Susan and David got to the waiting area only to find Stephanie gone.
“Where’s Stephanie?” Susan ask, ignoring Stanley who was playing with Frederick.
“A man carried mommy and run away with her” Faye said, sitting comfortably in Lucas arms.
“What man?” David ask, a worried look on his face.
“It’s nothing serious. Ashton came by and….”
“What! Ashton is here? Where is he? Where did he take my niece to?” Susan demand as Stanley made Fredrick seat beside Lucas before walking towards Susan.
“If you come with me, I will explain”
“I don’t have to go any….”
“If you don’t come, I will have to carry you and run away too” Stanley threaten.
“Fine then but am taking the kids with me”
“Leave them. I can’t possibly do them any harm since I am their grandfather” Lucas said as an attendant brought them the cheesecake they ordered for the triplets.
Susan watch as the kids clamour around the cake trying to get a piece.
“Go with him, I will stay with the kids ” David said to Susan and immediately, Stanley lead her out of the room.
“Why don’t you come seat with me, young man” Lucas said, urging David to take a seat beside him.
“Who exactly are you?”
“I am Lucas Maverick, father to Ashton Maverick who is the triplets father”
“You mean their father is here?”
“He is currently having a word with Stephanie. Enough about me, tell me about yourself, what’s your relationship with Stephanie?” Lucas ask.
“Are you just friends or lovers?” Lucas added.
“We are just friends though I wish to have more” David said, wondering why he’s talking about his feelings to this man.
“More? Are you in love with Stephanie?” Lucas ask.
“Have been for years now but she doesn’t see that. She treats me like a little boy”
“And are you?”
“She’s older than me by just three years and am not that much of a little boy” David reply.
“You see boy, there are things in life which are meant to be and there are things which aren’t meant to be. I’d advice you to let this go, have been in this situation before. I fell for a woman older than me but she never thought of me as a man”
“Really?” A naive David ask, looking sad.
“Yes”
“What did you do to overcome the heartbreak?”
“Nothing. I remember that it hurt a lot that I couldn’t eat or sleep but time heals. I got over it and found a more better woman who loved me with her all. You should give yourself a chance to find such woman” Lucas said to him.
“Where exactly will I find such a woman?” David ask.
“You will, a woman will certainly come into your life and take your breath away, I can assure you of that” Lucas said to him.
“Where are we going?” Susan ask as they walk past some people.
“Here ” Stanley said, forcing her to seat on an empty chair in front of the huge glass window where they can watch airplanes take off.
“I don’t want to stay here” Susan said trying to get up but Stanley restraining hand held her back.
She tried knocking off his hand but it snake around her waist and he pulled her close to him.
“If you don’t stop, I am going to kiss you” Stanley threaten and that got Susan staying still.
“What exactly does Ashton want with my niece?”
“He only want to talk to her. You don’t expect him to let her leave with his kids?”
“I don’t see a problem with that since the bastard left her on her own years ago. She went through a lot just to have her kids and now, their useless father shows up wanting to claim his right”
“Don’t you think he must have had a reason for letting her go five years ago?” Stanley ask.
“What reason? He has nothing to justify himself with. You men are the same, you do something bad and expect to be forgiven when you realize your mistake. Life doesn’t work that way” Susan stated.
“I don’t know about other men but what I do know is that if one is wrong, they should be given a chance to apologise”
“To hell with their apology!” Susan lash out.
“Why do I feel that your hate is directed at all men in general? Did someone hurt you in the past? Is that why you are still single at thirty five?”
“How on earth did you know my age?”
“I saw your ID once” he reminded.
“So tell me, who hurt you in the past?” Stanley ask.
“Why do you want to know that?”
“I want to know so I will be able to mend it” Stanley said and this got Susan laughing.
“How old are you, Stanley?”
“Twenty nine, why do you ask?”
“Cause I need you to get it into that little head of yours that nothing will ever happen between us. I don’t date guys younger than me, put that into your head”
Susan said and tried to move away but Stanley tighten his arm around her waist.
This got Susan looking at him.
“What if I say I will make you change your mind?” Stanley ask, his voice filled with determination and challenge.
“You can’t change….”
“Never say never Susan. Once I set my mind on something I never back out until I make that thing mine and you are no exception ” he said with conviction, leaving Susan speechless.
Leaning towards her, he whisper into her ear.
“You’ve just challenge a monster, missy. From now on I will do whatever it takes to make you mine”
