ADESUWA’S STORY CONTINUES……….

Like I was disgusted by those words of his, I felt he was not the type of a man a beautiful and pampered daughter of a king needs to get married to. This was how it happened, I woke up that morning feeling very happy, the reason for my unusual happiness was unknown, I just had this joy bubbling inside of me. At that time, I was already doing some chores since I had become a woman who needed to learn how to cook plus Ranti taught me how to make some delicious delicacies while we were in school.

I was in the royal kitchen preparing vegetable soup just like Ranti taught me when Dele’s call came into my phone. I was so happy to see his call, he told me that he was in town and wanted us to see which made me happier. I rounded up my cooking and went to see him after informing my mom that I needed to meet up with an old friend.

I met with Dele in a not-too-expensive restaurant but the happiness of seeing him again after months made me overlook that because the normal me would have asked that we go to an expensive restaurant. Dele ordered something for us while trying to catch up on old times, I noticed he wasn’t so happy, I guess he was afraid that I might turn him down being the daughter of a king. I can still remember his exact words.

Dele: (exhale) Adesuwa, I love you.

Me: (shocked) what??

Dele: I..I..I..I mean I love you and I want to marry you

Me: You are joking right?

Dele: Not at all, I wouldn’t have traveled down here if it was a joke. The Lord told me that you are my wife.

Me: This can’t work, don’t you get it? We are miles apart.

Dele: Can you at least pray about it?

Me: I am not promising. For starters, my Dad won’t accept you.

Dele: Please, pray about it.

After we went separate ways, I couldn’t stop thinking about the whole situation, How on earth would I stoop so low to marry the son of an ordinary farmer? Dele’s father was a farmer, he is from a poor family with no properties or inheritance to his name. On my way back home, I made up my mind not to even think about Dele’s proposal talkless of praying about it. He was just not my spec.

Dele called three more times to persuade me to pray about his marriage proposal but my mind was made up. When he called the third time, I told him not to call me again which he never did. I wished I knew I was making a huge mistake, I wished I knew I was throwing gold away for stones. Dele wasn’t from a wealthy background but God planned to make him a household name. I wished I realized this on time, I wish, I wish, I wish……….

Six months later, my dad celebrated his thirtieth anniversary as the king of our village. Dignitaries graced the event, as well as kings of other villages. It was at the event, that I met Olamide, a son of a king. Initially, I didn’t take note of him until our fathers introduced us to each other. We became friends and I got drawn to him when he said he was a born-again Christian, I felt joyful to see another child of God after Dele and I parted ways. I made him realize that I had also accepted Christ and right from there, we became close friends.

I pleaded with Olamide to teach me more about the Bible which he did. In the long run, we fell in love with each other and when our fathers got wind of it, they were so happy that they blessed our union without a waste of time.

I didn’t pray about Olamide before agreeing to do life with him, and I forgot God when I fell in love, I still read my Bible and prayed but my relationship with God became strained. My Bible study time with Olamide turned into a time of love talk, we would talk and talk till we forgot that we were meant to study the Bible. In a few months, I forgot all Dele taught me about God and His word, I forgot the godly principles that Dele taught me and the worst was that I became spiritually insensitive. There were times I felt God wanted to speak to me but I wouldn’t give a listening ear to Him, There were times I had dreams but I paid no attention to them. I never knew I was treading on a dangerous path, I never knew I was sacrificing my marital happiness for nonsense.
