Discover the details of the narco-video that shook Honduras on Tuesday, in which Carlos Zelaya appears and was released by InSight Crime.
InSight Crime, a foundation dedicated to the investigation of crimes and drug trafficking, surprised with the release of a compromising video in which Carlos Zelaya, former secretary of the National Congress, appears alongside members of the “Los Cachiros” cartel.
The images, recorded in 2013, show alleged payments intended to finance Manuel Zelaya ‘s presidential campaign in 2005.
The main question that has arisen following the publication of this material is: how did InSight Crime obtain this exclusive video? Steven Dudley , co-director of the foundation, explained in an interview with TSi’s Noticieros Hoy Mismo that the video was obtained legally through a reliable source who asked to remain secret.
Dudley clarified that the clip circulated only in US judicial circles linked to drug trafficking cases.
A shocking revelation
Dudley said the video’s content was “more compelling than usual,” causing a stir in Honduras and internationally. According to the journalist, this type of visual evidence has a particular weight that can significantly influence public perception and judicial proceedings.
The government’s reaction
The co-founder of InSight Crime also said that the Honduran government, possibly alerted by people close to the presidency, took preventive measures before the publication of the video.
These actions include the resignation of Carlos and his son from their government posts on August 31, as well as a public complaint related to the extradition treaty with the United States.
Dudley made it clear that, although they have the theory that these actions were taken in response to the imminent publication of the narcovideo, they cannot confirm it with certainty. In addition, he denied any connection between the publication of the video and a plot by the US government.
