Belén San Román’s tragic video shows her desperation before her death, deeply moving her family and the entire community.
It has been almost four years since the death of Belén San Román , the young policewoman who decided to take her own life after an intimate video of her went viral in Bragado, Argentina. The material was spread by a man with whom she was in a relationship. It has been announced that the trial will begin on December 2, 2027.
Marcelo, Belén’s father, expressed to the TN portal his hope that the judges will rise to the occasion. He also asked that this case set an important precedent in the history of Argentine justice, highlighting the seriousness of the matter.
As for the accused, Tobias Villarruel, San Roman stressed that he will be arrested for the trial. Villarruel, who was already in prison for robbery when he began his relationship with Belén on social media, was released last year, but was arrested again the following month for another crime.
Tragic end for Belén San Román, after leaked video
On November 30, 2020, Belén San Román sent a message to her boss at the Rural Prevention Command apologizing for what she was about to do. She also left a letter in which she apologized to her children and family before shooting herself in the head.
Her companions, alerted by the message, quickly went to her home in a patrol car. However, they could not prevent the tragedy; they heard the shot from the street and rushed her to the San Luis municipal hospital, where she died after four days of agony.
“ I never thought my daughter would take her own life. I can’t understand it ,” her father told the media at the time. The tragedy deeply impacted his family and colleagues.

A relationship on social media that ended in betrayal
Belén worked at the Bragado Rural Patrol Command, while Tobías Villarruel had already been in prison for two years for robbing a bakery. They met through social media, and although her entourage did not look favorably on the relationship, she decided to trust him and give him a chance.
However, they never met in person. They had a few virtual encounters before Belén decided to end the relationship. That’s when her nightmare began. Villarruel recorded a video call without her consent and used those images to extort her after the breakup.
From that moment on, Villarruel began to harass and threaten her, demanding money from her to stop the intimate video from being released. San Román, Belén’s father, said in an interview that his daughter did everything possible to stop him, even selling her car, but was unable to prevent the release of the material.
