Derek’s eyes flew open and I almost couldn’t believe it. I’m already crying so much, begging the doctor not to turn off the life support machine. The thing is, Derek has been as sleep god for a year now and he wasn’t making any move. I over heard the doctor discussing with our moms that there was no use in keeping him, they were going to turn off the life support machine which meant he would be gone for good.
I cried to Derek, begging him to wake up. I don’t care if he could hear me but I hope he could. I had told him to remember when he promised not to leave us, his family and friends. I cried so much but nothing was happening and I was starting to loose hope and I really thought Derek was going to be gone, forever.
The doctor walks up to the life machine to turn it off when Derek eyed suddenly flickered and I can swear everyone jumped back.
“De.. erk” I slowly called but he’s didn’t respond. The life support machine began bleeping really fast and the nurses had to send us out.
I don’t know what was going on the room but I can’t stop pacing back and forth. I have mixed emotions, I’m happy and scared at the same time. Derek finally woke up after a year in the very last minute when everyone were about giving up on him and now he suddenly starts shaking, feeling unstable.
I hope he is fine, I really do.
After some minutes, the doctor came out and everyone rushed towards him.
“How’s Derek?” Aunt Maggie was the first to ask and the rest of us looked at the doctor as we were eager for an answer.
“It’s strange” The doctor seemed confused. “Miracles like this happens so rarely in this hospital, I mean this is the first time a patient can actually be brought back to life, his slight chance of leaving was 1% now it’s 99% that’s very strange” The doctor sounds like he was trying to fix some unknown puzzle in his head.
I don’t really care how strange it seems. All I could hear is Derek is alive and well and he wasn’t going to die anymore. I really want to run instead the ward and jump on him then slap him so hard for almost leaving us.
“He’s sleeping now but he’s stable but he’s still under observation, something might be wrong somewhere” The doctor talked to himself again before sighing and shaking his head. “In about two to three hours, we can go check up on him together” He adds then left.
Everyone gave themselves a group hug. We’ve been crying and praying and thought Derek was still going to leave us but God is real after all. He didn’t fall us and he had brought back to us.
𝘛𝘞𝘖 𝘏𝘖𝘜𝘙𝘚 𝘓𝘈𝘛𝘌𝘙, we are with the doctor in Derek’s ward. His eyes is open and the doctor is asking him few questions.
“So Mr Hale, if you can hear me but move a finger” the doctor said to Derek.
I hopefully looked at Derek hoping he does something. He’s taking so much time to move his fingers, can he really not hear? My eyes is almost getting teary? Is this the side effect for what happened?
Derek finally moves his fingers and all my doubts begins to fade off.
“If you can see me, blink your eyes” The doctor says and Derek blinks.
The doctor puts out four fingers. “How many fingers did I put out?” He asked but Derek don’t reply.
“Okay if you don’t want to talk can you show me by putting out your fingers” The doctor says and Derek puts up for fingers.
The nurse beside the doctor notes somethings in her scrapbook and the doctor proceeds to bring Taylor closer.
“I’m going to ask you few questions” He says to Derek. “If you remember her you blink but if you don’t remember then you put a finger up, ready?” he says and Derek nods slowly.
“Do you remember her?” He asks and Derek blinks.
Then Jerry was brought. “Him?” Derek blinks.
His mom next and Derek blinks, my mom and Derek blinks and finally it was me.
“Do you remember her?” The doctor asks and I brace myself. I swear if he blinks I’m going to jump right on him and tell him I love him so much.
I’m waiting but Derek is taking so much time looking at my face. My heart is starting to race, could it be that he doesn’t remember me? But he remembers everyone so that isn’t possible is it?
“Mr Hale, do you remember this one?” He doctor moves me closer so Derek could have a more closer look. My heart is beating so loud, I have this feeling that it would fall off my mouth, why isn’t he saying anything.
Blink Derek please blink.
Derek’s fingers moved, he puts one finger up which means he doesn’t remember me. How the fuck is that possible.
“Derek is me Dove” I want to move closer to him and scream my name to him but the nurse pulls me back.
“You don’t remember her?” The doctor ask again and Derek lets out a little nod.
I couldn’t stop the tear drop that rolled down from my cheek anymore.
“Derek it’s me Dove!” I screamed.
“You love Dove remember, how can you forget me!” Taylor also backed me up.
“Calm down, he’s just waking up I’m very sure this isn’t temporary. Let’s leave Derek to rest for a little while” The doctor says and usher the nurse to lead us out.
If Derek don’t remember me anymore then what is my life without him?
