“Please don’t do this”
Laura pleaded on her knees.
Dracole gave her a wry smile and held her closely.
“You will love it baby I promise I will be gentle.”
Dracole responded .
Laura shivered and Dracole bursted into laughter.
“Just playing around.”
Dracole blurted out and Laura gave him a scornful look.
“What kind of play is this?”
Laura asked impulsively.
“A harmless one. Truth is all I said were what I would love to happen between us, but of cos not this way. I apologize if I scared you babe. Now let me help you fix this tightly.”
Dracole offered to help Laura out with her loosed towel.
“Don’t bother I am not handicapped.”
Laura hissed.
She adjusted her towel and ushered Dracole out.
Dracole insisted he wouldn’t go until she tell him she wasn’t angry anymore. Laura got pissed off by his insistence and spoke impulsively.
“You don’t respect my privacy Dracole. I mean who goes into the bathroom of a lady just to play crooked pranks with her. What was your intention? To scare me to death huh ? I keep on wondering what you are everyday. Some sort of god or something?”
Dracole sighed and responded.
“Babe to be honest I didn’t know you were naked. Mind you the bathroom door wasn’t locked. When I heard drops of water I thought you were brushing your teeth. If I had bad intentions I would have effected it already. I swear on my parents’s grave Laura. I am telling you nothing but the absolute truth.”
“It’s okay. I believe you . You may now go I need to bath. My body itches.”
“Alright baby. I will be back to check on you.”
Dracole blew a kiss at her and left for his room.
Laura’s heart pounded heavily after Dracole left.
“That was such a scare.”
Laura soliloquized.
She tapped her face. She didn’t like the way Dracole joked around with things.
When Dracole entered his room Laura’s nervousness flashed back into his head. He smiled and imagined Laura’s reaction if he had went on with his dea.dly prank. The truth is that he wanted everything he had asked Laura but he didn’t want it to happen that way.
He could make use of force if he wanted to but that was never in his intentions. He didn’t want to hurt Laura more than he already did.
However his time was limited. The fear of death engrossed his mind everyday. His dying wish was having one or two kids with Laura before bidding his farewell to the other world in her arms.
He knew his thoughts were selfish but that was the way he survived in the jungle.( Street).
The street had thought him a lot of lessons and one of them was to fight selfishly for what you want till the end. He intended on applying that in the situation to achieve his aims.
Later Dracole went to check on Laura after he was through with the work he had on his table. Laura was already dressed up . She looked beautiful and bright.
“Hi.”
Dracole waved his hands at Laura from the entrance.
“Hop in already.”
Laura smiled at him.
Dracole gave Laura a sheepish look and went in.
“I hope you aren’t angry at me anymore Lolita?”
“Nope am not. I was frightened but now am better.”
“Ohh that’s good. I hope you aren’t bored?”
“I am Dracole. You’ve got a movie or something I can use to entertain myself?”
“Yeah. I think I have a movie you would love to watch on my laptop. It’s a captivating movie. You would love it.”
“Ooh really? Where’s your laptop?”
“In my room I will bring it right away.”
“Okay I will be expecting.”
Dracole brought the laptop and played the movie. He served Laura a popcorn in a plate to eat while watching the movie.
Laura was engrossed while watching the movie. The movie was captivating, the characters in the movie did a great job.
Laura didn’t even notice when Dracole fell asleep on the bed. She paused the movie and stared at Dracole while he slept. Now that she stared at him closely she observed Dracole’s face looked pale and thin exactly like that of someone sick.
She had heard Charles challenge Dracole the day she eavesdropped on their conversations about why he wasn’t taking his health seriously. She sighed and decided to check out his laptop so she could know what was going on.
She searched all the documents on Dracole’s laptop but she couldn’t find anything. She was almost giving up when her eyes caught hold of something. She clicked on the document but it was locked.
Laura pondered on what pin Dracole had used but she couldn’t figure anything out. She resolved within her heart to try out any pin she could think of.
She checked Dracole properly to be sure he wasn’t pretending he was asleep.
When she checked she realized he wasn’t pretending but fully asleep. That showed her Dracole was beginning to have trust in her. The Dracole she knew would never fall asleep in a lady’s room without one eye open.
After three attempts and Laura couldn’t open the document she stopped trying and waited a bit for another idea. She thought of Dracole’s birthdate and input it in the laptop.
The document opened and she was shocked at what she saw. Dracole had written a document about things he would love to happen after his death. He wrote it like his death would happen so soon. Laura scrolled down and tried to find out about what had motivated what Dracole had typed.
She had to resume the movie she was watching when she saw Dracole turned on the bed.
She fast forward the movie so Dracole wouldn’t be suspicious of her if he opened his eyes. After she did that she balanced on her chair and continued watching the movie while eating the
Popcorn.
Soon Dracole opened his eyes and started coughing. He coughed and held his chest in pain. He was choking from pain. Laura gave him a cup of water but he wouldn’t stop coughing. She held him closely and asked what was wrong?
Dracole shook his head and dashed out of Laura’s room. It was after he went out Laura noticed the blood stain on the bed.
Something was wrong but Laura couldn’t figure out what it was. Laura opened the door and tried to check on Dracole in his room so she could know what was wrong with him but Dracole had locked the door . He didn’t open no matter how Laura knocked. He went silent and that put Laura in fear.
Nicodemus’s POV
Nicodemus’s eyes were fixed on Louis’s picture. His brother’s smile brought huge sorrow to his heart. To think what he had done was irreversible. He sighed and held Louis’s picture closer to his heart.
Nicodemus’s fear was the authorities gathering evidence he was the one who had planned the accident. The thought of how dissapointed his parent’s would be made his heart heavy.
He had tried on several occasions to let the truth out but he couldn’t summon the courage to. He was still amid his thought when he heard a knock on the door.
His heart skipped when his mom informed him the authorities had come to see him. He opened his eyes widely like that of a frog.
“But why are they here to see me?”
He asked his mom nervously.
“Calm down son. Maybe they want you to write your statement. You know you haven’t written yours but Steve has.”
His mom replied.
“Yeah I wasn’t emotionally stable then. I am still nervous. Am afraid I can’t write any statement.”
His mom sighed.
“If you avoid writing the statement this time around you will be regarded as a suspect. Moreover what’s so hard about writing a statement? Common son they are waiting on you already.”
Nicodemus followed his mom reluctantly to the parlor. He greeted the police officers and sat down on the chair.
He was surprised when one of the officers ordered him not to.
“You are under arrest Watson Nicodemus. You are advised to remain silent as anything you say right here could be used against you in the court of law.”
“Whattt!!”
Nicodemus and his mom exclaimed at once.
“How come? Is this a joke or something? I told you guys my son Nicodemus was involved in the accident too. The criminal who did this is on the loose and you are here accusing the innocent.”
Laura’s mom charged at one of the officers.
The officer kept his cool and politely responded.
“Ma’am the evidences we have gathered so far points at your son. Pave way ma’am we need to carry out our assignment.”
The officer went forward and handcuffed Nicodemus.
Nicodemus opened his mouth widely. He was shocked. He knew the truth would come out but he didn’t expect it so soon.
He bowed his head in shame as the police officers took him away.
