👩‍❤️‍👨 My Ex My Lover EPISODE EIGHTEEN: 💞❣️

    Kate POV 💋

I took a sip of my gin and tonic and tried to focus on what Hal was saying. It was too loud in the bar but that was not the reason why I wasn’t able to concentrate. My mind was on the man I had seen earlier that day. If he was the same man, which I was damn sure about, then what was he doing here? Even as I asked myself that question I already knew the answer to that. He was following Jason. The attack in Bali was not a random incident. Someone was after him.

Before coming to the club, I had called Jason and told him about what I saw. He told me not to worry and that he was looking into it.

Hal picked me up tonight and on the way here I got the feeling that a car was following us. A black Bentley was trailing behind a couple of cars, every time I checked from the side view mirror. I didn’t tell Hal because I had a feeling my mind was playing a trick on me.

“Is everything okay with Peter now?” I snapped out of my thought in time to hear Hal’s question.

“I don’t know. He calls me every night but he says he still isn’t ready to see me.”

“So nothing happened between you and Jason after that?” Hal asked taking my hand and giving it a squeeze. I had a feeling he already knew the answer to that.

I told him all about the last time in Jason’s suite. “I’m actually glad he didn’t kiss me. I should be thanking him for preventing me from making a mistake again.”

Hal was silent for a moment. “Do you have feelings for him?”

“I don’t know what I feel anymore.” I said helplessly.

“I think you should follow your heart.”

“At this point my heart is more confused than my head. I’m definitely attracted to Jason and it’s been driving me crazy. I can’t stop thinking about him.” I groaned and leaned against Hal, putting my head on his shoulder. “I’m not me anymore, Hal.”

“What about Peter? Do you still love him?” Hal put his arm around me, giving me a squeeze.

“That’s the problem. I’m not sure anymore. If I truly loved him I wouldn’t be thinking of Jason this way. What should I do?”

“I think you should take a break. A break from everything and go somewhere and figure out what you want. Talk to Peter and tell him that you need time.”

“What if he doesn’t agree to it?” I asked easing away from Hal and taking a sip of my drink.

“Darling, this is your life. Don’t let anyone hold you back. I know you planned your future with Peter but things don’t always work out the way we hope. May be Jason came into your life for a reason.”

“To disrupt my life and turn me into a woman with no morals?”

Hal chuckled. “Not exactly what I had in mind. Promise me you will talk to Peter tonight.”

I nodded. “I will. I haven’t even told him that I’m going to Palm Beach with Jason. We are probably going to have another fight tonight.”

“Shots for everyone!” Andy announced coming up behind us and placing a tray of shot glasses on the table. Hal let out a cheer and reached for one.

“Oh, I’m not so sure.” I protested. “I have to get up at 6 tomorrow morning.”

“Just one shot.” Andy gave me a lopsided smile and took a glass and handed it to me.

“Well, alright.” I said trying to get in the spirit of things. “Let’s do this.”

We clinked glasses and downed our drinks. I screwed my eyes as the tequila scorched my throat. “God, that felt good.”
“Alcohol therapy is always good. One more?” Hal was thrusting another glass into my hand.

I knew I shouldn’t have any more if I wanted to fully function the next morning but I shrugged. “Why not?”

After knocking back the shot, Hal got up. “You guys coming?”

“Hell yeah.” Andy grabbed my hand and we ran on to the dance floor.

It looked like things were getting pretty serious between Hal and Andy. Ever since they met on the cruise, they had been seeing each other. And it was just a great turn of luck that Andy also lived in LA.

“I’m going to call it a night.” I told Hal some time later.

He looked crest fallen. “It’s only 11. We are not letting you go, are we babe?” He addressed the last part to Andy. Andy shook his head vehemently.

I grinned kissing him on the cheek. “I need to make a move really.”

“Alright, Let me call a cab for you.”

“That’s okay, I’m sure I can hail one. It’s not that late anyway and surprisingly I’m not even drunk.” I insisted before kissing Andy good-bye.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

When I walked out of the club, several people were outside enjoying the chilly night and grabbing a quick smoke. My eyes scanned the street for a passing cab and as I did I saw a Bentley in the parking lot.

All my senses went on alert as I realized it was the same unmarked car that followed us here. A man was in the driver’s seat and talking to another man who was standing next to the car, his back to me.

Suddenly the man in the car looked right at me and his expression told me what I needed to know. I was right. He was following me. I suddenly felt a trickle of fear run through my spine. I knew I should get away from there but the fear had me frozen to the stop.

Before I could do anything, the man who had his back to me turned around.
The fear evaporated to be replaced by shock. “Jason?”

Jason said something to the other man and then walked to me.

“Are you having me followed?” I hissed when he came near.

He laid a hand on my shoulder. “Let me explain.”

I shook his hand off angrily. “What the hell, Jason? Do you know how terrified I was?”

He had the nerve to grin. “Let me give you a ride home. I’ll explain on the way.”

“Don’t touch me.” I glowered at him as he reached out to take my hand. “I’m not going anywhere with you. Just tell me why you are having me followed.”

He gave an impatient sigh. “God, I’ve never met a woman as stubborn as you.”
“You may have women falling over your feet in order to please you but I’m not one of them.” I snapped crossing my arms across my chest.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

He took a step towards me. “Guess I’ll just have to carry you to my car then.”

“You wouldn’t dare.” I lifted my chin in defiance.

    “Don’t test me, Kate.”

The look on his face told me that he wouldn’t think twice about tossing me over his shoulder. “You’re such a…….bully.” I finished lamely unable to come up with something better.

He smirked in victory as I let him usher me to his car. It was a dark red Porsche 918 Spyder and despite how angry I was, I couldn’t help getting impressed. I wondered if he had a car for each day of the week because never once had I seen him in the same car twice.

I glanced at him from the corner of my eye as he pulled out of the parking lot. He was wearing a dark v neck t-shirt that enhanced his biceps and black jeans. His hair fell over his forehead and my fingers itched to brush them away. Whoa! I shook my head to clear it.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you that I was having Alex follow you. He is one of the men in my security team.” Jason explained. He told me about the note he had received and how he believed the attack in Bali was not just a random one. “You saw that guy today and I think it’s safe to say someone is following me.”

I was silent taking in everything he said.
“And whoever he is, he knows you. You told me he recognized you today. That’s why I hired Alex.”

My hands were folded in my lap and he reached out covered it with his hand. “You don’t have anything to worry about. Alex will keep an eye on you at all times. Nothing’s going to happen to you.”

He squeezed my hand reassuringly and I nodded weakly as the magnitude of the problem struck me. Someone was after Jason and now I was in possible danger too. Could things be any worse than this?
“What about you?” I was worried and scared for him.

“I have the best security team in the world by my side.” He gave me smile and entwined his fingers with mine. I looked at our joined hands. The simple touch comforted me so I didn’t pull away.

He pulled in front of my building, climbed out and went around the car to hold the passenger side door open for me. As I stepped out of the car I noticed the Bentleyacross the street. “Is he going to be following me wherever I go?” Even though I knew it was for my safety, I couldn’t help being annoyed.

“Just until we find out who is behind all this.” Jason took my elbow and walked me to the entrance. “I noticed you don’t have a car of your own.” He said suddenly.

“Yeah, my car broke down a couple of months ago and the cost of fixing it was equivalent to buying a new car so I sold it to a second-hand dealer.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“Okay. Alex is going to be your driver from now on. He’ll take you anywhere you want.”

I was rummaging through my bag for the apartment key when he said this. I narrowed my eyes at him. ” No.”

His jaw hardened. “Can you, for once, do exactly as I say without being stubborn? I don’t want you going anywhere alone until I get this sorted out.”

    God, he was so bossy.

“I can take care of myself, Jason.” Yeah right, you can barely keep your personal life together. A voice inside my head scoffed. I ignored it. ” I don’t need a driver.”

“You got dragged into this mess because of me. I feel responsible for you. Just help me keep you safe.”

I sighed giving in. I didn’t want him to worry. “Fine.”

He smiled and I felt my stomach flutter in answer. That damn smile should be outlawed.

After he left, I walked inside and called Peter. I told him that I was going to Palm Beach with Jason in the morning. Even though I was confused about our relationship, he was still my fiancé and he had the right to know.

“No. I won’t give you permission to go.” Peter said with an edge to his voice.

Permission? What was he talking about?
“I don’t understand. You asked me to take this project and this is part of the job. As the interior designer, I have to go over the paintings and choose what I want.” I explained patiently.

“I’m sure he has pictures of them. Can’t you look at them and choose?”

“I need to check them personally.”

I pressed the bridge of my nose trying to not get angry. It wasn’t Peter’s fault that he was being this way. I was to blame. But that didn’t mean he had to make it difficult for me to do my job.

“The bastard just wants to get into your pants. That’s the only reason he even offered you the project. He could have hired the best interior designing firm in the world but instead he chose you.”

“You don’t think I can do this?”

He gave a humorless laugh. “Come on Kate. So you have a BA in interior designing but that doesn’t mean you can pull off such a huge job. Be realistic.”

His words were like a slap on my face. I knew I didn’t have the experience but that didn’t mean I couldn’t do this. I expected him to support me and encourage me. He was supposed to be the person I turn to when I was having doubts but here he was now telling me that I didn’t have what it took to pull it off.

“You don’t have to be cruel, Peter.” My voice was shaky despite how much I tried to not show how his words hurt me.

“I’m not going to sugar coat my words and tell you what you want to hear.” He exhaled loudly. “I obviously made a bad call in asking you to take the project. I want you to quit tomorrow.”

“What?” I couldn’t believe what he was saying. “I can’t do that.”

“Why not? I made you start working for that bastard and now I’m asking you to quit.”

“I signed the contract and I’m not going to walk away now.” I snapped, my temper flaring.

“You’re going to do as I say.” Peter sounded equally angry.

“Since when did this relationship start being about what you want?” I tried to keep myself calm but it was hard.

“Since you stabbed me in the back and cheated on me.” He was almost yelling now.

“I made a mistake, Peter. Are you going to keep throwing that in my face all the time?”

“Who said cheating is a mistake? It’s a choice. You made a choice and now I’m trying to move past that. If you loved me like you say, you wouldn’t even have thought of another man like that.”

All my anger vanished as his words struck me. He was right. Whatever happened with Jason was because I made a choice. Jason didn’t force me.
“I-I think we should take a break.” I blurted out finally.

    “What?” Peter sounded incredulous.
“We both need time to figure what we want from this relationship.” I tried to explain but he cut me off.

“You’re having doubts. Why are you hesitating to admit that you have developed feelings for that son of a bitch?”

“I don’t know okay. I don’t know what I feel anymore. I just want to get away from all this and figure out what I want.” My head was ready to explode and I closed my eyes tightly.

“This is for both of us.” I said softly. “I’m sorry for doing this to us.”

“You know what’s funny? Despite all you have done, I still fucking love you.” His voice was angry. “But don’t expect me to wait around forever. I’m giving you a week to come to your senses, Kate.”

Before giving me a chance to reply he hung up. I threw my phone on to the bed and sat there clutching my head in my hands. Just a month ago I was happily planning my wedding and my life was perfect. But here I was now, feeling empty, confused and alone.

My phone buzzed and I checked it. It was a message from Hal checking if I reached home safely. I typed out a reply and sent it before climbing into bed. I lay in there thinking about the mess my life had become. I felt emotionally done and mentally drained but I couldn’t fall asleep.

    Kate POV 💋

“I can’t Kate.” He whispered, the words reverberating against my lips and sending a tremor through my body.

Then he released his hold on me and I felt him step away. My body screamed in denial and my eyes opened.

I shook my head to clear the hazy cloud of desire I was in and the words he just said registered to me. I felt the humiliation of being rejected wash over me. Oh god, I had all but begged to be kissed and he had rejected me. He didn’t want me. Shame filled me and I wanted to disappear. I turned around quickly wanting to get out of there but Jason grabbed my arm before I could move.

Was he not satisfied? Did he want to humiliate me more?

“Let me go.” I whispered without looking at him.

He turned me around to face him.

“Look at me.” His voice was soft. When I refused, he continued. “You have no idea how much I want to kiss you.”

What? My eyes flew to his. I saw the unmistakable passion and hunger in them.

“But it’s not enough. Not this time.”
“What do you want then?” I heard myself whisper without meaning to.

With a soft tug he pulled me flush against him. “I want more.” He spoke into my ear, his lips caressing the sensitive folds. “You have no idea how much I want to bend you over this sofa here and fuck you right now.” He dropped his hands to my butt, pulling me firmly into his straining erection. “Like the way I know you want to be fucked. So hard that when I’m finally done with you, you won’t be able to walk straight for days.”

I gaped at him. The words sent a delicious jolt through my body and exploded in my core. I stifled the urge to squeeze my legs tight together. No one had ever been that direct with me.

“But I know you’re not ready to give me that.” He murmured, his fingers tightening on me briefly before stepping away. “You and me, it’s going to happen.” He said confidently. “But not until you’re absolutely sure it’s what you want.”

I understood the message behind his words. He was letting me know that the next move was mine and that he wouldn’t touch me again unless I asked him to. Unless I was ready to sleep with him.

My mind was in turmoil. I needed to get away from all this. It was all too much. I snatched my hand back and all but ran from the room.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

    Jason POV 💋

Next time you won’t get so lucky.

I stared at the note and frowned. What the fuck was this? The note was in an envelope that Andrea had brought to me along with my other daily messages. I checked the other side of the plain white paper but there was nothing else written on it. Was this someone’s idea of a joke? My name was written in bold letters on the envelope so there was no mistake it was meant for me.

I pressed the intercom and called Andrea and asked about it.

“It was delivered to the front desk today.” Andrea explained.

Disconnecting the call, I tried to ignore the uneasy feeling in my gut. Did this have to do anything with the attack in Bali?

I decided it was time I told Ben about that. I hadn’t told him about the incident in Bali because I had thought that it was just a random mugging attack. Now I wasn’t so sure.

I leaned back in the chair and glanced at the conference room next to my cabin. A two-way glass mirror separated the two rooms. The glass was only reflective from one side, so I was able to see straight through it, but from the other side it looked like a regular mirror.

Kate was sitting at the head of the conference table, chewing on the end of her pencil, as she flipped through some papers. On either side of her sat the five people I had hired to work under her. All of them seemed to be deep in work.

Ever since we came back from Bali a month ago, Kate had been coming into work every day along with her team. I was very satisfied with the extent to which they were progressing with the hotel project. The layout plans had already been finalized and they were now working on the design concepts.

I sighed remembering the last conversation Kate and I had in Bali. Ever since that night, she had been distant and there was no easy conversation between us anymore. During the time in Bali we had grown to be almost friends but now we were like two strangers, talking only about the hotel project.

Seeing her every day and not being able to touch her was the worst kind of torture. I could have had her that night in Bali. I recalled with frustration. I could still see her face when I rejected her silent invitation to kiss her. It haunted me late at night when I was in bed thinking about her, wanting her. But what I said to Kate was true, the next time I kissed her I didn’t want to stop at just that. I wanted it all. And I wanted her to be sure it’s what she wanted.

“Does Kate have any idea you’re watching her like a creep?” Nathan’s voice interrupted my thoughts.

“I’m not watching her. I’m just…okay, mind your own fucking business.” I scowled getting up from my seat and giving him a quick hug. “When did you get back?” He had been in Europe for the past two weeks.

“Came here straight from the airport. Got time for lunch?”

“I have a meeting in 2 minutes.” I grimaced checking my watch. “Stick around till I finish. I’ll wrap it up quickly.”

    Kate POV 💋

I was on the phone with the sales manager of PT. Indonesia Collectors Furniture in Indonesia. I had custom designed the furniture for the hotel and had sent them those designs so they could review and give me a price quote.
Two weeks ago, I presented Jason with the completed layout concept plans which he approved. Now we were in the design phase which included the selection of color schemes, fabrics, furniture and fixtures, and other materials. The past few days, my whole team had been busy with contacting manufacturers, suppliers and sales reps, getting quotes from them.

After finishing my call, I leaned back in my seat and massaged my neck.

“Have you decided on which artist’s work we would be using?” My assistant in the project, Erin asked me. She was the same age as me and very capable of finishing all the tasks I gave her on time. So were the others. I was glad the team Jason provided me with were as dedicated to work as I was.

“I’m going with the two local artists from Bali that we all agreed on.” I said. “I’ll consult with Jason later, and if he approves we can contact them.”

A knock on the door made us all turn around. Nathan was standing in the open doorway, a smile on his face. “Mind if I come in?”

“Of course.” I grinned getting up. “I thought Jason said you were in Europe.”
“I just got back.” He said giving me a quick hug and looking around. Apart from Erin and Julia, we had three guys in our team; Brad, Aaron and Robbie. And every single one of them was staring at Nathan with wide eyes.

It was apparent the guys were awed because they knew who he was. I couldn’t be sure why Erin and Julia seemed to be blushing. But knowing how us females reacted to gorgeous men, I was ready to bet it was Nathan’s smoldering good looks that was causing the flush on their face.

I was used to seeing them like that. It happened every time Jason entered the room. I thought they would get used to him but it had been a month and they still reacted to Jason the same way as they did the first time they saw him.

I couldn’t blame them. I acted just like them when Jason was around. I was just better at not showing it. Hiding a smile, I cleared my throat. “Guys, let’s take a twenty-minute break.”

After they hurriedly left, I turned to Nathan with a smile. “Want to have a look at the designs I have finalized?”

About fifteen minutes later, Jason walked into the room. “Since when did you become such an expert in rugs?” He drawled lazily when Nathan finished telling me his opinion about the rugs I have chosen for the suites.

I didn’t hear what Nathan said. I was too busy staring at Jason. He was dressed in a dark navy suit with a white shirt and was far too gorgeous for sensibility. He looked dangerously attractive in casual clothes. But dressed formally, he looked lethally sexy and every inch the powerful businessman that he was.

Our eyes met and he smirked with a slight raise of his eyebrows. I looked away immediately embarrassed to be caught checking him out and saw that even Nathan was smirking.

When they left, I let out the breath I was holding. Every time I saw Jason, I was reminded of our last night in Bali. That night haunted my thoughts even when he wasn’t around. It was like I couldn’t get him out of my head.

And it was getting harder to ignore the way my body reacted around him. Whenever I saw him all I could think about was flinging myself into his arms and kissing him. I was appalled by my thoughts. I wasn’t a very sexual person. Peter wasn’t bad in bed but he never aroused these wild feelings in me. I had never wanted to rip Peter’s clothes off but with Jason I wanted to attack him.

Thinking of Peter, my mood worsened. I was so confused about us. There were times I questioned whether I was really in love with him. Because if I was, I wouldn’t be fantasizing about Jason.

After telling Peter that I wouldn’t do anything to hurt him again, I had gone ahead and thrown myself at Jason, begging him to kiss me. I looked at the engagement ring on my finger feeling more confused than I had ever been in my life.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

Later that afternoon, I sat down with Jason to get his approval on the artists I had chosen to do the artwork for the hotel. He found their work impressive and gave me the go ahead.

“Their work would be used in all areas of the hotel except for the hotel lobby and presidential suites.” I explained. “I want a different style of artwork for those areas.”
“My dad is an art collector.” He said twirling his pen between his fingers. “In fact, his collection is considered one of the best private art collections in the world. If you want, I can take you to see it.”

“That would be great.” I immediately agreed.

“Good. I’ll pick you up at 8 tomorrow morning.”

“That’s not necessary.” I said hastily. “Just tell me the address where the art collection is kept and I’ll meet you there.”

A smirk touched his face as he regarded me with an amused look. “It’s in Florida.”
    “Oh.”

Seeing the look on my face, his smirk deepened. “Make sure you pack a bag.”

I was about to head home when Hal called me to ask if I was free for the night. We ended up making plans to meet up for drinks later that night. We hadn’t really hung out since he came back from vacation. I had been too busy with work.

As I exited the building, I noticed a figure clad in a dark hoodie loitering around. He looked a bit familiar and when he saw that I was looking at him, he immediately put his hood up and disappeared into the crowd.

I raked my brain trying to figure out how I knew him. Then I froze as the realization stuck. Even though I didn’t see his face clearly that night, I was so sure it was the same guy. He was the one who attacked Jason in Bali.

👩‍❤️‍👨 My Ex My Lover EPISODE SIXTEEN: 💞❣️

    Jason POV 💋

Sitting at the head of the conference room in The Lavinia Hotel, I listened to the discussion that was going on around me. My architect team sat on either side of the conference table. Kate was sitting across from me at the end of the table. They were discussing layout plans, design concepts and other important matter that needed to be considered before work started on the site.

I jumped in to the discussion from time to time when my opinion was needed but other than that, I left everything to them. Papers, files and laptops were scattered around the table along with a blueprint of the hotel.

My gaze landed on Kate, who was listening to something one of the architects was saying. Loose tendrils of hair framed her face. She kept brushing the strands away but it kept falling back.

She suddenly laughed at something one of the others said. It lit her face up and made her look more beautiful. I realized I liked seeing her like that. Always with a smile on her face.

As I watched, she leaned back in her chair and reached for her hair, no doubt annoyed with the loose tendrils blowing in her eyes. When she pulled the hair band off, the red mass of hair cascaded down.

I couldn’t tear my gaze away from her. I absolutely loved her hair, loved watching the red curls bouncing around her shoulders as she walked. As she went about it in fixing it into a ponytail, my gaze travelled down her body.

With her arms raised up, the soft material of her blouse stretched over her breasts and I could clearly see the imprint of her lacy bra showing through. My mouth went uncomfortably dry at the sight.

For an instance, I imagined myself going over to her and tearing that damn blouse off her so I could feast my eyes on her. I imagined my mouth on her body and wondered if she still tasted as sweet as I remembered.

The people in the room seemed to fade away as I descended deep into the fantasy. I pictured her bent over the conference table, her skirt bunched up around her hips as I drove myself deep into her.

Sharp stabs of lust that pierced through me at that mental picture. My fingers bit into the leather of my seat as I willed the images to fade away. Now was not the time to think of how much I wanted to fuck her. Not when I was with a roomful of people.

I was glad I was sitting down because that hid how hard I was. Shifting uncomfortably in my seat, I tore my gaze away from Kate and tried to pay attention to what my head architect was saying.
But it was no use. My eyes kept going back to her. I clenched my jaw in frustration, something I seemed to be doing a lot in her presence.

I felt pissed off at myself for letting her get under my skin. Every time I saw her, I wanted to touch her. It was pure torture trying to keep my distance when all I wanted to do was pull her into my arms and kiss her. Whenever she was in the same room as me, I wanted to push her against the nearest surface and fuck her brains out.

My self-control had been stretched to the limit on the 18-hour flight from LA to here. That was why I had ignored her, hoping the distance could help diminish the raging lust that took over me every time I saw her. But that hadn’t worked.
I kept reminding myself she was off-limits but my libido gave no fucks about the fact that she was engaged to another man. I wanted her. And I knew from the way she reacted every time I got close to her that she wanted me too. It was there in her eyes. I doubted she was even aware of it.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

The meeting ended ten minutes later and I was glad for it. I needed some time away from Kate. It was our last day in Bali and the following morning we would be flying back to LA.

I went back to my suite, planning on spending the entire evening working. I had several emails that needed my urgent attention and a couple of conference calls scheduled. Since I wasn’t planning on heading out, I gave the night off to Ben. He had some friends in Bali and I wanted to give him the chance to spend time with them.

After a shower, I sat at my desk checking my emails when I heard a knock on my door. Annoyed at the interruption, I went to answer it.

The annoyance was replaced my surprise when I found Kate standing outside.

She gave me a nervous smile. “Um…I’m heading out for dinner. So, I was wondering if you would like to go with me. I mean, if you want to.”

I smirked, enjoying her nervousness. “Are you asking me out on a date?” I deliberately wanted to fluster her more.
“Of course, not.” Just as I had expected, she flushed. “It’s just that I want to thank you for, you know, giving me this project. And I thought I could treat you to dinner.”
A lot of other ways she could thank me flashed through my mind starting with an image of her on her knees with my hand fisted in her hair as I fucked that mouth of hers. Mentally cursing, I shook my head to clear the image.

Kate was watching me closely. “You okay?”

“Yeah.” I cleared my throat, wondering how she would react if she had any idea what kind of thoughts went in my head regarding her. “Let me just grab my jacket.”

Kate wanted to try out a small restaurant down by the beach. Since it was just 10 minutes away from the hotel, we decided to walk there. The restaurant was too crowded for my taste.

Being surrounded by people was not something I enjoyed particularly, not that I was an introvert or antisocial. I just didn’t like crowds, hated being stared at by strangers wherever I went, hated the constant noise of chatter, so I preferred quiet, intimate settings. But Kate seemed to love the place so I didn’t say anything.
We sat at a corner table by a large window and I was relieved it provided some privacy. We decided to try some local food and ordered Patang Satay, Chicken Congee, Siomay Dumplings, and Lapis cake.

We talked all throughout dinner and as we waited for dessert I decided to ask her about her family.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“My parents got divorced when I was in college. I was glad when that happened.” She played idly with the stem of her champagne flute. I knew she was thinking about her father’s affairs. “After the divorce and dad married a Malaysian woman and moved to Kuala Lumpur.”

“What does your sister do?” I knew I was being nosy but I really wanted to know about her family. Paige had been in college when I dated Kate so I had never met her.

“Paige started working as an accountant in a Chicago law firm right after college. That was why mum moved there. So that she could be close to her.”

Her face showed love when she talked about her family. “You must miss them.”
“I really do. But I’ll be moving there at the end of next year.”

When I shot her a curious look, she elaborated. “Peter lives in Chicago. So after getting married I’ll be moving there with him.”

    “How did you meet him?”

She looked surprised at the question but answered with a shrug. “He works in the same law firm as Paige. I was visiting mum and her for Christmas and she introduced me to him.”

I knew I should stop asking questions but I was curious and Kate didn’t seem to mind telling me. “Have you set a date for the wedding?”

“Not yet. But we are thinking of sometime next year.” She gave me a small smile. “Now enough about me. Your turn.”

I didn’t really want to talk about me but since she had answered all my questions it was only fair that I give something in return. “Sure. Ask me anything you want.”
    “Tell me about your family.”

“Nothing much to say. You know I’m an only child.”

She nodded. “Were you lonely growing up?”

It occurred to me suddenly that Kate and I had never talked like this when we were dating. No wonder we didn’t know much about each other.

I thought about her question. “I guess I was. I don’t have any uncles or aunts on either side of my family, so there were no cousins. And both set of my grandparents passed away before I was even born so it was pretty much just me and my parents. But then I met Nathan and Cheryl and they instantly became part of the family.” I smiled thinking of them. “In fact, my parents think of them as their own.”

Our conversation was interrupted when the waitress brought the check. Automatically, I reached for my wallet and pulled out my credit card.

“I told you, it’s my treat.” Kate said taking the check holder away from me. Because I could see how much it meant to her, I let her have her way. To an extent.

“Okay, but let me cover the tip.” Ignoring her protests, I tucked a couple of hundred dollar bills in the leather holder.

She narrowed her eyes. “You always have to get your own way, don’t you?”

“Pretty much.” I smirked. She rolled her eyes but I could see she was trying not to smile.

As we walked back to the hotel it was around 11 in the evening and the narrow street was almost deserted. Kate was telling me about her plans for the furniture of the hotel and I had my attention on her so I didn’t notice the man who jumped out from behind a parked car before it was too late.

My instincts told me he was trouble but before I could act on it, a fist caught me on the side of the face. The force of the blow spun me and I staggered back.

    🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

    Kate POV 💋
I couldn’t move. I couldn’t scream. I watched in horror as the man dressed in the black hoodie land a blow on Jason’s abdomen.

A voice in my head screamed at me to go and help him but it felt like the voice was coming from far away. It was like I was frozen and the only thing I felt was the dark bitter taste of fear in my mouth.
When the man tried to land another blow on him, Jason ducked and sent his fist flying into the man’s gut, knocking the wind out of him. He lost his footing and fell on his ass. The next second he scrambled up and took off running in the other direction.

All this happened within a few seconds.
Jason was by my side immediately. “Are you okay?” His voice was laced with concern.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

I gulped in some air and whispered. “I…I wanted to…help but…” My voice broke and suddenly I was trembling.

I heard him swear softly under his breath before pulling me into his arms.
I clung to him and buried my face in his neck. “I’m sorry.”

He pressed a light kiss on my temple and rubbed my back trying to comfort me. “Shh. It’s over. I’m okay.”

I held on to him, not wanting to let go. He was alright. Nothing happened to him. Even in my emotional state my mind registered that it felt good to be held by him. It felt good to be comforted by him. I felt safe in his arms.

“We should get going. Can you walk?” Jason asked softly easing back and holding my face in his hands. When I nodded, he pulled me to his side and kept one arm wrapped around me as we started walking.

By the time we reached the hotel I was able to pull myself together.

“There should be a first aid kit around here.” I said heading to the bathroom in Jason’s suite.

“It’s just a small cut, Kate. The guy had a ring and it caught on my jaw. I’ve had worse from shaving.” He said leaning against the door as he watched me open the bathroom cabinet.

I ignored him and rummaged through the cabinet until I found a kit. “I’m going to get some hot water. Stop trying to talk me out of this and go and make a drink for me. A stiff one.”

Jason raised his eyebrows in amusement as I brushed past him. “Did I tell you that I like my women bossy and in control?”
I rolled my eyes at him and he headed to the bar, chuckling.

When I came back into the sitting area, Jason had two glasses of whiskey ready and was sitting on the couch.

“Are we playing doctor?” He teased taking in the bowl of water, towel and first aid kit I had arranged on the coffee table.

“Will you be quiet?” I sighed in exasperation but couldn’t help smiling. “Stay still. I’m going to clean that cut.” It was on the underside of his jaw, almost one inch but it wasn’t too deep.

I soaked the towel with warm water and bent over him. My fingertips brushed his jaw as I tilted his face and cleaned the cut with the towel. The intake of his breath was like a gasp in my ear. It was as sudden as that. My whole body tingled with awareness of being so close to him. He smelled of cologne mixed with a faint hint of sweat, and so very male.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

Focus. I ordered myself. Now was not the time to be getting distracted.

“You won’t have much of a scar.” I mumbled as I applied antibiotic cream to the cut. Then I did the mistake of meeting his gaze.

His jaw was clenched and he had that half smile on his face but it was the look in his eyes that stilled me. His gaze swept the bare skin of my shoulder, up my throat and settled on my lips. It was the same look he got in his eyes whenever he kissed me.

A shiver went through my body and I scrambled back, hitting the back of my legs against the low coffee table. As I lost my balance he sprung up from the couch and grabbed me around the waist preventing my fall.

I gasped as my body collided against his hard chest. My body froze, my breathing stopped and all I could do was stare at his lips. He was going to kiss me. I could feel it. I knew I had to move away but I was held transfixed.

I could feel his heart beating rapidly and his hand tightened on my hips. He bent his head down and I realized I wanted this. I wanted to feel his lips on mine. I wanted him.

My mind was screaming at me that what I was doing was wrong but it paled in comparison to the loud beating of my heart. My eyes fluttered close with anticipation and lifted my face up. Wanting, needing what his lips could only do to me.

His breath fanned my lips and my fingernails bit into his forearms as I waited…waited for him to drive me crazy.

👩‍❤️‍👨 My Ex My Lover EPISODE FIFTEEN: 💞❣️

    Kate POV 💋

We landed at the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, around 2 in the afternoon. Another Mercedes-Maybach was waiting for us on the ramp and Ben drove us to The Lavinia Hotel, where we were staying in for the next three days.

It appeared the top floor of the entire hotel was booked for us. Jason preferred his privacy. My suite was right next to his. After settling in, I texted Peter and let him know I had arrived. I wasn’t on roaming, so I sent him my suite’s direct telephone number in case he wanted to call me.
Jason gave me time to freshen up before we headed to his new hotel. It was located on beachfront of the golden sand of Kuta Beach and had 100 ocean view suites, 20 luxury water bungalows and 30 beach villas. It also boasted 5 restaurants and bars, three spas, two fitness centers, three sculptured pools and a helipad.

A group of architects were already present there and as Jason talked to them I walked around taking pictures from my Nikon. The rooms were bare and all the furniture had been moved out. I was suddenly struck by how huge this project was. I didn’t have the experience for this, I thought panicking.

“You look pale.” Jason stated as he walked up to me in the lobby.

“I’m just wondering how I can get all this done.” I said waving a hand around helplessly. “This is too huge for me.” My voice was hoarse and I turned to him in desperation.

“Breathe, Kate.” Jason murmured as he took me by the shoulders. His touch was light but there was enough pressure to snap me out of my panic. “I know you can do this.”

“How can you be so sure?”

He held my gaze and said softly. “I believe in you.”

The four simple words overwhelmed me. No one, not even Peter had ever shown such faith in my talent as an interior designer.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“That means a lot. Thank you.”

He looked as if he wanted to say more but we were interrupted by the head of the architect team.

I spent the day taking measurements of the rooms and recording everything on my camera and notebook. After the initial self-doubt, I was back to being my usual confident self that always came up when working.

We had lunch with the architects, which stretched into two hours as we discussed the plans we had for the project. By the time the day ended, I was brimming with excitement. I couldn’t wait to get started on the layout and space planning when I got back to my suite.

Jason and I headed back to The Lavinia Hotel late in the evening. After dinner, he asked me join him in his suite.

He did some paperwork while I worked on layout and space planning. Based on the measurements taken, I drafted several layouts and presented them to Jason.

“These are just rough plans. When I finish, you can finalize one and I’ll start on the design concept.” I explained as he studied them.

We discussed design concepts and he seemed pretty impressed by my ideas. I suggested that the rooms be designed with top quality materials like wooden floors, sculpted wooden furniture, Java stone and bamboo to give it a more traditional look. My whole concept focused on a mixture of elegant luxury and comfort.

“We have a meeting with the architects tomorrow morning. You can coordinate with them about the changes you want to be made.” He said as he rubbed the back of his neck. He looked exhausted. We had been working for hours. “Do you want a drink?”

Warning bells went off in my head reminding me that I should leave. Working with him in his suite was okay but joining him for a drink so late in the night didn’t seem like a good idea. Not when I was so aware of him. But he was looking at me expectantly and I couldn’t say no.

“A glass of wine would be nice.” I smiled at him. I guiltily thought of Peter but pushed it away. Jason and I weren’t doing anything inappropriate. It was Peter who asked me to take this project and he knew I had to be alone with Jason most of the times. Having a drink together was not a problem. I firmly told myself.

While Jason was making drinks at the bar, the hotel line started ringing.

“Do you want me to get it?” I asked him.
    “Sure.”

I reached for the phone, which was on the coffee table. “Hello?”

“Who is this?” A female voice asked.

“Uh…Are you calling for Jason?” Duh, of course she was. Why else would she call his hotel room?

The woman laughed. “I am. May I know whom I’m speaking to?”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“I’m Kate. Jason’s interior designer.” I glanced at the bar but Jason wasn’t there. Where the hell did he go?

“I wasn’t aware he had an interior designer.” She commented. Then she shocked me by asking if I was dating him.
“No.” I blurted out quickly. Who was this woman asking such personal questions? “I just work for him.”

“I apologize for being intrusive.” She sounded sincere. “It’s just that my son is very private about his personal life and I couldn’t help being curious.”

Son? Oh god, this was Jason’s mom.
Before I could reply Jason was by my side. He frowned at the shock on my face as he took the phone from me. He handed the drink he had in his hand to me and I sat down on the couch.

I tuned out the conversation he was having with her and focused on checking my mail. When Peter didn’t answer his phone, I had sent him a mail earlier. I sighed in frustration. There was no reply from him.

“What did my mom say to you?” Jason asked as he sat across from me.

“She asked me if I’m dating you.” I grinned. “She also said you are very private about your personal life.”

Jason laughed. “It drives her crazy. I keep my dates as far away from home as possible.”

When I shot him a questioning look he continued, “I’ve yet to meet someone who I want to introduce to my parents.”
I was surprised. “You mean in all these years you haven’t met someone like that?”

    He shook his head smirking.

“I don’t believe that.” I laughed. “What about that Greek heiress you were dating?”

“Delia Costas? We dated for two weeks. The media made a big deal out of it.”

“Julie Andrews? Valerie Javier? Emma Price?” I fired off a list of famous people Jason was rumored to have dated over the years.

He raised one eyebrow. “Have you been keeping track of all the women who have been linked to my name?”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

I rolled my eyes. “In case you are unaware, your dating life is front page news.”

“Not everything the media publish about me is true.” He said taking a sip of his drink. “Whenever I’m spotted with a woman, they assume I’m fucking them.”

I was curious. “So, they are all rumors?”
“Not all of it.” He flashed me wicked smile. “I’m no saint, Kate.”

“Believe me, I’d never use that word to describe you.”

He laughed at that and I watched him mesmerized. His face was relaxed and his eyes were dancing with amusement. I had a feeling I would never get used to his killer smile and smoldering good looks.

Swallowing a gulp of wine, I asked him the question that had been playing in my head. It was a personal question but I couldn’t help being curious. “What about Cheryl Black?” She was the most sought after model and actress in the world currently and voted this year’s sexiest woman alive by Times Magazine.

Over the years, I had seen Jason, Cheryl and Nathan photographed many times. In fact, just over a month ago, I saw her pictured with Jason at the premier of her latest movie.

The media often speculated whether they had a secret relationship. Her name was always linked to either Nathan or Jason. I had caught an interview she did for The Tonight Show, where she addressed the rumors and said they were just friends. But still the tabloids never stopped from speculation.

    “What about her?”

“You know what the media says about you both.”

    “She’s just my best friend.”

That surprised me. “I thought Nathan was your best friend.”

“Well, yeah. They both are.” He smiled. “I met Cher about six years ago, at a charity event that my parents dragged me to. We became fast friends and before college we went backpacking in Africa along with Nathan.”

“That sounds like a fun trip.”

“It was. We had the best time of our lives. And after the trip, we moved to Oxford for college and lived together for three years.” A smile touched his face and I knew he was thinking of those times.
He glanced at me. “What about you? I’m assuming you and Hal are pretty close.”
“Yeah. He’s my best friend.” I told him about how we met during college and he listened intently. The conversation flowed between us as we sipped on wine. He shared more about his backpacking trip with Nathan and Chery and their life in Oxford.

By the time we were on our third glass of wine, the topic had turned to cars.
“What’s your favorite car?” He asked me with interest.

“Oh, the list is endless. But I would really like to own a LaFerrari one day.” I sighed wistfully. “But that’s an impossible dream.”

“There’s no such thing as an impossible dream.”

“For you may be.” I teased. “People like me just have to live with the fact that there are somethings that will remain a dream forever.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“I beg to differ. Anyone can achieve their dreams if they work hard enough for it.” He said with a smile.

We continued talking until I realized it was past midnight. If I was being honest with myself I was enjoying being with him like this, joking and laughing, and I had completely lost track of time. He was not only wildly gorgeous but was so witty and so likable. And the way he treated people was another attractive quality about him. It would be so easy to fall for a guy like him.

Instantly my mind warned me that I was heading into dangerous territory. I shouldn’t be thinking about him like that. Blaming it on the wine, I got up. “It’s late. I should get back to my suite.”

He walked me to the door. “Good night, Kate. I’ll see you tomorrow morning at 6.”
    “Six?” I groaned. “You’re cruel.”

He grinned. “The earlier we start, the sooner we can finish.”

    “Fine.” I sighed. “Good night.”

I was getting ready for bed when the phone in my room started ringing.

“Where the hell have you been?” Peter said as soon as I answered the phone. “I’ve been calling for hours.” He sounded annoyed.

“I was in Jason’s suite, working.”
“All this time? It’s almost 1 in the morning there, Kate.”

I looked at the bedside clock guiltily. “I stayed for a drink after we were done.” I said honestly. I didn’t want to lie to Peter.
He was silent and then he exhaled sharply. “Did anything…?

“No” I cut him off suddenly feeling tired. “Nothing happened, honey. I told you I wouldn’t lie to you.”

“I’ll call you tomorrow then.” He said abruptly and hung up.

I stood there holding the phone for a while. I wanted to talk to him about my day. I wanted to tell him about my work and share my excitement with him. But I knew it would take time for him to get over the pain I caused him.

👩‍❤️‍👨 My Ex My Lover EPISODE FOURTEEN: 💞❣️

    Kate POV 💋

As soon as we boarded the jet, Jason went back ignoring me. He spent an entire hour talking to Ben about football. I was sitting across from him but he pretended I wasn’t there. And Ben, who I thought was quiet and not much of a conversationalist, proved me wrong by talking animatedly and even laughing out loud.

Frustrated with both of them, I got up from my seat but not even one of them glanced my way. All the same, I sent a glare their way as I headed to my room.
It was getting on my nerves how Jason was acting. One minute he was talkative and approachable, the other second, he was brooding and angry, then the other times he ignored me as if I didn’t exist. It was like he had PMS or something.

Flopping on the bed, I took out my phone and checked if there were any messages from Peter. To my disappointment, there were none. I sighed, knowing I needed to give him more time.

I fell into a restless sleep and was woken up by a knock on the door.

    “Kate?”

Jason’s voice came from the other side and I scrambled out of the bed. Yawning, I opened the door, trying to shake the sleepiness away.

It was only when I noticed his eyes focusing on my hair that I realized it was a mess, sticking out in all directions. I hastily ran a hand through it to calm it down.

“I’m sorry to wake you up but lunch is ready.” His voice was tight and eyes guarded as if he was thinking of something else entirely.

“I’ll be right out.” I said and with a nodded he walk away. Ten minutes later I joined him.

“Wow. I could get used to travelling like this.” I grinned at Jason, who was seated opposite me. I gestured to the delicious looking avocado and prawn salad, red snapper with pine nuts and asparagus on the folding table “Usually I get a packet of peanut and weak coffee when I travel.”

He looked amused as he picked up a basket of bread sticks and placed in front of me. He was back in a good mood and I was glad for that. Even though the meal was delicious, I knew I couldn’t possibly finish all of it. I thought of the entire cheesecake I had finished all by myself the previous night. I really needed to restrict my calorie intake.

Jason frowned when I pushed the half-eaten plate away and grabbed a napkin. “Something wrong with the food?”
“No, it’s wonderful but I don’t want to eat any more.” When he raised an eyebrow, I hastily added. “I’m trying to lose weight for the wedding.”

“If you ask me you look perfect just the way you are.”

I was startled at the sudden compliment. It was said in an offhand way but then our gazes met. His eyes held so much masculine appreciation that I was flustered and had to remind myself to breathe.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

Trying to cover my reaction to him, I regarded him with a teasing smile which, I hoped to God hid how flustered I was. “Thank you. But when you see me in the wedding dress looking horrendously fat then remember today.” I joked.

“Am I getting an invitation then?” He said lazily with a smirk.

“Will you come?” I kept my tone light and teasing just as he was. I was feeling relieved that we were able to have a normal conversation and act as if we were almost friends.

He leaned back in his chair, toying with the stem of his wine glass, and stared at me intensely. “No.”

With that soft denial on his part, the friendly atmosphere I imagined we had between us, vanished instantly.

He dropped his napkin on the table and got up. “I’ll be in the meeting room. Join me when you’re done.”

I watched him walk away and sighed in frustration. Were we never going to be able to have a normal conversation between us again? One minute he seemed relaxed and friendly and the next minute he was cold, distant and tense.
The only thing I asked him to do was to treat me like a business colleague. Was that too much to ask? We were working together for crying out loud. The look in his eyes when he looked at me a while ago made it clear that he was regretting his decision in hiring me.

I froze when a realization stuck. He offered me a deal when he thought he had a chance of getting me to bed. As soon as I made it clear that I wanted nothing but a business relationship between us he didn’t want me working for him. So then why didn’t he cancel the deal? Because then it was too late to back out. My subconscious explained. He didn’t have a choice but to give the project to me.

I pushed my plate back. I needed to talk to him. I couldn’t go on knowing that he didn’t want me on here. I was going to make it easy on him and walk away from all this. With a determination I didn’t know I possessed, I headed towards the meeting room.

Jason was seated at the long conference table typing on his phone with a frown on his gorgeous face.

“Did you offer me the project so that you could sleep with me?”

Jason snapped his head towards me so fast I knew he was startled. “What the fuck are you talking about?”

The scowl on his face could have had even the bravest of men running for cover. But I wasn’t going to let him intimidate me. I silently thanked the glass of wine I had drunk and faced him.

“Ever since you realized I wouldn’t sleep with you, you have been acting like a jerk.”
With a deadly look on his face he got up from his chair and started walking towards me. I panicked as memories of the exact same thing happening in his suite on board the cruise ship came to me. I pushed it firmly away and refused to back down. I was going to have this conversation with him.

“I saw the way you looked at me a while ago. You had so much anger in your eyes and I know you’re regretting hiring me. I mean, you could have hired someone else, someone who was willing to sleep with you.” As he closed the distance between us, I babbled on, the panic returning full force.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

He stopped a couple of feet away from and rested his hips on the conference table. His long legs were crossed at the feet and arms crossed across his chest as he studied me with dangerous glint in his eyes.

“Are you implying that the only way I could get a woman to bed is by luring her into it with a job offer? ” His voice was too low, too soft and too calm but I heard the barely controlled fury in it.

“I..I didn’t mean that.” I swallowed hard. “It’s just that I have a feeling you don’t want me here. When you offered me the deal you assumed sex was part of it but when I made my terms clear you became distant.”

He stared at me in disbelief. “You think I hired you so that I can fuck you?”

Say no. Say no. My subconscious recognized the dark fury in his eyes and tried to warn me.

    “Y…Yes.”

He unfolded himself and took a step towards me. I held my ground not giving into the urge to step back.

“I don’t want to keep having this conversation again and again Kate. So listen to me well. I hired you because I saw something in you. When you talked about opening your business you sounded so passionate about it. I saw what the work you have done. You are talented.” He was standing too close for my comfort but the words held me transfixed. “I never, ever make business decisions based on my personal feelings.”

My heart contracted at his words. I saw from his expression that he meant every word he said. “Then why do you act like you don’t want me here? I know we agreed to be professional but if we are going to work together we should learn to coexist in a friendly atmosphere.”

A dark unreadable look passed on his face. He didn’t look angry now but he was tense. I was afraid he was not going to answer. Then he sighed running a hand through his hair.

“Alright.” He said carelessly shrugging. “I can do that.”

Even though his tone was bored, I knew he was going to try. With a grateful smile, I held out a hand. “Friends?”

He stared at my hand frowning then an amused smirk formed on his face. “If that’s what you want.” He drawled lazily and grasped my hand in a firm shake before letting go quickly. “Shall we get to work?”

I returned his smile and nodded. I was glad we cleared the air. Now all I had to do was treat him like a friend and not let the unexplainable effect he had on me to ruin that.

    Kate POV 🌺

Andrea had informed me that Ben would pick me up at 6 in the evening so by 5 minutes to 6 I was downstairs waiting for him. I left a message to Peter telling him that I was leaving. It had been four days since he left and I hadn’t heard from him ever since.

A Rolls-Royce Wraith pulled in front of my building and Ben stepped out of it.

“Good evening, Ms. Lewis.” He greeted me as he picked up the single piece of luggage I had.

“Evening, Ben.” I smiled and followed him. He held the car door open for me and I thanked him before getting into the backseat. I couldn’t help admiring the interior of the car. The seats were made from the finest natural leather and there were soft wool carpets. The cabin had open grain wood paneling and I sighed longingly, leaning back in the comfortable seat.

I was so lost in my thought of admiring the car that I didn’t notice it pulling in front of Perez Enterprises. I was startled when the door opened and Jason got in beside me. He was on the phone and sent a curt nod towards me before carrying on with his conversation.

Suddenly the spacious car seemed cramped to me. I took a deep breath and trying to calm my nerves. He was dressed casually in a white t-shirt and faded jeans. Despite how much I tried not to look, my gaze took in the way the sleeves stretched over his biceps.

I dragged my eyes away before he caught me staring. He spent the whole ride to the airport talking on the phone.

I was surprised when Ben drove straight on to a private strip of land. I realized it was a private airport and couldn’t help rolling my eyes at myself. Of course, Jason wasn’t going to fly commercial. There was a white jet waiting for us on the runway. It wasn’t small like I had imagined private jets to be.

A handsome man dressed in a white uniform greeted us. “Good morning, Mr. Perez.” He smiled at me, “Ma’am.” I smiled back.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

Jason led me up the steps and into the aircraft. The interior of the cabin was luxurious with cream and beige being the main color. The cabin was spacious with large windows, comfortable seating and all the amenities that you would only think belonged in a penthouse suite. There were five closed doors and I suspected them to be the bedrooms or office areas.

“Would you like a drink, Ma’am?” A beautiful redhead dressed in a uniform was by my side as soon as I got seated.
“No, thank you.” I said with a polite smile.
Jason was on the ground talking to the pilots and a few minutes later he boarded the plane with Ben. Jason took the seat opposite on me and fastened on the seat belt. Ben choose a seat on the other side of the jet.

Jason’s expression was unreadable as he glanced at me. “Put on your seatbelt, Kate. You can unfasten it when we have taken off safely.”

He hadn’t cracked one smile ever since Ben picked him up at office. In fact, I could see how tense his shoulders were. It was apparent he was in a dark mood.
The stewardess approached him but he waved a hand and she walked away. So this was how the rich and powerful operated. Everything was done with a flick of hand. I thought as I studied him from the corner of my eyes.

He didn’t even look at me as he took a sheaf of papers from his briefcase. I was glad he didn’t try to make conversation. The memories of our last heated moments were still fresh in my mind and I wanted to keep my distance from him.
When we were safely up in the air, Jason put his papers down and stood up. “Why don’t you rest in the bedroom?”

He opened a door at the end of the cabin and ushered me into a spacious bedroom. A big bed occupied the middle with silk sheets and a big plasma television was on one wall. My luggage was on the cream carpet by the bed.
“If you need anything just press the intercom and you’ll reach one of the stewardess.”

“Thank you.” I said giving him a smile.
He didn’t return it. Instead he just nodded and left. I hated to admit it but his distance was getting to me. He used to be so approachable before but now it felt as if there was a wall between us. I knew I should be glad he was being so distant but still I was bothered.

I flopped on the bed and took my laptop and got to work. Jason wanted the hotel to have a cozy intimate atmosphere with antique furnishing and warm colors. I spent the next few hours putting together a presentation to show him.

I must have fallen asleep because I was woken up to a knock on the door. It was one of the stewardess. She informed me dinner was ready.

I was starving so I hurriedly freshened up and changed into jeans and a shirt. I found Jason seated in the front of the jet and he looked engrossed in work. His gaze was on his laptop screen but he looked up, as if he felt my presence.

    “Sleep well?”

“Yes, thank you.” I hated how polite we were being.

The stewardess appeared just then, rolling a cart of food. I sat across from Jason and watched as she arranged the dishes on the folding table between our seats.

“Where’s Ben?” I asked clearing my throat.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“He’s resting.” Jason gestured to the chicken and mushroom dish in front of me. “You were sleeping so I ordered for you. Hope you don’t mind.”

“This looks great. Thank you.” I took an appreciative sniff and added with a smile. “I love mushrooms.”

    “I know.”

“You do?” I glanced at him surprise. “How?”

He hesitated for a brief second before answering. “I don’t know if you remember but we had a movie night at my place and you wanted to eat mushroom pizza.”

I remembered that day clearly. It was our third date. I was just so shocked he remembered it as well.

A smirk touched his lips. “I ordered five pizzas but you didn’t want to share any with me.”

“That is so not true.” I said laughing. “You basically inhaled two entire pizzas before I could even finish one slice. I didn’t want you getting sick so I refused to let you have anymore.”

“Yeah, because you didn’t want to share.” His teasing grin was infectious and I found myself returning it.

It was the first time we both discussed anything about our past and a brief silence fell between us. It looked like he wanted to say more about it but seemed to change his mind and instead asked me a question about work.

After a while, the tension seemed to melt away as we continued making light conversation. After dessert and coffee, Jason led me to the small meeting room on the jet where we spent a couple of hours discussing the hotel project.

After that he disappeared into one of the rooms on board, taking in the paperwork he had brought with him. He didn’t come out for the rest of the night and I saw the stewardess taking in coffee for him so I knew he was awake. He seemed to be keeping his distance again. After the friendly conversation we shared during dinner, I thought we were back to normal but I guessed I was wrong.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

I spent my time browsing the internet, looking up suppliers and furniture places to match my ideas. The budget for the project was open, and Jason wanted me to use the best money could buy, so I was checking up suppliers who were known for their luxurious products.

I needed to see the hotel before I could do any more work, so I was getting bored being all by myself. Ben was around but after two attempts of trying to strike up a conversation with him I gave up. He only answered in monosyllables and it was like trying to talk to a brick wall.

So I gave up and went to bed. The next morning I was up by 7 and the stewardess served me breakfast. There was no sign of Jason so I assumed he was sleeping. A little over an hour later, the stewardess told me we were about to land in Ninoy Aquino International airport in Manila, Philippines to refuel.

Jason walked out of his room a few minutes later and I couldn’t tear my gaze away from him. He had donned a charcoal grey suit and a light blue dress shirt that hugged his masculine physique perfectly. How could a man look so breathtaking? And why was he wearing a suit?

Wearing the jeans and the white shirt from the previous night, I suddenly felt self-conscious. He looked as if he belonged in a GQ Magazine cover while I was sporting a wrinkled shirt.

He strapped himself in his seat and sent a look my way. “Seatbelt, Kate.”

Jerked out of my thoughts, I quickly clasped on the seatbelt.

“We’ll be staying in Manila for a couple of hours.” He was saying. “I have to visit my resort here and if you want, you can come with me.”

“I could do with some fresh air.” I said gratefully. After fifteen hours of being on the jet, there was nothing I wanted more than to get out. When the jet landed, I quickly swapped my wrinkled shirt for an ivory silk blouse.

A passport control agent boarded the jet and completed the immigration process in record time. I was impressed. When I travelled, I had to wait in line at the gate but it turned out when you fly private, the customs officials came to you.

There was a Mercedes-Maybach Pullman limo waiting for us on the tarmac when we disembarked the jet. After Jason and I settled in, Ben climbed in the driver’s seat and started driving.

I was excited to be in a new country so I kept my face pressed to the window as I watched the beautiful scenery of Manila passed by. As usual, Jason was on his phone. I had thought Peter was the ultimate workaholic but Jason was a whole different level.

The Perez Resort and Hotel in Manila was a twenty-minute ride from the airport. Set against the scenic backdrop of Manila Bay, it was simply magnificent. While Jason went into a meeting with the manager of the hotel, I looked around. Ben followed behind me and I wondered if Jason had asked him to keep an eye on me.

After Jason finished the meeting, he spent the next hour mingling with the staff, talking and asking them about their work. I was surprised to see how down to earth and friendly he was.

He was a multi-billionaire but when he talked to his staff, there was no superiority in him. He treated everyone with respect and seemed genuinely interested in what they had to say. Before leaving, he even spent a good ten minutes talking to the doorman, asking him about his family and children.

By the time we were in the limo, heading back to the airport, I was viewing him in a different light.

He noticed me looking at him and lifted one eyebrow. “What?”

    “Nothing.”

“Something’s clearly on your mind. Tell me.”

“It’s just that you’re different than I thought.”

He looked amused. “Considering how much of a low opinion you have about me, I’m assuming I finally managed to do some good in your eyes?”

My mouth hung open. “I don’t have a low opinion about you.”

“If you say so.” He said with a lazy smile. “So how am I different?”

“Well, you were so nice to everyone back at the resort. I didn’t expect that. I mean not everyone treats their staff with so much respect.”

“Just because I control their paychecks doesn’t mean I own them.” He said simply. “They are also human, just like me, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness.”

Seeing the humble and kind side of him at the resort had made my heart melt a little. And now hearing his words made it melt a little bit more. I didn’t know why he thought I had a low opinion of him. Yes, I considered him a notorious playboy but now I knew despite that little flaw, he was actually a wonderful person….

    Jason POV 💋

    “Surprise!”
I tore my gaze away from the computer screen and looked up to see Cheryl Black standing in front of me. “Cheryl.” I stood up and walked around my desk towards her. “When did you get back from Cannes?”

“A couple of hours ago.” She pressed a soft kiss to my cheek just as I pulled her into a hug. “Did you miss me?”
“Nah. Barely noticed you were gone.” I teased.

“Liar.” She laughed and flopped down in the chair in front of my desk, and I took my seat behind the desk. “What are you doing tonight?”

“What do you think?” I said gesturing to the huge stacks of documents on my desk. I needed to go through them and put my signature of approval on them. Not only that but I had several meetings too.

    “God, you’re such a workaholic.”

“And you’re such a fine example of balance?” I shot her an amused look. She was one of the busiest actresses in Hollywood and travelled all over the world for filming.

“Of course. I take breaks in between filming.” She waved a hand carelessly and grinned. “C’mon let’s do something tonight.”

    “Like what?”

“There’s this new Korean restaurant in Long Beach I’ve been dying to try. We can start by having an early dinner there. Say about 6 or 7?”

I rubbed a hand across my nape as I considered her idea. I needed a break, I admitted to myself. I hadn’t even eaten anything since breakfast the previous day. A decent meal and a night out with Cheryl would do me good. But on the other hand, there was so much work to do.

“I’m not taking no for an answer.” Cheryl quickly said reading my mind.

“You’re so damn annoying, you know that?”

    “Is that a yes?”

Shooting her an exasperated look, I pressed my intercom.

Andrea’s voice came through. “Yes, Sir?”

“What’s my schedule after 5 today?”

“You have a meeting with Mr. Preston at 5, a management meeting at 6 and an interview with Forbes Magazine at 7.”

I frowned thinking. Preston was the Regional Manager who oversaw the operations and sales of all of my hotels and resorts in Europe, and he had flown in straight for the meeting so I couldn’t cancel it. The management meeting was important too and I didn’t want to cancel the interview with Forbes either. I had already cancelled on them twice before.
“Also Mr. Yates wants to talk to you regarding the mobile app.” Andrea continued after a pause. “Should I set a meeting for 8?”

Yates was the head of the Research and Development department. He was currently working on several new features to add to our existing mobile hotel booking app. I knew he wouldn’t request a meeting unless it was urgent.

    “Make it 7.30.”

“Very well, sir. Is there anything else?”

    “That’s all.”

Cheryl who had been listening to the conversation gave a dramatic sigh. “Next time I want to have dinner with you I’ll just call Andrea and make an appointment.”

“Good idea.” I couldn’t help grinning at the face she made at me. “I’ll be done by 9. We can still do dinner.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

Her face brightened up. “Great. I’ll call Nathan and tell him to join us.”

“I doubt he can make it. He already has plans tonight.”

“Really? With who? Anyone I know?” She asked excitedly.

“If you’re familiar with the Swedish Royal family.”

“Oh, don’t tell me it’s Princess Isabelle.”
    “Why, do you know her?”

“I met her on my last trip to Sweden. She’s one of the sweetest people I know.” She sighed. “She doesn’t deserve to be hurt.”

My lips twitched. “I doubt Nathan has any intention of hurting her.”

“I’d have believed you if not for the long trail of broken hearts behind you both.”
“In my defense, the women I sleep with know exactly what they are getting into.”
She laughed, pulling her hair into a ponytail. “One of these days you’re going to meet a woman who makes you feel things you’ve never felt before, and trust me, you won’t know what hit you.”

Kate popped into my mind immediately and I felt my body still. I clenched my jaw in annoyance. No, I refused to believe I had feelings for her. It was just physical lust.

“Oh my god, you already have, haven’t you?” She was staring at me gleefully.

Rearranging my features into a smirk, I got up from my seat and walked around to her. “Okay, that’s it. You’re leaving now.” I said pulling her to her feet and steering her towards the door.

“I can’t believe you’re kicking me out. At least tell me who she is.”

I was enjoying the frustration on her face. “I’ll pick you up at 9.”

“Fine. I’ll drop it for now. But you know I won’t rest until I find out who the mystery woman is, right?”

“You’re such a pain in my ass.”

“That’s why you love me so much.” She grinned and stood on her toes to press a kiss to my cheek. “See you at 9.”

I watched her leave with exasperated amusement on my face. I knew she would spend the whole dinner questioning me.

The first time I met Cheryl was when I was 18. It was a couple of weeks after my relationship with Kate ended. I had accompanied my parents to a charity event in Washington and she was also there. Her family owned one of the biggest chain of high end retail stores all over the world. So naturally, my family and hers moved in the same social circles.

Over the next few months we found ourselves meeting at different social events and we developed a genuine friendship between us. After high school Nathan and I decided to go on a trip before we went off to college. I asked Cheryl to join us and the three of us went backpacking in Africa. We covered South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia in a month, spending a week in each country.

That trip had been life changing for us. Cheryl and I had a pampered life, with every luxury known to man. We were used to staying at the best hotels, travelling in private jets and fancy cars. However, Nathan came from a working-class family and he persuaded us to rough it. So instead of fancy hotels, we chose to stay with local families who provided accommodation to travelers and camped under the stars.

We explored the beautiful countries by public buses, vans and hired scooters. The locals were so kind and wonderful and we learnt so much from them on our short trip. It was the best experience of our lives and completely changed our perspective on how we saw the world.

When we came back to the States, the three of us had grown so close to each other. We even ended up applying to the same college. Our friendship was strictly platonic, in fact, Nathan and I thought of Cheryl as a sister.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

After college, Cheryl pursued her dream of acting and modelling. Nathan started his own consulting firm. Four years later, now Cheryl was the most successful actress in Hollywood. Nathan had turned his firm into a multibillion dollar empire. As for me, in the time since I stepped in as the CEO of Perez Holdings, I had doubled our family’s net worth earning the 6th place on Forbes list of world’s top billionaires.

But all through our success, the three of us had remained as close as ever. We had a once in a lifetime kind of friendship.

I was jerked out of my thoughts by a knock on my door.

    “Come in.”

Andrea entered carrying several files I had requested.

I took them from her and asked. “Is everything ready for my departure tomorrow?”

Kate and I were flying out to Bali to see the hotel the next day. She had called me the previous day saying she had changed her mind and wanted to accept the hotel project. We had spent agonizingly long hours in my office the previous day.

She acted distant and professional and I did the same. At the start of the meeting she told me that she had told her fiancé everything and the only reason she was accepting the job was because he had asked her. I was still perplexed as to why he wanted her to take the job but Kate refused to answer.

“I want you to forget about whatever happened between us. I’ll appreciate it if you treat me in a professional manner.” These were her exact words. If she wanted me to be professional I would give her that.

Andrea nodded. “Yes, sir. The jet will be ready for take-off at 6 in the evening. I’ve booked you and Miss Lewis at The Lavinia Hotel and a car will be waiting for you at the airport when you arrive.”

“Good. Inform Kate that Ben will pick her up tomorrow.” I said dismissing her.

After she left I thought about the trip. For the millionth I asked myself if I had made the right decision in hiring Kate. There was no doubt that she would do a wonderful work on the hotel. I was afraid for me.

Like Nathan said, I had always let my guard down where she was concerned. She was proving to be my biggest weakness and I needed to be very careful around her. The last thing I wanted was to repeat the same mistake I did when I was 18. I had a feeling the three days in Bali were going to be the longest days of my life.

👩‍❤️‍👨 My Ex My Lover EPISODE ELEVEN: 💞❣️

    Kate POV 💋

“Well honey, what is it?” Peter checked his watch and sighed impatiently. “You know I have some work to finish before my flight tomorrow.”

I wiped my damp palms on the napkin and took a deep breath, thinking how I could tell him what I had done.

“I…I don’t know how to start.” I finally said, wishing I had told him over the phone instead of waiting till he came.
“Did something happen?” Peter looked worried now and I had his full attention.
    “I did something terrible.”

“Don’t tell me you went shopping again.” There was a disappointed look on his face. We were saving for the wedding and the last time I was in the mall I had spent an outrageous amount on two pair of shoes. Peter was not happy.

    “No, nothing like that.”

“Good. You have no idea how much the catering costs these days. I think we should elope instead of spending a bunch on feeding all the wedding guests.”
    “Honey, I…”

He cut me off with a grin. “I know, I know. You want a big wedding. Don’t worry, eloping is out of the question. My mother would have a heart attack. She has been dreaming to see me get married and if…”
“I cheated on you.” I blurted out.

Peter stared at me in shock and his face went stark white. “What…what are you talking about?”

Oh God, it was harder than I had thought. There was a lump in my throat and my eyes filled with tears of guilt and shame. I had to do this. He deserved to know everything. I started at the beginning from where I had the drunk kiss with Jason to the incident in his office two days ago.

There was silence when I finished. Peter was staring at me with so much hurt and pain in his eyes and my heart broke at what I was making him go through. His face was flushed with anger. “Why?” He asked finally.

I wiped the tears on my face with the back of my hand. Why? Why did I do that to him? I didn’t have any answer to that. “I’m so sorry.”

He got up suddenly, sending his chair flying back. Without saying anything he walked and I heard the front door slam shut behind him.

He didn’t return by nightfall and I was worried. He didn’t answer his phone and I left messages asking him if he was all right and begging him to come home to talk. I was going crazy by the time it was 11 in the evening. I needed to talk to someone and contemplated on calling Hal. He was visiting his parents in Texas and then I gave up on the idea. He would come straight back to LA if I told him and I didn’t want to ruin the last few days of his vacation.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

I tried Peter’s cell again and this time he cut it off at on the third ring. At least now I knew he was all right. My head ached and downing an Advil with a glass of water I went to bed. Burying my face in the pillow I let the tears flow. I didn’t know when I fell asleep but I was woken up much later by a sound in the bedroom.
“Peter?” I sat up groggily in bed and blinked in the darkness of the room. I turned on the bedside lamp and yelped when I saw him sitting next to me on the bed. His eyes were red and his hair was sticking out.

“Are you drunk?” I asked as the smell of cheap alcohol hit my face.

    “Why?”

“You smell like…” I trailed off on a cry as he grabbed my arms in a death grip.

“Why did you do this to me?” He snarled, his fingers were biting into my flesh.
I winced trying to break free. “You’re hurting me.”

“I gave you everything.” He continued not hearing me. ” I never did anything to hurt you.”

    “I’m sorry for…”

He cut me off again. “Do you love me?” He let go off my arms and his hand wrapped around my hair.

“Y…Yes.” I gasped out as the grip on my hair tightened. A trickle of fear went down my spine and my eyes watered with pain.

With a violent oath, he shoved me back hard against the headboard.

He plunged at me and kissed me hard. He tasted of alcohol and cigarettes and I gagged but he didn’t notice. His hands were punishing and violent as he cupped my breasts. I was frozen with shock and fear.

When he forcefully nudged my thighs apart and reached between my legs, I realized in panic what he intended to do.
“No. Stop.” I tried to push him away but he didn’t budge. “Please. Stop.” I cried out as he shoved his fingers under the satin shorts I wore.

“You’re my fiancée. I can touch you whenever I want.” He slurred angrily. “Or is it that bastard Perez who can only touch you?”

He let go of my hand to tug my shorts down but I took that opportunity to push him away with all the strength I could muster. He staggered back, almost falling backwards on the bed. He was breathing hard, the anger on his face visible even in the dim light. For a moment, I was scared he would reach for me again. But he got up and stormed out of the bedroom.

I remained frozen in bed, too shocked by his actions. Fear left a metallic taste in my mouth. I felt sick to my stomach. He had never acted that way before. Never been physically abusive. In fact, even in bed, he was never rough, always preferring to be slow and gentle with me.
I realized I had driven him to his breaking point. I had done this to him. I wanted to go out and check on him, since he was drunk, but I didn’t want to face him after what happened. Hopefully, he would sober up by morning and we could talk.
Next morning, I walked into the kitchen to find him sitting at the counter. A coffee mug was in front of him.

He looked up when I walked in. “Can we talk?”

I nodded nervously. What was he going to say?

“I’m sorry about last night. I was not myself.” He couldn’t meet my eyes. “I had too much to drink. And all I could think of was his hands on you. I just lost my head there for a while.” He finally looked at me and I saw the shame and remorse on his face.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

I nodded unable to speak. Silence stretched between us.

Finally, after what felt like minutes, he spoke. “Do you like him?”

    “No.”

Silence fell again. He raked a hand through his curly blonde hair. “Then why did you do it?”

    I swallowed hard. “It just…happened.”
“Is it going to happen again?”

I shook my head vehemently. “No.”

Again, there was deafening silence. He took his time talking. “I need time to trust you again.”

It was the last thing I expected him to say and I stared at him. “You’re not going to walk away?”

His face flushed with anger. “Is that what you want?”

    “No, absolutely not.”

“You could have lied to me and kept me in the dark but you chose to be honest with me. This is why I’m going to try. But if we are going to move past this you’re going to have to prove it to me that I can trust you again.”

“I’ll do anything.” It was true, I would do anything he asked to save our relationship.

“Okay.” He was silent for a few seconds. “Did you sign the contract?”
“No. And I’m not going to.”
    “What about your career?”

“It isn’t as important to me as this.” I said slowly. “I made a huge mistake and I’m ready to do what it takes to make things work between us.”

He sighed, pain flashing in his eyes. “You hurt me, Kate. You broke my heart and I don’t know if I could ever get over it.” When I tried to talk, he held up a hand. “But I love you, despite what you have done, and I don’t want your career to be ruined.”

    “What…what do you mean?”

“I want you to accept the project.”

    “What?” I asked incredulously. “I don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“Why, because you are sure you won’t be able stay away from him?”

    “No.” I said quickly.

“Then prove it to me. If you don’t feel anything for him then you wouldn’t have any problems working for him.”

I stared at him, dumbfounded. What he was asking of me didn’t make sense.
“I’m trying here, Kate. Give me something so that I could start trusting you again.” He looked so torn and helpless that I bowed my head down in shame. Peter was still being so nice to me, and trying to work it out between us and here I was being selfish again. But what he was asking was impossible. I didn’t want to see Jason again. I wanted to be as far away from him as possible.

“If I accept it then I have to spend quite some time alone with him. Even fly out to Bali together.” I wanted Peter to change his mind. He frowned thinking and there was pain on his face as he closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them again there was anger reflected in them.

“I know that. Do you think it’s easy for me? It breaks my heart to know that you wanted another man. I can’t go on everyday wondering if you still think of him or if you would do it again if you got the chance.”

“I did a mistake, Peter. An unforgivable one. I’m not going to repeat it again. Please believe me.” I begged wishing I could take all his pain away and at the same time hating myself for being unfaithful.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“How can I believe that? I thought of you as the one person who would never hurt me like this.” His voice broke and he pressed his knuckles to eyes. “But I would never hurt you. I don’t want to ruin your career. I don’t want to take it from you. ” He rubbed a hand on his face.
The tears in my eyes spilled over. I hurt him and he was still thinking about me and my future. I didn’t deserve a man like him.

I went to him and put my arms around him. He flinched at the touch and my heart broke into a million pieces knowing what was going through his mind.

He pulled away from me. “I can’t. When you touch me all I can think about is your hands on him.”

I bit my lips hard to stifle the sob that escaped me. What have I done?

“I’m flying back to Chicago in an hour.” He got up. “Call…..Jason.” He said Jason’s name with so much difficulty I knew how hard it was for him to say it. “Tell him you want the project.”

“Will you call me?” My voice was shaky and I held on to the back of a chair for support.

    “I need time.”

There was no good-bye kiss or one of his bone crushing hugs. He simply nodded and walked out of the kitchen leaving me standing there. I let the tears flow freely.
I had ruined everything. He was giving me a second chance, which was a miracle, because I sure as hell didn’t deserve one. He loved me so much he was willing to allow me to work for Jason. I still couldn’t believe it. I didn’t want to take the project but it was the only way I could gain Peter’s trust. I would prove it to him that I could work for Jason and not repeat the mistakes I did.

👩‍❤️‍👨 My Ex My Lover EPISODE TEN: 💞❣️

    Jason POV 💋

I had screwed up. I thought furiously as I watched her go. Why did I have to act like a horny idiot all the time around her? Even as I chastised myself I knew the answer to that. Whenever she was near all I could think about was touching her. Lust was a dangerous thing, I knew but I couldn’t stop myself from wanting her the way I did.

Walking into the adjacent bathroom, I splashed some water on my face in an attempt to calm myself. My throbbing lip stung and I glanced at the mirror, noting that my lower lip was swollen from her bite. There were faint red lines on my neck from where her nails had dug in.
She was so responsive to my touch, so wild, and I felt my body tightening again. Cursing under my breath, I wiped my face with a face towel and walked back into the cabin.

I was trying to go through some paper work when Andrea walked in with some documents I had asked. Her gaze lingered on my swollen lip.

“Can I get some ice for you, sir?” She asked.

I shook my head. “No, that’s alright.”
She nodded and didn’t say anything else.
Andrea was one of the most professional people I had ever worked with. She minded her own business, never flirted, and did all her work efficiently. When I held the interviews for my assistant position, she was the only one who didn’t seem intimidated by me and that was why I had hired her. Over the last three years she had shown me that I had made the right choice in choosing her.

“Is there anything else, Sir?” She asked before leaving.

“Cancel all my appointments for today.”

    “Very well, Sir.”

I knew it was useless trying to work when thoughts of Kate wouldn’t leave me alone. I was afraid that after what happened between us today she wouldn’t accept the hotel project. I had to apologize to her and make her accept it. Since I didn’t have her address, I told Andrea to find it out.

Ten minutes later, I was in the car heading over to Kate’s place. When Ben pulled over in front of her building, I jumped out of the car and walked inside. As I rang the bell of her apartment, I realized I was nervous. It was a feeling that was so foreign to me I frowned.

It was how Kate found me when she opened the door. She looked shocked to find me on her doorstep. I saw her entire body tense and she gave me a wary look. “What do you want?”

It took a moment for me to answer. She was wearing an oversized hoodie and frayed jeans. Her red hair was pulled into a messy bun high on her head and loose tendrils framed her face. She looked so beautiful that I ached to touch her but I shoved that thought away.

“Aren’t you going to invite me in?” I asked finally.

She gave me a look that said that was the last thing she wanted.

I sighed. She wasn’t going to make this easy on me. “I just need two minutes of your time.”

She glowered at me before holding the door wide open. Relief flooded through me and I walked in. For a moment there, I thought she was going to slam the door in my face. The apartment was small but it was decorated tastefully with vibrant colors. It matched her personality. A couple of candles were lit and the whole place smelled of vanilla.

    “Nice place.”

She folded her hands across her chest. “How did you get my address?”

“Never mind that. You and I need to talk.”
Her lips thinned at my dismissal of the question.

“I want to apologize for what happened today.” I started and when she still remained silent I continued. “I know I promised not to touch you and I went back on my word. I’m sorry. Can we just forget about all that and move on?”
“This isn’t a game, Jason. I’m not your plaything. You can’t just do whatever you want and then apologize.”

I clenched my jaw in irritation. She was making it sound like I had forced her to kiss me. Okay, so I made the first move but she sure as fuck didn’t resist. I sighed rubbing a hand on my face. But it was more my fault than hers. I hated to admit it but it was true.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“Look, I said I’m sorry. It’s never going to happen again.”

There was a finality in her eyes that made me wary. “Yes. It’s never going to happen because I don’t ever want to see you again.”

“What the hell does that mean?” I tried to hold on to my temper.

“Okay let me make this clear for you. Stay. Away. From. Me.”

I had never seen her so angry before. She looked so damn beautiful. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes shone and her mouth…! Fuck! Her mouth was parted, and her usually pale lips were red, no doubt caused by the flush of anger. I was instantly distracted, an image of her on her knees forming in my mind. Startled at the thought, I immediately tore my gaze away from her mouth. How could I even think something like that in a situation like this?

Clearing my throat, I pushed my hands deep in my pant pockets. “What about the hotel project?”

She hesitated, her expression showing how much she wanted it. “I can’t work for you anymore.” Her voice wavered.

I stared at her, stunned that she said no to me. Didn’t she know how many people would kill for a chance to do the interior of one my hotels? Moretti Interiors was currently the world’s best interior firms. One call from me and they would drop everything to jump at the chance to work for me.

I chose Kate not because my dick wanted to keep her close to me. I chose her because I liked her work. She had the talent and energy that I wanted. Her ideas were fresh and unique and she was passionate. Her style was a mixture between modern and classic, thrown in with a hint of bohemian style. And that was exactly what I was looking for.

And I wanted her to have this chance to make a name for herself in her field. When we were dating in high school, she would spend hours telling me about her dreams of being one of the best interior designers in the world. I remembered being impressed with her talent and passion even then.

“I’m offering you a golden opportunity here, Kate.” I said finally, hoping she would change her mind. “This would make your career. You can’t seriously be thinking of letting this chance go.” When she remained silent, I exhaled in frustration. “You’ve always wanted to be a renowned interior designer. It’s what you wanted ever since you were a kid. Just don’t let what happened between us get in the way of your dreams.”

Her posture was still stiff and tension rolled off her in waves. Raising a hand to her face she pinched the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes for a second.
When she looked at me again, there was a haunted look on her face. “You know, my father used to cheat on my mom all throughout their marriage. It wasn’t just one woman. He had numerous affairs. Mom went through sheer agony when she found out. It completely broke her apart. And I promised myself I would never be like him. Never hurt anyone I loved like that.”

I had a feeling where she was going with that and I was suddenly very uncomfortable. “Kate…”

“But now I know,” She continued with a shaky breath, “I’m exactly like him, a cheater. If I weren’t then I wouldn’t have let you touch me. I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did.”

Hearing her say she enjoyed my touch was so damn satisfying but I ignored it. There was so much self-disgust on her face and knowing I was the reason for it made me feel like shit. “I’m sorry. I can’t change what happened between us but I’m giving you my word now. I’m not going to do anything you don’t want me to do. ”
“I don’t trust you or your word.”

That was a low blow. I kept my sudden anger in check and decided to ignore her jibe. “You’re making too much of a rash decision right now. Just take a couple of days and think about it.”

    “There’s nothing to think about.”

“Two days, Kate.” I said firmly. “I’ll be expecting your call.” And with that I walked out of her apartment.

    💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
    Kate POV 💋
I watched Jason leave, feeling a mixture of anger and frustration. I didn’t need to think about my decision. Working for him was out of the question. And despite how much I wanted it, I knew the right thing was to walk away before it was too late. Before I did something I stupid.

Because as much as I hated to admit it, I knew if Jason were to touch me again, I wouldn’t be able to resist him. When I was with him I seemed to forget everything. I seemed to forget that I was engaged. When I said I didn’t trust his word, it wasn’t entirely true. It was me I didn’t trust. I didn’t trust myself around him.

Groaning, I flopped down on the couch and pressed my face to a cushion. I hated myself for what I had done to Peter. And I knew when he learned the truth about me, about what I had done, he would hate me as much, if not more.

    💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
The next day, I sat curled up on the couch watching an old movie that was showing on HBO. It was late in the evening. James Dean’s handsome face stared at me back from the television screen but my mind was not on the movie.

I was thinking about how I was going to come clean to Peter. He had flown back to LA earlier that afternoon for a sudden meeting with an important client. He was still at the meeting and when he came home I was going to tell him everything.
As if on cue, I heard the sound of a key in the front door. “Honey?” Peter’s voice came from the hallway.

    “I’m here.” I called back.

He came in and dropped his briefcase on the coffee table before sitting next to me. “Hey.” He pressed a quick kiss to my lips. He looked distracted as if something was on his mind.

“How was the meeting?” I asked knowing that was the reason for his serious look.
    “It didn’t go too well.”

“Oh. I’m sorry. Want to talk about it?”
He shook his head. “I’m too exhausted. I want to sleep. Let’s talk tomorrow, okay?”

    “Okay.”

“You coming to bed?” He asked standing up.

“Yeah.” I turned off the tv and followed him. After he finished using the bathroom, I went into freshen up. I stared at myself in the mirror as I brushed my teeth.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

I looked tired and haggard. But it was the guilty look in my eyes that stood out. I wanted to talk to Peter but he was in no mood to talk. And after how his meeting went, I didn’t want to make him feel worse than he did at the moment. He had told me he was staying for one more day in LA so I still had time.

Peter was already in bed when I stepped out of the bathroom. He was using his phone but he put it away when I approached.

“I forgot to ask. How did your meeting with Jason Perez go yesterday?”

I was glad the light in the room was dim because at his question the blood drained from my face. Here was the perfect opening to tell him everything but I felt myself getting cold feet. “It was..I..” I trailed off not knowing what to say but luckily, I was saved by an incoming call on his phone.

He glanced at it and then pulled the covers off him. “It’s my boss. I need to take this.” He said hopping out of bed and walking out of the bedroom. The relief that surged through me was so great I felt ashamed. I promised myself I would tell him everything the following day..

    LA, CA
    Kate POV 💋
I sat on my couch, arms wrapped around my knees, as I tried to gouge out the reaction on Peter’s face. I had just told him about the hotel project and he hadn’t said anything so far. By the frown on his face, I knew he was deep in thought.
Peter had flown in from Chicago for the weekend and as soon as he arrived, I had told him about the offer from Jason.
“I don’t understand why Jason Perez would want to hire you for this.” He said finally.

That was not what I expected him to say. Was he doubting my ability? “And what does that mean?”

“I’m not saying you can’t do it.” He said noting the edge in my voice. “It’s just that you don’t have much experience in handling such huge projects. But if he thinks you are the perfect person for the job, then it doesn’t matter.”

“So you’re okay with me working for him?”
“Well, you already accepted his offer without consulting with me first, didn’t you?” He said it with a smile but I could sense the disapproval in his voice. I hated to admit it but Hal was right. Peter felt as if he could dictate everything in my life. Maybe the fault was mine for letting him get away with it for the past two years.

“I don’t actually feel fine with you working for him, considering he is your ex-boyfriend.” He continued. “But it’s a golden opportunity for your career and I understand how important that is. And it’s not like I have anything to worry about.”

    “What do you mean?”

“If this was any other man, I would have been worried about him coming on to you.” He laughed as if he was telling a joke. “But he’s Jason Perez. I’ve seen his picture splashed all over tabloids with different women on his arm. So it’s not like he’s going to be interested in someone like you when he has all those women at his service.”

    “Someone like me?”

“Oh, you know what I mean, honey.” He said quickly. “He’s well known for dating actresses and models. You both might have dated a long time ago but I think it’s safe to say you’re definitely not his type anymore.”

I wondered if he knew how insulting his words sounded. But then I pushed the thoughts away. He was right anyway.
Peter’s phone rang at that moment and he answered it instantly. “Yes. I’m about to leave. I’ll see you in twenty.” He ended the call and reached for his overnight bag which was on the floor beside the couch.

“You’re leaving?” I asked incredulously. “But you just got here.”

“I told you some colleagues from work are also here in LA. I told them I would join them for lunch today. And after that we are meeting up with some lawyers who work in a firm here. I’ll be back before dinner.”

Disappointment rolled through me in waves. “We haven’t seen each other in over a month, Peter. I thought this weekend was supposed to be our time together, just us.”

“We’ll spend the day together tomorrow. I promise.” He took out a small velvet box from his bag. “Here, this is for you. I know I forgot our anniversary, and I’m sorry about that, but I hope this makes up for it.”

I opened the box to find a pair of silver earrings nestled in the black velvet. It was shaped like a heart with a diamond in the center.

“Don’t you like it?” Peter asked when I continued staring at it.

“It’s beautiful. Really. Thank you. But…”
    “But what?” He asked impatiently.

I sighed meeting his gaze. “I’m allergic to silver, remember?”

“Dammit. I’m sorry. I completely forgot to tell Athena about that.”

The mention of his assistant made me frown. “She picked it up for me? Not you?”

“You know I don’t have time for mundane tasks like jewelry shopping. I asked her to choose something. Women are more knowledgeable when it comes to jewelry anyway.” He took the box from me. “I’ll get her to exchange this for a gold pair.”

He couldn’t even be bothered to take time out of his schedule to choose an anniversary gift for me. Another sign how his work was more important to him than me. Or maybe I was just overreacting. He was a busy man.

“There’s something else I want to tell you.” I said as Peter got ready to head out for lunch with his colleagues.
“Can’t it wait till I get back? I don’t want to be late.”

“Later then.” Despite what Hal told me, I wasn’t going to hide the fact that I kissed Jason. I wanted to come clean with Peter, even if there was a chance that he would tell me to give up the hotel project.

He dropped a quick kiss to my lips. “I’m sorry I have to go now. But I’ll make it up to you tomorrow. Okay?” When I nodded, he kissed me briefly again.

    💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

I should have known Peter couldn’t follow through his promise of making it up to me. He spent the whole of Sunday glued to his laptop and phone. His excuse was some new evidence had come up in a case he was defending so he needed to prepare himself before he appeared in court Tuesday.

On Sunday evening, Jason’s assistant called me to set up a meeting for the next day at 9.

Guilt was eating me up alive as I got ready on Monday morning. Since Peter had been too wrapped up in work, I hadn’t got a chance to tell him anything that happened on the cruise. The worst part was, there was a small part of me that was glad that I didn’t get the chance. My subconscious kept telling me that I was horrible for choosing my career over being honest to Peter.

Pushing the guilty thoughts away, I got dressed in a pale pink, long sleeved silky blouse tucked into a grey pencil skirt. Slipping my feet into a pair of nude stiletto pumps, I grabbed my bag and walked out of the bedroom.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

Peter was sitting at the kitchen counter and he looked up from his coffee. His eyebrows furrowed in disapproval. “Whoa, honey. Don’t you think that’s a bit inappropriate for work?”

I glanced down at my skirt which rested a couple of inches above my knee. Honestly, I couldn’t see anything wrong with it. The skirt and shoes showed off my legs but I looked decent and professional. It was not like I was wearing a mini skirt.

The last thing I wanted was to start the day off with an argument. So, I pulled down on the hem of the skirt and glanced at him. “Do you want me to change?”

“There isn’t time.” He frowned. “But you’re not wearing that again.”

I bit my tongue. Now was not the time to tell him I was fed up with him dictating my life.

Peter always rented a car when visiting and since I didn’t own a car, he dropped me off at Perez Enterprises on his way to the airport.

I walked to the entrance of the imposing tower and took a deep breath before walking inside through glass revolving doors. I looked in awe at my surrounding and took in the cream and gold marble mosaic floor and the big chandelier hung above. The interior of the reception was done in vibrant colors, patterns and styles of Roman and European architecture.
Clutching my bag tightly, I went to the huge marble reception counter.

A beautiful brunette who looked as if she had just walked out of a glossy magazine looked up and gave a professional smile. “Good morning, ma’am. How may I help you?” Her voice even sounded exotic.

Clearing my throat, I smiled at her politely. “Good morning. I have a meeting with Mr. Jason Perez. I’m Kate Lewis.”

She tapped on the keyboard of her computer and then handed me a visitor pass. “You can take the elevator to the 50th floor, Ms. Lewis.” I heard her on the phone letting someone know I was on my way as I walked away.

I got off of the elevator at the 50th floor and found myself in another reception area, which was decorated in shades of white and black and gave off a modern and sleek look. The walls were white and devoid of any artwork.

“Ms. Lewis. Welcome.” Another beautiful woman approached me. She offered me a professional smile. “I’m Andrea Stannis, Mr. Perez’s executive assistant. He is expecting you. If you’ll follow me, please.”
“Thank you.” I croaked out, intimidated by her beauty. Was this a modeling agency that I had walked into?

Andrea ushered me into Jason’s cabin which was at the end of the hallway. Jason was sitting behind his deck, staring intently at his computer screen.

“Kate.” He looked up and came around the desk to greet me. Dressed in a dark navy suit and white crisp shirt, he looked so incredibly sexy that for a moment, I forgot to even breath.

On the cruise, he had seemed approachable with his casual clothes and windblown hair. But seeing him now, from his impeccably styled hair to the tip of his Italian shoes, he looked every inch the billionaire CEO that he was. There was an intimidating aura around him and he looked dangerous and formidable.

“You okay?” He asked when I remained gawking at him. There was a hint of amusement in his brilliant blue eyes. I nodded quickly, but couldn’t stop the flush that spread on my face.

He led me to a set of black lush sofas at one end of his cabin. The spacious room was decorated in black and white and the glass wall behind his desk gave a spectacular view of the city below.

We spent an hour further discussing the project. He told me I would be provided with a team of five employees who would be working under me. “They are all temporary employees specifically hired to work on this project. They will be reporting to you personally. You’ll get to meet them in our next meeting.”

He handed me a file. “This is the contract. Go through it and see if there’s anything you would like to be changed.”

I opened the file and scanned the pages. The project duration was 10 months as discussed. My eyes widened when I saw the payment clause. Jason had asked me about the fee in our previous meeting but I had told him it was up to him to decide what to pay me. “I think there’s a mistake.”

He frowned. “I went through it personally. What is it?”

I showed him and he chuckled. “There’s nothing wrong there.”

“But it’s too much, Jason.” I chewed on my lips worriedly.

His eyes lingered on my lips and I saw something flash in his eyes before he tore his gaze away. “It’s a big project and I expect you to spend every waking moment on it for the next 10 months. You’ll be so over worked I think you’ll even demand a higher payment than that.” He teased.

“I’m not afraid of the work load. It’s just that I don’t deserve this amount.”

“Kate.” He sighed. “Why do you have such a low opinion of yourself?”

I opened my mouth but couldn’t say anything.

“You have the talent and I trust you to do an excellent job so I’m paying you what I know you deserve. So just shut up and go through the rest of the contract.”

I sent him a frosted look and continued to read it. “Where do I sign?” I said coolly after I finished it. was still sitting next to me and I refused to look at him.

He leaned in close and a whiff of his cologne teased my senses. Without even being aware of what I was doing, I took a deep breath, taking in his scent deeper.
His arm was almost brushing against mine and I told myself I should shift away but couldn’t move. I glanced at him but his eyes were on the contract as he pointed to the place where he needed my signature.

It occurred to me that if I moved my head only a few inches, my lips would be touching his jaw. Awareness prickled my skin. My gaze dropped to his mouth.
He had such beautiful lips. The bottom lip fuller than the top. The kind of lips that brought wicked thoughts to my mind. Thoughts a woman engaged to another man had no business thinking.

I tore my gaze away from his mouth quickly and flushed in embarrassment when I saw him staring at me. The heat in his eyes sent my temperature rising. It was so intense.

Warning bells went off in my head. I knew I should have moved away but it seemed as if he held me in a trance.

He suddenly reached out and tucked the wispy tendril that was flying around my face behind my ear. I shivered as his fingers brushed against my ears.

“Jason.” My voice came out sounding breathless. I wanted to tell him to stop but the words were stuck to my throat. How could he do this to me with such a simple touch?

He slowly brushed his thumb over my lower lip all the while holding my gaze. I had to bite the inside of my cheek hard to stifle the gasp.

The air between us crackled with static and his blue eyes darkened. His hand slipped behind my neck, drawing me forward.

“I love the way your breathing changes as soon as I touch you.” He whispered before closing the distance between us and capturing my bottom lip with his teeth. The gasp I was holding in escaped and my pulse went wild. He started nibbling on my lips lazily, leaving little bites and sending sharp stings of pleasure straight to my core.

I couldn’t think, my body was consumed with his scent and the feelings his kiss was arousing in me. I didn’t remember moving my hands but they were fisted in his hair as I pulled him close, silently demanding he deepen the kiss.

With a groan, he pulled me across his lap and gave me what I wanted. One of his hand was in my hair while the other hand slipped under my shirt and claimed my breast roughly over my bra. The sudden jolt that went through me had me moaning into his mouth. His lips were rough on mine, kissing me hungrily and greedily. When his fingers trapped my nipple between them I bit on his lip to stifle the cry of pleasure.

I was so lost in the feelings he aroused in me that the sound of the phone ringing took a while to register. With a gasp, I broke the kiss and as my mind started functioning again, the enormity of what I was doing came crashing down on me. Guilt came in multiple folds and I scrambled away from him as if stung.

    “Kate.”
I didn’t look at him as I adjusted my clothing. Oh God. What the hell have I done?

Strong hands gripped my arms and he turned me around to face him. The self-disgust and anger I had inside me was momentarily forgotten as I stared at his face in shock. His lower lip was red and swollen where I had bitten.

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry.” I automatically reached out touched his lip tentatively. He inhaled sharply and he had a look of pain on his face. “Does it hurt?” Idiot. Of course, it did.

“If you continue to touch me like that then I’ll have no choice but to drag you back to that sofa and finish what we started.”

I drew my hand back immediately and flushed. “This is wrong.”

His face was tight and he looked angry. “Why are you scared of admitting that you want me as much as I want you?”

“I don’t want this. “Because it was so easy to lessen the guilt by blaming him I looked at him accusingly. “You promised me that you wouldn’t touch me.”

“I didn’t hear you complaining when you were moaning my name.” He shot back furiously.

Shame filled me and the anger I felt for him evaporated like smoke. He was right. I could have pushed him away but as soon as he touched me I melted against him. I had to get out of here. I needed to be alone.

“Where the hell are you going? We are not done with this conversation.” Jason growled as I took my bag and headed to the door.

“There’s nothing to talk about.” I didn’t look at him as I walked out of his office.

    Kate POV 💋 💋

The Crown Bar was located on the top deck of the ship, which was strictly accessible to only first class passengers. And after Nathan had my suite upgraded, I was instantly raised from regular to VIP guest status, thus giving me access to all areas of the cruise ship.

Walking inside, I immediately looked around trying to spot Jason, hoping he was still there. He had asked me to meet him there after dinner, but now it was an hour after dinner ended so there was a chance he might have left.

The sound of conversation, laughter, and soft sultry jazz music floated around and I walked further into the lounge. It looked as if a party was in progress. Uniformed servers were carrying trays of champagne and hors d’oeuvres, offering them to guests.

The women were clad in glamorous gowns and dripping with diamonds and pearls while the men sported suits and dinner jackets. It suddenly registered on me that I was horribly underdressed in my yellow off shoulder summer dress and flat strappy white sandals.

I stood there awkwardly wondering where Jason was when I spotted glass sliding doors that were opened to reveal a balcony. Declining a glass of champagne from a server, I hurriedly made my way out to the balcony, hoping I could find Jason there.

As I stepped out, a cool salty breeze hit my face and I welcomed it gratefully. There weren’t many people on the balcony and it didn’t take long for me to spot Jason.

He was sitting on a velveteen sofa in a corner and he wasn’t alone. A scantily dressed blonde sat on his lap while a brunette sat glued to his side. The blonde had one arm around his neck and the brunette was playing with his hair.
I stood rooted to the spot, so stunned by what I was seeing. The magazines portrayed Jason as one of the world’s most notorious playboys but I had never actually considered everything they published about him to be true. But seeing him with two women at once, I suddenly realized the media hadn’t been exaggerating about him.

I shouldn’t be shocked. I told myself quickly. Jason had been a playboy even in school, using me for his own amusement so it shouldn’t surprise me that he had grown up to be such a womanizer.

It took a moment for me to realize Nathan was also sitting across from him. He had two identical twins draped over him. Another playboy, just like Jason, I thought sighing. The two men didn’t seem to be paying much attention to the women almost mauling them, but appeared to be deep in conversation with each other.

Suddenly, Nathan looked up and spotted me. He said something and Jason turned his head around towards me. He lifted the blonde off his lap, placed her back on her feet and got up before making his way towards me.

“I expected you to come an hour ago.” He said stopping in front of me and thrusting his hands in the back pockets of his faded jeans. “When you didn’t, I thought you weren’t going to show up.”

“Dinner took a little bit longer than usual.” I shifted uncomfortably on my feet. “I can come back later. You’re obviously busy.”
A hint of a smirk played on his lips. “Now that you’re here, I’m all yours.”

I could feel my face heating up at his words. So to hide how flustered I was, I nodded towards the women who were watching us like hawks. No doubt, they were pissed off at me for the interruption. “Are you sure they won’t mind?”

“Don’t worry about them. They are not important.”

His words and attitude were further proof that he treated women like toys, discarding them when he was bored. I despised men like that but as I stared at Jason, all I could think of was how utterly gorgeous he was, too sexy to be put into words even. Even knowing that he used women, as I had experienced firsthand, I couldn’t hate him. Maybe something was not right in my head.

Nathan walked up to us at that moment. “Kate, how lovely to see you again.” He smiled warmly, pressing a quick kiss to my cheek. “I trust you’re enjoying your stay?”

“More than I can say. All thanks to you.” I returned his smile. We continued to talk for a while and all along I was very aware of four sets of eyes shooting daggers at me. Looking over Jason’s shoulder, I realized I was right. The four women looked as if they wouldn’t hesitate in tearing me into pieces. I almost felt sorry for ruining their night by snatching Jason and Nathan’s attention away from them.

After Nathan excused himself, Jason suggested that we head to his suite.
I stared at him with wide eyes and he chuckled. “Don’t look so stricken. It’s the only place where we won’t be interrupted while we discuss the hotel project. I have no ulterior motive.” He added the last part with a smirk.

“Okay.” I was slightly embarrassed for having thought the worst of his suggestion. He took my elbow as he guided me towards the door. Ben seemed to materialize out of nowhere and fell into step in front of us, making a path for us through the crowd of people.
“Does he accompany you wherever you go?” I asked curiously.

    “He’s my bodyguard so yeah.”
I wondered how it would feel to have a security detail following me wherever I went, watching my every move. Just then the blonde from earlier, who was sitting on Jason’s lap, appeared at our side.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

She reached out to grab his arm but Ben intercepted quickly, stepping between Jason and her. I couldn’t hear what Ben said to her because Jason quickened his pace, pulling me along with him.

“So Ben’s main role is to protect you from female advances.” I commented dryly as we stepped out of the lounge.

He flashed a full grin and the sexy dimples appeared beneath the light stubble. “A jealous woman is more dangerous than an armed man.”

It occurred to me that the woman was jealous of me. She probably thought Jason was interested in me. Which couldn’t be far from the truth. Sure, he was flirtatious at times but I knew he was that way with all the women. A certified playboy like him had a never-ending line of women waiting on him. And I had witnessed him in action just ten minutes ago.

I wondered if I hadn’t arrived whether his evening would have ended with those women in his bed. That thought brought a flush to my face and I quickly shook my head to clear the unwelcome thoughts.
“You’re blushing.” He sounded amused. “What’s going on in that pretty head of yours?”

Ignoring the pretty part, I shrugged. “I’m just thinking if I ruined your plans for the night.” When he raised an eyebrow, I felt my face redden again and hastily clarified. “With those women, I mean.”
“I’m not into threesomes, Kate.” Amusement flashed in his eyes. He clearly read my mind. “I wasn’t planning on taking anyone of them to bed. Besides, they are not my type anyway.”

“Oh, what’s your type then?” The words slipped out before I could stop myself.
A wicked smirk touched the corner of his lips and his gaze slowly moved over me from head to toe. I swallowed hard, my entire body tingling from that heated look.

“You.” He finally raised his eyes to meet mine, and my breath caught at the dark intensity in them. A current of awareness crackled between us, sending my pulse galloping.

“Me?” My mouth was so dry it came out sounding like a croak.

He was silent for a few seconds, studying me with that intense gaze, but then he flashed a lazy grin. “I mean I prefer redheads.”

Of course. Redheads as in general. I felt foolish for thinking he actually meant me specifically. My face burnt with embarrassment. He chuckled softly, obviously enjoying my mortification.
We walked to his suite in silence. He seemed to be deep in thought while I was a nervous wreck. I was suddenly having second thoughts about being alone with him in his suite. But as soon as he ushered me into the presidential suite he occupied, my nervousness was replaced by awe.

It was tastefully decorated in shades of gold, cream and soft russet. Black Victorian furniture embroidered with gold designs were arranged artfully across the room and a crystal chandelier hung from the high ceiling.

“Drink?” Jason asked shrugging off his jacket and throwing it carelessly on a chair.

I struggled not to stare at the way the black shirt hugged his torso. “Just water, please.”

We sat at the sitting area in the suite with Jason’s laptop on the coffee table. While I sipped on my Evian, he started telling me about the Perez Hotel and Resort chain. He was so serious and I could see the business man in him as he talked.
The Perez chain had 5200 hotels and resorts scattered across the globe. They were categorized into sub-brands ranging from luxury, upscale, upper upscale, mid-scale to budget. The Bali resort was going to be midscale since it would be catering mostly to middle class travelers.
“The interior of almost all of the resorts and hotels are done by Moretti Interiors.” Jason explained as he showed me several pictures. “They are the best in the industry but I feel it’s time we go with something different rather their signature style.”

    “Different how?”
He told me what he had in mind for the hotel and I threw in my ideas, which he seemed to like very much. We were so wrapped up in our discussion that we didn’t even realize almost two hours had passed since we sat down.

“So what do you say? You up for this?” Jason asked with a smile.

It was on the tip of my tongue to say yes. He was offering me my dream and I was brimming with excitement. But there was a part of me that wondered whether I could take on such a huge project. The Perez brand was one of the most luxurious brands in the whole world and I felt it was way out of my league.

“Are you sure about this?” I asked. “I mean, I have never done anything so huge before.”

“I’m sure. If I didn’t think you could do this, I wouldn’t have offered.”

The conviction in his voice instantly wiped away any doubt I had in myself. I couldn’t hold back my excited smile as I nodded. “I’ll make sure I don’t let you down then.”

An answering smile tugged on his lips. “You won’t. I’m leaving to LA tomorrow morning but I’ll have my assistant call you in two weeks’ time to set up a meeting. We can go over the rest of the details then.”

After my meeting with Jason concluded, I immediately went to find Hal. He was in our suite.

“I said yes.” I flung myself into his arms excitedly. “I can’t believe this. To be honest, I still feel as if I’m dreaming.”
“Congratulations, hon. You definitely deserve this chance.” He was equally excited. “What’s next?”

“He said he’ll be in touch within two weeks.” I was literally jumping with exhilaration. But then suddenly Peter’s face flashed in my head and the wide smile on my face disappeared. I had completely forgotten about him.

    Hal noticed. “What’s wrong?”
“Peter knows about my past with Jason. He knows who he is. He wouldn’t be okay with me working for Jason.”

He sighed. “You don’t need Peter’s approval for everything, Kate.”

    “I know that.”
    “Do you really?”
“Hal…” I started knowing where it was going but he cut me off.
“You let him dictate your life. He tells you what to wear and what to do.”

    “He doesn’t…”
“There you go defending him again.” He shook his head. “If Peter was here, you wouldn’t be wearing that dress.” He said gesturing to my dress which reached midthigh. “He doesn’t approve of you wearing anything short.” He continued. “You stopped going clubbing because he told you not to. And you hate cooking but you’re trying to learn how to cook all these fancy dishes just to fit into his idea of how a perfect wife should be.”

I scowled at him. “I don’t like you at the moment, you know.”

“That’s because you know it’s the truth.” He shrugged. “Anyway, what I’m saying is, you don’t need to ask Peter’s permission to work for Jason.”

“Do I need to remind you that Jason’s my ex-boyfriend?”

“So what? That’s in the past.”

“What about the fact that I kissed him twice this week? That’s not the past. I can’t even imagine how Peter’s going to react when I tell him that.” I said guiltily.
“I honestly don’t understand why you’re thinking of telling him. I mean, it’s not like you slept with Jason. No need to make such a huge deal over a few kisses. On the other hand, if you tell him, there’s a chance he’ll break off the engagement.”
The hopeful look on his face made me punch his arm. “You’re a terrible friend.”
He grinned but then turned serious. “I just want you to be happy.”

“I am happy with Peter. He loves me.”
“If he truly loved you, he wouldn’t force you to live life the way he wants. I swear he is more in love with his work than you considering he always puts work first. This trip was supposed to be your anniversary celebration trip but he chose work over you again. And today is your anniversary but he hasn’t even bothered to call you or even send a text.”

I sighed knowing there was nothing I could say to defend Peter. Hal was right. Peter was a workaholic and even I felt as if I came second in his life. The fact that he hadn’t called me on our anniversary hurt more than I cared to admit. I had called him several times in the morning but it had gone straight to voicemail.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“You have the biggest opportunity of your career here.” Hal continued. “Don’t let it slip through your hands.”

I knew he was right. A chance to work for a luxury brand like Perez was something I had never dreamt I could get and I knew all the top interior designers in the world would jump at a chance like that.
I looked at Hal, torn. “So what should I do?”

He looked thoughtful. “You’re obviously attracted to Jason.” When I glared at him, he ignored me and continued. “It’s completely natural. I doubt any woman with a pulse would be immune to his sexy looks.”

“Are you going somewhere with this?”
“Let me finish.” He sighed. “I’m just saying, it’s just natural to react to an attractive person. And let’s be honest here, Jason Perez is the stuff wet dreams are made of.” He paused, as if he expected me to deny it. When I didn’t he gave a satisfied grin, and continued. “But feeling attracted to someone, and acting on it, are completely different things.”

“I don’t have any intention of acting on it.” I said quickly. “I can’t change what happened between us this past week but it’s not going to happen again. And I think he feels the same way too. We were in his suite, alone, for over two hours and he was nothing but professional.”

“Exactly. You know that nothing is going to happen again. So why don’t you just forget about those two kisses with him and just move on? There’s no need to tell Peter about it and create problems.”

I stared at him dumbfounded. “You’re telling me I should lie to Peter?”
“It’s not lying, precisely. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him. And besides, if you tell him, he will definitely tell you not to take on the hotel project and the biggest opportunity of your career will slip through your fingers.”

    “Oh, God, you’re terrible.”
“You know I’m right.” He just grinned. “Just think about it.”

    Jason POV 😘

    “So how was the dinner?”

I didn’t need to look at Nathan’s face to know that he was smirking at me. “Go away.”

“Is that how you show your gratitude to me?”

    “Gratitude for what?”

“For arranging the dinner so that you could swoop in and take my place.” He let out a long sigh then frowned when he saw the screen of my laptop. “What are you doing?”

“This Kate’s website. She’s an interior designer.” I tapped on the screen, showing him pictures of her work. “Look at these, she has a natural talent for interior designing.”

“Very tasteful. I should fire my interior designer and hire her.”

“Too late. I’m thinking of hiring her myself to work on the hotel in Bali.”

Nathan looked at me in silence. “Be careful, Jason. She broke your heart once. She could do it again.”

“This is just business. I’m not the same person I was 6 years ago.”

“You flew back here from LA as soon as the deal with Alderman was finalized.”

    “So?”

“No man would fly 13 hours just to have dinner with a woman who didn’t mean anything to him.”

I frowned thinking over his words. I had flown to LA, signed the hotel deal and again got back on my jet and flown back to St. Lucia to have dinner with Kate. I wouldn’t have gone to such extent for another woman.

“I just wanted to see her again. That’s all.” I shrugged, unwilling to think there was more to my actions. When he shot me a look of disbelief, I sighed. “Look, I won’t pretend that I’m not attracted to her. Hell, I spent the whole dinner with a fucking hard on. But she is engaged. To an asshole by the sound of it but nevertheless she is off-limits.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“I don’t think that’s going to stop you.”
“You have no faith in me, do you?” I scowled at him.

“If this was any other woman I would have believed you but it’s Kate. She’s the only one you’ve ever loved. After you both broke up, you’ve never been serious about a woman.”

“Well then I’ll just have to prove you wrong.”

“So what did you both talk about?”

“What are we, two high school girls?”
He laughed. “Oh c’mon, after all I went through to set you up for dinner with her I think I deserve to know a little bit.”

“Well, if u must know, Kate is appalled at the fortune you’re charging me to carry my car on board.”

“Did you tell her that you are not giving me a cent?”

“No.” I grinned at the dirty look he shot at me.

    💋💋💋💋

    Kate POV 😘

Hal woke me up in the middle of the night. I opened my eyes groggily. “This better be good.”

“Jason Perez? You went to dinner with The Jason Perez?” His eyes were as wide as saucers.

“Nathan couldn’t make it so he came in his place.” I mumbled into the pillow.
“You have no idea how shocked I was when I saw him at the door. My God, he looks so much better in real life.”

I sighed knowing Hal wouldn’t shut up for the next hour. When he was excited about something he could go on forever.

“Hal. Let me sleep.” I groaned hitting him with a pillow.

“Why aren’t you excited? One of the most eligible bachelors in the world just took you out on a date.”

“For the last time, it was not a date. Just dinner.” I sighed in exasperation. “And I’m in love with Peter. I’m not looking for another guy. Why can’t you understand that?”

    “I didn’t…”

“No, Hal. Listen to me. I know you don’t like Peter. But we are getting married. You’ll just have to accept that and be happy for me.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“I am happy for you but…” Instead of finishing the sentence, he exhaled slowly. “Let’s talk about this tomorrow. Sorry I woke you up. Go back to sleep.” He bent down and brushed his lips on my forehead before disappearing into the bathroom.

Groaning, I buried my head under a pillow. I shouldn’t have been so sharp with him. I knew he had his reasons for not liking Peter but his constant attempts to try and get me to notice other men were getting on my nerves.

Besides, I had been in a bad mood when I fell asleep. After dinner with Jason, I had come to my suite and found myself unable to get rid of his thoughts. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t stop thinking about him or our kiss.

I kept thinking I shouldn’t have gone out with him. I was feeling guilty, like I had betrayed Peter and spent hours tossing around in bed before I fell into a restless sleep. And then Hal had woken me up and started talking about Jason again.

    💋💋💋

The next morning, we were sitting by the pool after spending two hours swimming and doing a little bit of sight-seeing in St. Kitts. I was rubbing lotion on my legs, lost in thoughts when Hal cleared his throat.
“Something on your mind?” He was looking at me curiously. “You’ve been awfully quiet this morning.”

I decided it was time to come clean to him. I needed some advice anyway. The look of disbelief on his face was comical when I told him the mystery man I kissed when I was drunk was Jason Perez. And then I told him about the second kiss as well.

“I need a moment to process all this.” Hal said dazedly when I finished.

“There’s more.” I sighed. “Remember I told you about the guy I dated in high school?”

He scowled instantly. “Yeah. The bastard who broke your heart. What about him?”
    “Do you remember his name?”

“No. You never talked about him again after that first time you told me. What’s going on?”

I couldn’t help smiling, knowing he was going to flip out in a second. “Nothing much except that I went to dinner with him last night.”

He stared at me blankly for several seconds before his eyes widened. His mouth hung open and he was looking at me as if I had suddenly grown two heads or something. “You mean to tell me your asshole ex-boyfriend from school is the Jason Perez?”

    “One and the same.”

“No fucking way.” He stood up, rubbed a hand on his face, and sat down again, the look of shock still on his face.

“Are you done freaking out?” I asked grinning.

“Never. This is huge.” He shook his head. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“It didn’t seem important back then. I’m sorry I kept it from you.”

“I can’t believe this.” He grinned suddenly. “You dated Jason Perez. That is great.”

“Great?” He was definitely out of his mind. “You’re forgetting that he was a liar who broke my heart.”

“Well, yeah. But that’s the past. And if I remember correctly, you told me he apologized and admitted that despite the bet he made with his friends, he really liked you. He didn’t want to break up. It was you who dumped him.” He continued, his voice high with excitement. “And now he’s back in your life taking you out to dinner and all. I mean, he wouldn’t do that unless he’s interested in you.”

Now it was my turn to stare at him as if he had grown two heads. This was not how I expected him to react.

“It’s like destiny.” He continued. “Both of you coming here on this ship, together after all these years – it’s like the universe is giving you both a second chance.”

“You’re out of your mind.” I shot him a glare, dismissing his words. “Why are you suddenly on his side anyway? I seem to remember you telling me that if ever you came face to face with him, you would kick his ass for hurting me.”

“Yeah but I didn’t know his identity then.”
“So just because he turned out to be a hot shot billionaire, you suddenly change your mind?” I shook my head. “Your loyalty to me is admirable.”

He grinned, tugging on my hair. “I am loyal to you. As your best friend, it’s my duty to make you see things you’re too stubborn to see.”

    “And those are?”

“Well, for one, you’re attracted to Jason. Which you’re too stubborn to admit.” When I opened my mouth to protest, he continued smugly. “Don’t even try to deny it. The moment he appeared back in your life you came on to him.”

“I was drunk.” I said defensively.
“You weren’t drunk the second time.”
I bit my lip as a wave of guilt resurfaced again.

“Don’t beat yourself up over it.” Hal said reading the emotions on my face. “Even a straight man would have fantasies about him. He is that gorgeous.”

“That’s no excuse for me to turn to a puddle of hormones every time he is in the same damn room as me.” I muttered feeling disgusted. “Peter doesn’t deserve this. I can’t even imagine how he would react.”

“Wait. You’re going to tell him?”
I stared at Hal in surprise. “Of course. I’m not going to deceive him.”

“Or you could just let this go and not make a big deal out of it.”
    “That’s absurd. I can’t do that.” I was horrified. I couldn’t do that to Peter. I wasn’t that person.

“What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”
“We are not in Vegas.” I rolled my eyes.
He winked. “Vegas or Caribbean, the same rule applies.”

“You have no morals at all. Why am I even friends with you?”

“Holy fucking Hell.” Hal was looking over my shoulder with an awed look on his face. “Your lover boy is heading this way and he looks absolutely yummy.”

“He is not my lover boy.” I snapped and ignored the sudden urge to check my hair. What was wrong with me?
“I think I need a drink.” Hal grinned getting up from the lounger.

“Don’t you dare leave me alone with him.” I hissed panicking but Hal was already walking away. I should really start looking for a new best friend. I scowled at his retreating back.

A shadow fell over me and I looked up. My heart was already beating too fast but when my gaze collided with Jason’s gorgeous face, my heart beat sky rocketed. His hair was sexily windblown, eyes covered with blue mirrored sun shades. Dressed in a pair of green and blue striped swim shorts and a white short sleeved shirt, he looked as if he had walked straight out of an expensive beach wear advert.

He cleared his throat, a smirk tugging on his sensual lips and my face heated immediately, embarrassed to be caught checking him out again.

“Mind if I join you?” He asked, and then without waiting for my answer, seated himself on the lounger next to me.
    “Looks like you already have.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

He grinned, making my mouth go very dry. Those dimples should be illegal. It was lethal enough to stop any woman dead in her tracks and by the sudden heat coiling deep in my belly, I realized I wasn’t as unaffected as I was pretending to be.

He leaned over and reached for the book on my lap. As he took it, his knuckles brushed against my bare thigh and a jolt of awareness rushed through me. I inhaled sharply and his scent filled my senses. It seemed as if he had splashed on some tanning oil or sun block because he smelled faintly of coconut oil and cocoa butter with a hint of citrus undertone. Like a delicious summer treat.
“Recipes in a jar?” He looked surprised as he read the title of my book. “You hate cooking.”

So he remembered that about me. “I don’t but it’s time I learned.”
    “Because you’re getting married?”
“A wife should know how to cook.” I shrugged, my mind going to Peter. He wanted me to learn cooking before we got married. And even though, I hated cooking, I wanted to do it for him.
“It isn’t a gender specific skill.” He said with a small smile. “I think everyone should know the basic cooking skills to survive. If a wife is expected to know how to make a good meal then the same goes for the husband.”

“Well, my cooking skills are limited to spaghetti. I don’t think any man would want that three times a day.”

“I wouldn’t mind.” He grinned and my heart beat started galloping. Wouldn’t I ever get used to his smile?
“Says the man who is used to eating at the fanciest places.”

“Nothing beats a homemade meal.” He handed the book to me. “Have lunch with me.”

    “I-I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
He looked amused. “Why not? I’m not asking you on a date.”

I felt my face getting red. How could I tell him that being close to him affected me more than it should?

“I just want to talk to you about something.”
    “We are talking now.”

“Alright.” He shrugged. “I went through your portfolio last night. You’ve done some amazing work.”

“Thank you.” I was immensely pleased he liked my work. The Perez hotels and resorts were known for their luxurious and grand designs so coming from him, the words meant a great deal.

“I just bought a beach hotel in Bali.” He continued. “Usually I hire Moretti Interiors to work on any new additions to the hotel chain but this time I’m thinking of hiring a fresh new talent.”

His words took a moment to sink in. My eyes widened as I stared at him. Was he implying that he wanted to hire me? No. That couldn’t be. Moretti Interiors were the world’s leading interior design firm and he couldn’t possibly be thinking of choosing me over them.

He smiled seeing the look on my face. “Like I said, I like your work. If you’re interested, then this project could be yours.”

I opened my mouth to respond but nothing came out. I was too shocked. Finally, I cleared my throat, finding my voice. “You’re not serious.”

He chuckled. “I am. Take some time to think over it.” He stood up, intending to leave.

Still in shock, I got to my feet as well. Even though his eyes were covered with the shades, I could feel his gaze move over my body and I suddenly felt hot under the yellow bikini I was wearing.
He was still, except for the subtle movement of his jaw clenching and unclenching. Then he stepped back from me. “I’ll be in the Crown Lounge after dinner tonight. Find me when you’ve decided.”

Just then Hal sauntered up to us. Glad for the distraction, I quickly made the introductions.

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Perez.” Hal said without even bothering to hide the fact that he was checking Jason out.
“Call me Jason, please. It’s good to meet you too.” He grinned and I saw Hal blink. I hid a smile. So it wasn’t just me who was affected by Jason’s smile.

“My God, he has a killer smile.” Hal said as soon as Jason left.
“Seems like someone got a little crush.” I teased.

“Seems like I’m not the only one.” Hal shot back with a smirk.
“I don’t have a crush.” I muttered taking his drink and drinking half of it in one breathe.
    “Well, aren’t you thirsty.”
    “It’s hot today.”

He wriggled his eyebrows. “It is. But the man who just left is hotter. Sure your thirst doesn’t have anything to do with that walking sex God?”
“Shut up.” I glowered at him.

He grinned but to my relief dropped it. “So what did he say?”
I quickly filled him in on my conversation with Jason.

Hal looked ecstatic. “That’s wonderful. Please tell me you’re going to accept.”
“I don’t know.” I said with a sigh. “Designing a hotel is my dream but we are talking about a Perez hotel here. It’s the most luxurious hotel brand in the world. It’s way out of my league. I don’t have the experience for it.”

“You can do it.” Hal said simply. “I’m not saying this because I’m biased but you are extremely talented and I know you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it and work hard for it.”

    “But…”
“No buts. You’re doing this.” He said firmly. “At least, go and talk to him about it. No harm in discussing the project. And after that, if you think it’s not for you, then you can decline his offer.”
I thought over his words and decided he was right.

I want to know if you want me as much as I want you right now. If you have thought of me at all these past six years. I thought, trying hard not to stare at her lips. The lips that had been distracting me all night.

She looked beautiful as usual with her hair hanging in waves around her shoulders. The white dress she was wearing complimented her tanned skin.
My control was hanging by a thread when she made that comment about mistaking me for her fiancé and it had snapped. It was too satisfying to find out that her response to my kiss was as intense and wild even when she was sober. She wasn’t as unaffected by me as she pretended to be.

I almost smiled at thought of what followed after the kiss. Her slap had caught me totally unaware. I could still feel the power of it on my face. Who knew such a small hand could hold that much power? Despite her denial, I was sure her palm had stung, but knowing she didn’t want to show any weakness in front of me, I had let it go.

My mind went to the drive over to the restaurant. She had been so excited when I asked her if she wanted to drive. With her eyes shining and her cheeks flushed with exhilaration, she had looked so very tempting. It had taken all of my control not to pull her into my arms again and kiss her.

I hadn’t meant to tell her that her smile was worth more than my car. Even though it was true. But it had just slipped out. She could have crashed the damn car and I wouldn’t have cared. The only thing that mattered was seeing that happy look on her face as she drove and knowing I was the reason behind it.

A part of my mind warned me to keep her at an arm’s distance, both physically and emotionally. But the more time I spent with her, I was beginning to realize I still had a soft spot for her even after all these years.

Even knowing she was engaged to another man hadn’t doused the attraction I felt. I stayed the hell away from women who were married or taken, but with Kate, I was finding it hard to.

In the car I had almost given into temptation and kissed her. And I was damn sure she wouldn’t have stopped me. I had seen the desire reflected in her eyes. But having given her my word that I wouldn’t touch her again, I immediately got out of the car before I did something she’d regret.

    “Jason.”

Her voice brought me out of my thoughts and I realized I had been staring at her all this time. Her face was red and I was ready to bet it wasn’t at all from embarrassment. There was no mistaking the flush of desire. She was as aware of me as I was of her.

I cleared my throat. “Tell me about work.”
“Well, I was working as an interior designer at an architecture firm but I resigned two weeks ago.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

So she had pursued interior designing. I remembered her telling me she wanted to be an interior designer when we were in school. “Why did you resign?”

“I’ve always wanted to work on my own. Taking independent clients and as long as I was working under someone else, it wasn’t possible. So I decided to quit and work for myself.” She shrugged and the movement dragged my attention to her cleavage. I groaned in my head and tore my gaze away. Was it not possible to have a conversation with her without getting turned on?

The food came and we continued talking throughout the main course. She told me about the projects she had done while employed in the architecture firm, and I was entranced as I watched her talk. Her eyes were sparkling, her voice animated and it was clear that she was extremely passionate about her work.

I was curious to know more so I asked her what her goals and dreams were.
“I want to open my own business one day.” She said enthusiastically. “After that, I’d really like to work on a huge project. Like a hotel or resort maybe.”

The more I talked to her the more I wanted to see her work. “Do you have an e-portfolio?”

    “Yeah I do.”

    “I’d like to see it.”

She looked surprised. “Um. Sure.” She opened her purse and took a card out. “Here’s my card. You’ll find the address on this.”

I took it from her and put it in my jacket pocket. She didn’t ask me why I wanted to see her website and I was actually glad. I had an idea in my mind but I wanted to be sure of it. I would go back to my suite and check her e-portfolio, and if I liked her work then I would tell her what I had in mind.

While we waited for dessert, Kate leaned forward in her seat and smiled. “Let’s talk about you.”

Was she aware that I could see her cleavage so well when she leaned like that? I struggled to keep my eyes firmly on her face. “Nothing much to tell. I wake up at 5, work twelve to fourteen hours and am usually in bed by midnight.”

    “What about your social life?”

“Are you asking me if I’m dating anyone?” I smirked at her, enjoying myself.

She blushed and bit her lips. Heat shot straight to my groin and I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. “I don’t have time for dating.”

“Really? Then who are those women you’re so constantly photographed with?”
    I grinned. “Acquaintances.”

“Yeah, right.” She tried to fight the smile threatening on her lips but failed to do so.
Because I didn’t want to talk about myself, I steered the conversation away from me. “Tell me about Peter.” Maybe it was a too personal question and the way her eyes widened told me she thought so as well.

“How do you know his name?” She asked frowning.

“You told me during your very drunk conversation with me.” I smirked and had the satisfaction of seeing her blush again. “So how long have you both been together?”

“Well, tomorrow is our two-year anniversary.

“Why isn’t he here with you then?”
She hesitated, then shrugged. “His boss arranged a camping trip at the last minute so he couldn’t come with me.”
Despite how much she was trying not to show it, I could see she was disappointed. Her tone even suggested she was not happy. What type of man ditched his fiancée on their anniversary?
The waiter appeared with the dessert at that moment. Kate took a spoonful of cheesecake and made a disturbingly erotic sound in her throat. “This is unbelievably delicious.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

She licked her lips slowly, making my body tense. God, everything she did was a hell of a turn on for me. No woman had ever affected me the way she did. Was it possible that she still had some sort of power over me like she did in school?

No. That couldn’t be. I had loved her once but that didn’t mean I was going to repeat the same mistake again. I wasn’t a boy anymore but a man, who had no time for love or any crap like that.

Whatever I was feeling for her was lust. Raw intense lust that made me want to rip her clothes off every time I looked at her. Too bad she was taken and unavailable because there was nothing else that I wanted as much as I wanted to fuck her.

I forced the thoughts out of my head and continued making idle conversation while we finished dessert. When the check arrived, she reached for it but I beat her to it.

She tried to protest. “I can’t let you pay for me.”

“I can afford it, believe me.” I shot her an amused look as I retrieved a credit card from my wallet and tucked it inside the burgundy leather case along with a couple of hundred dollar notes as a tip.

She sighed in exasperation, not hiding the fact that she wasn’t happy. Ignoring her, I signaled to the waitress and handed her the check. Our fingers accidentally brushed as she took it from me and she blushed to the roots.

As she walked away, Kate raised one eyebrow at me. “Do all women act like that around you?”

The answer was yes, almost always, but if I said that she would think I was being cocky and vain so I just smirked. “You’re a woman. You tell me.”

“I don’t act like that.” She muttered defensively but even as she said that, a faint blush stained her cheeks.

I was tempted to fluster her more but I decided to let it go. She was trying so hard to pretend she wasn’t affected by me and I didn’t want to let her know I saw through it.

On the drive back to the ship, we had an easy conversation flowing between us. As we climbed aboard the ship I realized I didn’t want the night to end. “Do you want to go to the bar and get a drink?” I asked her.

“I think I’ll have an early night. I promised Hal I’ll go swimming with him early in the morning.”

“I’ll walk you to your room then.” She opened her mouth to protest but then nodded.

We walked in silence but I could sense she was suddenly tense. When we reached her door, she stopped and gave me a small smile. “Thanks for dinner. I had a lovely time.”

“Me too.” I flashed her a smile and her eyes flared in awareness instantly. I was used to getting that reaction from women to my smile, but seeing her react that way pleased me entirely too much.

I suddenly wanted to push her against the door and kiss her senseless. I wanted to see those lips bruised and swollen from my kisses. The rush of need that flashed through me made my dick twitch in my pants and I groaned inwardly.

I reminded myself that she was engaged and off limits. “Good night, Kate.”

    She smiled. “Good night.”

I gave her a quick smile and walked away before my body won the argument it was having with my brain and kissed her.

👩‍❤️‍👨 My Ex My Lover EPISODE FIVE: 💞❣️

    Kate POV 💋

The cruise liner was docked at St. Martin and as soon as we stepped on to the pier, a man dressed in a black suit approached us.

“Good evening, Mr. Perez.” He greeted Jason before giving me the same polite look. “Ma’am.”

“Evening, Ben.” Jason introduced the man to me as Benjamin Watts, his driver and bodyguard.

Ben looked to be in his early thirties. He had a buzz cut and the perfectly tailored suit he was wearing hinted at the bulging muscles underneath. A tiny black earpiece was lodged in his ear, which was connected to a curling wire that disappeared beneath the collar of his white crisp shirt. At first glance, I would have thought he was a Secret Service Agent.

“I’ll drive. Take the night off.” Jason said taking the car keys from him.
“Very well. Have a good evening, Mr. Perez.” He gave me a polite nod again. “Miss Lewis.”

Jason took my elbow as he guided me towards a metallic black car parked a few feet away. “Wow. Hennessey Venom GTI.” I exclaimed in awe as I recognized the car brand. “How fast is this?”

    “270.49 mph.”

“That’s 2.63 mph higher than the Bugatti Veyron. And I thought that was the fastest car in the world now.”

He looked at me in surprise. “You know cars?”

“Why is it so surprising? Cars are not only for men you know.”

“Whoa, easy.” He grinned taking in my offended look. “I’m not being sexist. It’s just that I’ve never met a woman who knows car specifics.”

“Now you have.” I said absentmindedly, still admiring the beauty of the car. “So is this yours?”

When he nodded, I stared at him in surprise. “Don’t tell me you keep a car in every country, ready for you.”

He gave me an amused look. “I actually brought the car with me on the ship.”

“From LA? That must cost a fortune.” I exclaimed and then flushed in embarrassment. Of course, he could afford that. He was a freaking billionaire.
“I’m sure Nathan would give me a discount.” He replied with a straight face but his eyes held amusement in them.
Great, now he was laughing at me.

He was about to open the passenger side door for me but paused. “Want to drive?”
    I gaped at him. “Really?”

    “Yeah. Why not?”

I could feel my face flush with excitement but I tried to squash it. “It’s such an expensive car. I don’t want to risk scratching it.”

    “You won’t.”

His faith in me took me by surprise. “You don’t know that.”

“Let me put it this way then. Even if you do end up scratching it, it’s fine with me. It will be worth it.” He grinned, took my elbow and walked me to the driver’s side.

    “Worth what?”

Instead of answering, he held the door open.

“What about license?” I knew I had to have a special license to be able to drive in the island.

“You’re with me.” He said simply. “So don’t worry about that.”

The excitement took over me and I climbed inside. As expected, the interior of the car was simply stunning with Alcantra seats and carbon-fiber surfaces. Instead of the traditional steering wheel, it boasted a racing wheel equipped with a range of buttons and switches.

Jason got in the passenger seat and spent about five minutes explaining to me the different buttons and how it worked. Once I got everything, he turned on the voice controlled GPS system in the car and asked for the directions for the restaurant.

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you about scratches.” I said gripping the wheel tightly. I couldn’t remember feeling so excited before. The low purr of the powerful engine was like music to my ears.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

That secretive smile again appeared on his lips. “Like I said, it will be worth it.”

I frowned and repeated my earlier question. “Worth what?”

And again, he chose not to answer. But I was feeling too exhilarated, to give it much thought. I couldn’t help a little happy laugh as I pulled off the pier and on to the almost empty main street. There weren’t any vehicles, only just a few tourists scattered here and there.

“I can’t believe I’m driving this.” I flashed a quick smile at Jason. “How am I doing?”
“You’re doing great. Although, at this speed, I think we’ll be reaching the restaurant by tomorrow morning.” He teased me with smirk.

“Good thing breakfast is your favorite meal then.” I shot back with a smile but then stilled as I realized what I had said. I didn’t want him to know that I still remembered those small things about him.

He let it pass without making a comment and I was glad for that. The streets started getting narrower, and I was suddenly nervous but he kept giving me instructions on how to maneuver the car through the tricky streets. It brought back memories of another time when he had done that.

He used to drive a Porsche in high school and one day after school, he had let me drive it. He had been so patient even that day, encouraging me. I quickly banished those memories. No use thinking of the past. I doubted he even remembered any of it.

Ten minutes later, we reached a long narrow main street lined with typical sea side shops and Jason gestured to the promenade. “Let’s park here.”

I maneuvered the car on to the promenade so smoothly that I even impressed myself. If I had been alone, I was sure I would have done a little cheer and fisted the air or something. I had always liked cars but after I attended a roadshow in college, I turned into what Hal called a car fanatic. And getting to drive one of the most luxurious cars in the world was like a dream come true for me.

    “You did incredible.”

“I swear I have an adrenaline rush. Thank you for letting me drive.” I killed the engine and glanced at Jason, a huge grin on my face. “I don’t think there are many men who would let an inexperienced woman take the wheels of such an expensive car. But seriously, weren’t you the least bit worried I might scratch this?”
“I told you, even if you did, I wouldn’t have cared. That smile on your face is worth much more than the car.”

I gaped at him. Did I hear him right? His eyes were too intense on my face, and my heart started racing because of it. So that was what he meant when he said it would be all worth it.

I abruptly became aware of the tension in the car, and recognized it for what it was. Fierce and raw sexual energy. The tug of forbidden desire that coursed through me shocked me into letting out a soft gasp.
His jaw tightened instantly. With a quick move, he unclasped his seatbelt and stepped out of the car as if he didn’t want to be near me. I remained frozen in my seat, trying to come to terms with what just happened.

There was no denying the intense need that had seemed to pulsate between us. It forced me to face the reality that I had been lying to myself by pretending I wasn’t attracted to him.

Panic started bubbling inside me. Agreeing to dinner was definitely a mistake. I shouldn’t have come. I had thought I could handle being around him, act like we were friends and share a pleasant meal just like I would have with Nathan.

I was broken out of my thoughts when Jason opened the driver’s door. “Are you planning on staying inside the car all night?” He had that sexy grin on his face, and no trace of the tension from seconds ago. It looked as if he had discarded the moment we shared from his mind.

And the last thing I wanted was to give him was the impression that I was affected by it. It was too late to change my mind about dinner anyway. I couldn’t just tell him to take me back to the ship. So, I forced a smile and climbed out of the car.

We walked to the waterfront restaurant across the street and a maître D’ greeted us at the entrance. Jason gave his name and she led us to the terrace. We were shown to a table that offered the view of the marina below.

    Pêrspy Snazzy ✍️

“This is beautiful.” I murmured taking a look around. The interior had a rustic charm about it, with polished woodworks, vintage artifacts and flickering lanterns. The sound of waves crashing below added to the outdoorsy vibe.

“I figured you’d like this place that’s why I chose it.”

Jason’s comment confused me. “Hang on. I thought Nathan chose the restaurant. I mean, he was the one who asked me out to dinner. You stepped in the last minute because he couldn’t make it so…” My voice trailed off when I finally understood. “No freaking way.”

He was trying not to smirk I was so sure of it. “You both planned this, didn’t you?” I asked shaking my head. “You knew if you had asked me to dinner I wouldn’t have agreed so you sent him.”

Finally, the smirk he had been trying to hide appeared. “Well, it worked, didn’t it?”
Ignoring his cocky tone, I frowned. “Why?” When he simply raised one eyebrow, I clarified. “Why go to all the trouble to get me to have dinner with you?”

“I already told you. To catch up.”
I got the feeling there was more he wasn’t telling me but his guarded expression gave nothing away. And part of me told me it was better not knowing what his reasons were. Just like it was better not thinking about the comment he made earlier about my smile being worth more than

👩‍❤️‍👨 My Ex My Lover EPISODE FOUR: 💞❣️

    Kate POV 💋

“Where is Nathan?” My heart felt as if it would jump out of my throat and I swallowed hard. Why was this happening to me?

“Something came up that needed his attention so I offered to take you out. He sends his apologies.”

“You don’t have to trouble yourself.” I bit my lip nervously and his eyes followed that action.

The corners of his lips tilted up in a smirk. “Are you scared of being alone with me?”
I held his gaze with all the strength I had. I wasn’t going to show him that he affected me in ways that scared the hell out of me. “Why would I be?”

“Well, considering what happened that night maybe you’re scared.”

Jerk. I flushed in embarrassment. He was right, of course. I had thrown myself at him so shamelessly.

I took a deep breath. I needed to get it over with quickly. “Look, I…I want to apologize.”

He raised one eyebrow but didn’t say anything.

“I shouldn’t have kissed you. I was drunk and didn’t know what I was doing. I would never kiss you in my right mind. ….” I trailed off when I saw the smirk on his face. “What’s so funny?” I narrowed my eyes.

“Is that an apology or an insult?”

“Take it however you want. That’s the only thing you’re getting from me.” I tried to control my anger but couldn’t.

“You were ready to give a lot more that night.” He drawled lazily as his smirk deepened.

Blood rushed to my face but I needed to know. “Did we do anything else?”
He stared at me like I was crazy. “What?”
    “I don’t remember much.” I muttered impatiently.

“We only kissed, Kate.” His voice held amusement as he studied me with those blue eyes.

    “Oh thank God.”

He thrust his hands deep in his pockets and flashed me that trademark smirk again. “If I wanted to I could have done more, you know.”

I couldn’t believe his arrogance. “Have you always been such a conceited jerk?”
“Do you always throw yourself at men when you’re drunk?”

I stared at him incredulously. Did he think I was some kind of a tramp?

“So it has only been me.” He correctly interpreted the expression on my face. “I’m flattered.” His tone was mocking, goading me into fury.

“Listen you pompous jerk, I wouldn’t have even touched you if I wasn’t drunk.” I bit out furiously. “Even if you were the last man on earth I wouldn’t go near you.”
“Is that so?” His voice was dangerously low.

“I was wasted and thought you were my fiancé. I was thinking of him the whole time.” A lie necessary to bring his sky-high ego down a notch or two. “Do you really think I would kiss you in my right mind?” I deliberately kept my tone insulting.

His eyes narrowed instantly, a muscle jumping in his jaw. My breathe caught at the sudden change in his demeanor. He looked pissed off, so intimidating and dangerous, his blue eyes turning icy in a matter of seconds.

He suddenly took a step towards me and instinctively I took two steps back. Fear trickled down my spine as I stared at his furious face. He looked as if he wanted to punch something. Or someone.

He continued moving towards me until my back hit the wall. I caught a whiff of his cologne, and my senses filled with the intoxicatingly male scent.

“What…what are you doing?” I stammered pressing my body further into the wall.
    “Calling your bluff.”

    Pêrspy Snazzy 💋 💋

His hand wrapped around my nape and pulled me against him. My eyes widened in shock as our bodies touched. Before I could say or do anything he crushed his mouth to mine.

My breath caught in my throat as his lips moved roughly over mine. His teeth captured my lower lip and when I gasped in shocked pleasure, he expertly slid his tongue inside.

He tasted like fresh peppermint as though he had just chewed a piece of gum. I knew I should have pushed him away, but my brain stopped functioning completely. All I could do was feel.

He kissed me like he owned me. There was nothing gentle about it. It was a harsh, punishing kiss that was terrifying in its intensity, sending waves of passion spreading through my body.

He had one hand fisted in my hair, anchoring me as he ravaged my mouth. The other and the other arm wrapped around my waist tightly. When I felt the hard ridge of his arousal, I couldn’t prevent the moan that rose in my throat. Heat pooled between my legs and I was helpless to resist him anymore.

I had no control over what happened next. My arms moved of their own accord around his neck and I arched into him, kissing him back. With a groan, he pushed me against the wall roughly and ground his hardness into me. It was sheer excruciating pleasure.

But then suddenly he pulled back from me and it was over as soon as it had begun. If it hadn’t been for the support of the wall I’d have stumbled backwards.
I blinked, disoriented by the abrupt loss of his touch. My heart was pounding in my ears and I shook my head to clear the hazy desire clouding it.

“Were you thinking of him just now?” He bit out his eyes flashing.

The words brought me crashing back to reality and I felt as if I had been doused in cold water. Shame filled me as I realized what I had just done, what I had allowed him to do.

The arrogant smirk on his face triggered something in me that I didn’t know existed. The guilt and self-hate I was feeling morphed into anger within a split second, and without thinking, I drew my hand back and slapped him hard across the face.

The sound echoed like a gunshot in the silent room. His head went back reeling with the force of it. Pain shot up my wrist, my palm stinging.

His expression was a mixture of shock and disbelief and he stared at me. When I saw the red imprint of my fingers on his cheek, I felt my gut churn. My anger evaporated as fast as it came and I stared back, horrified at my violent outburst.

“I’m…I’m sorry.” I swallowed hard, half fearful of how he was going to react.
He was silent for a few seconds then flexed his jaw. “I suppose I deserved that.” A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “You pack one mean slap. I think I have a mild concussion.”

I had expected him to be furious and his reaction completely stunned me. He further shocked me when he reached out and took my hand, turning it over to examine my palm.

“Does it hurt?” He gently ran his fingers over my palm. Goosebumps erupted on the length of my arm. I couldn’t understand him. I had hit him but he seemed more concerned about my hand.
“No.” I had put all of my strength behind the slap and my palm was still stinging but I didn’t want to admit it. Pulling my hand away from his grip, I wrapped my arms around myself. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hit you. I wasn’t thinking.

“Apology accepted.” He looked more than a little amused. Then his expression turned serious. “And I shouldn’t have kissed you.”

“Is that an apology?” I asked lightly, glad that the tension between us had faded away.

“I’m not sorry I kissed you.” When my eyes widened, he flashed a quick sexy grin. “I’m just saying I shouldn’t have.” He glanced at the black sports Rolex on his wrist. “I guess we’d better get going if we want to make the dinner reservation.”
I stared at him. Did he expect me to go to dinner with him after what just happened?

He understood what I was thinking. “Don’t make such a big deal out of a simple kiss, Kate. It was nothing. Let’s just forget about it and move on. Besides, I promised Nathan I’d take you out to dinner.”

He was right. The kiss meant nothing. My response to him meant nothing. Any sane woman would have responded to him like I did. His kiss could have brought the dead alive, he was that good. It didn’t mean I was attracted to him or anything.
When I didn’t answer, he sighed. “You’re thinking too much. It’s just dinner.”

It was just dinner. I knew that. But he was my ex-boyfriend. The one who had played with my heart and broken it without a second’s thought. Although, on silent mutual agreement, we both seemed to be doing a good job of ignoring our past and pretending we didn’t part ways on bitter terms six years ago.

    Pêrspy Snazzy 💋 💋

Besides, as a woman engaged to another man, the last thing I should be doing was fraternizing with an ex. Peter’s face flashed in my mind and guilt settled in the pit of my stomach. Not only had I kissed Jason twice now, but here I was thinking of spending an evening with him.
“I don’t think this is such a good idea.” I blurted out, a trace of anxiousness in my voice.

Jason was silent for a moment, studying me intensely. “Is it because of our history?”

“Partly.” Finally, we were acknowledging the elephant in the room. “You’re my ex-boyfriend. It’s not right to go out with you when I’m engaged to another man.”
“I’m not asking you out on a date, Kate.”
    “I know that.”

“So, being engaged means you can’t enjoy dinner with a friend?”

That caught me off guard. Did he think of me as a friend? “I didn’t know we were friends.”

“We could be if you want to. At least for tonight.” A hint of a smile touched his lips. “I never thought I’d see you again but here we are. And I think it would be nice to catch up, that’s all.”

His eyes showed sincerity and despite my reservations, I found myself considering it. Earlier, I had been looking forward to going out with Nathan so I could catch up with him. And the only difference between Jason and Nathan was that I used to date Jason. I could forget about that part and go with Jason like I would have done with Nathan.

He must have known what I was thinking because he smiled lazily. “And if it helps, I promise to behave.”

In spite of myself, I found myself suppressing a smile in response to the wicked, teasing glance he slanted me. It was hard to stay aloof when he was being playful. “Yeah, right. Like you know how.”
“Of course, I do. I can be the perfect gentleman.” He grinned. “So, what do you say?”

There were still doubts but I found myself agreeing. “Okay, but I have two conditions.”

    “And those are?”
    “You behave.”
“I already promised, didn’t I? And I keep my word, Kate.”
    “You better.”
“Cross my heart.” He smirked, clearly amused. “What’s the second one?”

“We are not going to talk about our past.”
“Deal.” He agreed without hesitation and gave a quick glance at his watch and gestured towards the door. “Shall we?”
He had a point. It would be nice to catch up, as friends. Besides, the last thing I wanted was to give him the impression that I was affected by the kiss.

    “Okay.”
“Great. Let’s go then.” He smiled, flashing dimples on both cheeks and my heart gave a flutter. He really had a killer smile. I doubted there was any woman who could think clearly when he was smiling at them like that. And worse, he was definitely aware of it.
