She dialled his line for the third time, but itâs still the same, heâs not picking.
âFrancesca, we need to leave now, whoâre you waiting for?â The driver asked.
âYou wonât understandâ she replied sadly and dialled Maxwellâs line again, biting her lip repeatedly, but heâs still not picking.

SKYLINE CORPORATIONS
Only the sound of Maxwellâs clicking buttons could be heard as he worked on the last file with red eyes.
Heâs the only one left in the office, and he hasnât checked his phone since he started. He silenced it totally.
He yawned tiredly and checked the time. Itâs past 10pm, and he hasnât even had breakfast nor lunch or dinner.
He quickly finished up by pressing few more buttons, and he shut down the laptop.
He stood but fell back on the chair weakly, then his stomach made weird hunger noises as he stood again.
âFkâ he muttered, getting his suit from where he hung it.
The night air is chilly, seems itâs gonna rain.
He was holding his stomach with an hand as he walked out of the company, and he got a mail on his phone immediately. Itâs from Jemima.
GET ME A CHOCOLATE CAKE, BRING IT TO ME BEFORE LEAVING
He sighed after reading it, then he stopped a taxi which took him to the nearest cake shop.
It was already raining before he got there, but nevertheless, he entered the rain and rushed into the shop.
He got the chocolate cake and came out into the rain again.
He was about to cross the road to the other side when a car drove roughly into the road, startling him.
His eyes were wide as he tried to avoid it, but he could only do little. He got h?t, and he fell in the middle of the road, landing in the rainwater.
âArggh!!â A loud groan left him as his skin peeled.
The cake fell from him, but thanks to the tight packaging, it remained good.
He hurt his forehead slightly, and the bI.ood began dripping down his white shirt.
His elbows and knees got hurt too, and his right arm.
Within a minute, passerbys surrounded him.
?? Are you ok?
?? Letâs get you to the hospital

TWENTY MINUTES LATER~ JEMIMAâS MANSION
A taxi stopped in front of the house, and Maxwell came out, still stained with his own bI.ood, and his wounds are still fresh.
The rain was still pouring as he limped to the door with the cake.
He rang the doorbell, and it was Dolores who opened the door.
âOh my gawd!!!â She screamed frightfully.
âWhatâs up?â Jemima asked as she descended the stairs.
Dolores stepped aside, and she came to the door.
Her eyes widened immediately she saw him, wet as fk from the rain, bI.ood still dripping out of his wounds into his white shirt, especially the one on his forehead.
âMaxwell! What the hâll haâŠ
He interrupted by dropping the cake on the ground, and he faced her with a painful smile.
âI quitâ he muttered and started leaving, stepping back into the rain.
âMaxwell!â Jemima rushed after him, stepping into the rain too to block him.
âMaxwellâŠ
âI said I quit! Didnât you hear me? Iâm not worthy to be the secretary of the great Jemima Andrade-Kings.
I forged my CV? I didnât go to college? Gawd⊠Did you have fun toying with me? You had fun messing with me obviously, Iâve always done my best for you throughout the three days Iâve spent as your secretary, and I was willing to do more just to make sure you donât find fault, but what? Iâm nothing?
You made me work last night and I even slept in the office only for you to call it trash, and then today I stayed till 10pm working my @ss off only for you to demand for cake when I finished working, are you even human?
I was thinking youâd consider me worthy if I continued doing all what you wanted, but now itâs clear that youâre the one whoâs not worth me, youâre the absolute worse, Jemimaâ he said, pouring out all his emotions as the rain continued pouring.
Jemima was looking so guilty when he finally said it all, and he swiftly turned to leave, but she grabbed his arm again.
âMaxwell IâŠ
He shook her off, and she fell on the ground heavilyâŠ
âDonât touch me, donât try itâŠâ He muttered hatefully.
