Born in 1967 in South Africa, Allison Botha, according to local media, grew up in Port Elizabeth with her mother and brother after her parents divorced whenΒ she was ten years oldΒ . After finishing high school, Alison travelled the world and, upon returning to her country, began working as an insurance broker.

On December 18, 1994, a seemingly normal day turned into Alison’s worst nightmare. That night, she decided to go out andΒ party with friendsΒ , but she nearly lost her life in a terrible attack.
Alison was reportedly parking her car outside her home inΒ Port ElizabethΒ when she was surprised by a man who forced her to drive. Under threat, she was taken by her captor to find another man, who were later identified asΒ Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger.Β The two took her to a remote area where they raped her and tried to kill her.
The men carried out their brutal plan, raping Alison and then attempting to kill her. They first suffocated her and thenΒ stabbed her more than 30 times in the abdomenΒ . Seeing that she was still alive, they slashed her throat 16 times before leaving, convinced that she would not survive, the Daily Star reported

Miraculously,Β Alison survived,Β using her last remaining strength, she wrote the names of her attackers in the sand and crawled to the road in search of help.
Alison described how, as she moved forward, she had toΒ hold her head and abdomenΒ to prevent her injuries from worsening. With each step, she felt her organs protruding.
What sentence did those involved in the incident receive?
Frans du Toit and Theuns KrugerΒ pleaded guilty to eight charges, including kidnapping, rape and attempted murder. In August 1995, they were both sentenced to life imprisonment for these crimes.
The attackers identified themselves as Satanists and claimed their actions were part of dark rituals. Years later, Alison recounted:Β “Satan really tried to steal my life.”
