Madden smirked, but the smirk turned to a proud smile almost immediately.

The shooter… It was Adeline!

Stravinsky’s body went still, and his eyes stayed wide as he slowly fell, his body landing on the ground heavily.

His shot head began bleeding, and the blood soaked the black tiles, making a huge mess.

Igor’s hand went down, shock still apparent in his wide eyes as he stared at Adeline.

As for Adeline, her hand with the gun is back to her side, and her shocked eyes are on Stravinsky’s body on the ground, still unable to believe that he just killed a person.

“You bloody bastard!!!” Igor growled angrily and began rushing to her.

Adeline quickly looked at Madden, and what she saw in his eyes made her turn back to Igor.

“I only did what my boss could have done. It’s not my fault” she said, and Igor stopped.

“Did you just fuçking speak? Do you know where you are? Guards aren’t supposed to even breath whenever they follow their master in here, but you killed a top member and now you’re talking back?” He barked and continued his angry walk to her.

A little before he’d arrive at her face, Madden spoke up…

“Two steps to the right, Micheal” he said, and Adeline quickly took two steps away.

Madden stepped into the space, so he’s facing Igor instead.

“What exactly are you planning? You’re not only strengthening yourself but you’re giving wings to your new trainee? You do not own this clan so stop behaving like you do!!!” Igor yelled at his face.

The remaining four top members began getting back their voices too, talking one by one.

“It would have been better if you killed Stravinsky yourself. Letting a trainee kill the most important member of the top 5 is absurd and disrespectful” the first one said.

“Who the hell is the guard anyways? What’s his identity and how is he so bold to off a top member?” The second one said.

“Remember you need our votes when The Pakhan dies. Tell me how we’d vote for you when your trainee is like this” the third one said.

“You might be stronger, but I think Igor deserves to be the next Pakhan. At least, he’s not disrespectful to the rules. Igor has my future vote, and whoever will be replacing Stravinsky is surely voting for Igor too, so get your mind off that position, Death” the fourth one said.

Igor’s eyes scanned the room, and though Erik and Klara aren’t saying anything, the speech from the four members is enough to give him hope.

Maybe Micheal killing Stravinsky is not bad after all. He got the pity of the four anyways, and it seems like he won them to his side without trying.

A small smile crept to his lips, but it disappeared when Madden spoke up…

“Let’s see about that when the future comes. Father is still alive and well, so there’s still enough time for y’all to take back your words” Madden said, his hoarse voice infused with gravity, and the four went silent.

“Was planning to send his body to his family, but i changed my mind. He’s getting eaten by the dogs” Madden continued, and the four gasped.

“Death!”

“Madden are you insane?” Igor took a step forward,, but before he could get closer, Adeline blocked him.

Igor grabbed Adeline roughly by the shoulder, but she wriggled skillfully out of his hold, staggering before covering Madden more.

“Who the hell do you think you are!!” Igor growled, his anger going over the top this time.

“You’re not allowed to come closer to my master” Adeline replied, and Madden smirked proudly, inserting his right hand into his pocket.

He retrieved his phone and texted the girls.

Jinx and Poe came in, and they carried Stravinsky’s body away, leaving the rest in awe.

“Now listen, everyone. This happens to everyone who thinks they can plan havoc against the clan and get away with it. I will kill whoever it is, and I’ll enjoy doing it. Spread the news to the whole underworld. The time has changed, and I don’t give a fûck who you are. You mess with the Orlovs, you’re fuçking dead” Madden said.

Tension coiled around his words like a snake, and the room became a pressure cooker, his speech the heat.

For over a minute, everyone seemed too flummoxed to talk.

“This meeting is over” Erik finally spoke, standing to his feet.

He gave Adeline a quick glare before leaving the room, then Klara stood and smiled slightly at Adeline before following him.

The four members exited too, all dishing vengeful looks Adeline till they went out the door.

Igor literally stormed out, his shoes threatening to uproot the ground at how angrily he’s marching.

Andrei followed him, leaving just Adeline and Madden in the room.

Adeline released a soft breath, returning her gun to her holster slowly.

“I never told you to become my bodyguard, Micheal. I brought you in here as my trainee, and you did what you were supposed to do by offing Stravinsky, but covering me from Igor?” Madden said.

“It’s the need to protect you, don’t scold me for it. You’re my master anyways, and I can be your bodyguard when the need shows up” she replied easily, and he raised his hand to her chin, lifting it up slowly so their eyes met.

“You’re more intriguing than I think, Micheal” he said, his eyes hinting at a different expression which made her head snap.

Corey.

Corey once looked at her that way too, and right now that she’s seeing that same expression in his eyes, she can’t help but hate it.

Her chin tightened, and she stepped back, slipping away from his hold.

She cleared her throat.

“We should… leave”

Madden dropped his hand, deciding to overlook her blunt reaction.

“Get someone to clean the blood on the ground” he said.

“Sure, master” she replied, and he walked out immediately, leaving her in the room.

Adeline let out a loud exhale, looking at her gun and remembering the moment she pulled the trigger on Stravinsky.

No doubt, that moment will be engraved in her head forever.

“Micheal!” Jinx rushed in, and she turned around.

“Jinx” she slightly smiled, and Jinx gathered her in a hug which she quickly broke.

“Man, you killed Stravinsky? Gawd damn it! I’m so fuçking proud of you! I can’t believe this!” Jinx gushed, her eyes shinning with awe.

“It was instinct” Adeline shrugged, and she was surprised at her nonchalance about it.

She expected herself to tear up after her first kill, but the fact that she’s not feeling guilty about it is shocking.

Maybe she’s more prepared for this than she thought.

“I knew Death wasn’t wrong when he took you in. I love you more!” Jinx excitedly said again.

“But I heard the four other members saying something about votes. Isn’t the Pakhan supposed to hand over the office to whoever he wants before his death? Why the votes?” Adeline asked.

“Oh… The votes is necessary. This is like politics since Igor and Death are interested. The five top members need to vote plus the Pakhan himself, but whoever gets the Pakhan’s vote has more chance to take over his position” Jinx explained.

“And why is that?” Adeline asked.

“Why else? He’s the leader, and his vote is equivalent to three people’s” Jinx replied.

“So master needs to get his father’s vote to become the future Pakhan? That shouldn’t be a problem, right? According to Loud, he likes master more than Igor” Adeline said, and Jinx shook her head.

“You know nothing about how this world works do you? Those who smile at you are probably your greatest enemy, just like Stravinsky. You should be careful, don’t believe smiles” Jinx said, and Adeline nodded.

“Thanks for the advice”

Jinx smiled, and they left the house together.

“Where’s Poe by the way?” She asked.

“She has been acting salty since yesterday, don’t know why” Jinx replied.

Loud and Nikolai immediately appeared.

Before Adeline could react, Loud picked her up and threw her over his shoulder, jumping around with her.

“Loud! Loud!!!” She cackled, but he kept swinging her around, and he didn’t drop her till he was satisfied.

“I could make you a temple and worship you right now man! You killed Stravinsky as your first? Trust me it’s the first time in history and you’re a friggin legend!” He gushed like a fan girl, and Adeline grinned.

“Thank you”

“Congratulations on joining the top monsters gang” Nikolai said, and her eyes widened.

“Seriously? I’m in?”

“Of course! I told you you only have to impress any of the Orlovs. You obviously impressed Death, and you’ll be added to the grounp chat in no time, trust me” Loud replied, and Adeline folded her fist in ecstasy.

“Yes!”

“And like I said, you’re going on the next mission with us” Jinx said.

“I’m all ready” Adeline replied confidently, and Loud hung his arm on her neck.

“Follow! We have a dinner to attend” he said.

Before Adeline could ask what dinner, he already pulled her away.

Jinx and Nikolai followed, and after they left, Madden’s face came to view from the power house.

He’s in front of the building, his shadow tall under the orange lights, and his eyes a different shade of dark as he watched Adeline.

Loud’s arm on her shoulder is the first thing that got his attention, and his eyes shadowed.

Should he just cut off Loud’s arm and feed it to the dogs? Or maybe grind it and feed it to Loud himself.

The fact that Loud is unaware of her real gender is not his problem. His hand on her is bullshit, but he decided to let that go for now.

His eyes slid to Adeline herself, and right now he’s more interested in why she’s learning so fast.

Why her morale is so high and why she’s so determined to impress everyone.

Why exactly did she take the risk to come into this clan as a man?

It’s high time he finds out.

Adeline suddenly looked back, and immediately their eyes met, Madden turned around and entered the power house.

Adeline slowed down, looking at the power house intently.

“Michael!” Loud called from the front. They’ve left her behind.

“Sorry!” She replied, rushing to catch up.

IGOR’S SUITE*

Igor carried the center table and smashed it on the wall, breaking it to bits before letting out a pained scream.

His head was bubbling, and all the goddamn vein in his neck are out right now as he released heavy breaths, ripping off his own shirt and throwing it away.

He went to the cellar and got a bottle of beer, opening it with a pop and pouring everything on his head, messing up the ground even more.

He screamed out again, feeling so pained than ever.

Why is Madden always having the last speech?

Why does he have the right words for the right occasion?

Why always him!!!

He was still venting when Andrei came in, and he immediately grabbed him by the collar.

“I took you to the meeting only because I knew you were smart! Why couldn’t you figure out Madden’s body language? You couldn’t do it but that bastard Micheal did it? He shot faster than me? Why!!!” He yelled.

“If you as his brother can’t understand his body language, how do you expect me to get it? Madden is not easy to read and you know it. He has no weakness” Andrei replied, and Igor leg go of him, diving his fingers into his hair.

He started imagining how the mobsters would ridicule him behind his back, and that single imagination made him nearly run mad.

“I think you should ask about his body languages from the rest of your siblings in case of another time” Andrei spoke up.

“They might all like him, but that bastard has always been difficult. I’m sure none of them understand him too. When we were young, I spent more time with father, Maya spent more time in her room, shutting herself away from the world, then Trixie and Sin spent time with each other…” Igor said.

“And Death?” Andrei asked.

“The basement… That bastard spent his childhood in that devilish basement, and mother was with him most of the times. If anyone should understand him most, it should be mother, but guess what? She knows nothing too.. I told you he’s sick in the head!” Igor shouted.

“You might never know. I’ll try my best” Andrei said.

“What do you mean?” Igor faced him.

“I’ll be back at midnight” Andrei replied, leaving the suite and leaving Igor in confusion.
