‘I will let you say all sorts of words to me Efua, but you do not get to badmouth my father before me because I will not take it’
Well good for you. I angrily push Lotanna’s hands away from my mouth, fury coursing through me. “Take it or leave it Lotanna, your father is cruel and you will hear me say it every single time if I keep staying by your side!” I retort fiercely.
Lotanna clenches his fist, his eyes boring furiously into mine. Suddenly he grabs my hand and start to pull me. “Hey Lotanna, let go of me! What are you doing?!” I yell but he only replies me with a tightening of his fists on my hand.
I can hear the whispers from the guards and maids as we walk past but do I care? “You are hurting me!” I yell again, still Lotanna doesn’t answer until he pushes the door of his chamber open and drags me in, shutting the door in the process—locking it if you might ask.
“Let me out!” I yell banging the door. But he grabs my hands again and make me back the door, before raising my hands above my head. His eyes are a darker shade of his normal brown and forget the thumpity-tapper my heart is doing beneath my chest, but I think I’m scared if this Royalie Prince standing before me.
How could I have thought he is different, when he is a true son of the soil, a royal one at that. I must have been out of my mind to think he is not like his father. I gulp. “What do you want to do?” I ask, my voice coming out a bit strained.
Lotanna presses my hand tightly to the door and I force myself not to whimper at the pain it brings to me. “I told you not to trash-talk my father in my presence Efua” his voice is icy and it sends chills down my spine.
Who is this man standing in front of me? Is this the same Lotanna that complimented me twice today? How can a person’s personality change so rapidly like this?
“Why… Why don’t you want to hear it? Because you are scared of the truth that your father is a monster!” I bite out, holding his cold gaze and ignoring the frosty sensation it sends down my veins.
“You do not know him!” He fires back. I roll my eyes.
“I do not know him, but I do know he destroyed three Kingdoms mine included.. He killed my parents and do you know what he did to my best friend? He let them defile her in the presence of thousands and then he let them burn her alive… Do you know how hard it was for me? To watch the only person I had left as a family die at the hands of your cruel warriors… Do you know how hard it was to hear her piercing screams of plead every time I close my eyes to sleep… Then tell me why I won’t say these things about your father! Tell me!” I yell
“There are reasons for everything Efua, you do not get to judge!” Lotanna yells back.
I laugh dryly at his statement. “Reasons” I scoff. “Reasons you say? Reasons for ending the life of innocent people.. Reasons. You talk like you know things but don’t forget you were stuck in the white man’s land when all this was happening, so you do not get to defend your father when you don’t even know half of what he did”
“Enough! Enough Efua!”
“What? Scared much.. Scared that everything I am saying is true ehn?”
“You have made your point! Won’t you shut the fvck up now?” Lotanna snaps and I find myself pressing my lips together obeying the hidden urgency in his tone.

I know she is right. I know my Father is that cruel but hearing her say it is what pisses me off. She does not have to remind that I’m an offspring of a monster in human form. Efua does not have to bang it in my ear repeatedly that the man who bore me is nothing but a brutal soul that is so obsessed with gaining power.
I am not angry at her, instead I am fvcking livid at the fact that I was born as Axum’s son. I am infuriated at the mere knowledge that his blood runs through my veins.
“Won’t you let me go now?” I hear Efua ask. I release her and step back, running my hands through my particularly curly hair.
I watch as she rubs her hands soothingly over her wrist. I must have gripped them too hard. “I’m sorry” I mutter, loud enough for her to hear. She raises her eyes to mine and I see disbelief flash through her eyes.
“What?”
“I said I’m sorry”. I repeat holding her gaze. “For hurting you” I add, nodding my head to her wrists as a gesture. “Plus you should forget everything I said…. You shouldn’t have seen that side of me”
She scoffs. “It is imprinted in my head Lotanna Royal i cannot forget it… Why do you want me to forget it anyway?”
I shrug. “Because I never want to show that side of me again”
“You mean the Axum Royal side… The one where you are a complete replica of your father.. Body and soul” she remarks.
“I could help you forget it” I say ignoring her statement and stalking towards her till her back is pressed to the wall and I’m hovering over her.
“What… How?” She stammers.
“Like this….” I bend my head closer till our lips are only inches apart.
“What…. What are you….” I shut up with a graze of my lips over hers.
