The incident took place on Monday when Abiola arrived at the facility accompanied by her driver for the surgery.
In a statement released on Thursday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos police, reported that the driver indicated that Abiola lost consciousness and experienced difficulty breathing after receiving the BBL injection.
The statement further noted that she was immediately transported to another hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where she was declared dead.
“On arrival, the owner of the clinic, instructed a nurse to inject the now-deceased lady, who later became unconscious and started gasping for breath,” he said.
“The victim was rescued and rushed to another hospital in Lekki Phase 1 for treatment, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. Based on the report, the scene was visited by a team of detectives.
“The hospital was also visited, where the corpse was inspected and photographed before it was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.”
Hundeyin also revealed that a nurse has been detained in connection with the failed surgery.
He stated that the nurse was arrested based on information received from the police division in the Maroko area on Tuesday.
The police spokesperson added that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
