Clara was lying on her king-sized bed laughing heartily while chatting with her lover of six months, she had fallen in love with Mike after three months of being friends with him. They had met in a bank when they both went to carry out different transactions, Mike needed a pen which Clara gave to him but unfortunately, he misplaced it. In a nutshell, the missing pen brought the duo together.

Clara was still at the same spot when she heard her mom scream her name, it was at that point she remembered that she was cooking ogbono soup. At that instant, she could perceive that the soup was burning, fear gripped her heart as she imagined her mom lashing her with words since that was her mom’s favorite soup and she had chosen to do the cooking just to appease her mom.

Clara had told her mom about Mike a few weeks after they began to date, her mom was indeed happy as she had been expecting her daughter to bring a man home. Based on her mom’s instruction, Clara invited Mike to her home and after a discussion with him, Her mom told her that Mike wasn’t someone she could get married to. Clara was surprised to hear that from her mom because she blended so well with Mike that she was beginning to feel Mike had won her mother’s heart.

Her mom further asked her to break her relationship with Mike and concentrate on praying to God for her own man but Clara was unable to break up with him as she was already in love with him. This action of hers caused a strain on the relationship between mother and daughter.

Mrs. Chika: You just burned my soup, you were chatting with him right?

Clara: But mom, this is about me and not him. Just face me.

Mrs. Chika: Why can’t you see that you are not meant to be his wife? The signs are boldly written on the wall, open your eyes and see things.

Clara: Mom, you didn’t give me a tangible reason to break up with him. This guy loves and cherishes me with everything in him, what will be my excuse for breaking up with him?

Mrs. Chika: You think love is all you need to sustain a home, Clara?

Clara: Mom, don’t get me wrong.

Mrs. Chika: Clara, I do not want a bad marriage for you. Listen, I have suffered enough to train you, I do not want to be hearing bad news after your marriage. Mike isn’t the one for you, I just hope you will allow God to open your eyes to what you need to know, you are saying all these because you are madly in love with him.

Clara: Can we stop this already, Mom?

Mrs. Chika: That marriage will not happen, I won’t open my eyes and watch you go into a wrong marriage. Tell him that I won’t give my permission. I am not accepting his bride price and I will make sure your uncles do not.

Clara: (in tears) Why are you doing this, Mom? His parent accepted me already and I am happy with him, Mike is the best thing that happened to me after my encounter with Christ. Mom, please, don’t do this.

Mrs. Chika: My decision is final. I am informing your Uncles today. Mind you, tell Mike to return the dowry list given to him.

Clara burst into tears the moment her mother left her room, She was tired of having to fight her mom almost every day over the issue of Mike, She was so certain that God was in support of their relationship and to think she had over five revelations to back up her conviction, all of which she shared with her mother but the woman was having none of it.

Clara and her mom used to have a beautiful relationship until Mike came into the picture, she had been her mother’s husband after her father passed away four years ago. He had been very sick and despite that a lot of money was spent on him, he still didn’t make it out of the hospital alive. Being a loving father and husband, Clara and her mom felt his absence, it was at that point that they became inseparable.

Clara wiped away and tears and went to take her bath, She and Mike had been attending a premarital class and today, the host informed them that a woman would be coming to speak to them. Clara hoped she would be able to share her predicament with the host with the mind that prayers could be made to change her mom’s heart.
