Alejandro stood with his back to the window, lost in thought, when a knock on the door broke his reverie. Diego entered, carrying a stack of files, which he placed on the desk.

“Boss, I found these new resignation letters in the secretary’s office, including one from the secretary herself,” Diego said, laying the letters down.

Alejandro didn’t turn around but smirked faintly—a cold, humorless expression.

“And yours? When are you planning to hand it in?” he asked, his tone eerily calm.

Diego froze. “What? Boss, it’s me. You’ve done so much for me. Even if everyone else leaves, I’ll stay by your side.”

Alejandro finally turned, his piercing gaze fixed on Diego. “You’re right, Diego. I’ve done a lot for you,” he said thoughtfully, as if speaking to himself.

    Diego shifted uncomfortably but nodded.

“Tell me,” Alejandro continued, taking slow, deliberate steps toward him. “Did you happen to attend acting school and forget to include it on your résumé?”

    “What?” Diego asked, visibly confused.

Alejandro’s movements were measured but predatory, forcing Diego to step back. The fear he’d been suppressing began to surface.

“It’s strange, really. Everything that’s happened—right under my nose—it’s all starting to make sense now,” Alejandro said, stopping beside Diego, who clenched his fists nervously.

“How long?” Alejandro asked, his voice dangerously low.

“How long… what?” Diego stammered, his throat dry.

Alejandro smirked, leaning forward until their faces were mere inches apart. His expression was terrifyingly calm, sending chills down Diego’s spine.

“Tell me where Camila is, Diego,” Alejandro demanded, his voice icy.

“I—I don’t know,” Diego stuttered, shaking his head.

In an instant, Alejandro’s hand shot out, gripping Diego’s throat. Diego gasped for air as his face turned red, his eyes welling with tears.

“Tell me where Camila is,” Alejandro snarled. “Start talking, or you’ll regret it.”

    RAFAEL’S HIDEOUT***

Camila was fast asleep when a group of men burst into the room. Roughly, they grabbed her, jolting her awake.

“Let me go! Where are you taking me?” she screamed, struggling against their hold.

“Stay still, woman!” one of the men barked, lifting her off the ground. “We’re moving you out of here.”

“Let me go! Let me go!” Camila shouted, thrashing wildly.

Her resistance infuriated one of the men, who delivered a harsh punch to her face. Her vision blurred, and she collapsed into unconsciousness.

“Boss said we’re not supposed to hurt her! You’re dead when he finds out,” another man scolded as they stared at Camila’s limp body on the floor.

NEXT DAY, RUIZ ROYAL ESTATE ★

    👥 Good morning, Mr. Ruiz!

    👥 Welcome, Mr. Ruiz!

👥 Hope you had a wonderful night, Mr. Ruiz!

Alejandro arrived at the company without Camila. Her cramps had worsened, so he left her at home with the maids to look after her.

“Good morning, boss,” Diego greeted, taking Alejandro’s briefcase and instructing an employee to deliver it to the office.

“The members are waiting in the boardroom. You’re late for the first time. I hope everything is alright at home?” Diego asked worriedly as they walked to the meeting room.

About ten wealthy-looking clients were seated, each with a bottle of water on their desks, waiting for Alejandro to arrive.

“My apologies for being late today. My wife is not in the best of health,” he said casually, taking his seat at the head of the table.

“We hope she gets better soon, Mr. Alejandro. Your wife is such a beauty to fall ill,” a male client commented, earning a glare from Alejandro.

“You don’t seem serious about this meeting, Mr. William. Perhaps I should have security escort you out,” Alejandro said sternly.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Ruiz,” William apologized.

Alejandro waited calmly for his anger to subside before starting the meeting.

“For some time now, we have been working on a 10-star hotel here at Ruiz Royal Estate. Many exclusive building plans and other valuable resources have been offered, and I’m pleased to share that the work has commenced. Next week, we will all take a tour to observe the progress,” Alejandro announced.

The board members applauded in agreement.

“We are still open to suggestions. Anyone willing to add or provide more information is welcome,” Diego said, and some board members began sharing their contributions.

A few minutes later, the meeting concluded, and the members dispersed to their respective units. Alejandro didn’t go to his office; instead, he walked with Diego to the electronics factory to check on progress.

“Mr. Ruiz, it’s good to see you again,” a man in work gear greeted Alejandro. He nodded at a worker beside him, who immediately ran inside and returned with two safety jackets, goggles, and earplugs, handing them respectfully to Alejandro and Diego.

Alejandro donned the gear before entering the factory. The noise from the machines made communication difficult, hence the earplugs and mouth speakers.

“These are the new machines that were shipped in yesterday. Some are undergoing testing by the workers, but these here are reliable. We will transport them to the building tomorrow,” Jeremy said confidently.

“I hope I can trust you. This is a very important project, and I want it kept exclusive until we are ready to launch,” Alejandro ordered.

“Yes, Mr. Ruiz,” Jeremy nodded respectfully.

Alejandro looked around a bit more before walking away with Diego. Jeremy addressed the workers.

“You heard Mr. Ruiz; he wants everything perfect,” he announced, his eyes falling on a male worker who passed by with some tools, accidentally dropping some screwdrivers.

“Rosalie, do you really have to be clumsy every time?” he scolded.

“I’m sorry, boss,” she quickly apologized, picking up everything she had dropped.

    BRIARWOOD SCHOOL ★

The students were gathered in the hall as the principal stood at the podium, making an important announcement.

“Firstly, before I proceed to why we are here, I want everyone to know that getting into Briarwood is an honor. Whatever your status is, your future is already bright,” Principal Laurel said, and the students clapped.

Isabella was sitting at the back, watching her friends laugh with Valeria, all sitting in her spot. She couldn’t fight it anymore; she felt there was no need to fight for anything.

“So, as we all know, this is our final year, and the school will be assigning different posts to outstanding students. The female vice president position goes to Abby Morgan,” Principal Laurel announced, and the students clapped as Abby made her way to the stage to accept her badge.

“Bitch,” Isabella muttered, crossing her legs angrily.

“And the male vice president position goes to Tyler Bassett.”

The students clapped as a well-dressed male student made his way to the podium to accept his badge.

“The female school president position goes to Valeria Ruiz!”

Valeria proudly stood up, walking majestically to the podium to accept her badge. She stood in front of the mic and cleared her throat, the applause growing louder at her mere presence.

“Thank you is not enough to express my gratitude for your support. I have just joined Briarwood, and I feel so welcomed. You even went as far as voting for me as not just your chair captain, but school president,” she said sweetly.

Isabella couldn’t help but roll her eyes. No matter how sweet Valeria’s voice was, she could still see the cunning beneath her façade.

Her eyes found Isabella’s, and she smirked. “You all really make me feel like the queen of Briarwood.”

👥 You are our queen, Valeria!

👥 If not you, then who else!

    👥 You’re an icon, Valeria!

    👥 We love you!

The students chanted for her, but her eyes never left Isabella, giving her a taunting look. Isabella clenched her fists, the next words she heard were Valeria’s.

“I can be the queen if I want to, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Isabella ran out of the hall in anger and embarrassment.

The male school president was next to accept his badge, but it didn’t matter anymore.
