I’ve been in Chicago for less than four hours but I already miss my wife like I can’t explain. It felt like I’ve been away from her for ages, and I got bonèrs each time I thought about her possibly lying nàked on our bed.
I was sitting on my bed in my room, imagining what Madonna could be doing, and worrying if she was okay and if she cupping her bōõbs like she always did when she wanted me to touch her.
The thoughts of her being sad because of my mother had been taken care of because I had ensured that the house keeper and my friend Chuks were properly briefed on what to do, before I left and my mother also promised to help me out.
So basically, even if my mother decided to renege on the promise she made to ensure Madonna didn’t have any reason to cry while I was away, I already got my plan B set up.
The maiden physical meeting with our International partner was billed to hold the next day, and as the head of the Marketing Department, I was saddled with so much responsibility that I needed a lot of focus to get the expected result.
Miss Sola and the other two gentlemen in my team had their own parts to play, but I needed to ensure I didn’t fall below expectations, so I had to do what I needed to do, but I also knew that I had to reach my wife and be double sure she was okay
I didn’t roam my mobile number, so I was out of reach to Madonna, and since I had just arrived, I hadn’t been able to process the registration for the mobile number that was assigned to me for use for the period of time I’d be in Chicago.
“Oh, I can as well chat her up on messenger” I thought happily and logged in my Facebook account, only to notice that she was offline.
“This is unlike Madonna. She’s always active. What could have made her stay offline for so long?” I imagined, after checking for the fourth time.
I decided to send Chuks a mail, and asked him to check up on my wife to be sure she was okay. I didn’t want to believe my mother had seized her phone and turned it off, but as u thought of it, that had to be the only reason she remained inactive for so long.
Chuks replied my mail just a few minutes later, telling me about how she had lost her phone on their way from the airport.
“Your wife lost her phone in the fast food restaurant we branched off to get her burger and yogurts on our way from the airport.
“I’ll have her speak with you when I visit your house later tonight to give her the evening delivery as your lordship had instructed, so I think you should concentrate on your job there. Your wife is okay” Chuks reply had read.
“Madonna and her carelessness with things! How could she have forgotten an iPhone 13 in a fast food joint just because of her large appetite for burger?” I thought, somewhat unhappily as I recalled that it was the third phone I had bought her that month.
The last time she lost her phone, she had gone to the salon to fix her hair and lost it somewhere along the line, and had made me spend some extra dough to put off the fire her wrong accusations against the salon owner had brought.
Turns out she lost the phone in a cab and the driver was only kind enough to tell us he wasn’t going to return it because he was going to sell it to take care of his personal through an SMS when I kept calling and sending messages to ask for the phone to be returned.
I decided to get back to work, preparing for the meeting I knew would hold the next day, deciding to have Chuks get her another phone the next time I spoke with him.
The meeting I was preparing for, was an important meeting because even though my organization has been having small scale collaborations with this foreign organization before, this was our first major deal with them.
All the needed materials for my presentation were sitting on my hotel room table as I began to create the slides and get them in the right order and progression.
About three hours later, I was through with my job, feeling very good with how fast I had worked and how because I didn’t have any form of interruptions in the form of phone calls, or screams from my mother and wife, I was able to do so much within a short time.
“Ah women! They’re just necessary êvïl” I thought with a smirk, agreeing within myself that I would be more productive without Madonna, but not ready to lie to myself that I wanted to be so productive if it had to come on the wings of staying without Madonna.
Time check and I knew it was certainly late in the night at the other side, but I needed to speak with Madonna. I needed to be sure she was okay. Calling my mother’s to ask her to hand her phone to Madonna would be intentionally waking up troubles, so the best bet was to speak with Chuks about it.
I wondered why Chuks hadn’t given me a call on FB messenger as he had promised and decided to call him to remind him to see my wife before he goes to work the next morning.
“Hello Andy, I’m really tired and worn out right now. Please speak with your wife” came Chuks’ voice before he handed his phone over to Madonna.
Cold chills ran down my spine as I heard him talk about passing his phone to Madonna.
A quick calculation of the time difference told me it was close to midnight on their end. What was my wife doing with Chuks at the time of the night?” I was wondering then I heard her voice.
“Hello Daddy, I’ve been dyïng to hear your voice. You haven’t even been missing me” she accused me straight on, keeping me engrossed in defending myself for about five minutes before I got a chance to ask her why she was with Chuks.
“Oh, he came by to drop off my yogurt and Burger, but had to come back here because his flash drive fell inside the bag he gave me, and I can’t find it.
“We have been searching for it and I don’t even know where I kept the bag again. I don’t know what’s so important about the flash drive anyways, I even told him to ask you to get him a replacement and he was looking at me as if he was going to hit me!” Madonna complained.
“My Donna, you saw a flash drive in a bag he brought you, and you didn’t know you have to keep it safe? Are you saying you do not know that Chuks my friend is the chief accountant of our organization and he’d certainly have very sensitive and important files in that flash drive?” I asked her, and she began to sob.
“Oh so you’re going to be màd at me too? You left me all alone here, and just because of a little mistake, you want to scream at me now and make me have a heart attàck? You flew so many miles away from me, and the first time you speak with me, us to rebuke me?” she asked, making me feel both angry and tired.
“I’m not màd at you my Donna, I’m just saying you should be more careful. Okay, please stop crying, I’ll tell my friend what to do now if you can hand him the phone” I told her.
“Andy!” I heard my friend call tersely as he picked up the phone.
“My guy, I’m sorry that I put you through all of these, I can already imagine how you’re feeling, and I truly apologize.
“If I know my wife well, she must have put that bag inside a purple bag at the left side of the bed. She stores all the disposable bags there, for what I don’t know.
“Please check there and see if the flash drive would still be there” I told my friend, hearing his grunts in frustràtion as he began to rummage through the bag then I heard a yelp.
“Some wife you got yourself my man!” he told me in pure sarcasm, but I was glad that he had seen the flash drive.
We spoke for a few more minutes and he told me he needed to rush home for the little night rest he could get before work the next day.
“Thank you Chuks. You’re one in a million friends” I told him before I hung up.
Then I became restless. “Who knows what Madonna was wearing all the while Chuks had to remain in that room to search for his flash drive” I wondered as I walked out to get an early dinner.
It was just 6pm, and I was going crãzy, staying inside the room, and imagining things that were messing with my mental health.
I walked into the hotel’s restaurant and flipped through their menu absentmindedly. I kept seeing Madonna in her scarf and wondered if that was what she had on when Chuks was with her.
“Oh you’re here already!” I heard Sola asking me as she took a seat besides me, not bothering to ask if I was okay with it.
It was a good thing she came actually, because she was able to get me to talk about other things, as she kept trying to get the information she needed for her own part of the project off me, knowing how well I always research my partners before any collaboration.
We talked about this and that while we ate, and I noticed she wasn’t willing to let me go even after we left the hotel restaurant.
Her room was just next to mine, and she had wanted to come in to see the types of graphs I used for my slides and get a cue on what to do with hers, but I didn’t like the idea.
“How about I send you a mail with all you want and see if it’ll help you better?
“That must be the best thing to do in the circumstance because you will have something to refer to as you work on” I told her, politely turning her down.
“Thank you very much Mr. Andrew. I never imagined you’d be kind enough to go through so much stress to help me out” she quipped happily, looking genuinely pleased that I was going to mail her the materials she needed.
She gave me a side hug and swayed into her room.
