APC Raises Alarm Over Fake Court Ruling Disqualifying Okpebholo from Edo Governorship Election

With less than 24 hours to the Edo State Governorship Election set for September 21, 2024, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised an alarm over a fake court ruling circulating online, falsely claiming that their candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo (Akpakomiza), has been disqualified. The party, in a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, condemned the ruling as a fabricated attempt to mislead the electorate and disrupt the democratic process.

Morka expressed deep concerns about the spread of the false information, calling it a “desperate act” designed to confuse voters on the eve of the election. He emphasized that Senator Okpebholo remains the legitimate and undisputed APC standard-bearer, urging voters to disregard any claims to the contrary. “This fake news is meant to sow seeds of doubt and subvert the will of the Edo electorate. It must be thoroughly rejected by the good and discerning people of Edo State,” Morka said, stressing that no court had issued such a ruling.

The APC also called on law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate the origin of the fabricated ruling and bring those responsible to justice. Morka reaffirmed the party’s faith in the electoral process and urged Edo voters to stay vigilant and resolute. “We trust that the Edo people will reject these illegal devices aimed at derailing the election,” he added. As the state gears up for election day, the APC remains confident in Senator Okpebholo’s chances and encouraged citizens to cast their votes based on truth and integrity.

APC launches last-minute propaganda campaign against PDP as Edo governorship election draws near

As Edo State braces for its crucial governorship election on September 21, 2024, new revelations have surfaced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is employing an aggressive propaganda campaign to discredit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

According to inside sources, the APC’s strategy includes disseminating forged letters and press statements purportedly signed by the PDP, falsely calling for violence.

The goal is to tarnish the PDP’s reputation and present its candidate as a promoter of unrest, thereby influencing public perception in the final days leading up to the election.

The calculated move by the APC appears to be part of a campaign to sway voters by painting the PDP as a party that endorses violence and chaos.

A source close to the PDP campaign team, who asked to remain anonymous, expressed concerns about the damaging effect of the APC’s actions on the democratic process.

“The APC is resorting to desperate measures. They’re creating fake documents, forging signatures, and making it look like the PDP is calling for violence.

“This is not only a violation of the democratic process but a dangerous attempt to stir unrest in Edo State,” the source said.

The APC’s propaganda machine has reportedly gone into overdrive, producing fake letters and statements under the guise of the PDP.

The documents are then disseminated to journalists and shared widely on social media platforms to create the impression that the PDP is fomenting violence ahead of the election.

One of the forged letters purportedly calls for violent protests if the PDP loses the election, while another seeks to undermine the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Sources have also revealed that the APC chieftains have devised a plan to castigate President Bola Tinubu by using fake press releases and letters allegedly originating from PDP members.

The forged communications aim to provoke President Tinubu, painting him as a leader under attack from the PDP, and push him to adopt a more biased stance toward his party, the APC, ahead of the election.

A senior official within the Edo political landscape, who chose to speak anonymously, explained the strategy: “The APC knows that if they can get under the President’s skin, it may influence how he reacts publicly or even how federal resources are allocated in the days leading up to the election.

“They are creating false narratives using PDP letterheads, spreading fake news to both defame their opponents and provoke President Tinubu. It’s a dangerous game they’re playing.”

In one such letter, allegedly crafted by APC operatives, PDP members are portrayed as levelling harsh and inflammatory criticisms against the President.

The aim, according to sources, is to ignite tensions between President Tinubu and the PDP, forcing the President to rally around the APC in defence of his administration.

Already, the Edo state PDP chairman, Dr Anthony Aziegbemi has dismissed a letter purportedly emanating from him, accusing the presidency of planning to rig the election with the help of the National Security Adviser and the Department of State Security.

“In this election season, all sorts of fake statements and forged documents, mischievously ascribed to us, are peddled by persons who do not mean well for our campaign,” he said.

Put Obaseki On Watch, Edo APC Chairman Tells Security Agencies

The Edo state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarret Tenebe, has urged the federal government to place Governor Godwin Obaseki under security watch due to an alleged threat to burn down Nigeria.

He also notified security agencies about a supposed collaboration between Obaseki, a section of the civil society group from Edo state, and cultists from neighbouring states to recruit them for potential upcoming protests.

Tenebe said: “The aim of Obaseki’s plan is to create anarchy in Edo State, and the five other Southsouth States, and blame the APC for the destructions that will follow the protest.

“It is embarrassing and worrisome that the Edo State House of Assembly has turned blind eyes to the danger Obaseki has become, as the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, and members of Edo House of Assembly have refused to condemn the serious security breach the governor has committed.

“The prevailing circumstance is worrisome and demands urgent action that will frustrate the plan Obaseki has made with Edo State Security Network (ESSN), POWOV, and thugs from the five other Southsouth States of Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Bayelsa.”

Edo chairman of APC also passionately pleaded with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to carry out an urgent and comprehensive investigation on the recent meetings that were held by Obaseki, within and outside Edo state.

He called for the withdrawal or change of the Edo governor’s security details, as the day for the planned protest draws nearer, while his movements are restricted before the planned protest, especially on the protest day.

Tenebe said: “Worried by the open partisan role Edo Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, has played in recent times, we request that he should emulate his counterpart, Kimberly Cheatle, the United States of America Secret Service Chief, who resigned for failing to prevent Donald Trump’s assassination attempt.

“In the event, that Adegboye fails to take the honourable path, he should be transferred out of Edo State because his actions are capable of bringing the force to disrepute.”

Edo chairman of APC also stated that the consequences of the state’s commissioner of police ignoring the timely resignation call was capable of leading to subsequent breakdown of law and order in Edo and other states of Nigeria.

Edo Guber: Put Governor Obaseki On Security Watch – APC Tells FG

The All Progressives Congress or APC has called on the federal government to put the Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki on security watch.

A statement issued by the Acting State Chairman of the party, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe said, “It is embarrassing and worrisome that the Edo State House of Assembly has turned blind eyes to the danger Obaseki has become, as the Speaker and members have refused to condemn the serious security breach the governor has committed.”

The APC was reacting to a viral video showing Obaseki warning that Nigeria would burn if the shooting that happened recently in the state capital happened again.

The shooting led to the death of a policeman during a political rally being organised by the All Progressives Congress ahead of the governorship election in the year.

The APC, while calling for a comprehensive investigation into the shooting, called on the federal government to act timely to avert any threat, especially during the looming protest.

The party said, “We make the following passionate and patriotic appeal to the National Security Adviser: Carry out an urgent and comprehensive investigation on the recent meetings that was held by Governor Obaseki, within and outside Edo State.

“Withdraw or change his security details as the day for the planned protest draws nearer.

“The consequences of ignoring this timely call is capable of leading to the subsequent breakdown of law and order in Edo State and Nigeria.”

But the Edo state government denied the accusation and accused the APC of being a party with a history of violence.

The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr Chris Nehikhare, while reacting to the accusation from the APC said, “I heard that they talked about our governor being a security threat and should be placed on security watch.

“It is amazing when we are all witnesses to the fact that members of the APC have their pictures publicly displayed, armed and carrying guns around the streets of Benin and we are now aware that most of them have run away.

“Those are the people that are security threats. They should be picked up by the police or handed over to the police by the APC themselves and let them explain why they were carrying guns in the midst of policemen.

“We as a party and a government, all we are interested in is the welfare of the people,” he stated.
