    The 1983 hit “Onye Ori Utaba” by Nigerian traditional music icon Mike “Gentleman” Ejeagha, which features the cry “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo,” has unexpectedly become viral, igniting a worldwide dance challenge.

    Popular comedian and skitmaker Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie, also known as Brain Jotter, has given a fresh spin to the 41-year-old song, and it has since gone viral on social media.

    Posting on July 5th, Brain Jotter’s first Instagram video featured a funny leg dance, participants ran after each other to the chorus “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo,” and the dance was unique.

    The video became viral, with over a million views by July 21st and other remakes appearing on various social media sites.

    Many famous people, among others, have joined the challenge. Asisat Oshoala and the rest of the Super Falcons danced the routine in Bordeaux in the lead-up to the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics.
    Tobi Bakre, a former housemate of Big Brother Naija, and his wife got in on the craze as well.

    Several other famous people have joined the bandwagon as well, such as Sabinus, Crazeclown, and Ade.

    This song is from Akuko Na Egwu’s Vol. 1 CD and tells the story of a crafty tortoise who got the princess he wanted by trading an elephant with his in-laws.

    Prior to her father, the king, asking her why, the princess had turned down multiple proposals. She told him she was looking for a man who could give her an elephant as a wedding gift. The tortoise then played a prank on the elephant by posing as the event’s chairman.

    But the sly turtle, a staple of Igbo legend, was only able to fool his companion, much to the giant’s ire.

    A surprising development occurred on Sunday when Brain Jotter voiced his intention to meet Ejeagha. He captioned an Instagram photo of their encounter with the words “So happy I did this” by Monday. Excerpt will follow shortly.

    Many admirers have praised Brain Jotter for his generous gesture, which has been well-received by the audience.

    Nonetheless, Ejeagha has received a lot of attention due to the viral challenge, and people who wish him well have been showing up at his house with gifts.

    “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo” has made a surprising comeback, bringing Ejeagha’s music to a whole new generation of listeners and solidifying his place in Nigerian folklore music history.

    It’s an Igbo folktale story that entails the tale of (Enyi) Elephant and (Mbe) Tortoise.

    The king asked his daughter the princess, the reason why she is yet to get married. in his words;

    ” The first suitors came, you rejected.
    The second suitor came you rejected.
    The third suitor came you rejected.
    The fourth suitor came you rejected”

    The princess replied the king that anyone who wants to marry her must come with an elephant (Enyi).

    She wanted to ride on it, because elephants when rode on symbolizes royalty. The task seemed like an impossible task, because it would be difficult to convince the elephant.

    The news spread round the village.
    The (Mbe) tortoise born on hearing the news went to visit his friend the (Enyi) elephant and lied to him that the king was organizing a celebration (festival) and he (Enyi) was appointed the chairman of the occasion.

    The Elephant out of over excitement
    agreed to follow the tortoise .
    On the day of the festival the tortoise went to the elephants place.

    On their way to the festival the tortoise asked the elephant that he should let him (Mbe) stay at his back to make the journey faster.

    The Elephant agreed and the tortoise tried climbing the elephants back and kept falling, then he told the elephant that he couldn’t climb his back because his legs where too short so he requested to use a rope.

    He took out a rope from his bag and tied it round the elephants neck and they continued their journey.

    On getting closer to the king’s palace .

    The tortoise began singing out loud;

    Nnam eze akpatam enyi, Nnam eze akpatam enyi.
    (My King I have brought the Elephant)

    Nwa mbe isi na ikpata onye, Nwa mbe isi na ikpata onye.
    (Small Tortoise who do you said you have brought? The Elephant queried)

    Asim ana ya chebe enyi dube enyi, odikam si na akpatam enyi.
    (I said let the earth protect and guide the Elephant. Did I said I have brought Elephant?)

    Asim ana ya chebe enyi dube enyi, odikam si na akpatam enyi. (I said let the earth protect and guide the Elephant. Did I said I have brought Elephant ?)

    Okwa enyi ga abu isi oche, okwa enyi ga abu isi oche.
    (is it not the Elephant that will be the chairman?)

    Enyi na aga ayi so gi na azu
    gwo gwo gwo ngwo (Elephant continue to go we are behind you, gwo gwo gwo ngwo)

    On getting to the palace, he handed over the rope to the king and requested to marry the princess.

    In my grandma’s village, their women are called (Enyi) elephant . it’s a symbol of pride.

    Sometimes my mum calls me Nwaenyi( daughter of an elephant).
