Ozonge rolled off Tracy and lay almost lifeless by her sides, blood oozing from his head and his hands flung in different directions.
Tracy couldn’t turn her head to see what was wrong with him, but she could hear the blood spurting out of him, like a pressure water tap.
“No, don’t! Please Bruce don’t touch him again. Leave this place at once. That man is dangerous, and the things working in him are very dark.
“Something bad will happen to you if the owl that watches over this shrine gets a hold of you.
“He said the owl has the ability to attàck and kïll anyone who gets physical with him. Please my love, if you are one bit about how I feel, about don’t let me have to watch that demonic bird tear you apart” Tracy told Bruce in panic.
And just as if the owl was summoned by Tracy’s words, it flew into the shrine, àggressively charging at Bruce who had just dropped the stick he was aiming at the chief priest, before Tracy begged him to leave the man alone.
“We’ve got to go Tracy. Get up and quit being silly. How can you believe the crap about an ordinary bird kïlling a full grown man like me? Why are you lying still?” Bruce screàmed at her, dodging the attàcks of the owl.
The chief priest’s head continued to spray blōõd like an electric spraying can, and his body lay still, looking like he was deåd already.
“And what do you mean by asking me to leave here? If the owl was so watchful, how come it didn’t see me come in?
“Get up Tracy, I don’t want this thing attàcking you. But why aren’t you even moving at all?” Bruce asked, perplexed that she remained immobile, while she asked him to leave the shrine.
He hit the owl down before, and was hoping it’d stay long enough on the ground to enable him make his move, but Tracy wasn’t moving, and was too preoccupied with asking him to leave the shrine, to answer his questions.
The owl attãcked again, digging it’s peak into Bruce’s back, causing a large chunk of his flesh to fall off.
Blōõd began to spurt from his back, making him groan in pain, yet he tried to keep a brave disposition.
He tried to ward it off, but the owl seemed to have been trained to know when to attack and how to attack him.
Bruce couldn’t understand how a bird as small as the owl he was confronted with, had the ability to make him so defeàted.
He was bleeding from different parts of his body, and he was fast losing strength.
The owl was having the upper hand because no matter what Bruce did to it, the owl remained unhurt, and even managed to look more energetic and furious after each hit Bruce gave it.
It’s wings surprisingly were too powerful, making it able to blow Bruce down when it flapped and charged at him.
Bruce was running out of strength, and the more he tried to out run the owl, the more he lost strength.
Tracy continued to screám, imploring him to run away, but Bruce was telling her that she was the reason he was going to dië, because she had refused to get up.
The owl attãcked again, this time, aiming for his throat. Bruce was already very weak, and didn’t wish to fight again, but when he saw the owl’s claw so close to his throat, his left hand moved involuntarily, striking the owl down.
The owl’s claws tore deeply into his hand, peeling out a large portion of his skin.
In a moment of pain and ãnger, Bruce’s hand pulled the closest object to him, the chief priest’s staff and aimed at the attàcking owl, that was closing in on him again.
The sharp and pointed end of the rod in his hand, met the owl’s head, and drove straight in.
Bruce got up with the last ounce of strength in him, and pushed the rod all the way, pinning the owl to the ground.
He looked at the rod again, wondering if there was some extra powers attached to the rod, wondering how the rod could do so much to the owl, when it had defied everything else he had tried to use.
As soon as Bruce pulled the rid from the ground, Tracy jumped up and out of the mat, screàming at Bruce for risking his life so bãdly.
“See what you’ve done to yourself now Bruce! See blood all over your body” Tracy lamented, tearing up completely.
The chief priest began to stir, his fingers twitching and the corner of his lips began to quiver, and Tracy looked at Bruce in worry.
“Let’s go baby” Bruce said, getting up again. But Tracy was confused on what to do. She feared that Bruce could get killêd by some forces for attacking the chief priest.
“She knew it was her last chance of leaving the shrine in tact, but she was afraid of what could happen if she left the shrine before she found a way to pacify the deàdly Ozonge not to kïll Bruce.
“The chief priest had told when that she had an exact number of days, within which she must get deflowered after beginning the ritual, and a part of her was afraid of what could happen if she walked out of the shrine like Bruce was suggesting, but she was more afraid of any hàrm befalling Bruce because her.
“What if something bad happens to you for being the one who got me out of this place?” she asked Bruce.
But Bruce wasn’t in the mood to talk. He could see the chief priest moving his hands, and he knew the man would be fully conscious shortly, so he didn’t have the time to debate with Tracy.
He bent down, picked Tracy up and began to make his way out of the shrine.
As soon as they stepped out of the shrine, Tracy realized that she needed to work with him if they were going to make it out of the forest, because she could tell that they’d move faster if she was running besides him, rather than slowing him down with her weight.
The chief priest regained consciousness and noticed that Tracy was out of his reach already and began to panic.
He sat down to think of what could have happened and couldn’t place his hands on where things went wrong.
The sacred owl was deåd, pinned to the ground with his staff, and he could see that it had fought really hard before it dīed.
“Who dared come to the sacred Ozonge shrine? Was that a mortal or a spirit? Where did that being get the guts to attàck me?
“The sacred owl is deåd, and even had to dië by a strike with my staff. Who could have been bold enough to enter the shrine while the ritual was meant to be ongoing, and still had the temerity to attàck not just me, but the sacred owl?
“Could this have been done by the wïtch doctor from our neighbouring community? It has to be him!
“I don’t think there’s anyone else who’d be bold enough to approach this shrine when I haven’t sounded the concluding gong.
“It has to be Tafeko. No one else would have dared make such move. I will surely deal with him.
“I can’t let him bring tribulations upon my son. I know he must have known about the rituals, and just because I made his wife run after me, after I used the love portion on her, to keep her here in my shrine for a few days, he is out to take his pound of flesh.
“I’ll make him know the stuff I am made of. There’s no way he would lay her in the forest.
“He will surely want to take her to his shrine, and ravage her there in revenge, but he doesn’t know that this is very different.
“He can take another wife if he likes to leave had wife just because I kept her to warm my bed for those number of days
“But I can’t get another Tracy because that girl must conceive another girl to take on the curse, and save my son from having issues tomorrow.
”Gods of my fathers, please do not let Tafeko deflower that girl before I reach his shrine.

He picked up his staff, put his talisman round his waist, made some incantations and dramatic dances, then he was getting out of his shrine, moving out with his back first.
Meanwhile, Tracy asked Bruce to put her down, telling him how ready she was to run away with him.
She realized that if all the chief priest said were true, then she was already in trouble for stepping out if the mat before she got deflowered.

They continued to search for ways to exit the forest, but like Bruce, Tracy couldn’t understand why they kept moving in circles, always finding themselves in a spot they have left after hours.
