An elderly white woman boarded a plane, and right on time, the flight departed. As she was watching a movie on her seatback TV screen, she felt drowsy and fell asleep. When she woke up, she realized that the black lady in front of her had draped her hair over her TV screen. The white woman became so aggravated that she pulled out a little scissors from her purse and started chopping off the lady’s hair.
Shortly after the plane landed, the black lady noticed that much of her hair had been chopped off. She went straight to the elderly woman behind her during the flight.
“Ma’am, what happened to my hair?” she said politely.
But the elderly woman replied discourteously.
“Your hair was blocking my screen, so I chopped it off. It’s quite simple”
The black lady was taken aback by the rudeness of the white woman, and said.
“But… If my hair was obstructing your view, you should have just asked me to move it away”
The elderly woman scoffed.
“Well, I am not considerate to people like you. And do I need to remind you that you’ve got a very disgusting and annoying hair? Draping it across my face was something I just couldn’t tolerate”
The black lady clammed up. She covered her head with a scarf and walked away.
Just then, something traumatic happened. The elderly woman suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest and slumped. She was rushed to the hospital shortly.
When she regained consciousness in the hospital bed, surprisingly, she saw the black lady she met on the plane, dressed in white coat.
“What are you doing here?” her voice quavered.
The black lady replied.
“I’m your doctor ma’am… You collapse at the airport due to a cardiac arrest. I immediately performed CPR before the ambulance arrived and brought you to my hospital…”
The elderly woman was dumbstruck. She couldn’t control her emotions, and with tears in eyes, she said.
“I won’t ask for forgiveness, but your whole hair… How much does it cost?”
The black lady smiled, then said.
“Oh, don’t bother. It wasn’t my real hair anyways…”
Moral Of The Story:
Treat everyone with respect, dignity and kindness regardless of their race, sex, social status, disability, religion or anything else. Kindness is the most important tool to spread love among humanity. But rudeness is like a blocked drainage pipe that will only hamper our productivity, our happiness and our health along the way.
