch some sleep, was awoken by the gentle but undeniable rush of air that usually heralded the visit of the being behind the voice.
Usually, she would look away, for fear of seeing something that would make her go insĂ ne, but that night was different. She wanted to see the being. To know why she was always having goose bumps all over her body, each night the singing creature visited.
She got up from her bed, and chose to look out, to see what was really behind the tĂ´rments.
The blurry shape of a young girl began to take form, as the smoke-like mist, that rushed in through her window, began settle on her bed.
Earlier that day, when she had been given a glass of wine to find her husband and make him drink from it, she had felt the rush of air all of a sudden, and the being appeared close to her, making her have bumps all over. She dared not look at it directly, but found herself only doing as the voice commanded, and sang the tunes it ordered her to sing.
But not that night! She was was more afraid of the tĂ´rments, than what ever the being could do to her.Tracy continued to look, her mind made up to accost the being and find out why it had chosen to trouble her.
She cloud of smoke formed the shape of a very pretty young girl, and while Tracy was still watching, the head of the pretty girl began to get distorted, until a different face entirely replaced the pretty face she had seen before.
A howling sound began to come from different parts of her room, while the image before her began to move it’s hands and body in what seemed like a dance, and it’s face changing every second, until a hidèous face stayed on.
Tracy tried to screám, but her throat was dry. She tried to move, but it seemed her entire body had been stuck to the bed, and she could only look on helplessly as the head of the girl in front of her, now covered with dried blōõd and appearing to have been terribly smashed moved closer to her.
“Sing!” The voice ordered, but Tracy was unable to speak, just looking morosely. Uloma must have been offended by Tracy’s defiance, and tried to hit her, but her bloöd dripping hand moved across Tracy, without much as touching her.
Tracy was shocked to see that see that even though she was unable to move, the angry spirit couldn’t even hurt her, and this got her bolder.
“Why are you so Ă ngry? Shouldn’t I be the Ă ngry none? You have been messing with me, for no reasons, and you still dare try to hit me?
“Well, I’m sorry for your because starting now, you won’t ever order me around again. And just so you know, after losing Bruce because of you, I don’t really care what you can do any longer
“Stay here all night if you wish, but you won’t make me take your orders again, and be informed that Tracy isn’t afraid of you any longer. You have taken all that you can take from me, and there’s nothing more to feĂ r” Tracy said, and put her head down to sleep again but she was soon getting thrown on the floor as a sudden strong wind began to move in her room, shattering and crashing things in her room.
“Uloma hasn’t come here to play with you, offspring of the sacrilegious generation. She is here to take vengeance, and vengeance she will get. Vengeance! Vengeance!! Vengeance!!!” The voice began to echo loudly, making Tracy’s ears cringe and her heart beat father than normal, as sparks of lights and fire continued to sparkle in different parts of her room.
Tracy tried to look up again, and saw Uloma’s head, rolling on the ground, while she chased after it to pick it up, as she told the tales of how she got beheaded, and she made a loud yelp, before she passed out
