Organizers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), a popular Nigerian reality show, officially announced on Friday that the show is set to return for its ninth season in 2024.
The previous season, themed Big Brother Naija: All Stars, aired from July to October 2023, and carefully featured selected housemates and fan favourites from previous editions of the show.
Ilebaye Odiniya, a 22-year-old model from Kogi State, emerged as the winner, walking away with a cash prize of N120 million. This prize included a car, home appliances, and other rewards from the show’s sponsors.
The show organizers hinted at providing more details about the upcoming season and its premiere date later this month in a short video shared on social media. The video caption intriguingly asked, “Mirror, Mirror, who is Biggie looking for?”
The announcement of BBNaija’s return has drawn comments from lovers and critics of the show. X user @hey.ebukac, wrote, while alluding to the economic challenges of the country, “Ahhh!!! Our sorrows are about to be paused for a while.”
Another, @emeka.mathias.3, suggested that the organizers give disqualified fans favourites from previous seasons another chance to redeem themselves. “He should give the disqualified a chance to redeem themselves.”
However, @sense.police pointed out that the current economic downturn in the country might have soiled any possible excitement associated with watching the show.
“Do Nigerians have time for BBNaija this year? he quizzed. “With all the challenges we are facing?”
The 2024 edition promises to deliver a blend of drama, romance, competition and entertainment for lovers of the show.
