Daisy sat in the backseat of the car, wearing her favorite pink dress and clutching her teddy bear. Her parents were chatting happily, their voices drifting over the sound of the radio.

“Mom, I want to be a singer like you, and a songwriter like Dad,” Daisy said.

Her mother turned around to smile at her. “You can be anything you want to be, honey, you have all the talent in the world.”she said.

Daisy smiled back at her mother, feeling a warm glow inside. She loved her parents so much, and she knew they loved her too.

There was a sudden loud pop, followed by a violent shaking of the car. Then, everything went black.

When Daisy opened her eyes again, she was disoriented. Everything was upside down. She could feel the hot blood running down her face and pooling beneath her head. She turned her head to the side and saw her parents, lying motionless in the front seat, covered in blood.

Daisy tried to speak, but she could only manage a few syllables. “Mo… da… please wake up.”

The panic and fear were overwhelming, and she knew they were trapped in the car. Smoke was filling the air, making it hard to breathe. She tried to scream, but no sound came out. She was trapped, with no way to escape.

Daisy’s eyes snapped open, and she realized she was in her own bed, safe at home. She was drenched in sweat, and her heart was pounding in her chest. She closed her eyes, trying to calm herself down.

Then she heard her aunt calling her name again, this time from downstairs. She must have been calling for a while, for her voice sounded desperate. Daisy scrambled out of bed,and rushed down the stairs.

As Daisy stepped into the living room, she saw her aunt and her cousin, Elisa, sitting on the sofa. They both looked up at her, their expressions unreadable.

“Finally, you’re here,” her aunt said, her voice cold and unforgiving. “You have a lot of explaining to do.”

Daisy’s heart sank. She had no idea what she had done to make her aunt so angry.

“I’m… I’m sorry,” she stammered, but her aunt only glared at her, her eyes hard as ice.

“Sorry won’t cut it, you’ve wasted enough of our time already. You’re lucky I’m not throwing you out on the street.” Her aunt said.

“Go make breakfast,” she said, her voice stern and Elisa smirked.

As Daisy stood in the kitchen, making breakfast for her aunt and cousin, her mind drifted back to the last five years. She remembered the day her parents had died, and the overwhelming sadness and grief that had followed.

She remembered how her aunt had taken her in, but how cold and demanding she had been. Daisy had felt like a servant in her own home, and her cousin, Elisa, had only made things worse. Elisa had been a source of constant torment, making fun of Daisy and belittling her at every turn.

But over the years, Daisy had grown stronger, and she no longer felt like the little girl five years ago, she is now 18 and can take care of herself.

Daisy rushed into the restaurant, her heart still pounding from the argument she’d had with her aunt and cousin. She hurried to the dressing room to change into her uniform, eager to get to work and forget about her troubles.

“You’re late, What took you so long.” her boss said, as she walked into the dining area.

“I got caught in traffic, there was a huge accident and the whole road was blocked.” Daisy lied, trying to sound as convincing as possible.

“You and your silly excuses, anyways go and serve table 4.” Her boss said and walked out from the changing room.

“One cocktail, coming right up,” Daisy said, turning to grab the drink from the bar. She returned to the table and placed the cocktail in front of the customer, who didn’t even look up from his phone.

As she turned to head back to the kitchen, she heard her name being called from the door. She turned to see her closest friends standing there, waving and smiling at her.

“Daisy!” her friend Barbie called .

“Oh Hi?” Daisy replied, a mixture of excitement and disbelief in her voice.

“Melody High is offering a scholarship, and we could actually have a chance of winning! This is our chance to make our dreams come true.” Barbie said, her eyes shining.

Immediately the call ended, Sonia saved her number as Folakemi. She then put on her towel and went to take a shower after she was done, she settled on the bed to relax her nerves .

Maria’s POV

Exploring the dream land. I spranged up from the bed I slept, fetched my toothbrush and paste with a glass of water and began brushing my teeth.

I quickly dashed into the shower room, got my bucket filled with water as I walked into the jacuzzi.

Using the bathroom scoop to dish the water and pour it on my hair, I applied my shampoo, hair conditioner and turned on the soap dispenser as I began washing my hair thoroughly.

After washing my hair, I turned on the shower tap, caressing my body with the natural hand soap as the water from the shower tap flushed off the soap foams from my body.

Then I grabbed a towel from the towel rail and dried my body which was dripping wet.

Later, I got some lotions from the lotion dispenser, and applied it on the various parts of my body, having done all this, l dashed out of the bathroom and into my room to get dressed.

I got dressed in no time as my phone vibrated, I picked it up instantly.

“Hello ma’am, good morning.” Elvis greeted.

“Morning Elvis. How are you?”, I asked.

“I’m very well. Please I wanna tell you that the cab isn’t working. So, I won’t be able to take you to work this morning”, Elvis said.

As soon as I heard this, I began fidgeting.

“What a bloody hell are you Elvis?”, I bawled.

Moments later, he sent some of the captions displaying the cab’s inaccuracy and some spare parts to be replaced, so it might be able to perform its duties.

I was seriously confused whether to send the money or not. But I was seriously constrained by my faith that Elvis must be telling the truth.

I dialed his number and rang him.

“Hello dude, check your phone, I have just sent $20 US dollars into your account”, I gabbled.

Hanging up the call, I went in search of a cab, cause l was already running late to work.

“Hey Maria, good morning”, Andy yelled few metres away.

While approaching the human resource department to report myself present for the day’s activities, I met Raymond who told me that the M.D has restricted me from involving myself in any activity related to the enterprise.

“Maria you’re on suspension for one month”, he said as his eye blazed up with anger.

“Oh no! Please sir, it wasn’t my fault”, I grimaced.

“Come on Maria, we all live by principles and ethics in this enterprise. All workers here must pocess the element of right attitude to work”, he said as his eyes lit up.

“Yeah, I know, but sir I don’t wanna embark on any suspension”, I said faking a smile.

“Damn you. You don’t tryna object my decision. Now leave my office”, his eye sparkled with chagrin.

I wanted to stay longer to plead, but I sensed anger, the very moment he grabbed his telephone. I quickly made my way out of his office.

Raymond’s Pov

The door creaked open as I almost ran into hitting Maria.

My conscience was giving me some premonitions of this maybe a threat to break up. I can’t stand a chance of loosing my baby.

After rounding up with my duties for the day, I had to go and see Maria just to ensure that all was well between the both of us.

“Hi love, how are you doing?”, I asked with a grimace.

“Yeah, am not good at all.” she said as her eye blurnt with anger.

“Come on, why getting annoyed? What the hell is wrong?”, I inquired.

“Hmmm, the M.D has suspended me. I tried embelishing my excuses but he ended up paying deaf ears”, she said as her facial expression tends to erupt like that of a volcanic eruption.

“Sorry love, but l wanted to ask you about this in the foyer, you flared up and made me feel devastated”, I said staring into her eye.

“Yeah, I’m sorry about that. I was carried away by the tension of getting suspended”, she said falling into my arms as I pecked on her hair passionately.

I was paralyzed with happiness as the spirit of guiltiness fled from me.

I wish I could help her get back to work, but our M.D is strict with his actions and very furious.

We broke the hug as I stared at her passionately.

“Yeah, that reminds me. Why were you on a different cab to work today?”, I said caressing her hair which rested on my shoulder.

“My driver fucken called me this morning and said the cab is running at fault”, Maria said staring up the ceiling.

“Damn! So has he gotten the cab fixed?”.

“Yeah, after requesting for part payment of his salary”, Maria said beaming.

“Oh! well, that’s not bad at all. After all, he was demanding for his salary to get the cab fixed not yours”, I said with a giggle.

“No, I wanna get a new cab man, but Elvis is such an accomplished one”, Maria chuckled.

“Gosh! Why did you wanna hire a new cab man?”, I asked with a lop sided grin.

“Just that, he is been giving me so much headache and sometimes he makes me flare up at him”, she admitted.

I am a tall boy, with a well built shape, fair in complexion and when you see me in my traditional attire you will know I am from bayelsa, Ijaw. I have two young siblings with me which names are mercy and Gift. Unlucky to me I am the only son and the eldest among them.

Mercy the second born is 17 years of age while the last born Gift is 14 years of age. I have written my west Africa examination council (waec). Though it came with lots of struggle but I over came. I took it upon myself to be the best and not indulge in examination malpractice.

When the results was out I saw held in all my subject. Me being sure of what I wrote, went to waec board to find out why my result was withheld. When I got there I found out I scored A1 in all my subject before taking it I had to defend it. I defended it perfectly well right there a man decided to train me to school that I should choose any country I wish to go. My dad who went with me was so happy.

I wish to go to India to study medicine and surgery was what came out of my mouth. I will get everything ready just go and prepare so said the man. I went on and prepared all my stuff because on Monday I will be going to India. When I broke the news to my mom it was as if heaven poured down blessings upon her.

Her joy was endless but at a time she started crying which make my siblings to do so too. So you will be going to stay there for years my son I will miss you she said holding my head. I will miss you too Mom I replied. So you won’t miss us my sisters said. I will they all came together including my father and we did a family hug.

The day has finally come for me to travel. My parents and siblings followed me to the airport to say there goodbye. My mom hugged me refusing to leave me. Come on he will come with lots of goodies so said the man. My father told me to kneel down among those crowds and blessed me following my mom.

While I took my bag to the place I will enter because they have called for people going to India my dad said a word that trilled me. Our hopes are on you if you fail we fail not let us especially me down make us proud. While still pondering on that word a tiny little voice Interupted me.

We love you brother my siblings shouted with their tiny little voice, I smiled I love you to sisters I said before walking out of sight.
